Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of the Sun and the Inventor. Enjoy the 1000-word chapter. I don't own MLP, Hasbro and a few others do.
Maverick continued to look around the city with Celestia following after him. The scarred Pegasus turned to look at Celestia with interest.
"It's weird to be honest." Maverick said which caused Celestia to raise an eyebrow. "I mean, your sister not…" Maverick said while rubbing his head with his metallic hoof.
"Not raising and lowering the sun?" Celestia asked as if she had already expected the question. "Yes, it is quite a strange feeling, isn't it? Does it bother you? Not knowing my sister is handling her former royal duties?" Celestia questioned Maverick who shrugged, his transformed wing making a metallic click as he moved it.
"No, I'm just… Not used to it when it came down to it." Maverick said as he risked a look up at the stars once more. "I grew up when Luna reigned over the night." Maverick pointed out while twisting his hoof slightly.
He could only question what was happening back in Cantorlot. He had at least one relative who lived within Equestria's capital city and it made him question what things would be like.
He didn't dislike the idea; it was just so foreign to him. It had been a thousand years before Luna returned from the moon… Now to not have her raise it or lower it? It just felt off at the moment when it came down to it.
"How have you two adapted to it so far?" Maverick asked as he sat on the beach. "I can't imagine what it's like… Then again? I'm not going to act like I understand what it's like." Maverick stated and rubbed at his temples.
Celestia looked up at the setting sun. It was something that bedeviled her. The sun was like a treasure to her… And now that treasure had passed to Twilight. It no longer belonged to her command, her duties that she had preformed for thousands of years.
"It's… A new feeling, I will admit that." Celestia said as she stood on the sand. "But it is something that I find peaceful when it comes down to it…. Do you not like it?" Celestia questioned as Maverick turned to look at the former ruler of Equestria.
"No, I'm just not sure I'll be used to it." Maverick said while cupping his chin. "You don't get used to living through an era where everything was different." Maverick stated as he tapped his hooves through the sand below him.
Celestia turned to look at Maverick as Flotsam leapt onto the Pegasus turned and looked up at the otter. Maverick hummed and then smiled at the Otter while he tapped him on the head as he looked to the side.
"You know I never expected to meet the ruler of Equestria in my life." Maverick said as he titled his head to turn and look at Celestia while waving a hoof. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you… I'm just caught off guard by this. Flotsam? Stop trying to use my head like a springboard. Your not going into the ocean anytime soon." Maverick muttered before starting to move Flotsam off his head.
"My, you and him seem really close." Celestia put in which was met by a shrug as he turned.
"We've been friends for a few years." Maverick put in as he tapped the otter on the head. "I like making friends… But there are times where I feel like I'm choosing between life and my friends." Maverick said and rubbed at his temples with annoyance.
Celestia nodded and looked up at the setting sun. There were times when she felt like she was putting her work in front of her friends… But Maverick obviously couldn't compare a millennium of leading a country to his job.
"You know I've only been to Cantorlot a few times." Maverick pointed out as he ran his metallic hoof through sand. "Most of them told me about what happened… Tirek, Chrysalis and her army. Equestria's gone through nothing but hardship and strife after we've had so much peace." Maverick stated as he turned to look at Celestia.
Celestia hummed as she turned to Maverick. She remembered the villains who had tried to conquer the kingdom. She had dealt them countless years ago…. And now they were stone, an example of what would happen to those who tried to destroy her former subjects.
"Your acting a lot like Silver Shoals is nothing." Celestia pointed out which caused Maverick to hum.
"No, just curious." Maverick stated as he put a hoof under his chin. "Silver Shoals is about as far from Cantorlot as possible. I haven't been around to see the worst of it. I remember those Changelings who kidnapped everyone in the kingdom." Maverick pointed out as he tapped his hoof on the sand.
"Silver Shoals is peaceful, quaint." Celestia stated which caused Maverick to raise an eyebrow. "Not everything has to be big and majestic… Your mayor did a good job at keeping the town in order." Celestia pointed out to which Maverick nodded.
"Well, things are going to be much different down the road." Maverick said while blinking in surprise.
Maverick knew that things wouldn't be the same. They were living through an era with a new leader. A new kingdom in his mind… At least something would change.
Maverick didn't understand through what would happen next when it came down to it.
Maverick could only hum as Celestia looked up.
