And that's exactly what they did; the assembled creatures and deities all gathered together to make the Moors look like a proper wedding venue. An altar was set up, flowers were arranged, banners and a carpet of ink black were made and put up, and torches of green and blue fire flickered to life. And soon enough, it was finally time for the ceremony.
Hades stood at the altar tall and proud with Chernabog beside him; he was more than happy to preside over the ceremony. Hades' friends and family were on the groom's side while Carabosse, Kazi, and the handful of dark fairies that had come with her were on the bride's side. Then, with the guidance of Kazi, Regina, Ramona, and Kristabelle started to play a slow song. The guests all turned to face the back to see Margalo and Dementia walking down the aisle first, scattering leaves and dark flower petals on the carpet as they went before stepping to the side. Then came Diablo, along with Pain and Panic; the raven was carrying the rings on a velvet pillow he was holding in his beak. He then perched on a nearby pedestal at the altar next to Pain and Panic. Pluto and Prosperina soon came down the aisle next, then Loki and Hel, then Set and Nephthys, and then Nyx and Thanatos. And finally, with her scepter and a bouquet of black roses, blue lilies, and bunches of lavender in one hand and with Erebus at her side, Maleficent strode down the aisle.
"Wow…" Hades whispered in astonishment; Thanatos gently nudged him.
"Easy, tiger. Save it for the honeymoon." The winged God quietly told him.
The bride in black entered with elegance and grace, causing everyone to gawk in awe; a few even started to tear up, Carabosse included. She walked down the aisle with her head held high, meeting the groom's gaze; neither Hades nor Maleficent had felt this happy in a very long time. The music faded to a stop, Erebus let her go, and she stopped at the altar next to Hades. After exchanging a loving look, they faced Chernabog.
The deity of Bald Mountain cleared his throat and began to speak. "Dearly beloved, family, friends, fairies, gods and goddesses, monsters, we are gathered here today to witness the union of the Mistress of All Evil, Maleficent, and the Lord of the Dead, Hades. These two beings standing before us may be bad to the bone and evil to the core, but the strength of their commitment is crystal clear. The power of their love is truly undeniable. Ever since their first meeting, Hades and Maleficent have always been there for one another, no matter how big the risk or how high the cost. And they've proven to everyone time and time again that a love as strong and dedicated as theirs can withstand anything that had and will come their way, even in the face of doubt or mortal danger. Yes they have faced quite a few challenges before and their bond may be tested in the future, but I know for a fact that such a bond will never, ever be broken."
Hades smiled at Maleficent. "Maleficent, for so many eons, I've felt alone. I always thought it was better to be alone, but I never knew what love truly was. I believed love was silly and impossible for someone like me, but after meeting you and after everything we went through to be where we are now, you proved me wrong. Ever since we met, you ignited some kind of new flame in this old black heart of mine and for us to be together for all eternity? I can imagine no greater win." Diablo offered him the pillow and he took one ring; as he spoke, he slid the ring onto her slender finger. "So with this ring, I pledge everything that I have to you. My life, my kingdom, my heart. I promise to always be there for you, to accept everything you are no matter what, and to always put you first."
Maleficent took in a deep breath and smiled at her beloved. "Hades, long before I met you, I believed that love was nothing but a lie and a weakness and I made a vow to never allow myself to be hurt by love again. But after all of the chaos we've been through together, I now realize that love isn't as insignificant as I believed. In an instant, you changed my life. Then I changed your life. And now, we change our lives. As of today, I will truly be honored and privileged to become your wife and Queen." She took the other ring from her familiar and placed it onto his finger as she spoke. "With this ring, I pledge to you all of the days of my life, all of my burdens, and all of my joys. I promise to be my best for you, to share my secrets and to keep yours, and to always choose you."
There wasn't a dry eye in the entire place.
Chernabog turned to the groom. "Do you, Hades, take this Fairy to be your wife, to have and to hold, in good times and in bad, for better or for worse, to love and cherish forever?"
"I do." Hades said, gazing into her sparkling eyes.
He then turned to the bride. "And do you, Maleficent, take this God to be your husband, to have and to hold, in good times and in bad, for better or for worse, to love and cherish forever?"
"I do." Maleficent smiled up at the man she loved.
"Then by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife." Chernabog declared.
