Inside of the house of The Sparkles, Night Light and Twilight Velvet, it was an ordinary day, well, it was soon going to be anything but ordinary, since the fact that their daughter Twilight was close to having her first baby. The two were very excited. First, Flurry Heart and now they would have another grandkid, they couldn't wait!
But just because they were happy, it didn't mean they were nervous, well...Night Light was nervous. Twilight Velvet usually distracted herself with household work or talking, so that helped in her case but Night Light was a different story, much like his Twilight, he was always anxious when he was worried about things being perfect and going according to plan and maybe the fact it was his daughter didn't help matters.
What if when the time came for her to have the baby that she'd be in too much pain or there could be issues regarding her health or the baby's or what if she may even or lose...
Night Light didn't want to think that. He couldn't think that. He had to stay positive. While he was still worried, he knew that Twilight was strong and not to mention, a princess, and a fearless one at that, she could do this.
Night Light went up the stairs while his wife was on the phone and while going up, he passed by photos along the wall frame leading up to the stairs. Each photo had a special moment involving Twilight in her younger years.
Night Light turned to the first photo, eyes welling up with tears, smiling at the sight of it, it was the day that Twilight was born.
The day that Twilight Velvet had gone into labor had run along smoothly. Shining Armor had to stay in the waiting room but Night Light instantly told the doctor and nurse that he wasn't going to miss out on this.
An hour later, Velvet had entered the final stages of labor and was in the process of pushing, Night Light tried his best not to wince at the feeling of Velvet cutting off the circulation of his hoof and encouraged her with words of comfort.
"You're doing great, dear, she's almost here. Keep pushing." Night Light urged.
"YOU TRY DOING THIS ONCE IN AWHILE, GENIUS!" Velvet snapped, glaring over at her husband, eyes wide, seething, sweat running down her forehead.
Night Light nervously smiled but after giving her husband another death glare, Velvet proceeded pushing while Night Light was starting to now fully wince as the grip Velvet had on his hoof tightened while she yelled painfully.
"Almost there!" The nurse also encouraged.
Velvet gave one final yell and with that, at about 2:00 in the afternoon (Night Light kept track), their daughter was born. She was crying while the doctor took her away and cleaned her up.
Night Light then turned to his wife and he kissed her on the forehead while she leaned back against the pillow and sighed in relief, eyes drooping from exhaustion.
"You did it, Velvet! You really did it, honey!" Night Light said, now smiling proudly and lovingly.
"How is she?" Velvet murmured, sleepily.
Night Light turned and saw the doctor still cleaning up the baby who was crying then Night Light smiled, eyes misting over with tears.
"She's perfect, dear. Just perfect. She is so beautiful...just like you." Night Light said, turning back to his wife, kissing her forehead again.
The doctor went over to the two holding the newborn baby in a blanket and then he handed her over to Night Light while he and Velvet admired her.
"Oh, Nighty! You were right! She is so beautiful. She's wonderful." Velvet said, gently brushing tufts of her daughter's mane from her face.
"What are we going to name her?" Night Light asked, rubbing his nose gently against his daughter's.
The two looked at the baby while she cooed quietly and slept against her father's chest and nuzzled further against his coat and then yawned making the two chuckle softly. Velvet looked over at Night Light.
"Hey! Why don't we name her...Twilight Sparkle?" Velvet suggested.
"I like it. It sounds pretty. What do you think, sweetie? Do you want to be called Twilight Sparkle?" Night Light asked the baby softly.
The baby opened her eyes and began cooing and squirming and then her horn lit up while she giggled. Night Light chuckled and then he gently nudged his face against the baby's.
"Okay then. Twilight Sparkle it is."
To Velvet and Night Light's surprise, Twilight giggled again and her horn began glowing brighter and then she began floating, Night Light's eyes widened and he immediately caught her and gently lowered her back into his arm and against his chest. Velvet smiled proudly.
"It seems our daughter knows magic already." Velvet said, beaming with pride.
"She sure does. I think she's gonna learn to do great things with her magic when she's get older. Until then, I'm just happy she's finally here." Night Light said, kissing Twilight's forehead.
Night Light gave Twilight over to Velvet who rocked her and then she had drifted off to sleep. Night Light moved over to his wife and leaned against her while they gazed down at Twilight sleeping.
