Chapter 3

Jasmin awoke but didn't open her eyes, she could see the daylight through her eyelids, the Dursleys must have finally done it, they had broken her. She had had the weirdest dream but she should have known it was too good to be true. Being locked in her cupboard with almost no human interaction had broken her so she had started to hallucinate. Like she had gotten mail or been allowed to take Dudley's second bedroom, what should have told her it was just a dream should have been the Giant that had come in, bullied the Dursleys, and cared about her.

Tap Tap Tap

There was Aunt Petunia knocking at her cupboard door. Something was strange, the tap sounded almost like glass, also there was a strange smell. She opened her eyes

Jasmin was definitely not in her cupboard, she looked towards the sofa, the giant of a man... Hagrid was his name was there, he was real.

Tap Tap Tap

Jasmin looked towards the window, there was an owl taping with its clawed foot, it had a newspaper in its beak. Jasmin quickly moved the coat of her, and moved to the window and open it. It was real! It was real! The happiness she felt bobbled up to the surface and her face split into a big grin.

Her grin faded after the owl had dropped the paper on Hagrid and processed to attack his coat!

"Wait stop!" Jasmin tried to save the coat from the angry bird but it just snapped its beak at her.

"Hagrid! There is an owl!"

"Pay him." Hagrid grunted tiredly from the sofa

"Huh?"

"He wants payin' fer deliverin' the paper. Look in the pockets."

This was all well and good except, Hagrid's coat apparently was made out of pockets, she looked in the pockets, there was everything from keys, balls of string, to teabags.

After looking in approximately 19 pockets she found a bag of coins, they were strange-looking, they were currently not pounds and pennies.

"Give him five Knuts" Hagrid said and yawned.

"err.."

"The little bronze ones."

"Right" Jasmin put 5 small coins in a small bag on the owl's leg and it flew off.

That is one way of getting your post Jasmin thought to herself.

"Best be of, lots ter do today."

Jasmin realized that everything might not be okay, she had never had an allowance the time she got money from mowing a neighbor's lawn Uncle Vernon had taken it from her "Rent" he had called it.

"Um, Hagrid, I don't have any money, my aunt and uncle will never help me out to get to Hogwarts. "

"Don't worry about that," said Hagrid, standing up and scratching his head. "D'yeh think yer parents didn't leave yeh anything?"

"You mean.. I have an inheritance?"

"Yeh, it is at Gringotts Wizard bank, ter be out first stop."

There were some sausages left, they were cold but did still taste great, they also took a piece each of her birthday cake, it was her very first birthday cake and it was amazing. She could really get used to people remembering and caring about her birthday!

Hagrid explained that even if their home had been destroyed the money had parents had was at Gringotts Bank, Hagrid said that someone would have to be crazy to even attempt to rob it. It had come as a chock to Jasmin that goblins existed.

When they were done they vent out and took the boat her uncle had rented, after a promise not to tell anyone Hagrid tapped his umbrella, and with that, the boat had sped off by itself. Jasmin was happy just to see more magic.

On the ride Hagrid pulled out the newspaper the owl had delivered, knowing how much Vernon hated to be disturbed Jasmin while reading the newspaper she chose to be quiet and not disturb Hagrid.

"Yeh gone all quiet, no more questions?" Hagrid asked after a while.

"No, I mean yes. I just didn't want to disturb you while you were reading."

"I don't mind" then he sighed "Ministry o' Magic messin' things up as usual"

"Wait? There's a Ministry of Magic?" Jasmin asked

Hagrid told her what the ministry did, how they kept witches and wizards secret from Muggles and made sure people did not misuse magic. He told of Cornelius Fudge, not very impressed with the man.

Apparently wasn't Jasmin the only one who was awed or scared of Hagrid's size, people were staring as they were walking to town to get a train to London. Jasmin asked more about the magical world and they came to the subject of dragons, they were real according to Hagrid, and he had always wanted one. Jasmin could not really blame him, in the few storybooks Jasmin had been able to read in school, dragons had always been very cool but also very scary and dangerous.

On the train Jasmin opened her letter to read the shopping list, she needed quite a few things, it was, of course, the regular as books but then things got a bit more strange, she needed robes, quill, ink and a cauldron to name a few, the most exciting one had to be the magic wand.

