Goetia Household
It was a regular day when it happened. Though it wasn't exactly regular when it comes to the Goetia Household. Stolas was given Octavia for a weekday and Stella was given with her mother on the weekends. Despite all aspects between Stolas and Stellas' affair, Octavia was doing alright with the two of them going their separate ways. Stolas has full custody, Stella moved out living on her own, and of course Octavia is minding her own business.
So just exactly how did the daughter of Goetia end up in Imp City?
Well, that's where the story continues off.
All members of the Goetia were at the dining hall at the dinner table. The three of them hadn't had a family dinner for almost five months since the divorce. Of course, Octavia didn't mind inviting her mother, Stella, since she had an important announcement for Stolas.
"Stolas," Stella called her ex-husband.
"Yes, Stella?" Stolas asked with a formal tone.
"Octavia will be turning eighteen this year, right?" She asked both father and daughter. "And since we are still on the line of hierarchy I have started to make some arrangements for our daughter…" Stella tries to explain her case scenario. She is talking as if she is still part of the family and class Stolas made it clear to make the fair share of profit he can give her.
"And just what sort of arrangements are you referring to?" Stolas started getting much more subtle.
"Stolas, Octavia is now starting to be a grown lady, and now it's time for her to precaution for the sanctity of the Goetia lineage." Stella pointed fingers on her own daughter.
"Just what sort of talk is that?" Stolas started to be more aggravated. "Are you referring to Octavia not making her own choices? Have you forgotten she's my daughter as well, and I take any support of what she wants-"
"And what she want's is making sure her heart isn't been broken for some queer of a man!"
"Dinner! Is served!"
The two of them were about to begin their argument until servants brought over their dishes for the evening.
"Bon Appétit!" one of them said.
"You outdid yourself, Dad." Octavia tries to change the subject.
"Yes, I sure did." Stolas grabbed one of his favorite dishes of Hell. "I was hoping for a nice evening plan for all of us. Stella, if I recall you still enjoy-"
"Cakes~" She grabbed just the cake rather than other dishes.
"Guys, everything is alright…" Octavia grunted, stopping the two of them being immature.
"Oh no, I was just making sure that we can agree upon the future for the Lineage!" Stella sharpened the knife.
"Yes, however, even if we are completely divorce it doesn't mean you can decide our daughter's future for some Jackass!" Stolas teared up the roast cleanly.
"Dad…" Stella called Stolas.
"Oh Aye! A jackass or some double-crossing fag!"
"Mom…!"
"Her life shouldn't be a job or an act of duty!"
"What would you know, you have lost your duty as Goetia when you fuck a Plebian!"
Octavia gives up and leaves them alone.
They noticed her leave after they finished arguing.
Stella couldn't handle Stolas' act of being who he wanted to be for a long time.
After the catastrophe from the dinner party, the next morning Stolas went up to check on Octavia, for she needed the time alone because of what they've done. It didn't have to be like this, but it ended that turn anyway. Stolas just wants to be sure Octavia releases all the pain inside of her. It was for the best to leave her alone. This wasn't the first time she had troublesome problems with her family. It has been going on like this for years now. Probably when Stella and Octavia discover the truth about Stolas sudden change of sex.
And later at night, Stolas went to check up Octavia.
And then... She disappear.
IMP City…
"Okay, let me exact this situation…" Hughes clarified the case. "After going through a whole Shrek 2 dinner catastrophe, you couldn't stand both households where your own parents keep on fighting through and through, and the last thing you could think of is running away?" Hughes made it clear to Octavia's defense.
"... And Mom wants me…" Octavia didn't want to say because it really wasn't Hughes' problem. "Look… Hughes, I am grateful for you saving my life, but I don't need anyone's help at this point." Octavia grabbed her backpack walking in a different direction.
"Wait- Where are you going?" Hughes worried.
"Wherever I want, I don't need to be taken under anyone's help, or even my own parents to take care of me… I'm better off alone…" Octavia stood her ground walking into the harsh city of the out-of-job Imps.
Hughes didn't like her plan. Hughes looked at Octavia, who is practically almost the same age as Hughes, and what he was witnessing was his old self. A person who officially became heartless, a child with no home to feel ease, and worst of all, all alone.
That is not going to happen. Hughes refused to have someone go on a similar path as he had to go through. So just by extending his left arm he immediately grabbed Octavia's arm for a suggestion he probably regretted later.
"... I'm sorry, Princess…" Hughes changed his tone. "But I'm not letting you go!" Hughes has taken a serious tone.
