Disclaimer: Why the hell do I have to repeat that I do not own Pokémon every chapter?
Chapter 7: You were expecting plot but it was me, Training.
Day 3
Today was a good day. I got out of the Pokémon Centre very early and decided to find a new training spot. Since the Pokémon at the usual spot were not going to give a lot of exp, I decided to go even further into the woods. The Pokémon here should be stronger than the ones at the outskirts was what I thought and frankly, I was right.
The Pokémon here weren't any different from the ones in the outskirts as far as the variety of species went, but they were of a much higher level. An increase of three or four levels may not seem much but for it made power levelling much easier.
Since there was a quest, I decided to train up Ivysaur and Wartotle who were much easier to train than Kadabra who was more of a long term project. The problem with Kadabra is that to turn him into an Alakazam, I had to use a trading machine and if Kadabra was too high levelled when I did that, there was a huge risk of him refusing to obey me.
But I didn't completely avoid him as he was really easy to train. I didn't need to give him many commands as he only knew three attacks, two of them completely useless in a wild battle. But out of the Ten hours I planned for, Ivysaur and Wartotle was the focus for four hours each with Kadabra being focused on the remaining two.
Ivysaur was as always hard to train as he was ineffective against three out of the four Pokémon found in this part of Kanto. There were some rare Pokémon in this forest but it was nearly impossible to find them much less capture them. Anyways, Ivysaur primarily fought using Tackle and an occasional Sleep Powder against some more powerful Pidgeys.
Speaking of Pidgeys, Pidgeotto levelled up once during the rock training when she beat up a wily gang of Pidgeys who were causing hell while she was flying around. Although they were really high levelled for this place, she still had a good 15 levels on them which meant that it was more of a one sided slaughter than a battle. But exp is exp the added bonus of being restricted while fighting allowed her to level up. She was now Level 30 and my quest bar showed that I was 50% finished.
Now going back to Ivysaur, all the Tackle training was doing wonders for his body as he was slowly becoming sturdier. Pokémon have a real fast growth cycle so any and all training we did with them would be quick to show on their bodies. This phenomenon was something that Professor Oak studied in depth and he had come to the conclusion that this was caused due to the evolutionary process. Pokémon, who can evolve further, shows this ability as they cannot afford to waste too much time on their new body. When Ivysaur evolves into Venusaur, this process slows down as he has a long time to adjust to the new body. Ivysaur now had a good stout body and his Vine Whip was amazingly fast which negated his lack of physical speed.
Today's training session which lasted for four straight hours, bore exceedingly high results. He grew by six levels from the time we started and learned Razor Leaf by the end of it. I told him to take a good rest inside his pokeball as four hours was more than enough training for today. By then, Charmeleon, who had been tempering his flames had stopped his training for the day and joined me.
After eating lunch, I decided to train Wartotle just the same as I did with Ivysaur. He had already been strengthening his Water Gun every day so that paid off rather nicely. He could now keep up with the random Grass type that popped up in this place without taking much damage and the battles against the remaining two were cut really short. This helped Wartotle highly as he was getting quicker every battle. I wanted to train his physical speed but that was not until he became a Blastoise so it was only fights for now.
The extra time that he received to practise as compared to Ivysaur helped Wartotle to one up his rival. He grew a whooping seven levels by the time we finished and learned Bite which meant that he now had a legit way against weaker grass types. I still had two hours left before the scheduled time which was then spend giving pointers to Kadabra, who at one point started to test how far he could throw his opponents with his psychic powers on a poor Oddish. Although the time I let him battle was only half of what the other two got, Kadabra deemed it more than enough to get 4 levels in. As he grew stronger, the time he took to battle was getting shorter and shorter which meant that he still got a truck load of exp in two hours time. He had learned Disable and Psybeam by now.
In fact, I was sure that Kadabra could be a Psychic powerhouse in the future if I can train him right given the fact that Alakazam was one of the strongest Psychic types out there in all the six regions. We finished up after that and returned to the Pokémon Centre where Brock was already waiting for me. Brock told me that he had finished training his Pokémon and was now planning to help out at a nearby Breeding centre so that he could get to meet new Pokémon. We went to sleep earlier than usual as we were really tired.
Results for the day: Ivysaur level 22, Wartotle level 23, Kadabra level 22, Pidgeotto level 30.
Day 4
Today was an off day as far as battling was considered. We didn't leave the Pokémon Centre, opting to remain in the training ground behind it. As far as my tem was concerned, today was bonding day. Everyone was out of their Pokeball and was having mock battles with each other. This served two purposes for them as they could get acquainted with each other better while training to fight against type disadvantages by battling among each other.
Wartotle and Charmeleon formed a pair while Ivysaur and Pidgeotto formed another one. Kadabra was not paired up as he had no particular weakness against the others. Wartotle started the training by spraying a low powered Water Gun at Charmeleon who had to train against water type attacks. Although he took some damage, the overall idea was to gradually reduce the damage he took from these types of attacks. While there was no method to avoid damage from a super effective attack, it could be reduced by a lot if we train on it.
