A/N: I was at this beautiful park with Emily and there is this swing that looks ancient. I have been going to this park since I was 5 and have always been scared it was just going to break. So obviously when I took Emily to it we went on it. I made a joke about it being from before Captain America was born and this idea just slapped me.
Bucky and Steve were at this park. They had recently found this park, and they adored it. Since you could see the train tracks and trains would pass, they could watch for hours. There was this pavilion-like thing that overlooked the train tracks and the water in the distance.
There was this hidden cove behind a big patch of apple trees that grew everywhere around the park where there was a stone bench stood with wildflowers dusting it like a romantic painting, where the couple would kiss or maybe be married, it would be a place where they thought only they knew and it was their place.
Steve and Bucky would walk around the park and roll down the hill and there was a cool new swing that they weren't sure when it was put there since this is the first time they saw it. It had beams that were like ones you would see on a well at the top and there were bench seats to sit on. The way you would make it move was there was a floor underneath the seats and one person would push the seats with their legs and then when it swings back the other person would have to push too.
They would sit on either side and talk about random things. Some of their favorite memories such as this one. They were 15 years old, and they were just talking about their day.
"Do you ever think what our futures would be like?" Bucky asks, looking at the pavilion-like thing, watching a couple dance to no music, looking at each other with the most love anyone could have. Steve was busy sketching on a sketch pad of God knows what, he looked at Bucky after he spoke.
"Not really, when you are always ill you don't. You are always about to die I guess. All I hope is that I have a future that you are in." Steve says going back to drawing like he just didn't say a thing that made Bucky's heart skip a beat and gave him more butterflies than any other person ever did.

Now in their 20s Bucky just enlisted in the army and Steve has been denied. Their fun and naivety are mostly gone, this swing being a reminder of the past. A reminder of all the good times that they have shared, though now was not one of those times. They were arguing over Steve trying to get enlisted. . .again.
"Please Steve, why do you want to join a death sentence?" Bucky yelled, he was by the swing and just had gotten up from sitting and relaxing when he found out what Steve tried to enlist again.
"Well, James, why did you want to be enlisted?"
"They would have done it anyway, plus the pay is good."
"James. I don't want you to die. I don't want to come back here and be in pain because you are dead."
"You won't. Not if I can help it. Remember to the end of the line."

Steve found where the park used to be and was shocked that it looked similar and the same swing sat there through some miracle. The last time he and Bucky were there Bucky promised not to die if there was something that he could do anything about. He died and Steve could have done something. As he sat on the swing, he used to all the time listening to the creak that it made. He has long realized thanks to the cuticular difference between then and now that he was in love with Bucky.
He could have long ago but he didn't

When Steve showed Bucky the park his face showed he was remembering all the things that have happened here and then his face went guarded. Clearly showing he remembered the last thing that happened here. Neither remembered how it happened or why. But they went to the swing, and they kissed. Finally, doing what they desired since they were young.

Bucky, now being the one to sit on the swing in pain. Steve left him like he meant nothing to him and he knew or he thought he loved him. He left him after he said he would be back and now he wasn't ever coming back.

Turns out Steve was just late somehow neither knew what happened or why it happened all, they cared was they were back together. He said to the end of the line after all. The creak of the swimming and their wedding bands glittering in the sun. The old train tracks are still being used sound going in the distance. Green apples are falling on the ground from the old apple trees. They were in love like that couple from many years ago. Looking at each other content with everything that has happened for them to get like this.
It felt like when they first meant each other that they would never leave each other.
