Alma let out a sigh. She had finally gotten her newborn triplets to bed. After the long journey Alma made, Alma needed to rest and mourn. Only hours ago, she lost her husband at the hands of conquers. She would find out how the magical town came to be, but she needed to rest now.
Alma found her room. It was the only other bedroom other than the nursery. To Alma's confusion and happiness, it looked a lot like her home in her old village. On the bed, there was a book. It was black and had "Deathnote" on it in big letters. Out of curiosity, Alma picked it up. "I was wondering when you'd find my book," a voice said.
Alma snapped her head around. She saw a giant monster standing in the shadows. Alma let out a loud shriek, stumbling back onto the bed. "I expected you would react like that," it sighed. "Back to what I was saying. I see you found my book."
"You can have it back," Alma stuttered. She held the book out for him.
"No," it sighed. "I want you to have it."
"Oh?" Alma questioned.
"Let me introduce myself," it said. "I'm Ryuk, and I'm a Shinigami. I am a God of Death, and you have my Deathnote. That's why you can see me. The rest of the world can't until they touch that book."
"What do you want from me?" Alma asked.
"I'm running a test," Ryuk explained. "You see, with that book, you can kill people. You only need their name and face. I want to see what happens if I give a mortal that much power."
Before today, Alma would be skeptical. However, after the events of the night, she would believe anything. "Go on," Ryuk encouraged. "Take it for a test drive. Write down any name. If you don't put a specific cause of death, your target will die of a heart attack."
Alma thought for a moment. In the morning, Diego Guzmán, a known conman, was found dead of a heart attack.
Alma pushed open her door. They had just finished rebuilding the Casita. Over the last fifty years, Alma took care of every threat to Encanto. No one knew she was behind all of the heart attacks. When Dolores received the gift of superhearing, Alma just told her Ryuk was her card game buddy.
"Ryuk," Alma called. Dolores is busy with Mariano. Ryuk was in front of her. "I'm forfeiting ownership of the Deathnote. It has corrupted me, and I don't need it anymore. I almost killed my nieta because I thought it would save our miracle. I could have, but I didn't. I don't like having this power anymore."
"After all these years," Ryuk laughed. "You humans are so interesting."
With that, Ryuk and the Deathnote were gone. Alma's memories of Ryuk and the Deathnote were also erased.
