It was honestly hard to imagine such a young couple already raising a little girl. Kazuto and Asuna were barely married, in college. And here they were, doting on a precious little angel that had to be at least 5 years of age. That's because said little angel, Yui, was actually not their own. When they had laid eyes on this lost little girl that no one claimed, Asuna felt obliged to take her in. They got all the paper work filled and fostered the child for awhile. Many have said how much Yui resembles Kazuto and are shocked to find out there's no blood relation.
But the biggest question never asked verbally, but always said by the stares, is why does such a young couple have a child? They were barely out of their teens, only 20 years old... or almost, anyway. Some have mistaken them as babysitting, or that she was Kazuto's little sister, or perhaps Asuna had a teenage pregnancy. Nobody ever stopped to think of adoption, because that seemed implausible for a couple their age. Even their parents raised concerns about how adopting a child of that age may raise some unwanted questions. But they didn't care – the truth is the truth, regardless of any assumptions. And the biggest truth was how much they loved and adored Yui.
"Papa, can I have some ice-cream?" Yui asked with big, hopeful eyes.
"Uh—" he glanced at Asuna, whom gave a nod of approval. "Sure. What flavor would you like?"
"Umm... uh... a-all of them?"
"All of them? Hmm..." Kazuto walked up to the ice-cream cart. There were a total of 11 different flavors, which would be too much for Yui. "Uh... I'll take one scoop of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry."
Yui seemed satisfied with her triple layered cone. To her, that was all of the flavors. She happily skipped along, her hand in Asuna's as they took a stroll in the park.
"Yui, be careful, you might trip!"
"I will, Mama!"
Asuna giggled. "Okay, but you'll need to slow down your steps a bit."
The three of them enjoyed the fall season, as leaves began to turn their color and fall to the ground. Yui would escape her parents for a minute to jump into the piles of leaves that had collected. It nearly gave Asuna a heart attack to see her run off life that, but Kazuto assured her their child was still within view. He enjoyed to see Yui laugh as she rolled around the leaves.
"Come play in the leaves with me, Papa!" Yui said excitedly, grabbing his hand and dragging him toward a pile.
"I don't know about this..."
"Come on, it'll be fun!"
Yui pulled him harder and harder, causing him to lean and nearly lose his balance.
"Kazuto, be careful!" Asuna shouted.
As Yui got closer to the leaves, she let go, causing Kazuto to lose his balance. Asuna quickly jumped forward, hoping to catch her husband before he fell, but instead he fell backward and she fell over his torso. Yui clapped, throwing leaves above her head. "That was fun!"
The two sighed, then looked at one another with a smile.
Tired and worn out from their family outing, Yui ended up drifting off to sleep. Kazuto picked her up, giving her a piggy back ride as the three of them traversed home in the sunset.
"I thought she'd never run out of energy," Kazuto commented.
"You were the one that allowed her to run around wherever she pleased!" Asuna scolded.
"It's not like she got away from us."
"Yeah..." she smiled, brushing her hand through Yui's hair. "I want days like this to last forever. I'm not ready for midterms..."
"Midterms? Since when?" Kazuto nearly panicked.
Asuna sighed. "That's what you get for playing video games all day instead of studying."
"Hey, you were playing them with me sometimes."
"In moderation."
"I guess I should really fix my schedule..."
When the two arrived home, they decided to tuck Yui in their bed. They softly laid her down, careful not to wake her up and pulled the covers over her. The young couple had a few moments of quiet by themselves, watching television and eating dinner, even doing a little homework.
Night came and Yui was still asleep. Very quietly, the two entered their room and got on each side of her, snuggling close.
As the sun rose the next morning, Yui opened her eyes to find her two loving parents asleep on each side of her. Instead of crawling out of bed, she opted to lay back down and stay sandwiched between their warm embrace.
