Chapter 12: Mewtwo and the Temple of Mew.

Darkness

It was what I knew for the longest time. I still remember the time that I spend in it. I didn't have a body yet I was conscious, floating in the endless void without any purpose. When the light came to me, I met her. I didn't know her name. I didn't know where she came from or why she was helping me but she was my first friend. Perhaps I had fun for the first time in my life with her. I met my other friends through her. There was three of them, a small orange lizard, a green guy with a plant on his back and a blue turtle and her. I didn't know any of these at that time. We wandered around without any purpose doing whatever we felt like until one day, I lost everything. My friends were gone and I entered into the world of the living.

I woke up in a lab with creatures known as humans. From them I learned that I was what they called a Pokémon. I learned that I was nothing more than a clone of another Pokémon called Mew and that I was not supposed to exist in this world. To have my existence denied on the same moment of my birth changed me. I grew angry and wanted nothing more than to kill them all and be free but I was too weak. They chained me into a machine that drained my powers and kept me at bay, forced me to fight my brethren for their amusement.

For me, these times were hard. I was continuously growing angrier. I was angry at the humans for enslaving me and the Pokémon for being nothing more than mindless pawns at the hand of these humans. I wanted to be free from them all, to rule as an absolute god over each and every single one of them. I waited patiently for the humans to grow complacent over their control over me until one day, they faltered for a moment.

It was all that I needed to destroy them and I took great pleasure in erasing every single one of my captors from existence with my own hands. I found the place where my former captors were making clones of Pokémon and took it for myself. I even took control over one of the pink haired woman in the nearby Pokémon Centre as they called it. After that, I decided to test the strongest trainers that the region had to offer. My invitation was sent to every trainer who had eight badges but only four of them made it to my home.

We battled with each other using Pokémon that I had cloned from the 'Starter Pokémon' and they fell before them. So I took all their Pokémon as punishment and cloned them. I wanted to create an army of clones that would feel my pain of being denied of existing but what I didn't expect was the bravery of one foolish human boy. He freed all the Pokémon that I captured and was even willing to put his life on the line to stop the fight between me and my predecessor. His bravery touched me and I finally found a glimmer of hope that I had lost since her departure.

I reconciled with my predecessor and she was willing to keep my existence a secret from the other legendaries. Human beings were scary creatures. They were able to create me who is stronger than my predecessor and from what she said, I was among the strongest even among the legendaries. So I wiped the memories of the humans and their Pokémon before leaving the island for a place where my creations could live safely. I also made sure to erase the trace of the existence of the cloning technique.

The life at our new home was comfortable for a while but it was not to last. The man that commanded me once again tried to destroy my life by using my friends as a bargaining tool. I would have been forced to heed to his command had the young human not saved me once again. I decided to let my friends into the wild so that they could find a place for themselves and I decided to travel the world in search for a place to belong to.

I failed

It was not to be as everywhere I went was the same. Every single person was obsessed with making Pokémon fight and bring glory to their name. Even the legendary Pokémon that I came across were obsessed with power and tried to attack me to show their strength. I never lost a single battle and even unlocked the wonders of mega evolution. But in the end, all that I felt was a glaring feeling of emptiness that couldn't be changed no matter what. Even the god Pokémon Arceus abandoned me as I had no place in the natural order of things.

I travelled far and wide, until I came across him. The man that gave me a second chance was unlike anyone I've ever met before. He projected an aura of power that was unrivalled even by Arceus himself. He offered me a chance to go back to where it started so that I could take a new path in life which could end up changing my loneliness.

He even told me that destiny would come to me and told me a place to make my temporary abode. It was an old temple dedicated to my predecessor and I have been here for more than three years now. The time that he said that would change everything was fast approaching and I was perhaps feeling excited for the first time in ages.

[Ash's POV]

Today was the final day of training but there was no training for today. As all of my Pokémon were already at the target level, I decided to take a hike into the deepest part of this route. Although I could have very well used Charizard or Pidgeot to get to my destination, there was one thing that prevented me from doing so. The place that I was visiting was impossible to recognize from the sky as it was underground.

At the end of the woods surrounding Route 8, there was a big hill which separated Cerulean City and Lavender Town. This region was basically unexplored as there was nothing worthy of taking notice. Also, there was an extremely high chance of getting lost in the surrounding forest unless you had an appropriate flying type Pokémon. As such, most people never tried to go there opting to cross to Lavender Town by using the Rock Tunnel.

However what they didn't know was the fact that there was a hidden ruin in the hill which was one of the only places where you could find a Mega stone in Kanto. There was an Alakazite located there which was discovered ten years in the future. Mega stones were extremely rare, so I needed to be proactive when getting one. I already knew the location of a lot of these stones, which I planned on taking full advantage of.

This was one of the twelve places in Kanto that had a mega stone and was the first that I came close to in my journey. I had planned on going there after the Saffron Gym, but since I had a day to spare, I decided to go there anyways.

