Hermine Granger pulled her suit jacket over her blouse. Her office was colder than expected. She was reading her news piece of legislation. While her first one had been a success, Kingsley had helped her push it through. She was determined to have this one passed by herself. She knew she would not want any help from any of her useless coworkers, she was still fuming from what had happened earlier that week at the staff meeting. They had been giving her nasty looks ever since. One more day, She reminded herself. Kingsley was making her take off for her midterms. She honestly couldn't wait. She did not look up from her document when Shayna walked over.
"Coffee, cream, no sugar"
"Thanks Shayna, I need this today"
"No problem, you looked like you needed it"
"Ron, Harry and Neville had to leave at like 3 am so I've been up ever since"
"Jeez, that sounds awful"
"You get used to it""
"Maybe you shouldn't be rereading this with no sleep. You could always work later"
"No, I have midterms so I'll be off for almost 3 weeks" Shanya rolled her eyes at her. Shayna had begun to pick up on her over-working tendencies. Diane, one of the other women, made her way over to Hermione's desk. Hermione hadn't liked her at all. She was as unHermione is every way possible. She was very happy to keep other sentient beings down while Hermione wanted to bring them up. Hermione kept her eyes firmly on the paper in front of her. Maybe if she looked busy, Diane would walk away.
"Miss Granger." Hermione did not look up from her paper.
"Miss Granger" Hermione gritted her teeth and looked up from her paper
"What? Could you please make it brief, I have a bill to finish"
"You may want to put that down. I just wanted to speak to you"
"What about?"
"Why are you so suspicious of me? I'm just trying to be polite"
"Well considering you've only ever spoken to me to tell me to not be so snappy, I think I have the right to be suspicious"
"Fine, Mr. Loman wanted to speak to you"she looked over Hermione's bushy hair and pants with a smirk. Hermione could guess what this meeting was about. She sighed and put her papers down. She would much rather continue working but that didn't seem like an option. She put her papers away and walked past Diane. She made sure to keep her head up high as she walked down the rows of cubicles. A couple of the men looked up as she walked past. She could definitely hear their snickers as she walked. She made her way down to the large oak door and opened it. Her boss, Mr. Loman, was sitting at his desk.
"Have a seat Miss. Granger" Hermione took a seat in front of the desk. She crossed her arms over her chest and tapped her foot impatiently. "I wanted to talk to you about your most recent piece of legislation."
"Which one?" Hermione asked, her tone clipped
"The one about house elf sick days"
" Has something happened to it?"
"No"
"Well, then I need to get back to work" She began to rise
"I wanted to speak to you about how you got it passed"
"I don't think I understand. It went to all of the different branches and passed"
"Only because you had the minister help you" Hermione's posture stiffened "you sidestepped me and the rest of your department in favor of your war friend"
"You said that we needed to use every tool at our disposal at our last meeting" Hermione reminded him
"That doesn't mean you can just choose to speak to your friends over us"
"I spoke to the Minister of Magic about a law that he supported. I don't like what you are implying about how I work. I spoke to the Minister as an civil servant not as a fellow soldier"
"A soldier," He chuckled
"I'm sorry?"
"You called yourself a soldier"
"Well, what word would you prefer? DA member? Order member"
"How about a teenage rebel?" Hermione's face darkened. "Potter seemed like a proper rebel rouser."
"We were fighting a war" Hermione growled
"Well didn't Potter start a rebel group you joined?"
"Harry, Ron and I started a underground defense against the dark arts class in order to defend ourselves" Mr. Loman took off his reading glasses and pinched his nose
"May I be frank Miss. Granger?"
"Sure"
"I did not get much of a choice when it came to hiring you. The minister and his new branch pushed heavily for your appointment. I understand that you aided Potter in the war and were seen as a hero but your performance is making you believe that you don't deserve to be here" Hermione felt rooted to her chair. Her heart pounded and she gritted her teeth. She could hear the blood rushing in her ears. She tried to steady herself.
"Excuse me?"
"You seem to be using your connections and your status to bully your way through this office." Hermione felt like she was going to explode. She tried to reign her emotions in.
"You also seem to over exaggerate your accomplishments and status to help you."
"Over exaggerate? I was nearly killed multiple times to stop a psychopathic magical want to be dictator and his followers. I gave everything to the war. More than you and your tiny sexist brain could ever understand."
"Sexist? You are calling me a sexist?"
"You think I was a glorified babysitter for the all-powerful men? You have no idea what I did. What I had to do. I fought so that no one would have to be kept down by Voldemort's ideology-" "Don't say his name" Lowman roars back
"And you and all the other pieces of shit in this office want to pass laws meant to keep beings tied down. I am the only person here who cares about change-"
"You have done nothing but bully-"
"Bully who? I've received nothing but insults and thinly veiled micro aggressions since I got here. All because you people are sexist racist pigs who seem to like to follow Voldemort's"
"Don't say his name you Mudblood" Hermione froze, stupefied. The blood running in her ears was replaced with ice. Mr. Lowman looked shocked at his own words
"Miss Granger I-" Hermione turned and curled her fists as she power walked out of the office. She held back tears.
"Look, it's the minister's pet" One of the guys snickered. Hermione turned her head to face them. A group of them were standing together with Diane. She was grinning at Hermione. Hermione scowled and walked on, not wanting to risk showing any weakness. It was only 11, two whole hours before she was supposed to leave. For once she didn't care. She stuffed her papers into her bag, along with her other supplies. She swung her backpack over her shoulder and stormed to the door of her office.
"Hey pet. Where are you going?" One of the men jeered. She kept walking. Another tried to stand in her way. She shoved past him. Shayna and the other secretaries looked over their desks. Shayna looked concerned but Hermione chose to keep walking away. She didn't stop until she got to the apparition point, spun in a spot and vanished
