If you recognise it I don't own it
Lily and Scorpius ended up watching two movies together, the first Iron Man and the first Captain America. Lily cuddled up with Scorpius the whole time. After each movie, they discussed what they thought. Scorpius wasn't nearly as dumbstruck as he was yesterday after watching Thor, so they were actually able to have a proper conversation about the movies.
All too soon Lily's watch was buzzing from the alarm she set, letting her know it was 4:15. This time she walked Scorpius to the door to say goodbye to him.
"I've had the best day today Scorpius," Lily said, staring into his sparkling silver eyes.
Scorpius brought his hand up to her cheek. She closed her eyes and leaned into his touch.
"So have I."
Lily felt his hand move slightly as he leaned closer. She felt his lips on hers again. This kiss was different to the one they shared this morning. Their kiss before had been more intense, the result of built up nerves and sexual tension between them. This one was sweet, gentle.
"Will you be here on Thursday?" Lily asked him, after they broke apart.
Scorpius smiled at her gently, then kissed the top of her head. "I sure will be."
Then his hand slid off her face, he walked out the door and disapperated.
The next month was the happiest of Lily's life. Scorpius continued to come over every single day that he could. They made their way through the MCU movies together. Scorpius particularly liked the movies with the best special effects, like Dr Strange, or movies with concepts different to anything he had seen before, like Guardians of the Galaxy.
Eventually they ran out of MCU films or shows to watch, so they began to just hang out instead. Sometimes Scorpius would apparate them to London and they would wander around and find somewhere nice to have lunch. Sometimes they would play quidditch together in Lily's backyard. Other times they would go up to Lily's room and cuddle on her bed and just talk the day away.
Scorpius told her about how he had been raised not to hate muggles or muggle borns like his parents had been raised, but that sometimes it was necessary to hide those opinions. Not because his parents only cared about appearances, but because they were wily enough to take advantage of the Malfoy stereotype if it were to gain them leverage or close on a business deal. He told her how he had been raised not to be emotionless, but to keep his emotions off his face and out of his voice when talking to people so that they would have a harder time manipulating him.
This, he said, came in very helpful when around his extended family, like his grandparents or his cousin Abigail.
Lily told him how she had what she believed to be the most wonderful family in the world, but how only her brother James seemed to see her as 15 years old not 5. She told him how Hugo was her favourite cousin, and one of her best friends. She told him all about how she'd been raised with the best of both the muggle world and the wizarding world, which was how she even knew what movies were in the first place.
They talked about the pressures they both felt from society and their families. Scorpius was expected to take over the Malfoy business, as his father had before him. Really, he wanted to be a journalist. Lily wasn't sure what she wanted to do, but whatever it was she was expected to be amazing at it. She already felt like somewhat of a let down because her worst subject was DADA, and that had been her father's specialty.
The happy little bubble the two of them had lived in for a month was rapidly approaching its end, as Albus's internship was set to finish on Friday. Today was Thursday. There were still two weeks left until September 1st, when they would hopefully be able to sneak around together at school. So now, here they were, curled up together on the couch, trying to come up with a plan to keep seeing each other.
"We could still go out to muggle London some days," Lily suggested.
"We could. I wouldn't be able to come and get you though. You could Floo to Diagon Alley though," Scorpius replied thoughtfully.
"We can't meet up there though. Everybody knows who we are. There's bound to be someone who takes a picture and sends it to some gossip column. That would be front page news. A Malfoy dating a Potter. The scandal." Lily grinned cheekily up at him.
Scorpius looked down at her, a suddenly devilish look on his face.
"Oh yes, what a scandal. The beautiful Baby Potter has seduced the helpless young Malfoy. How could she?"
Lily's giggles were cut off as he kissed her. As always, his kisses made her forget anything she was thinking of before. How had she been so lucky?
When they broke apart, Lily looked mischievously into his eyes. "It's definitely you who seduced me. The Slytherin Prince, preying on the poor youngest Potter."
Scorpius grinned slyly back at her. "I had no choice. You were the one who invited me here. I simply couldn't help myself."
He kissed her again, more intensely this time. He vexed her in the best of ways.
"You're such a Slytherin," Lily told him after he pulled away from her.
"Thank you very much."
Lily laughed and swatted him gently on the arm. "I could Floo to the Leaky Cauldron and meet you a few streets away."
"That could work. Send Loki to me with a letter of when you can come. I know you've got a lot planned next week." Scorpius was right. Lily had a family gathering with her entire extended family coming up over the weekend, and then during the week she was going out with Scarlette, another day where she was seeing Lorcan and Lysander, and another day where her, Hugo, Scarlette, Lorcan and Lysander were all going to Diagon Alley to get their school books for the upcoming year.
"I don't think I have anything planned on Tuesday. Can you make 9:30 then?"