"Mama? Dad?" A tiny voice called out.
The two turned and saw their 4-year-old son, Shining Armor, standing by the door, looking over at them, worriedly but also hopefully.
"Is my baby sister here?" Shining asked.
The two nodded over to Shining smiling and then Shining gasped happily and he let his father lift up him enough to see the baby in his mother's arms.
"Is that her?"
"It is, Shining. Meet your new baby sister, Twilight Sparkle." Velvet said, turning to the baby.
"Twily!" Shining called out, laughing.
The two laughed and then Night Light ruffled Shining's mane and then they both looked at the baby.
"That's right, buddy. And me and your Mom know you're gonna be a great big brother to her."
Shining nodded and then the family continued to fawn over Twilight. It was another memorable day for the Sparkle family.
Night Light wiped his eyes and then he moved on to another photo. This one was taken when Twilight was learning to crawl. Night Light definitely wasn't going to forget that memory.
It was a nice sunny morning, while Shining was outside playing and spending time with Velvet, Night Light was looking after Twilight, he was walking around holding onto Twilight while she sucked on her bottle.
"Are you all done, sweet pea?" Night Light cooed to Twilight, playfully.
Twilight responded with a tiny burp and then Night Light went to put the bottle away while Twilight giggled and squirmed against her father. Twilight giggled some more and then she began floating. Night Light immediately noticed and squeaked in panic and quickly grabbed onto her.
"Easy there, sweetheart. Let's hold off on the magic. You're not ready yet, remember?" Night Light said, gently brushing his hoof against his daughter's cheek.
Twilight began fussing till Night Light gently shushed her and rocked her and then he looked around and grabbed Twilight's favorite toy, Smarty Pants, and waved it in front of her.
"Look, princess, look who it is. Here you go."
Twilight stopped fussing and she grabbed onto her toy and began chewing on it and then Night Light kissed her forehead.
"All better?"
Twilight cooed and nodded and then Night Light had carefully placed her onto her mat with her other toys while he sat on the sofa and sighed tiredly. It was fun but hard work being a parent sometimes.
The door opened and Shining came running in laughing while tracking mud onto the floor while Velvet followed him also laughing, tracking more mud. Night Light gave them a look but then shook his head amicably.
"What am I gonna do with you guys?"
Velvet went over to Night Light and kissed him and then she looked down at Twilight playing with Smarty Pants and then picked her up and cuddled her.
"How is Mommy's little star? Have you been good for your Daddy?"
Twilight giggled and then Night Light went over once Twilight began trying to chew on Velvet's ear while she laughed. Night Light had taken back Twilight who hugged onto Smarty Pants.
"She's been perfect but she needs to be careful about her magic. She's still just a baby." Night Light said, worriedly.
"Oh, don't get so anxious about that, dear. Remember how it was with Shining?"
Night Light sighed and nodded and then Velvet gave her husband a small smile and then kissed his cheek and touched his back with her hoof.
"She's only curious. Try not to panic sometimes when she's learning. Let her gain that independence."
Shining came over to his parents and then Twilight looked over at him and he began making funny faces making her giggle.
"You see? Even if she does get in some trouble, she's got us to be there for her." Velvet pointed out, ruffling Shining's mane.
Velvet then picked up Shining and turned to Night Light who was rocking Twilight while she chewed on her toy some more.
"I'm going to give Shining a bath since he's dirty from all that mud. Try relaxing, okay?"
Night Light placed Twilight back onto the mat and sighed and then began to close his eyes. Maybe a small nap would indeed help somewhat. While doing so, Twilight noticed that she was no longer holding onto Smarty Pants and then looked up the stairs and saw that Shining was holding onto her favorite toy by accident.
Twilight looked at her dad then at the stairs. A minute later, when Night Light opened back his eyes, he looked over at the mat and now looked horrified. Twilight was gone! Where was she?!
"Twilight! Twilight!" Night Light called out.
But Night Light didn't hear the sound of Twilight cooing or crying anywhere. Panic and dread began setting in. What if Twilight escaped through the window? No...She couldn't crawl yet. What if someone...ponynapped her?1 Heart pounding, Night Light searched frantically around the house, calling out Twilight's name over and over.