The strength of his flames was also tested as I had him try and match Wartotle's Water Gun in terms of power. This was also important as a fully grown Charizard could evaporate the water attacks from a lesser water type without much trouble.
Over on the other side of the field, Ivysaur was getting hit all over with Pidgeotto's wings to get him used to getting hit with flying type moves. Pidgeotto was holding back quite a bit but Ivysaur still took quite a lot of beating. Since I still hadn't caught any Ice or Electric type Pokémon, Pidgeotto could only help like this. We continued like this for some time before taking a break and healing them up at the centre.
After the break, I switched up the pairings and the starters were paired in a three way partnership. Wartotle was to fire low power Water Gun at Charmeleon who would spew weak flames at Ivysaur who in term would use grass type attack on Wartotle. They had to do this for as long as they physically could and even beyond that. As for the remaining two, I found a way to improve both of them at the same time. Kadabra would use his psychic powers on Pidgeotto to weigh her down considerably. This allowed Pidgeotto to do weight training without any actual weight. Also Kadabra could grow his psychic strength so it was a win win.
This part of training was much shorter than the previous session and we took a break to eat lunch. There was a cafeteria in the Pokémon Centre so I didn't need to cook. After lunch, the exact same routine of the previous session was repeated and this session was a little longer which showed that the Pokémon were getting used to it. I called off training after two hours passed and after healing up everyone, we played around for a little bit.
Through this interaction with my Pokémon, I learned that although they remembered me from their past lives, the finer details were lost on them. They only had a general outline like how they did in regional leagues and when they evolved and stuff like that and had no recollection of the final years of my life. Pidgeotto though had a deep dissatisfaction with being abandoned but didn't delve into that too much as she was now happy at being properly trained to grow stronger.
Brock came back late afternoon so we went shopping in the nearby town for necessities. Although I wondered what Misty was up to, but soon forgot about that in favour of planning out my shopping. As a trainer, money was never an issue for me as I never spent it outside of necessities. In fact, the money I had earned by the time I reached Kalos was more than enough to support me for the rest of my life. My poor record at the leagues aside; I was a considerably successful trainer as far as money went.
The rest of the day went by quickly and I was planning on levelling them up again.
Results for the day: None.
Day 5
With the increase in combat skills yesterday, we started to delve even further into the woods. I wanted to get the guy at least to level 30 before the seventh day was over. By now we reached the centre of the woods and all the Pokémon here were undeniably the strongest in here, with some of them even being close to level 20. Also, the wild Pokémon here were not shy of battling at all as they all were used to fighting among themselves. The Oddishes were lead by a powerful looking Gloom and the Bellsprouts had a strong Weepingbell as their chief. I decided not o fight them as a loss could undermine their authority as chief and I didn't want them to plunge into a civil war. The thing about wild Pokémon is that when they fight against a trained Pokémon, they get a decent amount of exp even if they lose. This meant that none of the Pokémon I fought previously would shy away from taking another shot at my team. If I didn't hurt them too badly, then they would ensure a steady supply of Pokémon for me to battle. That is one of the major reasons why trainers had to be extra careful when fighting a wild Pokémon that they didn't intend to capture.
I mixed up the order of fighting today with Wartotle being the one who started off things. He was now much more durable against grass type attacks even though the Pokémon here were much more powerful. This coupled with the steady rate of victory that he had ensured that his growth rate didn't slow down. By the end of the fourth hour, he had grown another 6 levels which brought him to the threshold of level 30. His Water Gun was now really powerful and the other attacks like Bubble and Bite were also well trained. He had also learned Rapid Spin as well which was a good thing.
With Ivysaur, the battles were much easier than the day before yesterday. He had grown incredibly sturdy and was now tanking hits from the opposition rather easily. Although the grass type attacks he had were not very effective, the raw power he held made up for it. Even so, his growth rate was not as high as Wartotle but he still ended up growing another five levels taking him to level 27. But the best thing was that he had learned how to accurately hit with Razor Leaf and the strength behind that technique was now devastatingly high as a few rather unlucky Meowths found out. Hell, I had to heal their wounds using my Potions so that they would not be left for dead.
Kadabra was as always the wild card and the results of his training with Pidgeotto was already starting to show. For me, training him was more of playing a game than actual training. He was tossing around his opposition and at one point of time, defeated more than five Pokémon at the same time. This meant that he had grown more than the other two and had gained an incredible 8 levels in just two hours time. He learned Reflect at level 23, Recover at level 25 and Future Sight at level 30 which meant that his array of moves were now extremely huge. But honestly, this was all the levelling up that he could do here for now. Although he learned an attacking move like Future Sight, its use meant that the amount of time he could fight out here using it was much shorter and the amount of exp given by these Pokémon were no longer a viable option to level him up.
But the good thing was that the quest was now almost completed and I was looking forwards to what the new feature of the system was.
Results for the day: Wartotle level 29, Ivysaur level 27, Kadabra level 30.
Day 6
Today was the day that the quest was going to be completed. I left the Pokémon Centre a little late as Nurse Joy had needed a little help in organising the food supplies for the week. I decided not to go too far into the forest as I was not in a hurry to level up. It took a while for Ivysaur to get those three level that he needed, taking almost five hours for the whole process but he did end up learning Sweet Scent which was going to be an important move for us in the future. He was now just two levels from evolving into a Venusaur which was a great prospect but I was sure that Charmeleon was going to evolve first. Just as I was having lunch, a system message popped up.
