4. Clash of Light and Darkness

I hope you guys are ready for this. I'll be honest, I'm not very happy at the moment. Not because of you guys. It's a personal issue that I'm dealing with. Anyway, since I now have a lot of time on my hands, I figured I'd get to work on the next chapter. I hope you enjoy it, and if you don't, there's absolutely nothing I can do about it.

Chapter Three

Clash of Light and Shadow

(Unknown location)

Stryker walked into the quarters of his leader, and bowed before him. "My lord, I understand you wanted to see me?" The black robed figure turned to him, his face twisted and contorted to the point where he did not look human. He looked more like a screaming ghost. Looking at Stryker, he said, "Yes, Stryker. I have a task for you. In Crystal Village, a Duel tournament is underway. Two of the contestants may be of some use to me. When the tournament ends, bring them here." Stryker bowed again. "It will be done, Lord Chaos."

(Duel Arena)

The MC spoke into his mic. "The next Duel will now get underway! Will both opponents please make their way to the arena?" The Shadow stood in his spot, facing Akiru's spot, waiting. As Akiru took his spot, The Shadow accepted the offered mic. "The younger brother of the champion. I've been waiting for this day for a long time." Akiru accepted his mic. "I don't know what your issue with me is, but I'm not gonna let you win." Both Duelists activated their disks, and the MC called out, "The Shadow will have the first turn! Begin!"

(The Shadow: 4000)

(Akiru: 4000)

The Shadow drew his card. "Hmm... I'll put this monster Face-Down, no more, no less. Now, let's see what you've got!" Akiru drew his card. "I'll Summon a Shining Angel to the field!"

(Shining Angel appeared: a level 4 monster with 1400 ATK)

Pointing at the set monster, Akiru called out, "Shining Angel, attack his Face-Down monster!" The monster was revealed to be a Mystic Tomato, to which Akiru gasped. "Mystic Tomato?!" The Shadow spoke up. "As you may know, when it's destroyed by battle, I can Special Summon a DARK monster from my Deck, as long as it has 1500 or less Attack Points." As the tomato was destroyed, The Shadow chose a card, and said, "I'll Summon out my Legendary Fiend!"

(Legendary Fiend appeared: a level 6 monster with 1500 ATK)

Akiru grimaced. 'That card gets stronger with every turn. I'll have to be careful.' Looking over his hand, he made a decision. "I'll Set two card Face-Down. That's it for now." The Shadow drew his card. "Now, before I go any further, I should mention that during my Standby Phase, Legendary Fiend gains 700 Attack Points, not that it matters, though."

(Legendary Fiend's ATK: 2200)

Akiru wasn't very impressed. The Shadow continued. "I'm going to show you how to feel fear, Akiru. I Summon Plaguespreader Zombie in Attack Mode!"

(Plaguespreader Zombie appeared: a level 2 monster with 400 ATK)

Akiru spoke up. "I've seen that card before. It's a Tuner monster." The Shadow nodded. "You're well read on your cards, but that won't save you. I Tune Plaguespeader Zombie with my Legendary Fiend, to Synchro Summon Thought Ruler Archfiend!"

(Thought Ruler Archfiend appeared: a level 8 Synchro monster with 2700 ATK)

Akiru gritted his teeth. 'If Thought Ruler Archfiend destroys any of my monsters, he gains Life Points equal to their Attack Points.' The Shadow looked at Akiru, and said, "So you've heard of Thought Ruler Archfiend, too. For those who haven't, when Thought Ruler Archfiend destroys a monster, I gain Life Points equal to that monster's Attack Points." As the audience gasped, Akiru simply waited. "Thought Ruler Archfiend, destroy his Shining Angel!" Akiru was ready. "I activate my Trap, Mirror Force! This destroys all Attack Position monsters my opponent controls, preventing the attack!" As his monster was destroyed, The Shadow simply stared at Akiru.

The MC spoke up. "Amazing! Akiru managed to get around Thought Ruler Archfiend's second effect, which would have negated any card effects that targeted it!" The Shadow spoke up. "So you knew about the second effect as well, and put it to use." Closing his eyes beneath his mask, he added, "Your skill is equal to my own. You are a worthy opponent." Akiru answered, "You're not so bad yourself." The Shadow faced him again. "But make no mistake. I still intend to win. I'll activate Monster Reborn in my hand! This will allow me to revive my Legendary Fiend!"

(Same as before)

Akiru raised an eyebrow. 'Why would he choose that monster over Thought Ruler Archfiend? Unless...' The Shadow continued. "Now, my placing one card from my hand on top of my deck, I can Summon Plaguespreader Zombie back from my Graveyard as well!"

