Chapter 2: Battles
Viridian Forest
My stay at Viridian City was nothing eventful unlike the first time I was here. There was no sign of Team Rocket anywhere and I was thankful for that. I had given mom and Professor Oak a call who congratulated me on my first capture. I had visited the Pokemall in the City and had bought necessary items for my Pokemon like Potions and Antidotes. After all, I am planning on conducting some heavy training in the Viridian Forest. Now that I look back into my old life, I was quite lucky to have made it into the Kanto league as I did. After all, I never really trained my Pokemon seriously unlike most trainer, opting to rely on split second battles than doing some actual training. This is going to change this time around.
"Come out guys" I called my partners out as they were released from their balls. Both of them had been healed in the Pokemon Centre of Viridian City and was ready to go.
"Alright guys, today we are going to get in some good training Okay?" I said excitedly.
"Char." "Jok." It seems that they too shared my enthusiasm. I have already planned out the day and if everything goes as planned, then I will have Charmander close to evolution and ready for the Pewter Gym by the end of the day. Back in my Previous life, a lot of my Pokemon evolved rather slowly and this was something I had to be blamed for. After all, I never really trained them on the road like most trainers did, opting to play catch up with Gary who was riding a car. I had already decided that I'm going to do this at a slower pace than my previous life.
"Alright charmander, I need you to practise over there on your ability to spew flames. I need you to spit it as hot as you can. This will help you to learn Flame Thrower, which is going to be very important in this journey." I said to Charmander while pointing towards a big rock away from all the grass. As much as I wanted to train him, I didn't want to burn down the forest.
"If you encounter any wild pokemon, just give me a heads up okay?" I said to him as wanted to level Pidgey more so that she can be used in Misty's gym.
"Char." He nodded before leaving.
"Alright girl, let's get you up to shape. You already know some powerful moves, so let's get your level up." I said.
We started walking on the grass, never straying too far from Charmander who had started his own training. It was not long before we encountered our very first Pokemon. Just as it had been in the last life, it was a Caterpie but unlike last time, I have no intention of catching it.
"Alright girl, get in close and use tackle. I decided to start with a physical attack to understand how high her Attack was. Also Caterpie was a safe opponent to use physical moves as compared to a Weedle, who could poison the opposition.
As soon as she heard my command, she unfurled her wings a took a short flight before crashing on the poor bug from above. The power of the attack was understandably too much for it as it couldn't even form a proper defence before fainting. Back when I was with Gary, we had scoured the entire region gathering data on how high the level of the wild Pokemon was in different parts of the region. The data gathered showed that the highest recorded level was that of Beedrills in the hive at the centre of the forest who at maximum, was level 7. This was one of the reason why I decided to train here. The Pokemon here could provide some quick experience to mine without being too much of a risk.
We continued to battle this way, encountering mainly Caterpie and Weedles, with the occasional Metapod and Kakuna along the way. The training was paying it's due as Pidgey reached level 13. She was growing rather quickly so i decided to give her a well deserved rest.
"Alright girl, you take a good rest while I help Charmander with his training." I told her.
"Charmander, come here buddy." I called out to my starter who was still practising his flames. I conducted a quick scan with Dexter which showed that he was still at level 12 and hadn't learned Flame Thrower either but I was not too disappointed. After all, controlling his flames is something that will be integral in our future fights.
"Let's start training shall we?" I asked him.
"Char." Yep, he is ready.
Quest Activated: The Bees Are Buzzing
Description: The master is very happy with your progress and wishes to test your skills even further. He wishes to see how well you can evolve a pokemon.
Details: Capture a Weedil and evolve it into a Beedrill.
Reward: 3 Full Heals
'Well this is new. I suppose this is how you are going to help me in the future?' I asked the system in my mind .
'The Host is correct. The system right now is extremely limited and can only act as a passive system for the host. But the system shall grow as the host progress in his journey.'
'That's okay, I have a lot of time anyways.' After all, I was planning to travel all the six regions anyways.
"Welp let's finish the quest and level you up shall we buddy?"
The training was basically the exact copy of what i was doing with Pidgey.. We ran around the grass, encountering mostly Caterpie and Weedle with some Kakuna and Metapods. Given that Charmander was a fire type, Bug pokemon were easy. While I wanted to finish the quest, levelling Charmander was my first priority. After knocking out around thirty pokemon, Charmander reached level 15. He learned Metal Claw at level 13, which was something that I needed him to do before we challenged the Pewter Gym. I was not going to rely on Brock's kindness this time around. While I wanted to help my long time friend, I also want to win with my own strength.