"NIGHTY!" Velvet screeched out.
Night Light heard Velvet and he trotted up the stairs. When he got there, he saw Shining still in the bath, but Twilight was also in there much to Night Light's confusion.
"Velvet, how did Twilight get..."
Velvet giggled and then she grabbed a towel and then gently and very carefully set Twilight onto the floor, Velvet lightly nudged Twilight with her muzzle and Twilight slowly wobbled onto all four legs, but due to the wet floor, she began to slip, Night Light gasped loudly, looking panicked until Twilight fell back against Velvet and to Night Light's surprise, Twilight steadied herself with her magic and with effort, she began to...walk.
"Twilight..." Night Light said softly, mouth agape.
Velvet giggled and then she nudged Twilight some more and Twilight managed to walk all the way over to her father who picked her up, he laughed happily and then kissed her forehead.
"You walked, sweetie! You really walked! Daddy's so proud of you, princess." Night Light praised.
Twilight cuddled onto her father and then Night Light saw that Smarty Pants was on the edge of the bathtub and then he gave the toy to Twilight and then turend to his wife.
"But...how did she learn to walk? What happened?" Night Light asked, confusingly.
"Well...It looked like Shining must've somehow got ahold of Smarty Pants. When Twilight saw she was gone, she probably wanted to look for her and...well, see what she can do without you watching her for a minute?"
Night Light sighed and then he looked down at Twilight who looked up at her father with big confused eyes.
"Twilight, Daddy's sorry he didn't lighten up at first. I needed to let you do things by yourself whether it involved magic or not. Do you forgive me, sweetie?"
Twilight giggled and then hugged her father's muzzle and then he cuddled her close. Shining laughed and then he began splashing. But since he was still covered in mud, he splattered some on both Twilight and Night Light.
"Looks like our star needs another bath and so does her Daddy."
Instead of rolling his eyes or looking annoyed, Night Light laughed while Twilight cooed and giggled. Velvet looked touched by this sight. Then she went out of the bathroom then returned with her camera and snapped a photo of this event.
The last photo was one that Night Light didn't even know existed until it was put up by the time Twilight moved to Ponyville. It was taken the day of Twilight's Cutienecara. It looked like a simple photo of just Twilight hugging her father but it had much more meaning.
During the party, Twilight bounded off over to the refreshment table, while other guests told her how proud they were and that she had earned her Cutie Mark, Twilight loved all the attention but she loved her Cutie Mark more.
Twilight went over to the punch bowl and poured herself some punch but then she heard someone clear her throat and her eyes moved to her side over to a pony about her age smirking at her.
"Congratulations, Twilight."
"Oh. Thanks. Shimmering Ruby." Twilight said, trying to smile.
Twilight knew exactly who Shimmering Ruby was. Not only did she sit behind Twilight in class but she happened to be the little sister of Coal Dust, the biggest and toughest pony in the schoolyard who always picked on her big brother so Twilight was slightly intimidated by Shimmering Ruby's sudden appearance.
"I heard you received it and will be going to Princess Celestia's school for magic. Congratulations." Shimmering Ruby said, sweetly.
"Thanks!" Twilight said, happily, smiling fully.
"Not!"
With a cruel tiny cackle, Shimmering Ruby caused Twilight's cup of punch to tip and the punch had been spilled over her new gown, Twilight gasped in surprise.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Here, let me clean it for you." Shimmering Ruby said in the same sweet tone.
Shimmering Ruby had levitated a sandwich with her horn and then she used her magic to throw it onto Twilight's gown. Twilight now frowned and tears began flowing in her eyes.
"Stop that!" Twilight cried.
"Oh, what are you going to do, go crying to your Mommy and Daddy?" Shimmering Ruby teased, giggling.
Twilight pouted her lips while more tears spilled. Deep down, she wanted to do just that but she then glared at Shimmering Ruby.
"You can't make scare me, Shimmering Ruby! I've got magic like you." Twilight challenged, her horn glowing.
But before Twilight's magic could surge, Shimmering Ruby blasted her own magic at Twilight and it caused her to fall backwards against the table as more food splattered on her face and dress, finally getting the attention of some of the guests.
