Victor Frankenstein couldn't believe his eyes. Even after bringing it inside and setting it down on a table, he STILL couldn't believe it.
That green skin. That tall structure. Those big black boots. That flat top. And the bolts in the neck. There was no mistaking it.
This was it. This was really it. This was THE monster that his great-grandfather had created!
What should I do? Frankenstein thought frantically. For the love of God, what do I DO?! Do I kill it? Destroy it? This could be my one chance to redeem my family's name! Or…do I revive it? Do what my great-grandfather could not? What if I fail? Will I worsen us? Or will I redeem us with mercy? Life is life, no matter the form! Maybe I could raise it…what am I THINKING?! Am I REALLY going mad?!
He sat down, breathing as if panicked. Yes, it WAS quite a scene. One man, crazy. Not even one very sane spectator.
Poochie seemed unsure as well. If he CHOSE to wake it up, well…he didn't install a lift or an opening in the roof. Maybe CPR? Or…or…
Shock it. I have to SHOCK it awake.
He felt himself screaming inside. A voice telling both to do it and NOT to do it. He felt himself struggling to choose.
Finally, after desperately trying to calm himself down, Victor took a deep breath.
"God, you're gonna hate me for this…"
Slowly, he made his way to the medical cabinet. Shaking, he took out a pair of defibrillators, gulping as he turned them on.
I'm going to regret this…
He headed over to the body, then pressed the defibrillators together, rubbing them for a few seconds. He took a few deep breaths, then released them to power them up.
"CLEAR!"
He placed the defibrillators in the respective positions and felt a massive jolt. It was for a split second, and after some hesitation, Victor lowered his goggles to check for vital signs.
The heart rate was still going steady. And the brain was fully conditional. Yet…nerve signals were beginning to course through!
He gasped and staggered backwards, dropping the defibrillators. The monster's brain was telling the arm…the right arm…to move.
Victor watched in equal parts awe and horror as the arm slowly moved upwards. And then…he heard a sound from the monster. A groan. But not an unintelligent beastly groan. This one was…from a daze.
The arm rose to the face, the hand covering it as the monster sat up. Poochie whined and hid behind another cabinet. Victor, however, felt paralyzed. He couldn't move. He could only watch as the monster shook his head.
"What…happened…?"
His eyes widened. It spoke. The Monster SPOKE!
It was then that the hand lowered itself in front of the face as the monster slowly opened his eyes. Upon seeing his hand, he went still. From shock.
He turned and moved his arms, looking at them. Then his body.
"Impossible…" The monster gasped. "N-No, this…how is this…?"
Victor felt like he was going to faint. But that's when he recognized the tone of the voice. It wasn't monster-like at all. It was…human.
The monster then looked around. It seemed confused as to where it was. And when it noticed Victor and Poochie…the scientist felt like a statue, unable to obey his brain's commands to run.
"A…Adam…" He stammered. "H-How…did you get…s-so smart?"
"A…Adam?" The monster spoke. "I…I thought…it was a mistake…but…somehow, I…I'm in his body…"
Victor felt himself shocked yet again. But this time, it was NOT from fear. No, the shock was…even deeper.
"D…Doctor…Henry Frankenstein?!"
The monster, no, the MAN seemed a bit more confused.
"Yes, but…who are YOU?"
Victor felt himself calming down. Then, he took another deep breath.
"T…There is NO other way to say this…" He said. "The year is 2026. My name is Victor Frankenstein. Your…your great grandson."
THE Frankenstein seemed shocked. "What…?!"
"So you've got a family reunion going on." A voice said. "Glad to know I'm just in time."
The two Frankensteins turned to the voice. A man in a leather jacket and fedora, wearing a bandana over his nose and mouth, standing in an open window.
"You've missed out on a lot, Doctor." The man said. "Here, let me get you up to speed."
He leaped down and landed with no sign of getting hurt from the fall. He got up and walked towards the monster's body.
"Tell me, do you remember your last moments in your last body?"
"Well…I was with a hunting party in the mountains. We were going after the monster. I met him alone, and I…saw something."