Scorpius paused for a few seconds, clearly mentally going through his calendar. "That should work."
"Great," Lily replied and kissed him on the nose. Scorpius smiled at her.
"What about when we get back to school? I've been thinking about using the Room of Requirement, but it was supposedly destroyed during the Battle of Hogwarts," he said.
"Well," Lily started, a grin slipping onto her face. "I have an idea that might work. You and Rose are going to be Head Boy and Girl this year, right?"
Scorpius nodded. Their Hogwarts letters had arrived last week. Rose, to nobody's surprise, had been made Head Girl. Albus had been furious that he hadn't received the Head Boy badge. Lily had been pleased and slightly apprehensive when she had received a Prefect badge in hers.
"Well you can make it so that the heads are paired up for patrols together. Rose will go nuts, because she hates you."
Scorpius snorted at her observation.
"She'll demand that she be allowed to continue patrols with Albus, you'll say no because you don't want to patrol with Flint anymore, but if she can come up with someone who you agree with, they can take her place," Lily continued.
As she spoke, the smirk on Scorpius's face had grown wider and wider.
"And let me guess who comes in to selflessly sacrifice herself for her cousin. Merlin's pants, Baby Potter. You really should have been in Slytherin."
Usually, Lily would protest such a claim, but to do so now, after she had just told him of her plan to manipulate her cousin in such a way, would very much not help her case. Instead she just grinned slyly up at him.
"So you think it'll work?" She asked.
"I do. You're a lot more Slytherin than you realise, Lils."
The weekend came and went. Lily attended the gathering with her family. Such days were always lots of fun. There were quidditch tournaments, music, laughter and seemingly endless amounts of food. Her grandparents always insisted on hosting, and every adult or adult couple was expected to bring a meal along. Her family was simply too big to feed otherwise.
On Monday she went out with Scarlette. The two of them went to Diagon Alley for some ice-cream and then went back to Scarlette's house for a few hours.
On Tuesday she floo'd to the Leaky Cauldron under the guise of seeing Scarlette again. Three streets over, in the muggle part of London, she met up with Scorpius. They wandered around London for a while, chatting about anything and everything, then found a cute little Italian place where they had lunch. After lunch, they caught muggle transportation to the London Eye.
Lily and Scorpius hopped onto a carriage and sat across from one another. Scorpius wordlessly confounded the muggle working there so that they could get their own carriage. When they were about halfway up, Scorpius's demeanour changed. He began to fidget and conversation between them lulled. Lily asked him if he was ok.
"Surely the quidditch superstar isn't scared of heights," she teased.
He chuckled. "No, definitely not. It's just that, well, Lily, I haven't asked you, not properly, but," he paused, before seemingly composing himself.
"Do you want to make this official? I really like you and you and I just work. What do you think?"
Lily, who had been frowning in confusion, felt an enormous smile splash across her face of its own accord. She took his hand in hers.
"Are you asking me to be your girlfriend?"
"I am," Scorpius replied softly.
Lily looked into his eyes. They looked like liquid silver.
"I would love to."
Scorpius smiled back at her, happiness radiating from him. She leaned over and kissed him. Their carriage swung to a stop, the movement jolting them apart. They both laughed.
"I know we've been going on dates for a month now, but I wanted to ask you in a special way."
Lily caressed his face. He was so sweet. How had she gotten so lucky?
"This is definitely special. Anywhere with you is special."
Scorpius chuckled at her cheesy line. The carriage began moving again, and together they watched the city of London below them.
Scorpius
Scorpius stood inside a carriage on the Hogwarts express that was currently occupied by Diego, Abigail, Flint, Smith, Goyle and Mia Bulstrode. They were all admiring his shiny new head boy badge. No one admired it more so than Flint, who decided it was appropriate to stroke it herself, carelessly letting her hand stroke his chest too. She was looking up at him through her lashes.
Scorpius puffed his chest out to appear proud. It also meant Flint couldn't stand so close to his face.
"So if Weaslette is the head girl," he was saying, "I have a few nice surprises for her this year. Her pathetic little cousin isn't going to have such a good year either. He's going to be furious when he sees that even McGonagall knows I'm a better fit for the role."
The other Slytherins all laughed appreciatively, as he knew they would. Eager to escape Flint, who had been attached to him the entire 15 minutes since she'd entered the carriage, Scorpius excused himself to prepare for the heads meeting. As he left, his eyes happened to land on Flint. She had a calculating look on her face. Scorpius resisted the urge to roll his eyes. He had a feeling he knew exactly what she was thinking about.
Eager to get on Weaslette's nerves, Scorpius swaggered into the front carriage. He knew she'd already be there. If she was 10 minutes early she'd think she was late.