"Go ahead, Twilight. Show me your magic."
Twilight tried to use her magic but it only fizzled since a drop of food was dripping onto it, tears rolled down Twilight's face and she looked down, defeated, until Shimmering Ruby moved up to her and forced her to look up.
"Just as I suspected, once a blank flank, always a blank flank."
The two heard booming laughter and they turned and saw a large stallion who resembled Coal Dust, this must've been his and Shimmering Ruby's dad, he went up to Shimmering Ruby and ruffled her mane.
"Ah. That's my girl. Daddy's so proud of your...'advanced' magic. Let's see you use it on her again with those plate of cupcakes."
"Okay, Daddy!"
Shimmering Ruby used her magic to levitate a plate full of cupcakes and then it dropped onto Twilight. Twilight saw the two laughing at her. Tears flooded and burst out of her eyes.
"Not only a blank flank, my sweet Ruby, but a coward and big crybaby." Coal Dust said, laughing.
The laughter finally got the attention of Velvet and Night Light. They looked over amongst the guests and saw something that worried, sadden but mostly angered them. Their daughter was slumped against a table and her gown was ruined and she was in tears. They looked at the father and daughter laughing and teasing Twilight while she sniffled and looked on the verge of sobbing her precious little eyes out.
"How dare they do that to our baby?! I'm going to set them straight..."
Night Light gently stopped Velvet and then looked over at her with a firm glance.
"Let me handle them, Velvet."
Velvet smirked and nodded and let Night Light go over to Shimmering Ruby and father while they taunted and laughed loudly at the crying Twilight.
"That was the best darling! Now it's my turn..."
To Night Light's horror and anger, he saw the stallion in front of him use his magic to levitate Twilight in the air and over a bowl of hot boiling soup while she whimpered fearfully. The tip of Night Light's horn glowed red. Nobody was going to hurt his baby like that!
"GET AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER!" Night Light bellowed out, seething.
Shimmering Ruby and her dad turned and saw Night Light glaring at them. He looked...enraged. His ears were lowered back and his nostrils were flaring through his muzzle and his teeth were gritted down.
"Oh. We were only congratulating the little one." Shimmering Ruby's dad lied, looking nervous.
Shimmering Ruby nervously nodded then her dad used his magic to let Twilight go and she fell to the floor with a yelp. After that, Twilight saw her father and despite her blurry vision, she ran over to him.
"Daddy!"
Twilight sobbed onto Night Light and hugged his forearms while he gently glided his hoof against her mane and held onto his daughter protectively.
"They ruined my dress! They-they said I was a blank flank! They called me other mean names too!" Twilight wailed out.
Twilight hugged her father and nestled into his coat, tears pouring down her cheeks. Night Light could feel his daughter shaking against him as he held onto her. Her biggest day ever and someone had the nerve to mess it up for her.
"Just as I suspected before...crybaby." Shimmering Ruby's dad muttered over to his daughter, who giggled quietly and nodded.
Night Light heard what the stallion said and was beyond angry now. Why did they have to invite Twilight's schoolmate's parents too? He wanted to teach this bully a lesson.
"Say that again." Night Light challenged.
The stallion looked at Night Light and went over to him. Twilight whimpered and clutched onto her father. Night Light gently nudged her and she lowered underneath her father while he loomed over her, set in a protective stance.
"Your daughter is a crybaby." The stallion challenged back, staring straight at Night Light.
"And you and your daughter ate bullies and ruined my daughter's party. This was her night." Night Light whispered; teeth bared down.
"A party to show that she didn't deserve her cutie mark?" The stallion asked, smirking.
Without warning, the stallion suddenly grabbed onto the edge of Twilight's tail and dragged her out in the opening and then pointed to where her cutie mark was with his hoof.
"Just because the kid earned this, it doesn't mean it's a lie. She's a nobody."
Before Night Light or Twilight could react, the stallion kicked Twilight against her flank hard and she began sobbing louder than ever. Now all the guests were looking up including Velvet and Shining Armor who was hiding behind his mother but glaring angrily at the mean stallion but Velvet held him back with her hoof while another guest restrained her from also interfering.