"Can we buy all this in London?" Jasmin asked. She had never been in to London but she had a hard time seeing a store selling this kind of things.

"If yeh know where to go," said Hagrid.

He took her to a pub, 'The Leaky Cauldron' it didn't look like much but something stuck out as rather strange to Jasmin, the people moving around didn't even seem to notice that the building existed.

They walked in, it was supposedly a famous place but it looked very dark and shabby to Jasmin, the people inside must be wizards as they were wearing the odd clothes, like colourful robes & strange hats.

"Hagrid!" The toothless bald bartender yelled as they got in, many of the patrons waved to Hagrid in greeting "The usual?"

"Can't, Tom, I'm on Hogwarts business," said Hagrid, clapping his great hand on Jasmin's shoulder and making Jasmin's knees buckle.

The bartender peered at Jasmin and exclaimed "Good Lord! is this? Can it be?"

Jasmin looked around nervously as the whole place had gone silent.

"Bless my soul," whispered the old bartender, "Jasmin Potter… what an honor."

Jasmin froze up as the man came up to her and shook her and, he seemed to have tears in his eyes. Jasmin did not know what to do or say, to her horror the suddenly was a great rustling of chairs and people came up to her.

Hagrid saw how uncomfortable she was, and quickly pushed her out. "Must get on, lots ter buy. You can say hello to her another time."

They came into a small walled courtyard, it looked empty except a trash can and some weeds. Hagrid looked down at Jasmin with worry in his eyes.

"Are yeh okay?"

"I am fine" Jasmin answered in a very small voice.

"Yeh got a bit overwhelmed, notin' to be ashamed of!"

"Miss P.P Potter" came a stammering voice. A scared-looking man in purple robes came into the courtyard.

"Oh Professor Quirrel, Jasmin this is one of the teachers you will have at Hogwarts"

"Hi Professor" Jasmin said trying to sound less shy. "What subject do you teach?"

"D-Defense Against the D-D-Dark Arts." Stammered Quirrel

Jasmin was a bit surprised by this. Quirrel was young but looked very twitchy like he was more nervous than even she was, and he was supposed to be the one who would teach them how to defend themselves against dark arts.

"N-not that you n-need it, eh, P-P-Potter?" the professor joked and Jasmin gave him a polite smile.

"We better be off, see yeh at Hogwarts Professor," Hagrid said and started to tap the wall with his umbrella

"It was nice meeting you sir." Jasmin said

"P-p-pleasure is all mine Miss P-P-Potter"

Jasmin heard a rumbling behind her and turned around to see an archway being formed from the wall and on the other side, there was a street. She followed Hagrid out and the archway shrunk back into a wall. "Woah!" she exclaimed.

"Welcome," said Hagrid, "to Diagon Alley." He beamed at her look of shock and awe.

It was a nice sunny day that lit up Diagon Alley, Jasmin tried to look everywhere at once. She saw a cauldron shop, a shop full of owls, and an apothecary that sold dragon liver?

She saw a bunch of kids pressed to a window, she tried to look at what they were looking at.

It was a broom, but it did not look like an ordinary broom for cleaning.

Well, I guess they would not be that interested in cleaning supplies she thought to herself.

The first stop was to Gringotts, the Wizard Bank, run by goblins. This became a bit of a challenge for Jasmin, she had a hard time not staring at the goblins but knowing how rude it was she did her best to scold herself not to stare.

They came to an empty counter. Hagrid told the goblin that she wanted to make a withdrawal and that he had a letter from Dumbledore. Jasmin tried to ask about it but Hagrid was very secret about it.

A goblin named Griphook took them out a door and to a narrow stone passageway and into a small cart. Torches were burning so it was not dark but the railway looked steep, Jasmin had never been on anything like it before, she had heard of roller coasters but was not sure if she would like them.

Suddenly the cart started moving at very high speed, Griphook did not look like he was steering and they vent down a maze of twits. To her surprise Jasmin found the ride very enjoyable she was about to say that to Hagrid but then she saw his face, he almost looked green. She looked down a corridor and thought she saw a yet of fire. Was that a dragon!? she thought excitedly.