"Like what?"
Frankenstein was silent. "Like…insane things. Things that no man could EVER describe. Things that sparked madness, chaos…and fear."
"It was just that. Fier." The man said. "It used this body as a vessel, much like how you are. It also cursed you to be trapped in the body. And it used that same madness-inducing ability to make the mob kill itself. Only one man survived."
"Victor Mortiz…" Victor Frankenstein realized.
"Yes. He managed to defeat the monster at the burning windmill and returned to Transylvania a hero." The man said. "Inspired, he took a new name. Victor Van Helsing."
"Wait…you're…are you…?"
"Yes, Doctor Victor. I'm his descendant. Abraham Van Helsing The Second. Named after Professor Abraham Van Helsing, vampire hunter. You can call me Abe for short."
"You…hunt vampires?" Frankenstein asked.
"Not just them. All manner of monsters. Werewolves, ghosts, zombies, basically any monster that's evil. My family's defended both humans and monsters from each other ever since your death. One of us even met you. The monster, in its brief years of sentience."
"It…survived?!"
"Yes. And it took a new name: Frank. Even made himself a mate to cope with being lonely. Turns out a stray soul from this afterlife called the Shadow Realm wandered into the body to cheat her way out, reborn as completely NEW life. Without needing to worry about these Reaper guys."
"A…A bride?"
"At first. But Frank ended up getting a sister. Her name…is Maria."
"Maria?" Frankenstein gasped. "Like…the girl Adam killed?"
"She WAS that girl. Given a second chance after what was an accident. Besides…you really thought you could destroy the stone you used to create Adam so easily?"
"It's…still completely intact?!" Frankenstein asked. "But how?! I shattered it to pieces!"
"Only to have it reform for my ancestor to find." Van Helsing replied. "I know that stone far better than you do, Doctor. My family studied it and the other six for centuries."
"The others?!"
Van Helsing only pulled out the pink stone.
"You found the one that could create life. THIS stone can REcreate it." He said. "Obviously you're not safe here. Unless YOU want to deal with an angry mob. We'll head back to a more secure place. There's three men I'd like you to meet."
Van Helsing held out a fist and opened his hand. And a green portal large enough for even the monster to fit through.
"You'll find that you're part of a much bigger world, Henry." Van Helsing said. "My magic and your monster only scratch the surface."
He headed through. Victor and Poochie followed him, and Frankenstein followed after some hesitation. Once the portal closed, Henry was shocked and fascinated at what he saw.
A whole BUNCH of monsters. Vampires, werewolves, a fish girl, some metal men, strange creatures, people in costumes, and even some MORE monsters he couldn't begin to describe. Van Helsing only turned to two of them. Another scientist and a man with brown skin.
"Dr. Palmer Jekyll and Mr. Edward Hyde? Ben? This is Dr. Henry Frankenstein. The scientist inside the monster's body."
"Holy mother…" Ben was silent. "First I come back from the dead, and now THIS?"
"He used to be this thing called a zombie." Van Helsing said. "Meanwhile Dr. Jekyll has been a big fan of your work. His grandfather used to attend the university where your assistant got that brain. Where you studied life and death, he studied good and evil. After some self-experimenting, he created a monster of his very own within himself: Mr. Edward Hyde."
Something seemed to happen with the other doctor. His eyes began glowing a bluish-green.
"Well, if I had a nickel for every time a 19th century scientist ended up as a monster good guy, I'd have two nickels." Hyde stated. "Which isn't a lot, but it's funny that it happened twice."
"And in this current generation, monsters have begun becoming more and more common." Van Helsing commented, holding the pink stone. "Some like the Midnight Society seek to live in secrecy to avoid discrimination. Others seek to overthrow mankind as the dominant species. And with a couple of stones like this one, they can do it. But to tell you about them, I should probably tell you about my family. We've had a history with these stones."
Van Helsing sat down, using magic to light a fireplace.
"And our story begins way back in 1818. With a young man called Victor Mortiz…"
