Hello!

Oh boy this heat wave sure is a lively one and I'm gonna be seeing a ton of it for the next few days. Climate change is going and with a three day week I think I won't be going out anytime soon lol.

So this is a small one-shot I did out in the blue. I might expand on it but who knows hehe.

Knuckles CD

Angel Island.

A massive landmass floating thousands of feet into the sky that was hidden by the clouds, showed its majestic beauty upon the bright sunny day. Its various biomes consisting of vast forests, tall mountains and snowy valleys meant that different seasons occurred on it. The focus of this isn't on the island itself, but rather on a specific individual that lives on it, and for good reason.

A small, red echidna with white twin-spiked gloved hands was currently sleeping next to a very large green emerald. Arms were resting behind his head with legs crossed as he basked in the beautiful day.

BOOM!

Well there goes the beautiful part of the day.

Violet eyes opened instantly as Knuckles the Echidna rose up with a huff of annoyance. In the distance he saw smoke rising from the forest and his gaze narrowed at it, sensing danger afoot. Pumping his fists together he looked back at the large emerald and touched it once, a portal opening above it as it levitated into it and disappeared within. Another nod from him and he took off in the direction of the smoke.

Upon getting there he saw a crater that let off black ash into the air, along with a silhouette rising from within. Red glowing eyes appeared and with heavy steps, a mechanical robot appeared before him. Knuckles clenched his teeth and took off, dodging its attacks thrown at him while weaving around missiles flying towards him as he got closer to it. He sidestepped a missile that blew up behind him and spin-dashed in place, letting off in a sonic boom towards the robot.

POW!

A devastating punch met hard metal as the robot's head flew off from Knuckles' uppercut. Electrical cables short-circuited from its neck and with several beeps it exploded. Knuckles stepped back to stay away from the smoke and smirked, victory on his part.

His expression turned into surprise however at seeing a glowing gem reveal itself after the robot exploded. He got closer to it and picked it up, its hexagonal shape and red glow emanating with powerful energy.

It felt similar to the smaller gems he guarded, yet this one was different.

ZAP!

And different it was as the gem let off a beam of light towards the sky which surprised Knuckles as he stumbled back. The beam hit a certain altitude and at the end of it a portal opened. Knuckles clenched his eyes from the brightness and eventually the beam disappeared, the gem returning to its normal state.

Knuckles opened his eyes blinking several times. He looked up to see the normal sky again.

Along with someone falling down from it as they flailed in fear.

The red echidna was quick to react, placing the gem in his quills then running towards a nearby tree and climbing up its wooden stem rapidly with his twin-spiked knuckles digging into it. Upon reaching a good enough level he looked back at the falling person and used his legs to take off, his arms stretched upfront as he glided towards them.

Just in time he managed to grab them as he front-flipped several times and landed on the edge of the island. Apparently he drifted a little too far and almost lost his balance, his face going into panic mode for a second.

Letting out a sigh of relief he looked down to see who he rescued. His face turned red immediately.

An orange echidna that was smaller than him slightly curled towards him in fright from the experience. Seeing how they had feminine features meant that he rescued a girl… and he was very shy around them unfortunately. He noticed that she wore a jeweled headpiece with a necklace that matched along with it and a green tribal dress that covered her slender form. White sandals were worn on her feet along with white wrappings around them and her peach-colored quills. White gloved hands with blue bracelets completed her look.

The mysterious echidna opened her eyes.

Blue beautiful orbs met sharp violet ones.

Knuckles was awestruck, while the echidna in his arms was also surprised with a red hue on her cheeks.

BOOM!

They both jumped at an explosion yet Knuckles kept a good hold on her. He turned his head to see more robots have landed onto the island, his expression one of rage. Glancing down to the echidna girl who trembled and hid herself in his chest, Knuckles got angry and dashed towards them.

With several acrobatic kicks and flips Knuckles heavily damaged them, using the missiles and lasers they fired against them when he dodged at the right time. With the last robot getting sent into the air by a brutal roundhouse kick, Knuckles landed on the ground as he looked back at the girl in his arms.

She still shook from fear and his heart ached due to it. Reaching his hand to her head the red echidna petted her, letting the orange echidna know everything was okay. She revealed herself from this and looked around in worry and then back to him, staring at him in awe.

Knuckles grinned back confidently. It looks like he may have beaten his fear of girls… at least with this one.

Another tremble rattled the air as Knuckles stumbled again with the peach-colored girl in his arms curling up to him again. The male echidna ran towards the edge of the island and looked down at a large lake below in the distance.

Next to it was a tall mountain with an incredibly long and huge chain attached to it with an etching of a face with a mustache on the side of the mountain. Violet eyes followed the chain up to the sky and they widened considerably: a large, mechanized planet was seen up above being kept in place by the chain.

Not only that but Knuckles caught sight of something going up the chain at high speeds.

His eyes took in the features of a blue-furred individual with red and white shoes heading towards the planet.

…

…

A tug on his arm broke his gaze and he looked down to the echidna girl. She looked at Knuckles with worry, blue eyes looking at the giant celestial body then back to him as she gulped.

Knuckles looked back at her for a bit, then gave her a soft smile while doing something he wouldn't have ever done in his life.

He leaned in and kissed her cheek.

Just that made her incredibly flustered as she stared at him wide-eyed then hid her face in her hands, steam coming out her ears.

Knuckles gave a chuckle and while she was distracted by his action he grinned and ran forward, jumping off the edge of the island towards a new adventure.

Luckily knowing the Master Emerald was safe in his pocket dimension hehe.

Fin.

And that is it!

So yeah, Knuckles if it were to happen on the side to the main focus of the game hehe. If you know what the gem is then you know lawl.
