Chapter 4: Loid and Anya finish making a nice platter of food for Yor, and Anya decides to be her doctor one more time.
Making dinner took about 2 more hours, Anya helped her father as best as she could but since she was still too young to do too much, he simply asked her help with any stirring or mixing and dropping the ingredients into the bowl. It wasn't too long before the tray of food was all ready to deliver to her. Anya volunteered to carry it with Loid keeping a close eye on her to make sure nothing fell or was moved too much. And he made sure Anya kept her balance.
Putting their masks back on, they walked into Yor's room to deliver her room service tray to her.
"Dinner's ready Mama!" Anya announced as they walked into the room.
Yor was sitting up in her bed reading a book as she turned to face her family with a smile. She still had the compress on her head that Loid gave her. It was a lot easier than the washcloth because it stayed on and was helping her headache feel more at ease enough for her to sit up. "Welcome back you two."
"Glad to see you have the energy to sit up." Loid said as he took the tray from Anya and placed it in front of her. Yor put her book aside. The tray had a small bowl of warm vegetable soup, some ginger tea in Yor's usual mug and 4 bunny eared apple slices on the side on a napkin.
"Oh, this looks so wonderful! Thank you both!" Yor happily responded putting her hands together at the lovely spread in front of her.
Before Yor reached for the spoon, Anya stopped her.
"Mama, wait! You still have a fever! You need to be still! I'm gonna feed you so you can get better faster!" she replied as she climbed on the bed, making sure to be careful to not affect the tray.
"Now Anya, Yor is perfectly capable of eating on her own." Loid said.
Yor laughed a little. "It's okay Loid, I don't mind at all." she said letting Anya have her way.
"All right if you say so, Yor." Loid gave in watching Anya tend to her mother.
Anya took the spoon and grabbed some of the soup into the spoon and held it up.
"Open up Mama, say ahhh"
"Ahhh."
Yor opened her mouth as Anya fed her.
"Is it yummy?" Anya asked.
"It is! It's so good!" Yor said brightly as she swallowed. "And it's so warm… Just what I needed."
Loid continued to watch Anya feed Yor until the bowl was empty. Another family bonding moment, check.
"Thank you, Anya. That was delicious."
"I helped make it!" Anya said proudly.
"Did you now? You're such a good girl." Yor said petting Anya's head again.
"Alright Anya, you've had your fun. Let Yor eat the apples on her own." Loid said.
"Aww… Okay Papa." Anya responded.
Yor smiled as she picked up an apple slice. "They're so cute I almost don't want to eat them…" her eyes comically tear up shut. "I'm so sorry little bunny…" she regretfully said as she took a bite. Rather violently too. That's another life taken by the Thorn Princess. This assassin loved her apples. "Mmm, so sweet and juicy!"
"Good. In the meantime, I'll go get the medicine. You two wait here."
Loid left the room as Bond came in his place.
"Bond!" Anya cheerfully said giving him a hug as he put his front paws up on the bedside. "Look Mama! Bond's here to visit you!"
"Why yes he is. Hello there, Bond." Yor said as the reached out for the dog to pet him. "Good boy!"
Bond wagged his tail happy to see Yor looking better than when he saw her last.
Yor felt like she couldn't finish the rest of the apple slices as the soup was already filling enough for her weakened state, so she shared two of her remaining slices with Anya and Bond and told Anya to give the last one to Loid. The girl and dog both happily accepted, and the mother sipped her tea as they both ate their separate slices. She felt so much more relaxed now.
Loid returned with the bottle of medicine with a spoon. He was glad to walk in on Yor and Anya smiling at one another and Bond wagging his tail. Now this looked like an ideal family looking after each other. He felt nothing but relief and accomplishment.
"Alright then, here we are." He said as he pulled up the chair from the desk and sat down beside Yor and Anya.
"Papa, I wanna do it!" Anya said with determination.
"Anya… I admire your dedication to help but…"
"I'm still Mama's doctor today!"
Loid sighed annoyed. "Jeez… You're such a handful…" He then looked at the determination in her eyes. He then smiled with his eyes closed and gave in to his daughter's demands.
Since when have you grown this soft, Twilight?
"All right then Anya, just be very careful not to spill it." Loid opened the bottle and poured the red liquid into it. Then he handed it to Anya. "Carefully now."
Anya took and held the spoon as carefully as she could. Once she was able to properly find balance, she faced Yor's way.
"Okay then patient Mama, it's time to take your medicine!" Anya said resuming her doctor role. "Here, ahhhh~!"
Yor nodded and once again, opened her mouth as Anya placed the spoon into it. After swallowing it she flinched silently, but Anya could tell that she wasn't too pleased.
