This is a set of smaller one-shots that take place between Sheldon and Amy meeting in the coffee shop and their first date that Penny suggested.
Amy let herself into her apartment late on a Saturday afternoon and found the living room empty. "Hello?" She called out.
"We're in here," her mother replied from the bedroom down the hallway. "How was your coffee?" she asked as Amy entered the room.
"It was okay, I guess," Amy shrugged while kneeling on the floor next to two-year-old Max. "Thank you for offering to watch Max for me. It was nice to get out for a little while. How was Max this afternoon?"
"He woke up from his nap about half an hour after you left. He wasn't upset or anything that you weren't here; I know you were worried about that. He had a snack and we've been playing ever since. I should get going. I told your father I'd be home in time to make dinner," Mrs. Fowler stated as she stood from where she had been sitting next to Max. "Let me know if you decide to see this man again. I'd be more than happy to watch Max again for you."
Attempting to conceal a small smile, Amy nodded. "Thanks, mom. I'll let you know."
"Hello, Sheldon," Amy answered her phone a few weeks after she first met the physicist. Turning her attention back to the toddler in front of her, she held the phone's speaker away from her mouth and said to him, "Do you want a snack?" Seeing the boy nod his head, she reached into the cabinet and handed him an applesauce pouch.
Sheldon strained to listen for a response, trying to guess who Amy was talking to. "Hello, Amy. Is now a bad time? I can call back later."
Shaking her head to herself, "No, I can talk now. I was just getting a snack for Max. He's always looking for something when I get home from work, even though dinner will be in just over an hour."
"I don't blame him, I'm usually looking for a snack this time of day, too," Sheldon agreed with the girl who is his friend but is not his girlfriend.
"Momma, phone," Max held Amy's phone out to her.
Accepting the phone from her son, she shook her head, "Sorry, buddy. You don't need to play on my phone right now." As she said this, the screen lit up with another text message. "Oh, you were telling me it was going off, weren't you?"
The boy nodded as he replied, "Uh-huh."
"Thank you. It's Sheldon. I've told you about Sheldon. He's very nice and not at all like anyone I've ever met before. I was really worried the first time I met him that he wouldn't be interested in continuing to talk to me. A lot of men don't like the idea of getting to know a single mother," Amy smiled, just thinking of the man she was getting to know.
"Happy momma?" Max noticed his mother's smile.
"Come here," she pulled him into her arms. "Yes, I'm very happy right now. Nothing makes me happier than having you in my life. Even if I end up single for the rest of my life, that's okay with me because I have you. It's me and you forever. We're a team. Team momma and Max. There's nothing you and I can't do, as long as we're together." Amy relaxed into the couch as she held her son on her lap, rubbing his back as he slowly dozed off in her arms.
"Hi, Sheldon. Sorry for not answering earlier," Amy apologized into the phone after getting Max to bed for the night. She continued to stand in the doorway of his bedroom, watching the small boy sleep. "It's been a busy day for me. Your voicemail was a little hard to hear, but it sounded like you were asking me to dinner? Is that correct?"
"Yes, my neighbor Penny suggested we actually spend time together, rather than just talking on the phone, texting, Tweeting, and Facebooking one another. But if you're not available, I don't mind delaying until a time that works better for you," offered Sheldon.
Amy smiled, "It's fine. Max was just up at five o'clock this morning and was wanting to play. No matter what I tried, he would not go back to sleep. Then he dropped a toy in the toilet, which caused it to overflow. I got that mess cleaned up, but Max thought the water all over the bathroom floor looked like fun to play in. It was clean toilet water, but it was still toilet water, so I had to give him a bath in the middle of the day, which I wasn't planning on. It's just been a little hectic, but I would love to go to dinner with you. When were you wanting to go?"
Pausing for a moment to process the information Amy had just shared, Sheldon spoke, "Are you free tomorrow? I feel the sooner we do this, the sooner my neighbor will quit pestering me about if we've spent time together."
"I have to shuffle a few things, but I should be able to make tomorrow evening work. Do you mind if I check and get back to you in the morning?" Amy asked, knowing she would need to find someone to watch Max last minute and silently hoped her parents were free.
Smiling to himself, "Alright. Let me know at your earliest convenience if you are free tomorrow and I will let you know what time. Good night, Dr. Fowler."
"Good night, Dr. Cooper," Amy ended their phone call in the same way they ended all of their calls.