The common concept about Mega Evolution is that it had originated and is exclusive to Kalos but studies that ended three decades after my Kalos visit proved otherwise.The theory they came across was that mega evolution was used in almost every continent. But only the Kalosians were actually able to preserve their knowledge enough to use mega evolution in its earnest.

Kanto was one of the regions with the most number of mega Pokémon behind Hoenn which had a special connection to mega evolution due to the presence of Rayquaza and the Weather Duo who were one of the first Pokémon to use the power. The idea of Mega evolution is still foreign to this region as the knowledge about it was lost to the sands of time. The Temple of Mew is the one of the few surviving monuments of that era. The place was over three thousand years old which was a testament to how much of an engineering genius our predecessors were.

The hike through the forest was uneventful as most of the wild Pokémon stayed clear of us due to the presence of Haunter who was with me as the others were too big too bring out. We reached the base of the mountain in two hours and after eating the refreshments that I made, I climbed it. When I said climb, I meant that I started hiking. The mountain was steep and treacherous and was also one of the tallest peaks in the region. So climbing it was hard. I didn't need to reach the summit as my target was located near the halfway point.

I reached the target in two hours and stood at the entrance of what seemed like a small cave. However the inside was a different story. There was a huge cavern inside and at the back end of it, there was a big building which I recognized as the temple. As I was entering into the temple, i heard a voice.

"Is that you Ash?" The voice sounded like it belonged to a Pokémon so I turned back only to be surprised at what I saw.

"Mewtwo?" The last time I saw Mewtwo was in Mt Quena during the Rocket's attack. Afterwards, I never ran into him ever again. Although I did heard a few rumours about him.

"So you know who I am?" Mewtwo sounded surprised.

"Wait! How do you know my name? We weren't supposed to meet yet." I was surprised too.

Needless to say, the next hour was spent between us explaining how we reached the past. Seems like the god who sent me here also sent Mewtwo to the past. After hearing everything, I could piece together what happened to him rather easily. Mewtwo was someone who had no natural purpose in the world. Also, he was alone for the most part after the clone Pokémon left.

Every creature in the world, including humans had a purpose in life that was given to them by nature itself. Pokémon seeked strength and growth while humans searched for progress in their own way. Even the legendary Pokémon had their own jobs to do which gave validity to their existence. Mewtwo had none of these. He wasn't like ordinary Pokémon due to being born with extraordinary powers, he was not a human and unlike the legendary Pokémon, he had no job of his own. All this coupled with the loneliness that he felt at being all alone must have caused him great grief.

"Well Mewtwo, i have an offer for you." I said.

"What is it?" He asked.

"Join me." I said.

"What!" He sounded surprised.

"I don't mean as one of my captures for training. I want to capture you so that I can let you meet with Professor Oak. Staying with him will be real good for you." I said.

"Why?"

"Because your loneliness stems from your lack of knowledge about this world. You might have travelled a lot during your life, but you still miss a lot of things that you can't learn unless you study it closely. You might even find a purpose for yourself if you learn about things from him. I know travelling with me might sound like a good idea, but you have already seen the world once. Sometimes you just need to ground yourself to a place to find out what you are missing." I know what I'm talking about. Even I took a long stay at home after I finished travelling for the second time.

"I see. Can I have a few minutes to think?" I couldn't blame him as it was one of the most important decisions of his life. I could say that as I was right now, I wouldn't be able to beat him with my team. Mewtwo was well over level 70 from what I could feel and was not someone that I could simply take on right now. If Charizard was of the same level, then it would have been a different story.

While Mewtwo was thinking, I decided to find the stone that I came for. It was located in the centre of the temple between two Alakazam statues and was basically floating in midair. This temple was one of the few places where there were no trials before getting the stone. I got my hands on my first Mega stone and left the temple soon after.

Mega Stones are mysterious artifacts as even in the future, there wasn't much known about them. Some theorized that these stones worked by borrowing the energy of another dimension parallel to ours but without Pokémon, Kalos had a theory that Mega evolution was granted by their guardian deities in order to fight against an ancient foe. In the end, no one knows why Mega evolution is as it was.

Why do only certain Pokémon mega evolve? Why can't others do it? Why do some region have more kinds of Pokémon that can mega evolve while others don't?

All of these were questions unanswered even in the future. By the time I crossed, there was 41 Pokémon identified to being able to Mega evolve. (I calculated this number by omitting Mewtwo and Diancie whose mega forms shouldn't be identifiable to ordinary researchers and Audino whose Mega form was cancelled I think. Rayquaza would have made this list but then I remembered that I said Mega evolution was connected with the weather trio previously.)This number was based on the identified number of mega stones discovered. Some Pokémon like Lucario and the Kanto starters had their mega stones located in multiple regions, while others like the Hoenn starters had their mega stones located exclusively in Hoenn.

