Chapter 2: Start of Something
Morning came and Tempest woke up, the sun shining bright, but it was of course still cold this far up north as Tempest shook off the coldness before getting up. First getting a hot drink, warming herself up, she was about to call for Glitter for the two to start their day, only for Tempest to find a note left by her friend.
"What's this?" Tempest wondered as she picked up the small piece of parchment and read it.
"Hey Fizzy, I invited Spring to have some breakfast with us at one of the cafes in the Crystal Empire, the directions are down below, see you there!"
As Tempest finished the note, she sighed as of course seeing Spring Rain was going to be uncomfortable for her, but he wasn't going to be staying here for long and she knew it was going to be rude to not see him…
"Well, I guess I can't think of a better time to see him…" Tempest thought as she looked at the location Glitter marked out before making her way out of the office and to the streets of the Crystal Empire.
Eventually she found the place, but by seeing Spring Rain sitting at one of the outside tables, but surprisingly Glitter wasn't there… Tempest was about to turn around, but it was too late as Spring saw her. The stallion stood up and waved at Tempest with a smile on his face as the mare knew she had to go… Once there, Spring came forth and gave Tempest a hug, the mare not returning it as Spring did let go after a few seconds.
"It's so good to see you Fizzy, take a seat." Spring offered, taking out a chair for Tempest to sit on as the mare accepted it and sat down.
"Thanks…" Tempest hiding away her blush. "Where's Glitter?"
"She came by to tell me she had a lot of work she needed to do first so she can spend time with us later." Spring explained, which Tempest knew right away to be a lie…
"Glitter…" Tempest figuring it out. "You wanted Spring and I to be alone together…" Tempest said in her head.
"But hey, we can have fun right?" Spring brightening up. "It's been so long since we seen each other, how have you been?"
"Well…" Tempest knew there was a lot to go through, but she started off simple. "I been helping Glitter to keep the borders of the Crystal Empire safe, just spend time time with her lately… What about you? Glitter says you're a teacher?"
"Oh yeah, I'm actually a magic teacher at Celestia's school in Canterlot." Spring answered. "You know it's funny, Glitter and I had such a hard time there and yet I ended up teaching there now."
"Yeah, must be hard for you two to be away from each other…" Tempest said, making herself blush now.
"It is, but we still keep in touch and we understand that our jobs are important too." Spring replied. "And it is very rewarding to be a teacher too." Spring smiled as there was then silence for a couple of minutes.
"Oh sweet Celestia, what do I say now?" Tempest thought. "It's been so many years since I last saw him!" Tempest began panicking in her head as she then said the first thing that came to her head… "So are you and Glitter dating?"
Tempest mentally smacked herself on her head as Spring nearly choked on the tea he was currently drinking, surprised that Tempest would ask something like that.
"Oh… Well…" Spring wiping his muzzle before clearing his throat to speak clearly. "We actually did try it when we got older, but it became so awkward and we got so busy that we decided it was better just to stay friends and well we're better because of that."
And then it was Spring's turn to say something dumb to him…
"Actually I hate to admit it, but…" Spring closing his eyes for a second before reopening them. "I always thought we would be together…" Spring revealed to Tempest's utter surprise.
"Really?" Tempest's eyes now wide open as she felt a whole rush of emotions.
"Listen Fizzy…" Spring said, trying hard not to freeze up. "I knew Glitter and I distanced ourselves from you after that incident with the Ursa, but it was because we both felt so guilty that we made you go after the ball and we were also afraid of what others might think hanging out with you."
Tempest couldn't entirely blame Spring for thinking that, she was a freak along unicorns with a broken horn and well other colts and fillies might have bullied Glitter and Spring.
"Ever since than I was ashamed leaving you like that, I should have been a better friend and tried to help you." Spring blaming himself as he continued. "I don't expect you to forgive me and I don't blame you, only myself… I guess I should just go back to my hotel…" Spring about to leave, only for Tempest to stop her friend by grabbing onto his hoof with her's.
"Listen Spring, it's not your fault, I'm the one who left without saying goodbye instead of staying, if I did, than maybe I would have been a better pony, because I wasn't always…" Tempest remembering choosing to follow the Storm King. "I'm sorry you feel that way, but it's my fault." Tempest assuring her friend as Spring sat back down.
"You mean that?" Spring asked.
"Yes, I do and hey, that's all in the past, what's important is that we're back as friends and we can start over." Tempest smiled.
"I guess so." Spring now happy. "You know I would love to have you show up at the school, maybe give a lesson or even take over a class day for me, or maybe we can go out on a date?"
"Okay, lets not go that fast, maybe for now we just promise to keep in touch?" Tempest offered.
"Sorry, I guess I'm just too excited." Spring chuckled.
"That's okay, now how about some breakfast, I'm starving." Tempest feeling her stomach rumble as the two got some breakfast while enjoying a more light conversation.
Meanwhile, hidden away from the view of the two stood a unicorn watching them, with a smile upon her face.
"Mission accomplished." Glitter happy her plan worked to get the two alone and talking. "Better start making the wedding preparations." Glitter told herself as a joke as she knew that was far off, that is if the two did end up like that.
Back with Tempest and Spring, they enjoyed their time catching up while eating their breakfast, having laughs and jokes. When they finished, Spring got out from his chair, clearing his throat again before speaking.
"So, how about a nice walk?" Spring asked.
"Sure, I would like that, but before we start…" Tempest getting up as well and coming forth to give her friend a quick kiss on the cheek. "Thanks for breakfast and the chat."
"You're welcome…" Spring blushed with Tempest doing the same as well, not expecting that she would give the kiss herself, but she guessed it was her feelings showing her appreciation as she accepted it.
With the rest of the day ahead,, the two friends began their tort down the streets of the Crystal Empire, happy that they were back together as friends and they could put their past behind and look froward to the future, which they hoped would end in something more.
And there we go!
I hope you enjoyed this short story and with that…
See everybird later!