"Does it taste yucky?" Anya asked. Taking medicine was always her least favorite part of a sick day, other than the being sick part.
Yor composed herself before responding. She decided to act her role as a mother with this question.
"Medicine's usually never good Anya, but we have to take it if we want to get better." she responded looking at Anya a little seriously. "But yes, it wasn't very good…" she grinned awkwardly with this answer. "It tasted pretty bad…"
"So, medicine's always yucky, even with grown-ups…" Anya muttered to herself.
"Fever reduction medicine usually has a strong taste. So, it's usually not enjoyable." Loid responded putting his hand to Anya's head. "But it has to be strong to fight off all the cold bacteria and get that fever to go away."
"Fight? You mean like when Bondman is fighting bad guys?" Anya asked.
Loid remembered the best way that Anya learns is through her childlike knowledge of her favorite cartoons. He decided to give a silly and childish answer that she could hopefully understand.
"Well yes. In fact, you could say the bacteria and germs are like a bunch of bad guys in Yor's body causing her to be sick. And the medicine is like Bondman coming in to save her. See, whenever we're sick, we need to take the medicine to beat all of the bad guys causing our bodies trouble."
"Wow! So that means medicine is just like Bondman!" Anya's eyes began to sparkle. "So cool!"
Yor just quietly giggled watching Loid once again be a good father to Anya.
"You understand now? So, the next time you get sick and have to take your medicine, you'll do it right? You need it to save you just like Bondman saves the princess."
"Yep! Next time I will be brave and take the Bond-Medicine so I can be saved!"
Loid smiled awkwardly.
I suppose that's close enough.
Yor yawned watching the two of them. Loid noticed how tired she looked and decided it was time to leave. He picked Anya up.
"All right Anya let's let your mother sleep now. Hopefully, she'll be feel better in the morning." Loid puts Anya down at the floor as he lifts the tray, putting the mug of tea on the table beside the bed for Yor to drink overnight if she wanted to.
"Aww okay." Anya responded. She ran over to her mother's side again.
"Hey Mama, gimme your forehead."
"Hmm? Um… Okay…" Yor turned and leaned forward in Anya's direction with her eyes closed assuming Anya was going to touch it.
Instead, Anya removed her mask and peeled the compress off her forehead, gave it a small kiss then put the compress and mask back on.
Loid and Yor were both shocked. "Anya!" they both said in unison.
"There! Now your fever will go away! Mama always says her kisses are magic when she kisses my hurts all away, so Anya's kisses are magic too and will fight your bad germs alongside the yucky medicine!"
Yor was still worried but couldn't help but smile at her daughter's cuteness. "Thank you, Anya you're so sweet... But please be careful… I don't want you to get sick too…"
"Yor's right Anya. Now we'll have to keep an eye on you the next few days now…" Loid puts his hand to his face in disapproval. "You really underestimate how fast these things can spread."
"But it's okay if I get sick! That way Mama can be my doctor!" Anya said smiling brightly.
"Of course, I most certainly will." Yor said still looking a bit concerned. "I still hope it doesn't happen though… Nobody wants to be sick Anya..."
Loid sighed. "Alright come along Anya, you too Bond."
Bond walked over and out the door as Loid Instructed.
"Oh wait, I forgot! Anya, a moment please?" Yor called out to her.
"What is it, Mama?" Anya asked walking back to her.
Yor grabbed the Chimera doll that Anya left with her. She handed it to her.
"I think he's better off sleeping with you tonight. He did a good job watching me. Now he needs to make sure you have sweet dreams so you can wake up happy and ready for school tomorrow."
Anya took her plushie hugging him and nodded.
"Okay Mama, I will!"
Anya then followed her father holding the doll walking to the door. Anya said one more thing to her mother before the door shut.
"Goodnight Mama! Get better soon! I love you!"
Yor smiled. "I love you too Anya. I'll see you tomorrow…"
The lights shut off and the door closed. She could hear Anya tell Loid that she had saved an apple slice for him and he responded saying he'd eat it after dinner. Then the voices completely faded.
Yor was finally able to get comfortable and lay down peacefully thinking to herself.
I never thought I'd ever have this kind of life… It's been so warm and comforting… Anya and Loid are so kind to me… Even if it's a selfish thing to think with my assassin job, I want to hope that I never have to leave this life behind.
Soon she drifted off to sleep. Hoping to have a dream of a peaceful life with her newfound family. It was nice to not be spilling blood tonight for once.
Chapter End: I'm with Yor. I really hope this family becomes real in the end. I've never seen a realer fictional family bond than this one.