He immediately wrapped both arms into a rope for Octavia's sake. He initially tied her up and carried her as far from the city as possible.
"I can't believe you kidnapped me!" Octavia angered. "Just who the fuck do you think you are-"
"A guy who is not going to live with a haunted consciousness all over again because of some child who decided to run away from her own parents and die on these streets!" Hughes pointed out to Octavia far from outside the city. "A person who is willing to be sure no child is making the same scenario as anyone who was thrown out or ran away from their own family! I am your savior, Goetia is part of my life, so do as I say, or I can straight up call your parents, child!"
"Stop calling me a child-"
"You're already running away from home, you might as well be treated as one!"
The two of them stopped and took a deep breather.
In Hughes' mind, this is probably the first time he ever got mad and mature for someone's sake.
"I'm not usually like this," Hughes admitted. "But I really don't want you to live on your own, not like this." Hughes worried for Octavia's life.
Even though they barely met, Octavia sees Hughes completely equal to her, and even understands how much he worries.
"... I'm sorry," Octavia apologizes with a discern look. Maybe it really was her fault for making something ridiculous.
If what her mother and Hughes said about her being a proper lady, then it is best to take things seriously.
"Come on, I'll let you crash at my place." Hughes offered her a home to stay.
"Okay, where's your ride?" Octavia asked, grabbing her bag.
"Oh, I don't have a ride." Hughes answered her question. And then he pointed directly to where his house is located.
"... We walk?" Octavia gleaned the despair she is going to live.
"Holy Hell, you are such a rich girl~" Hughes flabbergasted the lifestyle she lives.
Octavia looked back at the bus station. Now, she is starting to regret her part of the chapter.
Octavia grunted on the way.
Welcome to the Household
Finally, arriving at Hughes home, or hope to Satan it isn't, it wasn't the house Octavia had in mind.
"... Is this your garage?" She asked without even considering the word of choice.
Hughes just walked into his house. "Come in." He demands Octavia, who is not willing to actually step foot into the shack. The rain started to pour among the area, and Octavia once again grunted as she walked inside. Octavia took a good look at the space inside the shack.
"... Is this how plebeians live?"
"Why is the princess of Hell asking me how I live when her plan of running away is Imp City filled with all the homeless?" Hughes did not have to remind Octavia but he did anyway.
Hughes was starting to heat up some water for coffee from the office. Whenever everyone leaves the work office Hughes manages to take some of the coffee packs and sugar can. And it was perfect timing since he managed to buy himself a new coffee set. Octavia looked at the cat's limbs being elastic and mechanically managing reaching higher places. Her focus on his limbs was a bit saddened hearing that he was caught up with the extermination. It makes Ocatavia feel guilty for not thanking Hughes properly, for saving her life.
"... I want to take a bath…" Octavia asked in her monotone voice.
"Oh! Uh… It's right over there. The small room with the shower head." Hughes pointed out the pot.
"If there's any personal care-"
Octavia pulled out her shampoo, conditioner, and soaps. Octavia stepped into the room, and just like Hughes said there is just a shower head. It makes her wonder why he wouldn't just find a house like all Sinners. In fact, as his father explained about his possible abilities and Hughes got himself a grimoire they never know how.
As Octavia begin taking a shower, Hughes was preparing dinner for the two of them. While he was cooking he started having much more of a realization. There is a princess living underneath his roof, she ran away from home, and their dort is the same age. Well, at least he's three years older than her in a couple months. When was the last time Hughes ever been interacting with the opposite sex the same age as him. A year, two, or maybe even more. Aside from Loona, Octavia, who is not only the same age, but also a princess. Should he treat him as the same with Loona being all coworkers, or possibly just treat her with a formality. All in all, she is still a teen just like Hughes who will turn into an adult soon. Although he managed to be with women easily around seventeen, they were mostly older than him. Hughes didn't even have the nerve of telling them his real age since he was too adorable. Hughes' brain was starting to fry up with all the maturity and age situation. After her bath, Octavia provided clothes for her runaway trip from the Goetia household. She wore her usual beanie and pink shirt along with her dark jeans when she arrived, which made Hughes worried if she even had any clothes. Luckily, she brought a black t-shirt band called, "Fuck You Dad", and dark sweats.
Right when Octavia got out of the shower, Hughes and Octavia began enjoying their meals.
