Jenna stares at an envelope and ticket, she looks up at her niece, "Are you sure you want it?"
"Yes Jenna, I am sure, I want this, I have made my mind."
"Fine then, if you have made your mind, then who am I to stop you, go pack your things, I'll drive you."
Elena goes upstairs and starts packing, she opens a suitcase starts putting her clothes into it. Before her parents died in the tragic car accident, they found this letter in her things, and the family night was organized to question her on hiding it nad to change her mind to eventually convince her to taking the opportunity.
A month before her parents died, she received a letter from one of the big schools, they read a short story she had published and they organized a story writing competition, which Elena eventually won. Her compassion was a gift but writing was her talent, she was selected for that school but she didn't want to leave her family. Her parents understood it and organized a family night so that every member of the family could convince her to go, but she chose the shortcut, she chose to skip family night, this was the reason her parents were on the Wikery bridge on the first place, they came to pick her up and then she lost them.
Later she wondered what would have happened had she accepted the letter, she would have left town shortly and her parents would be alive. She didn't leave still because her baby brother was on drugs coping up with the loss of his parents, Vicky made him come out of that loss and Damon made her into a vampire and killed her, Jeremy lost something again, but thanks to Damon's compulsion, Jeremy was back to normal, more than normal actually.
While Vicky was the one who helped Jeremy get over his parent's loss, Stefan made her come out of hers. But fate was so twisted that Stefan's brother turned out to be such an evil, he had to be put down. Taking Damon down was necessary but for that she had to betray Stefan and she did betray Stefan, and now that Stefan was gone too, her life sucked, going to school alone sucked because when she was alone she would hope that maybe Stefan would come out of one of the halls and that would bring smile to her face, but now that she had betrayed him every place that he was with her, reminds her of her betrayal, of her guilt.
She believes Damon should be dead and that Damon dying is the right thing, but betraying Stefan is what is killing her, she knows she cannot tell Stefan that she betrayed him like this but every place she goes, her school, her home, the cemetery, the grill, the gardens, the restaurants; every place just reminds her of him. So she made a decision, she made a decided to leave her home town and built a new life and never to look back.
She shuts the chain of her suitcase and calls Jenna, "Jenna I am done."
"Fine, I have cooked food for Jeremy and packed enough for your way to Dallas."
Elena shakes her head, she has this urge to say that she doesn't want to eat but resists the urge. She carries her suitcase down the stairs, Jeremy shows up, "Jer, what are you doing here?"
"What you really think I'll let you go without a parting gift." He gifts her a keychain, the initials of their names written on one side and a picture of their town on the other, "Just to remind you that we will be there with you forever." He smiles, places a kiss on her cheek and takes the suit case from her.
Jenna drops Elena to the airport, when Elena has deposited her suitcase in the baggage counter and is waiting in the line to get the boarding pass, Jenna questions her again, "Elena what will you do?"
Elena smiles and tells her, "When I reach Dallas, I will call you and inform you that I have reached safely, and then I will book a cab that will take me straight to the institution, after getting the paper work done and after getting my new room, I will inform you again."
"Good, and don't skip your meals."
"Okay, fine Jenna" Elena takes her boarding pass and leaves.
When the flight finally takes off, Elena smiles looking out of the window, "New life, here I come."
Caroline and Bonnie worriedly reach Elena's house, "Where is Elena?" Bonnie asks Jeremy.
"She left town" Jeremy answers playing his video game.
Caroline asks, "What do you mean she left town?"
"Oh you don't know" Jeremy questions, he pauses the game and tells them, "She had made plans since the day Stefan left town, today is her flight, Jenna left with her a few hours ago."
Care, "What plans and why didn't she tell us?"
Jeremy, "Probably because she thought that you all would try to stop her, that's why I think she made this decision alone."
Bonnie sits next to Jeremy on the couch and Caroline stands in front of him, Bonnie questions, "What decision Jeremy?"
"She was selected in a school that takes students in for their talents, they selected her for her writing skills, when Stefan left town, she planned she would leave too."
Caroline and Bonnie look at each other, they're both heartbroken, they were here to inform Elena about Damon's death being the news of town but turns out Elena was so busy in herself she didn't know what else was happening, else of course, she wouldn't have left.
Bonnie and Caroline walk out of her home,
Bon, "So, what do you say, what shall we do if Stefan finds out."