The cart made a stop at a big door, Grimphook climbed out of the cart and unlocked the door, there was some green smoke coming out but it soon cleared and there it was, a room full of coins. It had to be a small fortune.

"Hagrid! Is this my parent's money?"

"All yours" Hagrid answered her.

Jasmin has never had an allowance or been allowed to have any money and suddenly she had, well she didn't really know how much. She made a mental note to never tell her Aunt or Uncle about this, they might hate everything magic but gold would most likely be enough to change their mind a little.

Hagrid helped Jasmin fill a bag with coins and told her roughly how much she would need.

After this, it was time to go to the secret vault, Hagrid asked for them to go slower but Griphook told him that it wasn't possible. When they came to the vault after another thrilling ride Griphook once again walked up to the vault to unlock it but this time he didn't use a key.

Jasmin tried to look around Hagrid to see what this secret thing was but she only got a glimpse of an envelope that disappeared down Hagrid's pocket, the rest of the room looked empty. The curiosity burned in Jasmin but she had a feeling she wouldn't get any answer.

The Cart ride back to the surface was fun but not as fun as going downwards, Hagrid did not look like he had enjoyed the trip one bit.

"Might as well get yer uniform" and pointed to Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. "Would you mind terribly if I slipped off fer a pick-me-up in the Leaky Cauldron? I hate them Gringotts carts"

"No no Hagrid! I can get my robes and meet up with you later." Jasmin said and smiled at Hagrid, as soon as his back was turned her smile slipped away, she didn't really want to do this alone. When she entered the shop, a squat witch in brownish purple robes greeted her, this apparently was Madam Malkin herself.

After Jasmin confirmed that she was looking for a Hogwarts uniform she was ushed to the back of the store. "Yes yes, I got the lot here. Another new student is being fitted just now in fact." Indeed it was, a boy in her age, a blond, pale with a pointed face stood on a footstool while a witch was pinned his long black robes.

When she got to a footstool next to him he greeted her.

"Hello, Hogwarts too?"

"Hi, yes." She replied.

"My father's next door buying my books and mother's up the street looking at wands. Then I'm going to drag them off to look at racing brooms. I don't see why first years can't have their own. I think I'll bully father into getting me one and I'll smuggle it in somehow." The boy said in a drawling bored voice. Jasmin did not get the best impression of this boy, she sounded spoiled, like a more refined Dudley.

Before she could think of something to reply the boy asked "Have you got your own broom?"

"No" she answered

"Play Quidditch at all?"

"I haven't" She felt a bit stupid not really understanding, what was Quidditch?

"I do. Father says it's a crime if I'm not picked to play for my house, and I must say, I agree. Know what house you'll be in yet?"

"No" Jasmin needed something she could answer with anything other then 'no'

"Well, no one really knows until they get there, do they, but I know I'll be in Slytherin, all our family have been... imagine being in Hufflepuff, I think I'd leave, wouldn't you?"

"Yea.." Jasmin replied at least she didn't say no.

"I say look at that man!" Jasmin looked where he pointed and saw Hagrid. Holding two ice creams.

Finally, something she knew. "That is Hagrid, he works at Hogwarts."

"Oh, I have heard of him, he is some kind of servant isn't he?"

"He is the gamekeeper." Jasmin was sure her first instincts were right, she did not like this boy.

"Yes, exactly. I heard he's a sort of savage, lives in a hut on the school grounds and every now and then he gets drunk, tries to do magic, and ends up setting fire to his bed."

"I think he is great" Jasmin told the boy and couldn't help to keep some of her annoyance in her voice.

The boy sneered. "Do you? Why is he with you anyways? Where are your parents?"

"They.. they are dead."

"Oh, sorry." Jasmin did not think for a second he meant it. "But they were our kind weren't they"

"My mom was a witch and my father was a wizard if that is what you mean."

"I really don't think they should let the other sort in, do you? They're just not the same, they've never been brought up to know our ways. Some of them have never even heard of Hogwarts until they get the letter, imagine. I think they should keep it in the old wizarding families. What's your surname, anyway?"

