Chapter 2: iDrink a Margarita…or Two

The girls ended up finding a really cute Mexican restaurant with a rooftop bar downtown. The place had amazing food, played Reggaeton for most the night, fire pits scattered around, and a great view of the Seattle skyline. The girls had just put in their order and were still working on their first round of drinks (and second tub of chips), laughing and having a great time.

"—wait a minute, so your cousin dated Spencer?!" Exclaimed Sam.

"Mhmm." Confirmed Harper while sipping from her margarita.

"That's so weird, I don't know…I think it's just seeing Spencer in the same dating pool as us…" Sam made an exaggerated shiver. Causing Carly to laugh and nod in agreement.

"Yeah, you should see when him and Freddie try to be the ultimate wingman duo." Harper said making herself laugh.

Sam chuckled, "So how is good old Fredwardo doing?" Carly shared a knowing glance with Sam before answering.

"He's been good, he's working on a new start up and finally got to move out of his mom's place. Even if he's just across the hall with Spencer." Said Carly with a smile. Before she continued, Carly had a thought.

"When was the last time you talked to him?" Carly asked Sam curiously.

"Oh man, it's been a while…I think it was maybe five years ago? He came and saw me in LA a while back." Sam recalled. In fact, she remembered exactly when. It was when her old roommate Cat told him Sam was in an accident to get him to come to LA so she could make her jealous. Oh Cat…what a weird time that was she thought.

Carly thought of how she would phrase the next part of her questioning. "So did you hear about his getting married…and then promptly getting divorced?" She asked hesitantly.

"No way! The nub found someone who'd marry him?" This caused Harper to burst into laughter. Sam on the other hand, could feel herself slipping back into her teenage self, trying to ignore the provoking feelings this new information caused her.

"—haha very funny." Responded Carly with an eyeroll. "So anyway she actually already had a child, who Freddie adopted. Her name's Millicent and she's 11." Carly focused on Sam to see how she'd respond to this new information. Sam sat in silence for a moment.

"Wow…when were we supposed to become actual grown-ups?" Answered Sam in all seriousness. This thought forced all three girls into a mini existential panic. Well, that is until Sam waved over their waiter.

"Hey! Can we get another round over here?" Shouted Sam. Upon looking at Carly's face she added, "and some tequila shots!"

Soon, the drinks came along with their food and the girls had gone back to having a great time. The rest of the patrons noticed this too, as the girls couldn't stop laughing. In fact, all three girls seemed to be quite tipsy at this point.

"—wait so this is your boyfriend?" Sam asked holding Carly's phone looking at a photo of Wes.

"Mhmm!" Nodded Carly with a big smile.

"He's such a hottie! And a mechanic? Mama approves." Causing Carly to giggle at Sam's declaration.

"How about you Harper? Are you seeing anyone?" Asked Sam as she dramatically swung her head over towards her.

"Well…I did have a fling with the singer, Double Dutch, recently – but now, let's just say I'm just seeing whoever I want now." Said Harper confidently.

"Dude that's great, do what you want! Or who you want…" The second part of her statement caused the table of girls to burst out laughing.

"And what about you?" Harper directed at Sam.

"Well I've never really been one to kiss and tell, but let's just say old Sammie's got several pot's of chili cooking around the country." Sam confessed and continued to take another shot of tequila.

"Yes, queen! I'll drink to that!" Harper replied following Sam's lead taking another shot. Carly sat back in her chair relaxed and giggling along with the girls, until it appeared that a light-bulb went off in her head.

"Oh my gosh Harper!" Carly said as she dramatically leaned over the table, grabbing Harper's arm. "Did you know, that Sam and Freddie used to go out?" Sam instantly blushed at Carly's statement and shifted somewhat uneasily in her seat.

"No! Really?" Harper said in surprise, turning her gaze to Sam. Instead, Carly answered.

"Yep, and they were actually sooo cute!" Carly squealed as she shook Sam's arm.

Sam simply shook her head and tried to hide how flushed this conversation was making her. Normally, she would feel the need to instantly shut down the subject – and at Freddie's expense. However, between being a bit drunk, with good friends, and feeling somewhat nostalgic, she felt that she could let her guard down.

"Why did you guys breakup?" Asked Harper intrigued.

Sam sighed, "We thought we might be trying to force ourselves into it – it just didn't feel like the right time. Then when he came to see me in LA, we talked about maybe getting back together. But that was when he was beginning his start up and he couldn't leave Seattle. We said we'd keep in touch, things got busy…and that's that."

She hadn't meant for it to come out so melancholic, it just was what it was – but she could tell from the looks on the girls' faces that it hadn't come out as she'd intended. Deciding to liven the party back up, Sam switched gears.

"Now, let me tell you about the time I beat up a guy trying to steal my bike and proceeded to hookup with…guess which celebrity?" This instantly caused both girls to perk up, deeply invested in their friend's story. ''

The night continued on full of laughter and a lot of dancing, until the girls finally made their way home. The girls took an Uber, where Sam proceeded to have an argument with the driver when he wouldn't let Sam eat her churro in his car.

"Just like old times." Carly thought to herself with a smile on her face.