Quest Completed: Do I look like I care about that overgrown rat?
The Encounter for Rare Pokémon has permanently increased by 10 percent and will include Shiny Pokémon.
The System has levelled up and has reached level 2
Rebooting System... Complete.
Installing New Features... Complete.
Initializing System... Complete.
The Pokémon finder has been installed and is now ready for use.
Would you like to know more about the Feature?
Yes No
'Yes'. I said in my head.
Command Accepted.
The Pokémon Finder feature allows the Host to encounter a wild Pokémon of the Host's choosing without failures. However, this feature works within the following conditions
1. The Pokémon in question should be naturally found in the place.
2. Shiny Encounters will not be made.
3. The Level of the Pokémon will be close to the level of the wild Pokémon found there.
4. This only works if the Host has not yet encountered the Pokémon in the wild.
5. Legendary Pokémon cannot be generated this way.
This Feature has a Cooldown period of 30 days and is currently unusable as the Host has encountered all the Pokémon in this Route.
Some of the restrictions will be removed after the system reaches the next level.
That was a fantastic new addition. This meant that I could now catch some rare Pokémon that had eluded me in my previous life like the Dragons. I always wanted to catch the Dragon types but I was not prepared to own one which showed why Gible never evolved. But I was sure I could do it in this life. Also, the cooldown period of thirty days didn't really bother me as there was not many Pokémon that I wanted to add to the team.
With the System levelling up, I was back with Wartotle who surprisingly levelled up after just two matches. It seemed that he was already on the cusp of levelling up from the excess exp he had gained. With all 5 Pokémon already reaching the planned level, I decided to call off training for the day. I returned to the Pokémon Centre by 2 PM. It was really hot out there so all ideas of a little extra training in the back were scrapped. Brock returned by 4 PM and we decided to play Poker with the other people in the Centre. It was really fun with the game going really late and by the time we called it off, it was already dinner time.
Results for the day: Wartotle level 30, Ivysaur level 30.
Day 7
Today was the last day of the training and it was all reserved for Charmeleon and Pidgeotto. The other three were given the day off and were currently resting at the Pokémon Centre. I was at the Centre of the forest and Charmeleon was the focus for today. Pidgeotto was given free reign as she was nigh invincible around here although I told her to be careful just in case.
I wanted to get Charmeleon to a level where he could evolve after facing Surge as I didn't want him to evolve before facing him. As everyone knows, Charizard is a part Flying type which meant that evolving him before beating Surge would lead to some unwanted drama. So my goal was level 35 and I had already setted Dexter's alarm function to remind me not to overdo it.
Training with Charmeleon was like unleashing a fiery hell upon all the resident Pokémon here. I scolded myself for not bringing Wartotle with me but it is what it is. Every single Pokémon that challenged us were dealt with ruthless accuracy and power. No one was hurt badly and after a gruelling 7 hours of fighting, we reached our goal. Charmeleon had learned Flame Thrower at level 34 and that made getting the last level that much easier.
There was no actual limit to how many moves that a Pokémon could learn, but often times the Pokémon tends to forget about moves which has a stronger version which the Pokémon already learned. For example, a Pokémon knowing Slash is likely to forget Scratch and Tackle is often times abandoned in favour of Take Down or Giga Impact even though the latter have recoil damage. But these kinds of moves were far and few between and was not applicable to elemental moves for the most part. Thundershock would be replaced by Thunderbolt but it wouldn't be affected by Thunder.
Pidgeotto was not idle in the time that I trained Charmeleon as she has grown two levels on her own and was now at level 32. She didn't learn any new moves but was now really good at using the moves that she already knew. I decided to end the session there as I had finished what I had planned on doing but we ended up helping the chiefs to collect some rare herbs for the fainted Pokémon.
And just like that, it was already night and tomorrow we would continue the jouney.
"Hey Ash, how did the training go?" Brock asked me while we were both on our beds.
"It went great Brock. I am all ready for the Vermilion Gym." I answered.
We went to sleep after that and I was now waiting for the next day to arrive. I was confident that I could easily clear Surge's gym and was soon out cold.
Results for the day: Charmeleon level 35, Pidgeotto level 32.
Okay that's it for the training montage. With this, it's already eight chapters if we count the prologue. Now that I am updating regularly, I need more reviews if possible. I know that not a lot of people read this, but to those that read this, please review.
I can keep up with a chapter at least once every other day for a long time, but I would hve to decrease the frequency if I do not get enough feedback.
Anyways with this a long training arc is done and dusted with. There will be more of these in the future as well. Also, I am loosely basing the levels on my own gameplay in Firered before I used any hacks other than to catch the three starters. It was where I got the idea for this fic in the first place.
Anyways, stay safe and if you feel like there's anything wrong, please feel free to PM me and I will respond as fast as I can.
Also, I don't have a Beta so if there's any grammar mistake, please tell me about it.
