Keep running…

The rain keeps beating down…

The mud is slippery…

Keep running…

You're falling behind…

You're falling…

You're not going to make it…

Flatline.

Shellington burst awake, trembling and panting heavily. He put a paw over his heart and whimpered. Unnerved by the dark of the lab, he got up, picked up his robe, and stumbled into the hallway. He felt dizzy.

"Shell, what's wrong?"

He looked up. Elekai was coming out of his quarters and approaching him.

"I…I've been having these horrible nightmares where I keep getting crushed by trees." He huddled into his robe.

Elekai had a look of understanding on his face. He brought Shellington into the kitchen, sat him down, and put a few fish biscuits in front of him.

"Alright," said Elekai as Shellington quietly nibbled on a fish biscuit, "we're underwater, and there's nothing but smooth ocean floor for miles. We're inside the Octopod, which is made of strong metal. There aren't any trees around to fall on you, and even if there were, they can't reach you inside the Octopod. You're completely safe in here."

Shellington just sat quietly, still a little shaky. After a few more minutes and a few more fish biscuits, he had calmed down. Elekai brought him back to the lab, and he curled up back in bed. Now with a full stomach and his nerves settled, he was able to sleep.

I seriously wonder what fish biscuits taste like.