Hughes made somewhat of a fancy-schmancy food for Octavia's taste. Or for Hughes' perspective it's just regular spaghetti tuscan style food. Octavia wasn't exactly sure about the food. Lately, she had been acting a bit judge mental since her arrival. She never stopped into the city of different classes, especially far from the whole city of the Pentagram which has everything she needed as a Princess. In any case, Octavia stopped being a bit picky. This is the lifestyle she is going to be living until she figures out her situation; there must be a plan before making a move. Octavia inhales and exhales before making a move. She took one bite out of the pasta, and with just the taste she fell in love with it. Octavia took another bite, and then another, and then finished the whole plate. Octavia looked at the barbaric act she had done, she was really hungry, and she never had thought of wanting more of what had eaten.
Hughes put more into her place without even asking. He knew Octavia would love his cooking. Octavia didn't ask but she really wanted more anyway.
"This… is really delicious." She said in between her mouthful.
Hughes chuckled and just grabbed a napkin. He wiped off the spaghetti stain on the owlette face.
"Thank you, but please try to enjoy it without speeding." Hughes smiled from hearing his cooking skill. "My Papa has always told me, 'the key of a woman's heart is to cook; and to cook is putting love into it!'" Hughes laughed from his dad's advice. "Yeah, he always made sure I was more self-reliant, and understood the ways of gentlemen… Most fathers, they always want to be sure their kids are taken care of… and to know what's right for them…"
Octavia looked at Hughes with a bit of interest. For a Sinner to be so kind, and very caring, it makes her wonder if there really are demons who aren't just savages. Hughes adores his father so much, it makes Octavia more curious of who Hughes was before including his parents.
"...And what about your mother?" She finally asked Hughes. "What was your mother and father like when you were human?" Octavia hit a nerve for Hughes. Hughes froze from the sudden questions. Thinking about the two of them together would make things even more complicated. Maybe it even makes things worse if Hughes even mentions his parents more. Among those two, he never wanted to mention his mother the most.
Hughes just couldn't stand mentioning his family when someone else is having the most difficult part of teenhood. It's his fault for mentioning his parents by mistake.
"It's…" Hughes didn't want to say. "I… My folks…-" The phone rings.
Hughes quickly grabbed the phone, for it was the answer he needed for dodging the question.
"Sorry! Had to take this!" Hughes quickly said. "Hello! This is Hughes! Talk to me!" Hughes is completely apprehensive.
"Hughes, listen, this is an emergency!" It was Stolas on the phone. "My daughter ran away, and I don't know her whereabouts, but if you see her anywhere can you please contact me as soon as possible!" Stolas was talking faster.
"R-right! Right! Okay! I'll be looking for her first thing in the morning!" Hughes closed the conversation. Hughes loosen up all his anxiety and looked at the owlette.
"... Your dad really worries about you…" Hughes said, closing his home phone. Octavia stayed silently picking her food. "... Hey-"
"So what if he does?" Octavia answered in a cynical way which made Hughe slowly hard boil. "He told me he will never leave me… He told me he will never disappear, and that I won't have to worry about him not being found… where I can't find him." Octavia reminisces the promise she had with Stolas long ago before Hughes came into IMP. "What difference does it make when I have to be with my mother every weekend, and be with my father only five times a day." Octavia slowly expresses her emotions about her family. "Everyday, I wonder if they still love each other, even if they're not together… Everyday, I even ask myself if I will ever live a life like that… Being unhappy with someone who I don't even know… Every night if he will ever come home or even tell us a lie of where he's going…! I hate that… I hate how everything turns out to be… I hate how my parents try to kill each other… I hate my father for ruining this father…"
"Stop…"
"I wonder if they even matter if I even exist!"
"I said stop…!"
"It would be best if the two of them never even met… I hate them both-"
"SHUT UP!" Hughes' uproar had stopped Octavia from being so self-centered of her life between her parents. "Everything you said… You're wrong… Octavia…" Hughes is shaken with anger from the belief Octavia has in her heart. "All parents cherish their children… whether they resent each other, they will never stop loving their kid… And even us children must always love their parents, never hate…" Hughes kept on fidgeting his body from his past experiences with both of them.
Octavia wanted to know what Hughes' parents were like, and just by his reaction she knew it didn't work out. Just like what Octavia is going through Hughes had his parents not working out. A Sinner's past is full of mysteries.
Lost Child...
Later at night, Hughes went to the closet bringing out the new sheets for the bed. Since Octavia is spending the night at Hughes place best bet is placing new bedsheets for her after what he and Cherri had done two nights ago.