Thankfully Jasmin was saved from this when Madam Malkin told her that she was all done. Jasmin didn't let the excuse go to waste and jumped off the stool and said bye. This had put Jasmin in a bad mood as she ate her ice cream with Hagrid.

"What's up?" Hagrid asked after a long silence.

"I just met this boy, he didn't think people from Muggle families should attend."

"Yer not from a Muggle family, if he's known who you were he's grown up knowing yer name if his from a wizarding family, you saw the reaction at the Leaky Cauldron"

Jasmin swallowed at the memory of all those people staring and coming toward her.

"Not that it matters" Hagrid continued "Yer mom was from a Muggle family, just look at what she had as a sister. Mighty fine witch yer mother was."

"Thank you Hagrid," Jasmin said and smiled at Hagrid. "He also said something about Slytherin and Hufflepuff"

"They are school houses. There's four. Everyone says Hufflepuff are a lot o' duffers, but that is just ruddy nonsense. They are a hardworking and loyal bunch."

"So there is nothing wrong with becoming a Hufflepuff?"

"None. I rather be a Hufflepuff than Slytherin any day. There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin. You-Know-Who was one."

"He vent to Hogwarts?"

"Years an' years ago," said Hagrid.

Jasmin and Hagrid continued with the rest of the shopping, first to a bookstore called Flourish and Blotts, the books were stacked all the way to the ceiling, there were more books than Jasmin had ever had seen. After she found all her School books she looked around for other interesting books, she found a lot of books with hexes but was told by Hagrid that they were a bit advanced for her to get now.

They later vent and got other things she needed as a cauldron, scales, telescope, and potion ingredients, the last was bought from the apothecary, a really amazing store if it wasn't for the foul smell.

"Just yer wand left. A yeah, an' I still haven't got yeh a birthday present."

"A what? but Hagrid you brought me a cake."

Hagrid smiled down on her and put a giant hand on her shoulder, her knees almost buckled.

"Don' expect you've had a lotta presents from them Dursleys. Tell yeh what, I'll get yer animal. Not a toad, toads went outta fashion years ago, yeh'd be laughed at, an' I don' like cats, they make me sneeze. I'll get yer an owl. All the kids want owls, they're dead useful, carry yer mail an' everythin'."

Jasmin was speechless, she was going to get an owl, she would be responsible for a pet, nobody had ever trusted her with as much as a potted plant, well Aunt Petunia had forced her to do work in the garden and cooking but also vent on how unreliable she was.

Twenty minutes later, they left Eeylops Owl Emporium, which had been dark and full of rustling and flickering, jewel-bright eyes. Jasmin now carried a large cage that held a beautiful snowy owl, fast asleep with her head under her wing.

"Hagrid, she is beautiful, I don't know how I can ever thank you enough."

"Don' mention it. Yeh just take good care of her alright? Just Ollivanders left now, only place fer wands, Ollivanders, and yeh gotta have the best wand."

A magic wand, that was so exciting. They soon arrived at a narrow and shabby store, the letters on the door had been gold but were now peeling 'Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C'

Jasmin vent into the store and a bell rang. It was small but the shelves were filled with narrow boxes, Jasmin could feel her neck hair rising, was it all the magic from the wands, or was she just a bit nervous, before she could make up her mind a sudden voice made her jump.

"Good Afternoon." The voice came from an old man, he had shiny pale eyes. He did look a bit scary.

"Hello" Jasmin replied a bit quietly

"Ah yes, yes, yes. I thought I'd be seeing you soon. Jasmin Potter. Green eyes just like your mother's, It seems only yesterday she was in here herself, buying her first wand. Ten and a quarter inches long, swishy, made of willow. Nice wand for charm work"

The man came closer to Jasmin, he didn't seem to blink.

"Your father, on the other hand, favored a mahogany wand. Eleven inches. Pliable. A little more power and excellent for transfiguration. Well, I say your father favored it, it's really the wand that chooses the wizard, of course."

The man had come even closer, she could feel his breath, he looked at her forehead. "And that's where…" he touched her scar and Jasmin let out an involuntary gasp and took a step back.

