Chapter Two: Lucian Weather Makes No Sense

Somewhere in the crystalline realm, office…

Somnus Lucis Caelum, the representative of the continent of Lucis, looked around, seeing the representatives of Spring, Summer, and Fall. He, dressed in Lucian royal fashions, stood in front of a whiteboard, looking more like a business executive than a former king. Sitting in swivel chairs at the long table in front of him were the season's representatives.

Spring was represented by Ramuh's granddaughter, Ramuel, and she rapidly typed on one of the newest inventions, the cellular telephone. In front of her was also a box of tissues and her grandfather's staff. Somnus figured that something bad was going to happen as the little Astral came in, sneezing.

Summer was represented by, surprisingly, his brother Ardyn. His name did mean "burning", like flame, and apparently, he was given a second chance as an Astral, a kind of "Ifrit." Dressed in relaxed attire that consisted of a white dress shirt, khaki shorts, sunglasses, and sandals, he looked ready for summer vacation. He also had a smug look on his face, something that made Somnus nervous. Hoping that his brother would have mercy for the betrayal 2,000 years ago, though Somnus swore he had a good reason, the man prayed his brother wouldn't ruin his plans for Lucis.

Fall was represented by Aera Mirus Fleuret, Ardyn's former fiancée. She, looking more like a Garuda than before, had on Tenebraen fall fashions of a scarf, a light-colored sweater, and pants. And in her hands was a latte with the words "Tenebrae Pumpkin Spice Latte" on it. On the table in front of her were donuts, the Cleigne Apple Cinnamon kind, one of the Lucis Caelum family favorites. Ardyn attempted to snatch one, only to have his hand slapped by Aera.

"Don't touch! It's for the meeting," she said.

Somnus looked around, wondering where winter's representative was. Gentiana had gone back to Niflheim and she told him a new representative was to come soon. But the new year was coming in and he needed to know how the year would go, weather-wise. If he was lucky, Lucis would finally break the 2,000-year War on Heat and Humidity. But Ardyn was the rep for summer and Somnus was so sure that he would probably plunge the entire continent in a year-wide heat spell.

"Oh, hey!" Ramuel said.

Winter's representative was none other than Gilgamesh, his old friend. He looked to have been turned into a "Shivan", a male "Shiva". That was something that Somnus had heard happened in other realms, but…

The man didn't look too happy, muttering, "I'm supposed to be testing those who are to be the King's Shield…not determining the weather here in Lucis. Seriously, 2,000 years' worth of heat should've steeled them for summertime."

"Yes, but the continent needs more than just heat and humidity. So, starting this meeting, I am happy to say that my plan for the coming year's weather is to give them a break, free them from the curse of bad weather," Somnus said, scribbling on the whiteboard "Year 767, Lucis' weather".

"Okay, so…what will you need for Winter? Lucis is notorious for barely getting a bit of ice," Gilgamesh asked.

"And said ice with no snow accumulation causes widespread panic in Insomnia for 24-48 hours. Probably would've been better if the empire did such a thing," Ardyn said.

Somnus glared and Ardyn said, "You know it to be true, Somnus. Schools shut down, traffic goes to a standstill, bread costs 5,000 gil while milk goes up to 10,000 gil…Things that you wouldn't see in Niflheim."

The younger brother rolled his eyes and said, "They're not that bad."

"Oh yes, they are. The last time it happened before the Endless Night in the year 743, they rioted in the capital, fighting each other over toilet paper while that song 'Rules of Nature' blasted over the intercoms. Or so Gladiolus mentioned," Gilgamesh noted.

"And it was hilarious," Ardyn laughed.

"And how did you witness such things?" Somnus asked.

Ardyn kept silent and continued his smug expression, but Somnus knew he had something to do with that incident. But, after his descendant had broken the curse on all of them, he was sure that they were on the path of forgiveness and reconciliation. Maybe it was a dream deferred…

Remembering what they had to do, Somnus asked, "Gilgamesh, what can we book you for?"

