Even though he was not a prince on Earth, Loki's relation to the Avengers meant a lot of people took notice of him. Even if he'd had no relation to Earth's mightiest heroes, he would have attracted attention.
One morning, Thor took Loki to the park to ride in one of the horse-drawn carriages. Thor had often helped Loki ride in Asgard, even sitting on the same horse and supporting Loki from behind.
Thor expected Loki to enjoy the carriage more than his wheelchair, but Loki was restless even with the rhythmic clip-clop of the horses' hooves. He tossed his head and shook his mane of hair, clearly dissatisfied with something as he looked out the front of the carriage.
Just as he did with his wheelchair, Loki pitched himself to the ground, laying across the walking path of the park. He settled down there, seeming more content with a side view of the horses, rather than a rear view.
Passing New Yorkers and tourists gave Loki the stink eye for blocking the path. Loki blocked bikes, strollers and another wheelchair, and gave no notice when they told him to move.
Thor stopped some hurried pedestrians from simply stepping over Loki. A few people made their way around him, while others gawked. Some asked Thor for autographs, but all Thor's attention was on Loki.
Loki turned to stare at some pigeons and waved his book so the pages flapped like wings. As the pigeons took off, the book flew up to meet them, still flapping its pages.
Thor sighed as he scooped Loki up. The crowd slowly dispersed as the path was blocked, but several people had filmed the book in flight with the birds.
Fury would definitely be contacting them about this.
Thor ended up yelling at Fury, who chose to call rather than visit.
"I have told you, Loki is not a threat!"
Thor was gladdened that his team had his back and, more importantly, Loki's.
Tony smirked at the director onscreen "Should we call you 'Fraidy? I mean, he tried to de-patch a pirate, but-"
Fury interrupted, demanding to know what Loki was capable of, but nobody, not even Loki, seemed to know the extent of his powers. Loki often seemed surprised by his own magic, watching the results with great interest. Considering his own body did not fully listen to him, it was hardly surprising that he lacked the ability to control his magic.
Fury turned to Tony and Bruce. "Do you know how it works? Is there a way to block it?"
Thor's expression darkened like storm clouds. "You will not strip Loki of his magic. It lets him call things to him. Magic gives him control."
"But he can't control it," Fury countered.
"He may learn," Thor replied, beaming at Loki. "Already, I have seen him perform magic he has not performed in a long time."
Thor remained tight-lipped as to which magic that was, though the team knew. When looking at his reflection in a mirror, a bunch of illusion Lokis had appeared in the bathroom.
When Fury finally hung up, Tony huffed. "Loki just can't lead a quiet, peaceful life, can he?"
Everyone shot Tony a look at that. Even Loki looked at him, as if seeing the irony in the statement coming from any of them.
There were lizards loose in Manhattan. Large lizards, which were either aliens or some mad scientist's genetic experiment. They were really closer to dinosaurs, with horns and spikes, only they all spat acid or fire.
Thor delivered a devastating blow with Mjolnir as he asked "How is Loki?"
"Coulson watches Supernanny. He should have this covered." Iron Man replied in over the secure team channel. He dodged a glob of acidic spit and muttered "It's a good thing Loki doesn't spit this stuff out."
Thor grumbled at Stark's comment, blasting the next lizard with a bit more lightning than was truly necessary. The charred remains smoldered on the street.
"You should be more worried about Loki almost stabbing Coulson with a pen again." Clint commented as his arrow flew, the tip stabbing through another lizard.
Tony knocked one lizard down with a repulsor. "Jarvis says he's sleeping,"
"Coulson or Loki?" Thor questioned.
Natasha shot Thor a look as she vaulted over one lizard's tail. "If Coulson can keep all of us in line, he can handle Loki just fine."
Thor continued to fret about his brother throughout the battle, and Steve joined in trying to reassure him. While Thor had certainly shared a lot about Loki before bringing him to Earth, he'd not fretted nearly so much about leaving Loki on Asgard.
Once the lizards were all being incapacitated, SHIELD agents came to clean up the mess.
When they returned to the tower, they found fallen agents in the penthouse.
"What happened?" Steve asked. Really, they should have known one of their enemies would go after Loki, likely seeing him as an easy target.
"Kidnappers." Coulson's suit jacket was ripped, his tie askew. Even his usually mild voice sounded somewhat surprised. "They were very interested in his magic, and said he would be a blank slate for them."
"How did they get in?" Tony frowned, his mind already planning out security upgrades to fix the oversight. "Jarvis, did you deploy defensive measures?"
"Of course, Sir. Mr. Loki did as well."
Tony turned to Loki, who was busy trying to stuff an unconscious intruder's head into his candy cauldron. "Don't tell me you really can spit acid."
Coulson and Jarvis filled them in. Loki hadn't spat acid, but he had shot fire from his hands while playing Black Sabbath like in Tony's lab. He'd teleported, which wasn't new.
What was new was him turning into some odd, wolf-like creature to claw and snap at the intruders.
Bruce pinched the bridge of his nose. "So it's not just me who turns into a beast,"
Loki crawled toward Clint, who had some scrapes and cuts from the battle. Loki licked a cut on Clint's arm, healing him like after the coffee incident.
"You've got a silver tongue." Clint said, only seeming a bit weirded out to be licked.
Thor beamed. Loki could be chaotic, and a warrior. He may not have yet been able to pick yes or no, but he'd clearly learned something from when Frigga used healing magic.
Clint shared about a safe house, which he admitted housed his wife, son and daughter.
"Why have you been hanging around the tower, then?!" Tony demanded, surprisingly invested in how present Clint was in his children's lives.
"Plenty of military parents get deployed." Clint replied, and Steve nodded empathetically.
Tony's eyes lit up. "Was your Halloween mission Trick-or-Treating?"
"Yes," Clint said, a fond smile on his face. "Lila went as Merida."
Thor eyed Clint thoughtfully, but his voice was full of guilt when he spoke. "You kept your family a secret to avoid attention from your enemies."
Clint nodded. "They're not on SHIELD's files or anything."
Tony huffs. "No wonder I thought you were a bachelor when I hacked in,"
"Loki will be safer there, while we figure out who was behind the attack."
Thor looked overwhelmed, wrapping Clint in a too-tight hug. "You trust Loki around your children, despite his powers?"
"He hasn't used them on us. He's been mad without losing control. No offense, Bruce." Clint shot an apologetic look at Bruce, though he had a pretty good lid on the Hulk. "Besides, he's healed me twice."
"I will stay with him," Thor declared, then glanced at Clint. "That is, if your home is hospitable to-"
Clint waved him aside. "Laura's the best, but she's got her hands full with Cooper and Lila. Besides, I don't think anyone but you can lift Loki."
I started this fic with Human Disaster Clint Barton, but Hawkeye is my favorite Marvel show and I love Dad Clint, so I decided he's a Human Disaster Dad. But bumbling sitcom dads get annoying... hopefully Clint doesn't come across that way.
This chapter was inspired by Jack-Jack and Grogu. Even though Loki's not a baby, I just couldn't stop thinking of the wild powers and Grogu healing Mando.