"Alright Charmander, we are going to capture this guy, Okay?" I called out to Charmander as a wild Weedle popped up from a nearby tree.
"Char." He gave a small growl as acknowledgement of my command.
"Use Growl." I gave him a command. I couldn't use more damaging moves as pokeballs would not capture fainted Pokemon. I had heard from Gary that this system was created by Professor Elm in order to prevent Pokemon from being captured by underhanded techniques like attacking them with multiple Pokemon and fainting them.
Charmander let out a rather intimidating growl which stopped the charging Weedle in it's track. From what I learned in my Previous life, Growl reduced the attack stat of the foe.
"Alright bud, he is going to use Poison Point so start running around him." I could see the horn of the tiny Pokemon glowing which meant that it was charging it's Poison Point attack. Just as predicted, Weedle used Poison Point but Charmander was quite nimble in dodging them all.
"Good job bud, now get close to him and use Metal Claw." I know that Steel Type attacks were ineffective against bug types, but that was what I wanted. It would ensure that Weedle will not faint right away. Charmander covered the distance between them rather quickly, with his claws glowing a grayish white colour and gave a rather weak swipe at it, injuring the little bug but not fainting him.
Not wanting to hurt the little bug more than he is, I threw a pokeball at him. The small Pokemon was sucked in by the ball which after three shakes, gave a ding indicating the capture.
"Welcome to the team little buddy." I said to the pokemon inside the ball.
"Come on out Weedle." I yelled out as I threw the ball out.
"Weedle." Came a rather weak reply as my newest capture made it's presence known.
"Before we introduce ourselves, let's get you healed up shall we?" I asked the little bug which gave a tiny nod of approval.
I took out a potion from the bag which I had bought from the Viridian Pokemart. Given that Weedle was very low level and had no Status Ailments, it was more than enough to get him back in top form again.
"Pidgey, come here." I called out to my bird who was resting in the shade of a nearby tree watching over us.
"Weedle, My name is Ash Ketchum and I am your new trainer. This here is charmander and Pidgey. They are my partners."
"Char" "Jok" The two pokemon gave a small cry as introduction.
"From today onwards, we are going to become partners okay?" I said to the small bug to which it gave a small nod before crawling near to my other two pokemon, doing what I presumed was an introduction.
"Let's get you scanned shall we?" I said to no one in particular as I took out Dexter to do a scan of Weedle.
Weedle, The Hairy Bug Pokemon.
Weedle has an extremely acute sense of smell. It is capable of distinguishing its favourite kind of leaves from those it dislikes just by sniffing with its big red proboscis (nose).
This Weedle is a Female and has the ability Shield Dust.
This Weedle is currently Level 5 and knows the moves Poison Sting and String Shot.
"Hmm this is pretty standard for a Weedle found here. But since you are Level 5, it means we can fight some pokemon around here." I said to the little bug who looked happy at being able to fight.
"But not before we have lunch." I said as my stomach gave a rather lound growl of it's own.
Lunch passed by quickly with us taking a small break of an hour in order to digest the food we ingested. Given that I had more than two deacades worth of experience in cooking, i was more than capable of cooking a good meal for both me and my pokemon. Lunch break was soon over as we found ourselves moving through the Forest. We encountered a few wild pokemon who were dispatched by Pidgey and Charmander. Weedle had grown to level 6 and was now on the verge of reaching level 7.
"Finish him off with Poison Sting." I gave the command to Weedle, who was fighting a Metapod. It took her some time but, this attack was enough to finish the opposing Pokemon off.
"Good job girl." I called out as the opposing Metapod fainted.
"Dle." She gave a small but happy growl before being enveloped in a bright light. After a few seconds, the glow dimmed and She had become a Kakuna. I took Dexter out again as I scanned her.
Kakuna, The Cocoon Pokemon
Kakuna remains virtually immobile as it clings to a tree. However, on the inside, it is extremely busy as it prepares for its coming evolution. This is evident from how hot the shell becomes to touch.
This Kakuna is a Female and has the ability Shed Skin.
This kakuna is currently Level 7 and knows the moves Poison Sting, String Shot and Harden.
"Congrats on the evolution girl. Take a good rest inside the ball okay?" I said as i recalled her back to her pokeball.
The rest of the day was spend Travelling through the forest and battling wild pokemon. Charmander was on the cusp of reaching level 16 and Pidgey had reached level 15, learning Quick Attack at Level 13. Kakuna had reached level 9 and was now one fight away from evolution. We were near the Centre of the Forest and were planning to camp for the night when a rather unnatural moving grass caught my attention.
"Oi! I can see you, no need to try to hide." I called out as I had a hunch on who it was.