"I'm sorry to say I sold the wand that did it," he said softly. "Thirteen-and-a-half inches. Yew. Powerful wand, very powerful, and in the wrong hands… well, if I'd known what that wand was going out into the world to do…"

The man shook his head and looked behind Jasmin and saw Hagrid, Jasmin tried to compose herself while the man had his eyes on the giant.

"Rubeus! Rubeus Hagrid! How nice to see you again… Oak, sixteen inches, rather bendy, wasn't it?"

"It was, sir, yes," said Hagrid.

They talked a bit about Hagrid's wand and how it had been snapped when Hagrid got expelled, Jasmin noted how Hagrid was fiddling with his pink umbrella while speaking to the man, she had a suspicion about where Hagrid's old wand was.

"Well now Miss Potter, let me see... what is your wand hand?"

"Ehm, I am right-handed"

"Hold out your arm," the man said and Jasmin did as she was told. She was measured from shoulder to finger, wrist to elbow, knee to armpit, and all over, she soon saw that the tape measure was measuring by itself.

"Every Ollivander wand has a core of a powerful magical substance, Miss Potter. We use unicorn hairs, phoenix tail feathers, and the heartstrings of dragons. No two Ollivander wands are the same, just as no two unicorns, dragons, or phoenixes are quite the same. And of course, you will never get such good results with another wizard's wand."

Then began the testing, the man Ollivander gave her different wands explaining the length, wood, and core and almost instantly took them from her. It took many tries and Mr Ollivander looked more and more excited the more they tried.

After a while he stopped in his track and muttered to himself "I wonder, now, yes, why not, unusual combination, holly and phoenix feather, eleven inches, nice and supple."

He held up the wand and Jasmin took it and suddenly felt a warmth like she suddenly attached a long-missing body part. She raised the wand and red and gold sparkles shot from the wand to both Ollivander's and Hagrid's excitement.

"Oh Bravo, Yes, indeed, oh, very good. Well, well, well… how curious… how very curious…" Mr Ollivander said.

"Mr Ollivander? What is curious?" Jasmin asked

"I remember every wand I've ever sold, Miss. Potter. Every single wand. It so happens that the phoenix whose tail feather is in your wand, gave another feather, just one other. It is very curious indeed that you should be destined for this wand when its brother, why, its brother gave you that scar."

Jasmin gasped

"Yes, thirteen-and-a-half inches. Yew. Curious indeed how these things happen. The wand chooses the wizard, remember… I think we must expect great things from you, Miss Potter… After all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things — terrible, yes, but great."

Jasmin felt a bit shaken by this, the wand she was destined for was the brother of the wand that have murdered her parents, what did this say about her destiny? She was to preoccupied by this that she didn't really realize that Hagrid was taking her out of Diagon Alley to Muggle London, or how people stared at them as they walked.

Hagrid took her to a Hamburger joint and they ate a late dinner. This had been the best birthday she could remember but it had also been odd and a bit scary. She was famous and people were staring wanting to talk to and touch her, it seemed they expected to allot out of her, a girl that just a couple of weeks back were sleeping in a cupboard under the stair and not allowed to go out.

"Hagrid? Everyone thinks I am special. All those people in the Leaky Cauldron, Professor Quirrell, Mr. Ollivander. I don't know the first thing about magic, I am famous for something I can't remember.. can they really expect all this of... me?"

Hagrid leaned across the table. Behind the wild beard and eyebrows, he wore a very kind smile

"Don' you worry, Jasmin. You'll learn fast enough. Everyone starts at the beginning at Hogwarts, you'll be just fine. Just be yerself. I know it's hard. Yeh've been singled out, an' that's always hard. But yeh'll have a great time at Hogwarts , I did , still do, 'smatter of fact."

Jasmin was soon on a train on her way back home, she had an envelope with the train tickets to warts. September first could not come soon enough.

A/N

Another Sunday another chapter. I thought the train ride to Hogwarts would be included in this one but limited time. hope this is enjoyable even if it isn't a lot super original.

I got a question about pairing when it comes to Jasmin. I am still trying to plot out everything as my ideas came after rereading the books. Some things would have to change if there is going be any love triangles and complications like Cho and Cedric, we will see. There might be a small crush a few chapters in ;).
There will be no Draco, or Snape shipping.
