Johnny opened his locker as he got undressed from his uniform and started changing into his regular clothes. Roy walked in and went over to his locker.
"Hey junior. What are you going to do on your days off?"
Johnny shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe I'll go up into the mountains for a couple of days."
Chet walked in hearing the conversation.
"I'm surprised Gage. I thought for sure you'd be going out with some new nurse from Rampart or something."
Johnny turned around and rolled his eyes at Chet.
"Yeah Chet, well maybe I just want to relax for a couple of days instead."
Chet snorted. "In other words, another one turned you down huh?"
Johnny glared at Chet.
"Shut up Chet."
Roy shook his head while smiling. Johnny and Chet were always going at it with each other.
"Well, have fun on your days off. I know I won't."
Johnny chuckled. "Let me guess, Joanne has you doing one of her infamous honey do lists."
"Don't you know it." Roy said as he pulled on his shoes.
Johnny tugged on his jacket. "If you want me to come over and help I can."
Roy put on his own jacket. "No, it's fine. Besides, you already helped me a couple of weeks ago clean off the roof."
"Gage cleaned off the roof without falling through it, now that is a favor."
"Shut up Chet!"

Johnny rode his Land Rover along the dirt roads on his way up to the mountains. He planned on camping out for a couple of days and maybe doing some hiking while at it. As he turned a corner, he saw a red sedan on the side of the road with the hood up.
"Probably having car trouble. Maybe they need help." Johnny thought as he pulled up behind the car. He also wanted to make sure that no one was hurt.
Johnny got out of his car and went around to the front of the sedan. He saw a brown skinned woman crouched over the hood.
"Need some help?" Johnny asked.
The woman looked up startled.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you. I saw your car on the side and I just thought I could help if you were having car trouble." Johnny flashed her his signature grin to ease her nerves.
She smiled back at him and relaxed a bit.
"I am, at least I think so. All I know is that I was driving and my car stopped out of nowhere. I'm checking under the hood, but I don't see anything that could have caused it to stop."
"Do you mind if I look at it?" Johnny asked.
"Be my guest." She said as she backed away from it so Johnny could look.
After looking under the hood for some time, Johnny came to the conclusion that there must be something wrong with the woman's engine.
"I think there might be something wrong with your engine. I don't see what else it could be."
The woman sighed. "Great." She muttered.
Johnny gave her a sympathetic smile. "Sorry." He said as he shrugged his shoulders.
She looked up the road. "I guess I better see if I can call someone."
"Listen, there's a little shop about a couple of miles from here, want me to give you a lift?"
The woman looked at Johnny for a moment before glancing at the road again. "Uh..."
"It's only a ten minute drive from here. If you want, you can stay with your car and I can call for you."
The woman thought about it for a second more before speaking up.
"I'll go with you. I also have to call my friend to let her know I can't make it."
Johnny held the passenger door open for the lady as she got in and then got in on his side.
While driving back up the road, Johnny decided to make small talk to make the woman less nervous.
"I'm Johnny by the way, John Gage."
She smiled at him. "Nice to meet you Johnny. I'm Sandra."
"Pretty name." Johnny said as he gave her another one of his crooked grins.
She smiled shyly and turned to look out the window.
"Were you on your way to a party or something? You said you had to call your friend to tell her you can't make it." John asked as he made his way around the sharp corner of the dirt road.
Sandra shook her head. "No, I was on my way to visit her. I don't see her very often ever since her and her husband moved up to the mountains."
Johnny nodded as he got closer to the shop.
"What about you?" Sandra asked.
"Huh?"
"Where were you on your way to?"
"Oh, I was heading up to the mountains to go camping."
Sandra nodded. "That sounds nice."
"It is. It's a great way to relax after a hard shift."
"What do you do?"
"I'm a fireman paramedic for the Los Angeles county fire department."
"That's really interesting."
Johnny looked at her and saw that she was being serious.
"What about you?"
"Oh, I'm just a secretary for a small company."
After a few minutes, John pulled up in front of the shop.
"The phone is right up front on the right hand side."
"Thank you. I won't be long." Sandra said as she went in.
After a few minutes, Sandra came back out.
"A tow truck should be coming by soon."
Johnny drove them back to where Sandra's car was and sure enough, the tow truck was already there loading it up.
Sandra turned to John. "Thank you so much John. I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't shown up."
Johnny waved her off politely. "It's fine. I'm just happy I was able to rescue a pretty lady like yourself that was in distress."
Sandra blushed and giggled. "Well, thank you again."
Johnny looked at Sandra. She was really pretty. She had long dark brown hair, sweet doe eyes, caramel colored skin, and a cute sounding accent. "Not to mention a great body." Johnny thought mischievously.
After a minute, Johnny decided to just take a chance and go for it.
"Say Sandra, do you live in L.A?"
She nodded her head.
"Well...how about I take you out sometime?"
Sandra looked at Johnny in surprise for a moment. She stared at him warily for a second before looking down at her hands.
"Oh great, she's gonna say no. Good going Gage."
Finally, she looked back up at him and smiled. "Sure. I'll give you my number."
After writing down her number on a piece of paper, she handed it to Johnny.
Johnny put it in his pocket beaming. "I'll give you a call in a couple of days."
"Sounds like a plan." Sandra said as she gave Johnny one last grin before stepping out of the rover. "And thank you again John."
"You're welcome." John said as he gave her a wave.
He watched as she talked to the tow truck driver. After making sure she was okay, he pulled off and gave her another wave as he passed by.
For the rest of the day, he kept thinking about Sandra. She really was one of the most gorgeous women he had ever seen.
"You got it bad Gage." He thought to himself.
