Luz hasn't gotten her face out of the book for almost a week. She has learned more about this demon than she ever thought.

"King, did you know that a Protector demon is able to switch it's eating habits from carnivore to herbivore when prey becomes scarce?"

"Hey, less talky, more scratchy." King said, "I don't even know why you care about that so much, those have been extinct for centuries."

"Not according to Boscha's mom." Luz said.

When Boscha and Luz got back to Boscha's home, Luz saw Boscha's mom. She was tall, had pink scales, a tail, wings, massive claws and looked more like a living pink gargoyle more than a person. She smiled when she saw Boscha and started speaking in some demonic language, which Boscha seemed to speak fluently as she responded and hugged her mom. Boscha's mom saw Luz and smiled, allowing Luz to see her massive teeth. She turned into her mortal form and walked over to Luz.

"You must be Avatar Luz." She said, "It's a pleasure to meet you."

Luz was surprised when she saw the demon become a pale skinned, brown haired woman with glasses.

"H-h-hi."

"Mom, I think you scared her. She isn't used to seeing a nine foot tall demon." Boscha said, "There's something we need to talk about."

"Oh, does it have to do with you having a staff?"

Boscha held her staff behind her back.

"No, but I will start to brag about that later." Boscha said, "Someone broke in here."

"What?"

"They stole the pages from one of the demon books."

Her smile faded.

"What? What pages?"

"The Protector." Luz said, looking through her book.

"I don't know why someone wants that, but this can't be good." She said, "Boscha, I need you to help me."

"You got it mom." Boscha said.

"Wait, what is so special about a Protector Demon that someone would go through all the trouble?"

"I don't know, but I have to help them."

"I thought they went extinct?" Luz said.

"Not true, I had one when I kid." Boshca's mom said, "They should be alive still."

"What does she know about demons." King said, "There hasn't been one sighting for a long, long time. Now back to scratches!"

The door opened and Eda came in, all happy because it was "Human Treasure Day" aka, Eda collecting garbage. King and Eda immediately dived into the pile but Luz focused on her book.

"Kid, you aren't even in school yet and you're already face down in that book." Eda said, "Come on, Kid, the trash is getting cold."

"Oh, I forgot about going to school." Luz said, "Soon I'll learn about magic, hang out with my friends, maybe even have classes with Amity... Amity! Oh, cramity, I was supposed to meet her to get my Azura book back!"

Luz ran out the door and all the way to BonesBorough. She was looking through the market when she found her.

"Amity, Luz is here!"

"Hi, Luz!"

Luz fell down in surprise by the twins.

"Emira, Edric, leave her alone." She helps up Luz, "Sorry about that, they insisted on coming for some reason."

"Because we wuv you baby sister."

Emira hugged Amity's head and squeezed her cheeks, which caused Amity to shove her off.

"They've been extra protective ever since the library incident."

"Good." Luz said, "Otherwise I would show them what happens when I don't hold back."

The twins backed off a little and paled.

"Well, anyway, here's your book." Amity said, "By the way, how have you been since I last saw you?"

"Eh, I've been busy. I'm trying to find a certain demon, look for an ice glyph, and I'm getting nervous with being enrolled in Hexside."

"You what?"

"That's right, soon we'll be classmates." Luz said.

"So, you know at least two spells?"

"What?"

"You need to know two spells in the placement exam in order to be in my class."

"Huh, well, that's no problem, I can just get a little help from Eda."

"Why do you need to know an ice spell?" Edric asked.

"It could help with my Waterbending. I can't summon water like I can with fire, I'm constantly standing on some kind of rock, and I have air all around me. But Water? I need the physical thing in order to bend it. With the Ice glyph, I could have an infinite water source." Luz said, "I'll see you later."

Luz walked back to the Owl House, reading her book along the way.

"A Protector Demon is capable of living in a variety of environments, despite being a cold blooded reptile type demon, it can live in the hottest deserts to the coldest tundra and everywhere in between. Swamps, forest, plains, coastal regions, it is the most adaptable demon in history. Able to evolve to fit its current conditions in less than a day." Luz read, "Wow, this demon is absolutely amazing."

Luz closed her book and entered the Owl House.

"Eda, I'm back."

"I'm in the kitchen." Eda said.

Luz walked into the kitchen and saw Eda with a pot, vegetables, and her severed hand holding a book.

"Hey, what's cooking, good looking?"

"One, never say that again. Two, I'm trying to get these veggies to cook themselves." Eda poured a potion on them, "Alright, in the pot."

The vegetables ran away in fear.

"Why do I always think that's going to work?"

"So, I was wondering if you know where I could find an ice glyph." Luz said.

"I would guess the Knee, but I don't have time for that today, Kid. I have a guest coming over for dinner."

They heard a knock on the door.

"Can you get that Luz?"

Luz went to the door and opened it. On the other side... was Lilith.

"Miss Clawthorne?"

"Hello, young Avatar." Lilith said, "Is Edalyn home?"

"She's in the kitchen."

Lilith walked to the kitchen.

"Hey, Lily, I wasn't expecting you until tonight."

"Unfortunately, we'll have to postpone dinner. I need your help."