He pointed to the whiteboard and the words were replaced with a calendar of the entire year. Gilgamesh looked at it and said, "You can put me down for 33 degrees Fahrenheit in Insomnia for the first two weeks in January. Then 35 for five random nights in February."

"That's it?" Somnus asked.

"Oh, and two more in April. Pretty sure that they'll survive. If not, then I worry for Lucis," Gilgamesh told him.

The dates were highlighted blue and Somnus looked to Ramuel. He loved springtime, though it was always fleeting in Lucis. Before he could say anything, Ramuel sneezed and the entire month of April was highlighted in orange, indicating high pollen.

"Oh, come on! Ramuel! High pollen again?" Somnus yelled.

"I'm sorry, Lord Somnus. It's gonna be really bad this year. Mr. Prompto's gonna have to stock up on anti-histamines…" Ramuel said, blowing her nose.

Somnus shook his head, asking, "Then can you add rain to wash it away?"

"Yup! Can do, Mister-Former-Majesty!" Ramuel said, pointing at the board.

May had several days of thunderstorms, three monsoons, two sandstorms, and five tornados, dotting the lands of Lucis. Ramuel looked horrified as Somnus yelled, "No! Just rain! Normal rain!"

Ardyn burst into laughter while Gilgamesh snickered and Ramuel sunk into her chair, wanting the floor to eat her. Aera stopped her, telling the little Astral, "Oh, you'll get the hang of it. Practice makes perfect."

The girl whimpered and Somnus said, "Okay…Ardyn. Please don't…"

"Oh! Well…I could give Noctis and the others a break…" Ardyn said, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Somnus prayed mercy would be given. Instead, Ardyn said, "Book me for the June, July, August, September, and the first two weeks of October."

Red was put on the dates he said, and several numbers popped up. Somnus' eyes widened as the temperatures were in the high 80s, 90s, and some 100s. He looked to his brother and said, "No, NO! Oh, come on, Brother! Not again!"

"Oh, and when is the young Majesty's fishing trip?" Ardyn asked.

"Don't," Somnus begged.

Ardyn laughed and the last week of August, Noctis' birthday week, had nothing but thunderstorms. It was barely suitable for fishing and Somnus hoped that his descendant would forgive him as he had tried to get his elder brother to cooperate. Putting a hand to his head and groaning, Somnus was so sure that Noctis was going to find him and "kill" him for bringing bad weather…again. Oh well, Somnus thought.

"Oh, it's my turn?" Aera asked.

"Yes…" Somnus said, not having any hope.

Aera smiled, passing out the donuts, and said, "Okay, so this year, book me for the rest of October and until the end of December. That should let everyone enjoy blitzball and Fall. And hopefully, the 'Tenebrae Tigers' will win the international tournament."

"I highly doubt it," Ardyn told her.

"Yeah, they kinda suck…" Ramuel added.

Aera looked dejected and Somnus looked over the dates. Everything looked fine and the temperature, minus the ones for Summer. Hopefully, Lunafreya wouldn't carry during those months, but…

"The only modifications would be some of the temperatures. But overall, this seems fine for a year in Lucis. Thank you, everyone," Somnus said, dismissing the meeting.

Everyone filed out and Ardyn was the last to leave. He looked over the calendar and changed the temperatures for October, eliminating the dates Aera had. He then changed the temperatures to 85 and above. Grinning, he said, "Beautiful! Lunafreya's going to curse these dates. Next year's going to be miserable!"

Noctis woke up, after having such a strange dream. He looked to Lunafreya, who was sound asleep, and then to the window. The King shook his head, muttering, "Just a dream. Pretty sure Ardyn's gone…"

"Well, not really…Next year's weather will be terrible."

Noct fell back onto his pillow, grumbling as he recognized the voice of the Founder King. Apparently, it wasn't after all…

And that's why Lucis' weather sucks! Ardyn getting back at his brother with terrible summers. Review?