"Oh? You were able to see past my disguise? As expected of a trainer from Pallet Town. Now fight me." As expected, It was Bug Catcher Samurai. The appearance of this guy brought back my old memories.
"While I am all for battling, it is getting late and I don't want to spook the Beedril hive. So can we fight tomorrow?" It was after all, getting dark. I needed to prepare dinner so a fight was not ideal right now.
"Ah i understand oh trainer from Pallet Town. Then I shall leave for now and come back tomorrow in the morning." He said.
"Good then. I will wait for you here." I said as he left.
Preparing Dinner was done pretty quick and soon it was bedtime. I was pretty excited to see how the training i done this time around would affect the outcome of the fight tomorrow.
"Goodnight guys." I said to my pokemon who decided to sleep outside in case of wild pokemon attacking at night. After all, it never hurt to be careful.
Night passed by peacefully and soon it was Sunrise. I had woken up at first light as it was something of an instinct to me by now. Breakfast was soon prepared and now it was time to wait for Samurai to show up. The guy was rather punctual as he had arrived by 9 in the morning.
"Are you ready Trainer from Pallet Town?" The guy asked.
"First of all, my name is Ash Ketchum, don't tire yourself out with this trainer from Pallet Town business and Second, i am more than ready." I said.
"Well then, let's start. Go Pinsir." Just as I remembered, he sent out his Pinsir.
"Pidgey, I choose you." I called out as well.
"Then I shall make my first move, Pinsir use Vice Grip." He ordered his Pokemon.
"Take to the skies girl and dodge it." I gave out my order. Given that this Pinsir was only Level 10, he was unable to fly. This meant he was a sitting psyduck as far as aerial attacks were concerned.
"Pidgey, use Gust and keep using it until he faints." Given how helpless Pinsir was, I decided to end this fight quickly. Although I could hve used physical attacks, that was unwise given there's a risk of Pidgey getting caught in Pinsir's grip.
It took Pidgey three full powered Gust attack to fain Pinsir, which was a testament to how much perseverance the pokemon had.
"Pinsir return. That was a good match buddy." I heard Samurai say. "Go Metapod." He send out his final Pokemon.
"Pidgey return. You were fabulous out there girl." I returned Pidgey, even though there was no real need to. "Go Kakuna." I decided to send out the cocoon pokemon and given that Samurai's Metapod didn't know any attack other than Harden, I could use this opportunity to evolve her.
"Metapod use Harden." Samurai called out.
"Kakuna, use Poison Sting." I gave my command. I don't know whether it was luck or not, but it looked like the Poison Sting was successful in poisoning the Metapod but my happiness was short lived as Metapod's Shed Skin got rid of the poisoning.
The fight was over after ten minutes when Metapod finally ran out of HP. Samurai recalled his Metapod back and said, "I have fought all the three trainers from Pallet Town that came before you but I must say that you are the only one to have completely demolished me like this without even using your starter. I shall now depart on a journey to better myself so that I can fight you again i the future. Thank You for this fight." He said before he left.
"That was a good fight girl. Now take a good rest." As I was about to call her back, Kakuna started to glow again. The glow soon diminished and in place of Kakuna, now stood a fully grown Beedrill. I took Dexter out to scan her only to be surprised at what I saw.
Beedrill, The Poison Bee Pokemon
Beedrill is extremely territorial. No one should ever approach its nest- this is for their own safety. If angered, they will attack in a furious swarm.
This Beedrill is a Female and has the ability Sniper.
This Beedrill is currently Level 10 and knows the moves Poison Sting, String Shot, Harden and Fury Attack.
The fact that Beedrill had a hidden ability was something truly mind boggling but I decided to choke it up to the system for my sanity's sake. Before i could say anything else, i heard the familiar voice of the System.
*Ding*
Quest completed: The Bees are Buzzing.
Quest rewards have been granted and has been deposited in the Medicine Pocket of the Host's Bag.
The system wishes the host well for his future exploits.
The rest of the Journey was focused more on travelling than training but I used Beedrill against some wild pokemon until she reached Level 15. Soon, the end of the massive forest was in sight and I could see the hill overlooking Pewter City. I am pumped for my first gym battle and I knew that this time, it would go well.
Once again, that's all folks. If you are still reading this, then that means you have decided that it was not cringy enough for you to exit as fast as you came and I sincerely thank you for that.I had a guy ask me why not hack Pikachu to make him OP ( he was the only guy who reviewed last chapter) so I must say that it is because I do not like Pikachu. Moreover, I have no confidence in writing Pikachu's character.Anyways, thanks for reading. My biggest dream is to have at least thirty reviews by the time I hit chapter 10.
