A lot had changed in the two years since the defeat of Naraku. As suspected, Miroku and Sango married quickly and began their family with a set of twins.
Shippo, who was not a child, went off to school, leaving them all.
Inuyasha and Kikyo finally got their second chance at a normal life. He gave up his half of demonic power to sustain her, and he became human in return.
Kaede and Kagome took over care of sweet Rin.
Sesshomaru visited often, and though they never asked anything of him, he always provided for Rins care. While many things had changed, life for Sesshomaru seemed to remind unchanged.
Until one spring day, a female rolled in when he was watching over Rin and Kagome as they picked herbs for the humans and their common seasonal illnesses.
Kagome felt it as soon as he had. A demonic power that rolled with control. It was just enough to be an announcement to the right person and enough to scare off anyone who need not be there.
She came wearing robes of black, purple, and pink. She paid the humans no mind as she moved close to Sesshomaru and bowed deeply. Both Kagome and Rin stood still and watched to see what he would do, sure he would send her away.
But he didn't.
"Why have you come before me, "
"We have come seeking your favor and offer her Ladyship Miku of house Tobashe," A male spoke with a half bow. It was clear the two demons were related. They shared similar eyes of purple, hair of black and grayish skin—Slender and tall.
Kagome and Rin looked at each other.
"My Lord," They heard the female speak before she raised just her head so that her eyes could meet his.
"Hn," Was all he stated, and she rose to stand.
"If this courtship is to proceed, I must impress of our need for a chaperone for my sister is pure,"
Sesshomaru glanced at the man in black and purple.
"No disrespect on your honor, of course, my Lord, but my mother insists on a traditional courtship,"
"Do as you see fit,"
It was then that the female spared the two humans a glance. "Pardon my Lord, but do these humans belong to you?"
Sesshomaru looked at Rin and Kagome. "The child is my ward; the woman is known as Kagome, Shikon Miko,"
Kagome half waved, but she was quickly ignored. Kagome took Rin's hand, and they made their way to Sesshomaru.
"Do you have what you came for, Miko,"
Kagome looked at her basket. "I think it's enough to last," She smiled at him.
"Let us return," He stated.
Rain, of course, started skipping her way back, with Kagome following calmly behind. But Kagome noted that the two other demons were also following behind Sesshomaru. She slowed her pace to walk alongside him. "Um?"
Sesshomaru looks down at her, her up at him. "Right," He would not put Rin in danger.
The interaction made the female demon look back at her brother.
"Thank you for the coins,"
"I do not require thanks, Miko,"
She looked at him as if to say too bad before smiling again and walking off; they had made it to the village.
"Girl," Kagome froze at the female's voice. She slowly turned as the woman walked closer.
Kagome's basket drooped as she felt demonic pressure. Kagome eyed Sesshomaru, yet he did not move. The female's power snapped, and Kagome's flashed light lighting, uncontrolled. Rin moved, but Kagome stepped in front of her in a protective manner, and she pulled in her holy power and snapped back at the women making her demonic power collapse from the force.
The woman narrowed her eyes.
"Hey, you started it," Kagome picked up her basket.
The woman looked back at Sesshomaru. "Do you also protect this woman?"
"I didn't need his protection," Kagome said under her breath, which made the woman look back at her. "It was but a small test Miko; I hardly lifted a pinky towards you,"
"Back at you," Kagome said, confused. Why was this woman picking on her for?
"Enough," Sesshomaru turned. "I will return Miko,"
She nodded. "Thanks, Sesshomaru,"
He began to walk away. "My Lord, might I suggest the Miko as our chaperone?"
Sesshomaru stooped and glanced back,
"Your what?" Kagome asked.
"As tradition states, a courting couple must have a chaperone,"
"Courting," Kagome said slowly,
"Surely you know this word Miko or are you as uneducated as the rest,"
Shock graced Kagome's face as it dawned on her. The woman had come seeing his attention, and he had accepted!
Sesshomaru, Lord of the West, had taken a girlfriend, and that ended all the normalcy left in Kagome's life, and she wondered slightly if Hell had frozen over.
"Well, will you accept?" The woman snapped.
Kagome looked at Sesshomaru.
"Do as you please, Miko," Of course, he would say that! But she owed him; he had been taking care of both her and Rin when he was only obligation to his child. But Kagome did not like this female, but she did and did not like was no concern of his. So with a sigh, she caved and accepted the offer of chaperone to the demon Lord of this West.
Thus beginning a new chapter full of secrets, lies, betrayals, and truths one might just not be ready for.