(Same as before)

Akiru spoke up. "Don't forget that because you Summoned it through its own effect, next time it leaves the field, it's Banished instead of going to the Graveyard." The Shadow nodded. "I'm aware, but I can afford it. I tune Plaguespreader Zombie with my Legendary Fiend again, to Synchro Summon Blood Mefist!"

(Blood Mefist appeared: a level 8 Synchro monster with 2800 ATK)

Akiru's eyes widened. 'Shit! That card's effect makes it dangerous!' The Shadow then said, "I'll Set one card Face-Down, and end my turn, Hirasu." Akiru drew his card, then braced himself for what he knew was coming, as Blood Mefist laughed evilly while twirling its cane.

(Akiru: 3400)

The MC spoke up. "Wait! How did Akiru take damage?" The Shadow spoke up. "Because of Blood Mefist. During his Standby Phase, Akiru will take 300 Points of Damage for every card he has on the field." Akiru looked at his hand, and made a decision. "I'll Summon Tasuke Knight to the field!"

(Tasuke Knight appeared: a level 4 monster with 1700 ATK)

The Shadow looked the monsters over. 'Two level 4 monsters...' Akiru called out, "I Overlay level 4 Tasuke Knight and Shine Knight! With these two monsters, I Xyz Summon Starliege Paladynamo!"

(Starliege Paladynamo appeared: a Rank 4 Xyz monster with 2100 ATK)

The Shadow glanced at it. "I've heard of that card. One-of-a-kind, not to mention powerful." Akiru replied, "You'll experience it firsthand. I activate Starliege Paladynamo's effect! By using both Overlay Units, I can negate your Blood Mefist's effects, and drop its Attack Points to 0!" The Shadow spoke up. "My monster isn't losing anything! I activate the trap Dark Illusion! I can only activate this when a DARK monster I control is targeted by a card effect. That effect is negated and the card that activated it is destroyed!" Akiru was ready. "Think again! I activate Dark Bribe!" The Shadow's eyes widened under his mask. "That's what your other Face-Down was?!"

Akiru began to explain. "When my opponent uses a Spell or Trap Card, Dark Bribe negates that effect, and destroys the card!" As Dark Illusion was destroyed, Akiru continued. "As compensation for that, however, you're allowed to draw a card." The Shadow drew his card, glaring under his mask. Blood Mefist groaned as its effect was negated, and its Attack Points dropped.

(Blood Mefist's ATK: 0)

Akiru made his move. "Starliege Paladynamo, attack Blood Mefist!" The warrior lunged forward, slashing through Blood Mefist, as The Shadow cringed.

(The Shadow: 1900)

Akiru looked at the rest of his hand. "I'll set two new cards, and end my turn." The Shadow drew his card. "I'll activate an effect in my hand, of a monster of true rarity, a Dark Counterpart." Akiru's eyes narrowed. 'Which one is he talking about? The only ones I know of are Dark Armed Dragon, Dark Necrofear, The Dark Creator, and Rainbow Dark Dragon, and none of them have an effect that activates in the hand...' The Shadow looked at him. "So you've heard of the Dark Counterparts, then. They're among the rarest archtypes in the game. There were nine, but now there are eleven.

I activate the effect of Dark Nephthys. When I have three or more DARK monsters in my Graveyard, I can Banish two of them to discard Nephthys from my hand. I'll Banish Thought Ruler Archfiend and Mystic Tomato." After banishing them, he discarded Dark Nephthys, then faced Akiru. "With three DARK monsters in my Graveyard now, I can Summon from my hand a second Dark Counterpart, Dark Armed Dragon!"

(Dark Armed Dragon appeared: a level 7 monster with 2800 ATK)

"I could use its effect to destroy your Starliege Paladynamo, but I think I'd rather destroy it fair and square. Dark Armed Dragon, attack his Starliege Paladynamo!" Akiru pressed the button. "I activate my Trap, Magic Cylinder! This not only negates your attack, but deals you damage equal to your Dark Armed Dragon's Attack Points!" The Shadow stared in shock. "No!"

(The Shadow: 0)

(Akiru: WIN)

The Shadow got up as the holograms vanished, staring at Akiru. "I'll admit, that was a good Duel. I let my ego get the better of me." Turning to leave, he added, "I won't make that mistake next time." Akiru replied, "See you around." As The Shadow left, Akiru looked over at Apollo, who stood there, watching him with interest. 'Now that I'm done with The Shadow, I'm going to teach you a lesson about honor, Apollo.'

Wow. This update didn't take me nearly as long as the last one. Fun fact, I had to update the chapter after the prologue because for some reason, it used the wrong document. I've fixed it, so you should see the real chapter now.