Night Light looked down at his sobbing daughter. He picked her up and then he glared at the stallion. Now the stallion gulped. He knew he messed up then. Night Light approached him while he began backing away along with Shimmering Ruby.
"You and your daughter hurt my baby like that again and you'll be tossed out of Ponyville with one blast of my magic." Night Light warned.
To everyone's surprise, Night Light's horn glowed red and with his magic, he levitated the stallion and hit him against the wall.
"Now...get out of my house or I do far worse." Night Light threatened.
Night Light dropped the stallion and both he and Shimmering Ruby fled the house in panic. The guests stared at Night Light holding onto Twilight and watching the stallion and Shimmering Ruby leave and then murmured in approval and small cheers.
Night Light saw Twilight crying and then he shushed her and then he titled up her chin with his hoof and kissed her forehead.
"It's okay, sweet pea. They're gone. They won't be bothering you again." Night Light assured.
Twilight sniffled and finally smiled and then hugged her dad and then Night Light went over and Velvet grabbed Twilight and hugged her while Shining hugged them both.
"Oh, honey, we're so sorry this happened. Are you okay now?"
"I'm okay, Mommy."
Velvet put Twilight on the floor while she hugged Shining and then Velvet went over to Night Light and kissed his cheek.
"My hero." Velvet giggled.
"Anything for her."
Twilight went over to her dad and then she hugged his leg and looked up at him.
"Thanks for looking out for me, Daddy." Twilight said, hugging her dad's leg more.
Night Light smiled warmly and then he hugged Twilight while Velvet had secretly snapped a photo of them and showed it to Shining who nodded in approval while father and daughter continued embracing.
Night Light wiped his eyes again smiling. So many memories of him and his daughter. Where did the time go? Night Light was almost upstairs when...
"Night Light! Night Light!"
Night Light turned and saw Velvet going over to the bottom of the stairs smiling hugely then he went over to her.
"Velvet, what's going on?" Night Light asked.
"It's time! Twilight's about to have the baby!"
Night Light also smiled hugely and then he and Velvet had left the house and went to rush over to the hospital. They couldn't believe that Twilight was already in labor. They were going to be grandparents...again!
At the hospital, Twilight was in her hospital bed, breathing and panting painfully, she wished that her ponyfriend Flash Sentry was here at her side but he had business up in Canterlot while she was stuck here giving birth...alone. She needed someone.
Twilight heard the door opening and saw her parents come into the room, Twilight smiled at them despite her pain and looked relieved.
"You guys came!"
Velvet went over to Twilight and hugged her the best she could and gently ruffled her mane and then titled up her chin.
"Of course we did, dear. We wouldn't miss this for the world."
Night Light went over to Twilight's side next while Velvet stood over at her forehead. Night Light also carefully hugged Twilight.
"How are you doing, sweetie?"
"Eh. Hanging in there." Twilight said, shrugging, groaning a little.
"Well, don't worry about a thing, we're here."
"I wish Flash was." Twilight mumbled, looking down.
Velvet laid a hoof on her daughter's back and gazed at her both confusingly and worriedly.
"What do you mean? We thought he was here and had to leave the room is all."
"No. He had a last-minute emergency in Canterlot and needed to go see what the problem was. He doesn't ever know I'm ready to have the baby." Twilight explained, glumly, rubbing her hoof over her belly.
"He what?!" Velvet snapped, eyes wide.
Velvet turned to Night Light and gazed at him sweetly and lovingly while batting her eyes.
"Honey, can you stay with Twilight for a moment while I make a call to Canterlot and give Flash the news?"
Night Light nodded and Velvet left the room. Night Light moved closer to Twilight and she smiled at him for a moment until she felt a contraction and winced and groaned. Night Light reacted and he let Twilight squeeze his hoof tight while she breathed slowly.
"This hurts so bad, Dad." Twilight moaned.
"I know sweetheart, I know. Just keep breathing. It's almost over." Night Light encouraged.
Twilight breathed and breathed while groaning. Night Light allowed his daughter to keep clutching his hoof to help with her pain. Night Light used his magic to levitate a sponge to mop off Twilight's forehead. Twilight gave him another smile as soon as the contraction ended.
"Thanks."
The two heard Velvet shouting from the hallway. She was obviously talking to Flash. They both laughed quietly and then Night Light brushed away some of Twilight's mane out of her eyes.