It was not like that Mega stones were only available in ruins like these. They were naturally formed in various places over the years but were hard to find. The quickest way to find them was to go to some ancient locations like these.

When I returned, Mewtwo looked like he made a decision so I asked him. "So. What do you think?"

"I'll accept it under one condition. I'll never fight another Pokémon in a battle. If you are fine with that, then i'll come with you." Mewtwo said.

"Fine by me but please keep an eye on my mom. There's a risk of her getting kidnapped by an Entei in the future."

"Fine. I hope that you are right about this." He said before tapping himself with a Pokeball which indicated a capture soon after. The Pokeball soon went in to a stasis after that due to me carrying seven Pokémon with me at the moment. Instead of transferring him over through the dex, I decided to do something I never did before in this life. It was time for Pidgeot to fly.

Route 8 to Pallet Town was a four hour flight even for Pidgeot who was fast. By the time I reached the town, it was already late afternoon. The first thing I did after arriving was to visit Mom who was really happy to see me. Although I didn't have too much time available to talk with her, I did gave her a small summary on how much I have grown. After saying bye to her, I entered the lab where the Professor was currently feeding the Pokémon.

"Hello Professor." I started.

"Oh! Ash my boy! How are you doing? Last time I heard that you were in Lavender Town. So how is the journey? ". Professor, who was a little startled at my abrupt arrival, asked.

"I'm fine Professor. I have three badges now." I replied.

"Not bad at all, my boy. Gary have five now but the other two haven't yet gotten their second badge. So is your visit related to your newest capture?" Professor said.

"So you knew?" I replied.

"Kind of, I guess. I knew that you made a new capture a few hours ago, but the data on it were not send to me. Also, the Pokeball itself was never sent over either, so I guessed that it was a special circumstance. So? What happened?" Professor said.

Soon after, I released Mewtwo from the ball after removing the stasis and explained the situation to Professor. Of course, the entire future business was omitted cause we didn't want to tell that to anyone.

"Well my boy. It seems that you have found yourself in a nice situation. But I'll take care of him from now on. But what should we do about his Pokedex entry? Without one, anyone can find out that he's a legendary quite quickly." Professor said.

"Well, I was hoping that we can come up with our own entry so that no one will be suspicious. What do you think Mewtwo?" I asked.

"I am fine with it. But please make it something not too obvious."

"Then how about making it so that his kind was believed to be extinct but was later found out to be alive?" I asked.

"That sounds like a good idea. But since he wants to lay low, let's make it that he only knows three or four moves, none of them being attacks." Professor chipped in.

"I am okay with that if it will make sure that the humans will not bother me again." Professor Oak's lab was one of the few places where a lot of people from the League came. So , a new dex entry was needed for Mewtwo for to stay unnoticed.

I decided to visit Beedrill once before heading back to Lavender Town. She was happy to see me. There were about ten Weedles nearby which were her children, and she was in the process of making a small hive. I was worried about the ecosystem, but since Beedrills tended to travel unless they were part of a huge hive. So the Weedles here would leave after they evolved. There was even a shiny weedle among her children who could be used for trading in the future, so I asked captured it before releasing it back making it my ninth capture overall. I soon said goodbye to her as well the Professor and Mewtwo before climbing back on Pidgeot and heading towards Lavender Town.

It was night time when I reached there and I soon met up with Brock who had bought dinner for me as well. There was a lot of stories that he had about his stay in the Town and I talked about how my training went. We soon went to sleep as tomorrow was the day to head on out for Saffron.

That's it for the day folks. The info about Pokémon isn't here as there isn't any change to it from the previous chapter. Also, Ash obtained an Alakazite which should be new right?

This entire chapter was completely OC which makes me nervous on how you will receive it. Most of my other chapters are loosely based on the anime itself but I decided that new things should be included here and there.

Anyways, there's a lot to address in this chapter so here I go.

1. I know I said that Ash won't capture legendaries, but Mewtwo is an exceptions as he won't be fighting. Ever. Also to anyone wondering why I said that Mewtwo should be weaker than Charizard, it is because the hack of being maxed out won't apply in his case. Also, there is no 10 percent boost either. Even if Mewtwo had the perfect Nature as well as Max IV, it wouldn't be equal to the boosted stats that Charizard has now.

2. Mega Evolution, will not be a part of this story until much much later. He will collect mega stones here and there but they are primarily for collection purpose.

3. About the poll, here's the list of Pokémon that got requested.

These are the Pokémon that are requested so far. As for the others like Beldum, those already have a slot in the future. Hell Even Riolu was planned for in Sinnoh but since most are asking for him, I decided to put him as well.

Also, a person is free to state their option a many times as they want. I will simply be counting the number of mentions and not the number of people mentioning them.

4. Now the problem of moveset of the Pokémon is something that I asuure you, will be addressed in the future before the league at bare minimum. Right now, I'm deciding how to incorporate TM and Tutor moves into the fic.