Caroline looks down, "Mm, what shall we do, we'd just stake him."
Bon, "Stefan doesn't deserve to die, he is the good brother remember"
Care, "Yes but if he goes the same way Damon did, then we kill him."
"Fine, then we'll kill him." They hold hands and walk away.
Both girls had no idea that they were being watched. Once both of them leave, Anna knocks on the door, without looking at who it is, Jeremy says, "Yes, come in."
Anna walks in and sits next to Jeremy on the couch, "Hey"
"Hi" Jeremy smiles at her, "Weird chick, stalking me to home huh."
Anna chuckles, "Hey, don't call that stalking, when you left the library you left with the book I issued."
"Well if I didn't take that book, you wouldn't have come to visit me then."
Anna chuckles, "Hey what are you playing?"
"You wanna play?"
"I haven't played this yet."
"Just try it."
Anna plays the video game with Jeremy, they pause the game when Jeremy can't hold his pee anymore. Anna utilizes this time to search his house for Jonathan Gilbert's journal. When she hears the bathroom door open, she puts everything in place with her super speed and speeds back to where she was sitting earlier. When Jenna arrives home Anna has already left.
Elena's plane lands in Dallas, she books a cab straight to her new boarding school. She looks at the huge building; it's much bigger than her Mystic Falls high school. When she has settled everything in her dormitory, the warden calls her, "Elena Gilbert, you have been summoned to the principal's office."
She wants to ask where the principal's office is but the warden has already left, she walks down the hall, thinking in her school, it was in the ground floor, so here, maybe somewhere, she looks at one of peons and asks him, "Excuse me, where is the principal's office, I have been summoned, but I am new, so I have no idea where it is."
The peon instructs her, "Ground floor" she smiles thinking at least she got this much right, then he continues, "The room next to the library." The peon leaves saying that.
"The library, but where's the library?" but the peon has already left. She goes to the ground floor, starts looking for the library, she sees the library, it's huge, bigger than any library she has seen in Mystic Falls, as a book nerd, she is tempted, she forgets that she has been summoned and walks in. It was like a spell, the books were calling to her and she was drawn to them.
She forgets that she had been summoned to the principal's office, she draws out one of the books from the library and reads it. Time passes and then she hears a British accent, "I really don't like such students, I thought I would tell her the rules all students are supposed to follow but it's been an hour and she didn't show up."
Elena parts her lips, she recalls she was the one summoned, she covers her face with the book, only eyes showing up, she stares at the back, 'It's a hot back' she thinks, she knows she is in trouble, but, she knows how to get out of it, covering her face with the book, she steps out of the library like a cat, without a sound.
She sees a tap, takes some water and pours it on her face to make it appear as sweat, then she enters the library huffing, "Excuse me" the librarian and the principal turns to her, "Can you tell me where the principal's office is, I was summoned about an hour ago, but I am new, I wasn't able to find it."
She looks at the person she assumes to be the principal, he was dressed elegantly in a suit, he had a perfect jawline, mesmerizing hazel brown eyes, lean yet muscular body. She mentally hits herself, 'Control girl, you can't be hitting at your principal.'
The librarian says, "The principal had summoned you because the trustee of the school wanted to meet you, now that you're here, no need to go to the principal's office, this is the our trustee cum director, Elijah Mikaelson."
"Trustee" Elena repeats and a smile spreads her lips, 'means I would not be hitting at the principal' she thinks.
"Yes, Mr Elijah, what did you want to discuss."
Elijah on the other hand is staring at Elena as if he saw a ghost, when he first saw her, he thought it was Katerina, but the smell of fresh human blood said the opposite, he had opened this school for gifted children because in some way or the other he wanted to atone for his sins, for his family's sins. And now that a new, human doppelganger has shown up, that too in the school, where he thought, only the good of the children who go there. He stood there staring at her, like he has seen a ghost, he stood there, like he wanted to get her killed and save her at the same time, he stood there staring at her.
"Sorry, what was your name, miss?"
"Elena" she says, "My name is Elena Gilbert."
Elijah smirks, he has made his decision, the elixir for the first part, and the compulsion for the next to make her forget something ever happened. "Hi" he forwards his hand, "I am Elijah"
Elena takes his hand and he feels warmth radiating from her, she is filled with compassion, with love for everyone around her.
"Elena, I asked the principal to summon you so that I could meet you, there are a few things I would like to discuss, walk with me."