Octavia spent her night using Hughes mattress, and for Hughes he slept on the floor.
Octavia was sleeping on the bed snuggling into the pillow. It was a nice sleep she is experiencing. No yelling or screaming back in the day. No interruptions of her own beauty sleep. Of course when sleeping it will be all just sweet dreams for everyone. Octavia on the other hand isn't exactly sleeping with dreams.
Billions of light years from the cosmos right in front of her own eyes, Octavia is seeing the visionary of the beautiful stars of the constellations. Suddenly, it turned into havoc. All of the stars burst into dust, dying among all stars in the quadrant. Stella and Stolas were just lookin straight into Octavia's eyes full of grief and despair. Their happiness, their love, all of what they can give for her were wasted. As the stars were fading away, so were they. Everything couldn't be found, Octavia was all alone with no one to love her, no one to hold onto, nowhere where she could find them.
"Mommy, Daddy!" Octavia screamed out of her dream. She continued calling out the two of them. "Mommy, Daddy, Somebody! Please! Where are you!?" Crying for anyone Octavia was having the worst nightmare since she was just a small child.
"Shh! Shh! Shh!" Hughes grabbed a hold of her.
Without even thinking about it, Octavia hugged Hughes forcibly.
"Hughes…" She called Hughes name. Octavia holds onto him like a stuffed animal. "Hughes!" Octavia cried on his shoulder. "I had… I had… A dream… No one… No one was there… Mom, Dad, no one was there…" She continued listing anyone she could think of.
"Hey, Hey, everythings alright…" The feline takes full responsibility for this. "What I said… I'm sorry…" Hughes apologies for what he had said. The conversation had really gotten her into a nightmare. "I've been through the same way…" Hughes released from Octavia's choking hazard of a hug; Hughes placed his hands on Octavia's chin.
"And no matter what, even when they resent each other, it doesn't mean they will stop loving you…" The cat wiped off her tears, so she can see clearly. "You are what's more important than their relationship… If not, they would've never shown their affection for your life." Hughes pointed out the previous event at the parade.
Even though it was Hughes who had saved her, Octavia had felt like their warmth had saved her pain she was feeling through the parade.
Octavia didn't let go of Hughes' hand. The warm feeling from Hughes' hands, whether their prosthetic or real, Octavia feels more ease than ever. Meeting Hughes at the bus station, forcibly bringing her into his home, and even going so much length to feel so much relief, Hughes is the nieces and sweetest demon she had ever met. Like Stolas had pointed out from before, Hughes really is their savior. And she is eternally grateful for having him in her life.
"Can you… sleep with me?" Octavia requested.
Without even knowing what he had done, Hughes burst steam out of his ears for being so humiliatingly smooth. Once again, he has to be careful of what he does with women, especially a princess.
"Uh-Uh-I-I-I-I I think it's best not to-" Hughes let go of her, making the whole situation difficult. "Y-y-your a princess, and your Stolas' daughter- Holy fuck your Stolas' Daughter! Yeah- Uh I really don't- I would- But-" Hughes did not leave Octavia's sight.
Octavia opened the sheets for Hughes to enter.
"Please… just for tonight…"
"Why the fuck is she giving me such seduction vibe?" Hughes cried in his head. "Dammit, you really are Stolas' daughter, showing off your good straightforward- wait what the hell am I thinking! Is this right?-" Hughes is completely out of his mind. His head is all over the place.
"Please…" Octavia is still giving an offer. "... I don't want to sleep alone…" Octavia doesn't want to take the risk of being in bed alone. Not after the nightmare she had.
Hughes nervously swallows his spit for doing the right thing to do. Before he can even get on the bed, he slapped himself for his own dirty thoughts. Octavia's the same age as him, so there is no reason why the misfit cat should feel uneasy. Then again this is the first time he's with someone who isn't a couple years older than him. No, this is literally the opposite sex with the same age.
Right now, she needs someone by her side.
"O-Okay…" Hughes just stepped into the mattress with Octavia.
Nervously sweating, Hughes went underneath the sheets and faced the opposite direction.
"... Can you get closer…" Octavia asked for a final request.
Hughes flinched from the sudden requests. And so he did for her sake.
The cat scooted a bit closer towards Octavia's bubble.
The two of them weren't far away from each other. Suddenly, the owl made her attack on the cat.
Octavia was cuddling Hughes from behind.
Hughes is completely trapped from Octavia's counterattack.
He has no escape.