"So...Does Shining and Candace know yet about the new addition about to make their entrance?" Night Light, gently running a hoof against Twilight's belly.
Twilight giggled and then she nodded and then she winced while she felt a small contraction and squeezed onto her father's hoof and then relaxed.
"Yep. They sent me a letter and wished me luck and their love. Shining told me he was staying at the castle against his will." Twilight chuckled.
"He's just a nervous and protective big brother is all."
Twilight nodded in agreement and then Velvet came back into the room, looking happy again. She took over holding onto Twilight's hoof while Night Light laid his own against his wife's back.
"Had a lot to say to Flash?" Night Light guessed.
"Of course." Velvet replied, nodding.
The family laughed and then Twilight felt a very painful contraction. Enough to send make her groan loudly and grit down her teeth. Night Light quickly held her steady while she hugged him tight and then she looked over at her mother.
"Mom, get the doctor! It's hurting really bad now! I think this is it!"
Velvet nodded and gave Twilight a quick and careful hug and then dashed out of the room while Night Light comforted Twilight. Twilight clutched onto her dad and groaned.
"Daddy..."
"Don't worry Twilight, everything's gonna be okay."
Velvet came back with the doctor and two nurses and then Velvet went over to her husband.
"Honey, the doctor says I can only be in here. You need to go in the waiting room."
Night Light nodded and then he brushed his hoof against Twilight's mane who looked at him and she shook her head.
"I need to follow orders, sweet pea. You have mom, okay?"
Night Light began to walk out of the room while the doctor and nurses blocked his view of Twilight.
"Okay, Twilight, it's time to push." Tho doctor said, firmly.
Twilight began groaning and groaning and yelling and screaming. It concerned and pained Night Light to leave his daughter alone like this. Night Light aimed to open the door, until, without warning...
"DADDY!" Twilight screamed.
The moment that scream reached Night Light's ears, he knew he couldn't leave Twilight. She needed him. She needed her daddy with her too. Twilight screamed 'Daddy' over and over while Velvet tried to calm her down despite the pain in her hoof that Twilight was squeezing onto.
"I know it's hard, honey, but daddy needs to..."
"Daddy's right here, princess!"
Night Light moved beside Velvet and let Twilight grab his hoof while Velvet shook her head amicably while the doctor rolled his eyes along with the nurses.
"Ahem. You need to push, Twilight." The doctor said, adjusting the light.
"I...I don't know if I can." Twilight murmured, weakly, her eyes pained.
Velvet mopped down Twilight's forehead while Night Light looked at his daughter with an assuring glance.
"Don't worry Twilight, both me and Mom aren't gonna leave. We're here, sweetie."
Twilight smiled and then she began to push while squeezing her father's hoof tight but he didn't mind it, focusing on encouraging Twilight while Velvet did the same.
"Keep going, keep going Twilight. You're doing great, sweetheart. Push." Night Light urged in a soothing tone.
"Almost there, dear." Velvet added, mopping off Twilight's forehead.
With one final big push, the baby was born and Twilight leaned back against her pillow. The doctor held up the baby for the family to see.
"It's a boy!" The doctor announced.
Twilight panted happily, trying to catch her breath, while both of her parents hugged her carefully.
"A boy! You have a son, Twilight! You did it, honey." Velvet said, proudly.
"We knew you could do it, princess." Night Light chimed in.
Twilight smiled at her parents and then her eyes widened at the sight of her dad's nearly crushed hoof.
"Dad, your..."
Night Light noticed his hoof then chuckled and ruffled Twilight's mane.
"It'll heal, sweetie. It was worth it."
Twilight giggled and then the doctor came over and gave the baby to Twilight while she admired her newborn. Night Light and Velvet leaned against each other and watched their daughter bonding with her son.
"What's his name going to be, dear?" Velvet asked.
Twilight chuckled and then she gently cuddled the baby and turned to her parents.
"Only one name to mind. He's gonna be named after my two favorite heroes. Mom, Dad...Meet Flash Light."
Night Light looked surprised but then he approached his daughter and grandson and hugged them both close.
"No matter what dad...I'll always need you around and I've a feeling so will this little guy."