As soon as he said those last few words, Hades pulled his bride close and the two shared a sweet passionate kiss. Everyone clapped their hands, cheered, and wept in applause. Carabosse and her fellow dark fairies waved their wands or scepters and in a puff of smoke and a bright flash of light, the entire assembly vanished and suddenly appeared in the Underworld where the other guests had been waiting for them. Hades and Maleficent parted and held each other close before they finally noticed where they were. Even if they weren't entirely sure what just happened, every God and Goddess in attendance cheered and clapped for the happy couple.
"Well done, Hades!" Zeus exclaimed.
"Huzzah!" Poseidon yelled.
"Mazel Tov!" Hephaestus shouted.
"So beautiful!" Hera wept.
"Hoorah!" Athena cried.
"Woo-hoo!" Apollo hollered.
"Hot diggity dog!" Hermes cheered.
"Whoa. Is this what it feels like to be popular?" Hades asked his bride, who giggled in response.
The couple smiled and waved to the crowd before the bride took out her bouquet; she then turned around and threw it to the crowd. Several single ladies in attendance tried to catch the flowers, hoping to become the next bride, but Diablo flew out and was able to catch it in his talons. He then tossed the bouquet down to Margalo, who blushed almost immediately when she caught it. At that moment, the couple descended the stairs and the reception began. As was the custom, Maleficent and Hades made the first cut of the wedding cake. They fed each other the first two slices, getting a fair amount of frosting on their faces, to everyone's amusement. After the cake came the dancing. Nyx, her band, and the Muses played a fast, jazzy song for the bride and groom's first dance. Hades and Maleficent practically ran out to the dance floor and danced their hearts out together, but he refused to dance the zorba with his big brothers. Afterwards, a slower song started to play, drawing various couples onto the dance floor.
"You have to admit it. Even if they are evil, those two make a beautiful couple." Hera said.
"You're right, they really do." Zeus replied before offering her his hand. "Shall we, my Queen?"
She smiled and gladly took it. "Ooh. Indeed we shall."
Rhea stood in another corner of the room as she watched the dancers; she had a glass of wine and was wiping away a few tears. "I hardly believe it. My youngest son is growing up."
"I know how you feel." Carabosse said as she approached her, taking a sip of wine from her own glass. "I haven't seen my only grandchild since she was a little girl. And look at her now; all grown up and married to a God."
Rhea nodded. "We have something in common, you know. Neither of us has seen the children we adore so much for so long, and here we are now. We get to see them again on the happiest day of their lives."
"You're right. Cheers?"
"…Cheers."
The two women shared a smile and gently tapped their glasses together before taking another swig. Meg and Herc were dancing together when they glanced over at the bride and groom; the two villains seemed so happy together, Herc and Meg almost couldn't believe it.
"Should we be worried? I mean, he is… villainous." Herc asked.
"Come on, don't be a wet blanket." Meg said. "Just look at him. He's been through a lot, and I think he kind of deserves this."
"…Yeah. Maybe you're right."
"Thanks, Wonderboy." She gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Pain and Panic both wanted to dance with Dementia, but then they started arguing with each other and pulling on her arms to convince her to dance with one of them first; Dementia grimaced in embarrassment and stayed silent, hoping they would grow bored and stop soon. But then Kazi stepped in and offered to dance with one of them; even though he was hesitant, Pain accepted her invitation. So Dementia was left alone with Panic and after a moment, she reluctantly agreed to dance with him, which made him very happy. While perched on the hand railing near the stairs, Diablo watched the dance floor; he gazed at his mistress dancing with Hades, seeing how happy she was with him. Margalo approached him, still holding the bouquet, and offered him a cracker.
"You gonna be okay?" She asked.
Diablo paused, but smiled and nodded at her before taking the cracker and starting to eat it. She smiled back and gently stroked his back before she felt someone tap her shoulder. She turned around to see a young boy who looked to be the same age as her; he had mango colored skin, green hair, hazel eyes, and was wearing an orange and green outfit.
"Oh! Hi, Ganymede." Margalo said.
"Hey, Margalo." The boy, Ganymede, replied; he glanced at the bouquet in her hands. "Looks like you have to get married."
She glanced at the flowers and blushed nervously. "It isn't binding. And besides, he caught it." She pointed a finger at Diablo, who let out a confused caw.
