Disclaimer - I don't own Tolkien's Middle Earth or The Rings of Power. Despite there being many things that made me raise my eyebrows, I did find something I liked that inspired me to write something that was Middle Earth related, but not The Rings of Power related. Still, I was surprised because I'm not fond of the actress or Disa's accent, but I did love her telling Durin IV that Elrond will stay for dinner. I also see Durin IV/Elrond becoming popular because of their interactions. anyways, here is the one-shot.

Dinner With Dwarves

"He'll stay for dinner."

And then came the awkward silence, with Gimli and Legolas staring. An Elf's mouth twisted in amusement while Gimli stared, having just told the Dwarf in front of him that Legolas wasn't staying—neither was he, for that matter. Until then, there had been a somewhat awkward interaction between Legolas and the Dwarves that Gimli introduced him to, with the looks not just reserved for the Elf but the Dwarf who made friends with an Elf.

"I said he'll stay for dinner," she said.

Gimli and Legolas looked at each other before Gimili shrugged his shoulders and Legolas' eyebrows lifted. And Gimli said, "Never argue with a female Dwarf. If you do, you always regret it."

"I can't imagine why," Legolas said. "It wouldn't be because the race of Dwarfs are as a race formidable and shouldn't be underestimated?"

"You're still underestimating them," Gimli said. They followed her, the one Gimli introduced as his cousin Dis, into the abode.

"I'm surprised you're not commenting on me having a beard," Dis said, guiding them to a rather long table.

"I guess I could have cracked a joke about what Gimli said being true," Legolas said. "But it didn't feel appropriate.

Dis laughed before heading away so she could bring them food while Gimli told Legolas precisely who she was, making Legolas frown, as there was a past between them. She came back, noticing. "Is something the matter? You were smiling a few minutes ago.?"

Legolas turned his head. "Gimli was telling me how you're related to him."

"And?"

"You're Thorin's kin."

"And?" she continued.

Legolas looked over at Gimli, who let out a laugh. "Are you lost for words once, Elf?"

And then Legolas said, "It's only fair that you tell her who I am."

Gimli stared, then said. "Oh. Yeah. That."

"What might that be," Dis said firmly.

"Oh, just that Legolas might just so happen to be related to a certain Elf," Gimli said, clearing his throat. "And you might not like that."

"Oh? Might I not like that? That he is related to Thranduil?"

Legolas tried to hold back a smirk yet said nothing.

"You didn't think I wouldn't know?" Dis said, smiling. "Gloin returned from Elrond's council and told us who the Elf accompanying the fellowship was. Which only makes the two of you becoming friends all the more amusing, I think."

"It does, doesn't it," Legolas said.

And then the smile faded slightly. "I'm not just related to Thorin, you know. Fili and Kili were my boys."

"I am sorry for your loss," Legolas said. "Though I admit my saying so has been a long time coming."

"Yet it is only a short time in the lives of elves," Dis said.

"And I don't need to tell you that they fought valiantly," Legolas said.

"The funny thing is, if they had lived, I wonder if, given how close the mountain is to Mirkwood, there would have been a friendship struck between you and my boys," Dis said.

"I would like to think so," Gimli said. "He's not a stick in the mud like most Elves."

"No, I'm a tree in the mud," Legolas retorted, making Dis laugh.

"Well, thank you both for joining me for dinner. Most avoid me simply because they don't want to remind me of the kin I lost. Gloin and the others visit, but Gloin is old."

Gimli snorted as if he knew. "Now let us feast. I did promise you, Elf, that I would one day introduce you to Dwarven fare."