"O-o-octavia!" Hughes called the owlette's name who is showing much more of her other side.
"... Thank you." Octavia thanked Hughes.
"Thank you for everything... My Hero"
Hughes didn't hesitate escaping from her hug. Seeing her face from behind made her feel more at ease. Everything she didn't want to think about, what had happened through the night, this feline really is a savior for Goetia.
Hughes slept the night away.
The Next Morning... Saturday...
Stolas and Hughes dropped off Octavia to her mother's house. Of course, after the incident, Stolas is pretty scared of being integrated with Stella. The two men were looking from afar seeing Octavia being with her mother full of joy. Sure is and always will be a bit of a moody teenager, hell Loona is exactly like, but overnight she started to be a bit more open than before.
"You know, right when you brought her home, she told me she loved me." Stolas told his side of his story to Hughes.
"She should…" Hughes said in a monotone. "All kids have to love their parents. Even if they're a piece of shit, or even worse, they all should be grateful for being brought into this world." Hughes continued giving such a cold shoulder attitude.
Stolas and Hughes walked side-by-side into the portal. Hughes went back home as they stepped into Stolas' household.
"Hughes, wait up!" Stolas ran up to the feline. "You know, you don't have to continue living in the city." Stolas is giving trustworthy suggestions for Hughes. "I've been thinking a lot of thoughts, and I think it's best to ask, but why don't you live with us?" Stolas made a huge step-forward for his savior. "You have done so much for us, for almost everyone, in fact, you even did a tremendous deed so far in Hell…" Stolas opened his cape like a wingspread in order for Hughes to stop. "I insist, Hughes!" Stolas asked politely and flamboyantly.
"Will you, Hughes the Cat, be part of the Goetia Family?"
Stolas has decided for a long time. It was just a thought for Hughes to have done incredibly outstanding work in the world of Hell. And just bringing Octavia safe and sound, Stolas has made his final decision for Hughes. All he has to do is prepare a ceremony and fill out the adoption papers for Hughes. He will be an official son and heir to the Goetia household.
"Thanks for the offer, Stolas…" Hughes thanked Stolas. "But I prefer doing things on my own." Hughes denied the offer. "I have no intention of living in high society, but I will say it will be my pleasure having you guys, the Goetia, continue being part of my life." Hughes requested for Stolas who is now part of his life.
"Well, if that's really what you want, then I will be honored." Stolas said letting Hughes get going to his office work space. "If there's anything, we are always there for you." Stolas said his oath for Hughes.
"... I know." Hughes said acceptedly. "Take care Stolas."
Hughes and Stolas have departed.
It was quite a lesson for the two of them, and it surely was.
And everything turned out okay for all of them until Hughes realized he doesn't work today, and his grimoire is on a twenty-four hour wait time.
He has to wait two more hours.
"Dammit…"
In the end, he decided to walk home.
Octavia...
"... I talked to your father." Stella mentions Stolas at the dinner table. "And, we have a fair agreement." Stella put down the ordeal on the table.
Octavia straightens herself from whatever her mother has to say. Whatever happens, she must take any precaution, and make a certain understanding after her mother finishes.
"And… it was wrong of me." Stella admitted her actions. "It was wrong for me to set up some marriage when you have your whole life ahead of you…" Stella continued explaining her wrong-doings. "Even if your father is a cheating prick!" Stella yelled out, breaking her cup. "... He's right." Stella is frustrated by the fact Stolas was right about the position she put Octavia in.
"Mom…" Octavia wanted to insert her part in this but was interrupted by her mother.
"No, listen," The bird lady in white continued. "I won't have to put you through all that. I want you to live your life the way you want… And to… fall in love with whoever you want." Stella gripped her tone from saying those words.
And with that said, it was official for Octavia to do whatever she wanted.
It was even nice to hear Stolas and Stella are starting on good terms, for now. It's a fresh start not to have a whole conversation yelling within seconds. It's even nice that Stella's choice was for her sake. Now, Octavia can do whatever she wants.
"... Whoever I want?" the owlette asked herself.
Octavia laid down putting on her headphones, and continued snuggling into her bed. This time it was different. She tries holding onto her stuffed starfish. It wasn't the same, but it makes her feel at ease. However, it would make it better if it was someone.
Slowly sleeping, Octavia couldn't stop asking herself the same questions over and over.
"Who… ever… I… want…" Slowly sleeping Octavia made a suggestive answer.
"I… I want…"
Finally, the owlette sleeps.