The pair laughed before looking out at the dance floor and watched the dancing couples.
"Great party, huh?" He asked.
"Yeah. I'm really glad my Uncle Hades found someone who can really make him happy." She said with a smile. She paused and set the flowers down next to Diablo before turning to her companion. "Hey uh, Ganymede? …You wanna dance?"
He turned to face her with wide eyes. "Really?"
"I mean, if you don't mind."
"No, no. I… Sure, I'd like that."
Margalo smiled, took his hand, walked out onto the dance floor with him, and the two young deities started to dance with the other couples. The raven smiled as he munched on his cracker. In the middle of the floor, Hades spun and dipped his bride before pulling her close.
"Not bad, huh?" He smirked, bouncing his eyebrows at her
"Almost as good as me." Maleficent joked with a mischievous smirk.
"Check out the newlyweds!" Cupid exclaimed.
"How romantic!" Hestia called.
"Just like a fairy tale." Aphrodite sighed.
"You go, Hades!" Ares cheered.
They blushed. After a few more minutes of dancing, Hades and Maleficent decided they had enough and walked off to another corner of the room to take a breath. That was when they were approached by Chernabog and the Fates.
"Congratulations, Maleficent." He smiled.
"Thank you so much, master." Maleficent smiled back; he nodded at her.
"And congratulations to you too, Hades." Clotho commented.
"We hope you two will be very happy together." Atropos said.
"Thanks, ladies." Hades said as he playfully rolled his eyes. He turned to Chernabog, smiled, and bowed his head. "And thank you for your help."
"Of course. And good luck to you both." The Black God said warmly. "Now if you'll excuse me, I need to head to the buffet to see if there's any cake left."
"Agreed." Lachesis chimed in.
And with that, they all walked away, leaving the newlyweds alone once again; they shared a quick laugh and when nobody was looking, Hades wrapped his arm around his wife's waist and held her close.
"What do you say we go somewhere more private for a bit?" He asked, bouncing his eyebrows.
"A grand idea. But if someone realizes we're gone…?" She asked.
"Oh please. Look around. No one will even notice." His Ember flickered around his neck.
"…Very well." She smiled and picked up her scepter.
With a wave of the scepter and a snap of his fingers, the newlyweds vanished in a plume of blue and green fire, almost like the night of Hades' birthday ball. When the flames disappeared, they stood in the middle of Maleficent's bedchamber up on the Forbidden Mountain. He offered her his arm, she promptly took it, and they walked out onto the nearby balcony. They leaned on the stone railing side by side and looked up at the night sky; there were a few dark clouds scattered about here and there, but for the most part, it was a clear night. The moon was full and bright and the stars were out; it was a perfect romantic setting.
"What a day; I've never been so happy." Hades sighed.
"Neither have I." Maleficent replied. "Aside from Diablo's little stunt earlier, everything was perfect. And I'm so glad there weren't any unwanted guests."
He knew she was referring to Hecate and Persephone. The couple knew for a fact that if both Goddesses were invited to the wedding, then they would do everything in their power to either ruin it or make sure it didn't even happen.
"You mean… the broads who must not be named?" He asked in a joking manner.
"Who else?" She scoffed.
They shared another laugh as a shooting star flew across the sky and over their heads. They stopped and gazed out at the landscape below in silence for a few moments. Farther away stood Aurora and Phillip's castle; ever since they ended their temporary alliance, the young King and Queen and the Good Fairies had done a very admirable job of keeping Hades and Maleficent's secret hidden from the rest of the kingdom, and now the evil couple could be together in peace and without any interruptions.
"So… is this what a real happily ever after looks like?" He asked, genuinely curious.
"For us? …Yes." She snaked an arm around his back as he wrapped an arm on her shoulders. They held each other close and looked up at the moon. "But somewhere out there, another story could be just beginning."
"Yeah. And as long as you're by my side, I'm confident we can handle anything the universe throws at us."
"…I love you, Hades." She said, taking a hold of his hand and turning to face him.
"I love you, too." He replied with a beaming smile as he gazed at her.
At that moment, they leaned in and shared another kiss. This was the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of the Mistress of Evil and the Lord of the Dead; as of today, they were now husband and wife and they were more than prepared for it.
