Author's Note: Hiya! I'm back with another new fic! Hasn't been that long since my last one but I had this little idea in my head for days and couldn't keep from writing it all down. Sometimes you just get the urge y'know?
Note: Any Italic lines written are character's inner thoughts!
Chapter 5: Yor is up the next morning fully recovered. Loid gives Anya a small lesson, and Anya and Yor have a sweet moment together!
The rest of the night Loid and Anya ate their own dinner with each other while Anya talked about how she took care of her mother and how she was very grown-up denying Becky to hang with her because Yor needed her. Loid was proud to hear she was making smart decisions and not go off without adult permission. He knew for most kids going off was tempting and was happy his daughter wasn't one of them.
After eating Anya took a bath while Loid tried to sterilize the Chimera doll so Anya could sleep with it safely. He simply told Anya he was going to give him a bath while she took her own. Anya read his mind that he wanted it to be clear of germs, but she still said it was okay.
Once all that was done Anya was in her pajamas all tucked into bed hugging her Chimera, Bond on the floor beside her and Loid retreated to his room. The whole family slept peacefully that night with no issues.
The next morning Anya woke up to see if Loid was finished making breakfast as she was pretty hungry. But to her surprise, he wasn't alone. Yor was right by his side making them all tea like she usually did if she wasn't in the bathroom freshening up.
"Good morning, Anya." Loid said smiling.
"Did you sleep well?" Yor followed.
Anya's eyes immediately lit up.
Yor looked much better. Her complexion was no longer pale and flushed, her voice wasn't as congested anymore, and her eyes were bright at they usually were. The compress was also off her forehead. She was completely over her cold.
"Mama!"
Anya ran over to her mother and jumped up to hug her. Yor accepted the gesture, holding her arms out and catching her lifting her up.
"You're better now!" Anya said cheerfully.
"That's right, I'm all better! And its all thanks to you!" Yor said happily as she held Anya and gave her a small kiss on her cheek. "My sweet little doctor…" She hugged Anya a little too tightly. Anya grunted. Seems her crazy assassin strength was back too.
"M-Mama…I…can't…breathe…" Anya weakly said her eyes comically almost popping out.
"Oh, I'm sorry…!" Yor said quickly stopping her grip blushing a bit. "I got a bit carried away… You're just so cute sometimes that I can't help myself..."
"Is your fever all gone?" Anya asked putting her hand to her forehead noticing it got red after her reaction.
Before Yor could answer her, Loid interrupted.
"Do you want to find out Anya?"
Anya read her father's mind. This was an invite to a test to see if she could read the thermometer herself this time. Her eyes immediately lit up.
"Yes!" she said happily. Loid nodded and left for a moment. Yor put her down.
Anya took Yor's hand and dragged her over to sit on the living room sofa.
"Sit down here Mama." Anya said.
"Okay." Yor said sitting down.
Loid came back holding the glass thermometer wiping it with a sterile cloth. Then he handed it to Anya. "Okay Anya, lets see if you can read it all by yourself this time."
Anya was excited to see if she remembered with her father taught her.
"Okay Mama, open up." Anya said holding the thermometer.
Yor did as she said and opened her mouth and Anya slipped it in. Yor was smiling the whole time.
After a few seconds Loid told Anya to take it out.
"Well Anya? What does it say?" Loid asked.
Anya looked closely where the red line was on it. It took her a few seconds to pinpoint it.
"Its…at…the…number…uhh…" she muttered.
"Come on Anya, you can do it…!" Yor followed in a quiet yet cheering tone.
"It's at the number….98!" Anya said.
Loid took the thermometer to read it and see if she was right.
He closed his eyes smiling. "That's exactly right Anya!" Loid said in a praising tone.
Anya's eyes lit up. "Yay! I did it!" she said jumping up and down.
"That means Yor's fever is all gone. Fevers in human body temperature are at one hundred or more." Loid explained.
Anya nodded. "100 or more… so if its 100 then its bad?"
"That's right, good job!" Loid praised.
"Good for you Anya! You're so smart!" Yor praised along with Loid.
"Now, I hope you use that smart brainpower at Eden today." Loid said telling Anya to get ready for school soon.
"I will!" Anya said.
Loid nodded and went back to making breakfast to leave Yor and Anya alone for a while.
Anya playfully threw herself on her mother's lap her arms spread out, giggling.
"I'm so happy you're all better Mama!" Anya said moving her body upside down smiling up at her.
Yor blushed as she looked down at Anya a bit surprised. Then she smiled putting both her hands on Anya's cheeks gently.
"I am too too Anya, thank you. I hope I can count on you to take care of me if I'm ever sick again."
"I will! I'll be your doctor forever and ever Mama!" Anya responded giggling at her mother's cold hands touching her cheeks.
Forever and ever. That sounds nice. I really hope so.
Then Anya reached up and poked Yor's nose. Interrupting her inner thoughts. She has a bit of a pouty expression.
"But no more lying about it! Lying is bad! (Not that she was one to talk…) You need to rest if you feel sick to stay healthy so you can keep being my super strong, reliable and cool Mama!"
Yor was bewildered for a while but then she sighed and patted Anya's head, again her eyes beginning to tear up.
"All right I promise. If I ever feel sick again, I won't lie about it. I'll stay home and rest." she said feeling a bit ashamed for lying and being caught. By her 6-year-old daughter of all things. "They do say that children are very perceptive. Even more than adults sometimes. I guess you're living proof of that."
Nah I can just read your mind Mama. Not that I'd ever tell you that.
Yor was starting to get emotional now. She sniffled slightly and Anya looked up at her with a concerned look.
"Oh-no, are you sick again Mama?" she asked.
Yor wiped her tears and her nose.
"N-No of course not! I'm just happy Anya. I'm so happy to have such a sweet daughter... I'm so lucky...to be a Forger..."
Anya turned herself right-side up again sitting upward on on her mom's lap. "I love you lots and lots, Mama!" she said hugging her tightly one more time.
Yor smiled down at her with misty eyes again. "And I love you Anya. Lots and lots and lots..." she said hugging her back making sure to be gentle and resting her head onto Anya's. Anya couldn't feel the small tears that ended up on her head.
"Anya! Come and eat your breakfast so you can get ready for school!" Loid called out to her.
"Okay, coming Papa!" Anya said kissing Yor's cheek causing her mother to smile again, then she got off her lap and ran over to the table to eat.
Yor just sat for a moment and looked at the two of them with a soft smile on her face. Really, how could she have gotten so lucky to find a family like them? So caring and so kind. Bond walked over to her and made a small barking noise. She pets him softly acknowledging him as well.
For the first time in an exceptionally long time, she truly felt like she was home. And she hoped and prayed by some miracle, that it wouldn't ever have to end. This family meant everything to her. And she wanted to protect it with everything that she had, just like she once did for her brother.
It was worth it all.
End! Hope you enjoyed it! I love this series and I hope to see more good things from it!