He pushed open the door and dramatically sauntered into the carriage. There she was, bent over many pieces of parchment she'd sprawled over the table. The carriage was empty apart from her.
"Morning Weaslette," he said in a jaunty, chipper tone.
She looked up, her face going bright red almost instantly.
"Malfoy," she ground out, clearly furious, "I should've known."
"Why look at this, Weaslette. We're agreeing on something. You've clearly gotten smarter over the holidays." Scorpius flopped down next to her with exaggerated ease.
Weaslette stiffened as he sat next to her, although he wasn't nearly close enough to touch her. The thought made him slightly queasy.
"What are you looking at there, partner?"
Scorpius could practically hear her gnashing her teeth together. He smirked. Merlin, this was fun.
Scorpius watched as she took what was clearly a calming breath, then slowly turned towards him. He watched her, trying to decide whether her face or her hair was redder.
"Rosters," she ground out, "for patrols. I want to have them ready to go before the meeting starts."
"An excellent idea, partner. May I see them?"
Scorpius watched as her fists clenched. He knew she wanted to hit or hex him, but he also knew that being Head Girl was way too important to her to do such a thing. Normally he'd never have been able to push her this far without her attempting to hurt him. She wasn't even fighting back verbally. Scorpius could never remember having so much fun with riling her up.
Slowly, Weaslette passed the parchment over to him. A quick scan told him exactly what he wanted to know. She'd kept herself with Albus and him with Flint. Perfect.
Scorpius checked the time. They only had about 10 minutes before the prefects meeting started, which meant the prefects would all be trickling in very soon. He heard Weaslette sigh dramatically and turned to her.
"Look Malfoy," she began. Scorpius noticed her face, which had begun to go back to normal, now flared red again. "I know we aren't who each other would've chosen as who we'd work with, but we're stuck like this. It would be in both of our best interests to put on a united front. So if you just let me do the talking during this meeting then I'll sort everything and we can leave. Deal?"
Scorpius had absolutely no intention of letting her take over everything, but just at that moment the prefects began to walk in and he was saved from replying.
He and Weaslette sat in silence as the prefects came in and seated themselves. When Lily walked in with her prefect family members Scorpius had to try very hard not to look at her. If he did, he was afraid his perfectly crafted blank expression would crack.
Eventually everyone was seated and he and Weaslette stood up and introduced themselves. Weaslette started on a welcoming speech Scorpius expected she'd been rehearsing for years. She droned on about what a responsibility it was and how they must conduct themselves with the utmost honour and dignity at all times.
Scorpius yawned. He turned his head as he heard stifled giggles, only to see Flint looking at him in adoration. Scorpius stopped himself from rolling his eyes. For once, he hadn't even meant it as a jab. Weaslette's speech was just that boring.
Eventually, Weaslette's speech ended. Then she began passing around the rosters she'd written up already.
"So for those of you new this year," she said, with a nod towards the fifth years, "we do our rounds with our house partner. So for example, I'm with Albus as he's -"
"Not anymore, Weaslette," Scorpius interrupted. She turned to look at him, fury in her eyes.
"Now that we're both heads, we patrol together. Potter will have to be partnered with Jasmine Flint."
Scorpius smirked as protests exploded from Weaslette, Potter and even Flint.
Taking care of Flint was easy. He just looked at her and winked. He had deliberately let slip in the Slytherin carriage before that he had a few surprises planned, and thank Merlin she was smart enough to connect the dots he'd placed in front of her. She shut her mouth and nodded at him, a sly smile on her face.
Next, Scorpius took care of Potter. He held up his hand for silence. Weaslette and Potter ignored it, just as he expected them to.
"Now, now, Potter. We don't want to start the term with Gryffindor having negative points, do we?"
That got his attention. He cared so much about beating Scorpius, and from the look of fury on his face he was just realising that Scorpius could take points from him, even though he was a prefect.
He shut his mouth.
Before Potter could think of something clever or cutting to say, Scorpius turned to Weaslette.
"The head boy and girl are meant to be a united front, wouldn't you agree?"
She opened and closed her mouth. Twice. Scorpius smirked arrogantly at how red her face was again.
"If, however, you don't agree," Scorpius continued arrogantly, "I will be happy for you to swap with someone I agree with too. And before you say it," he added, as she had inhaled as if she were about to speak, "no, I won't swap with Potter. I believe Jasmine will be an excellent partner for him."
The carriage went quiet as Potter and Weaslette fumed. Flint was looking delighted. Scorpius did want this whole scene to end before she realised that she'd agreed to spend the whole year patrolling with Potter though.
"Rosie?"
A quiet voice broke the silence. Everybody turned to look at Lily.
"I can swap with you."
Almost everyone in the carriage gasped. Scorpius smirked. Baby Potter truly was an angel to them. How unthinkable that she might actually want to spend time with him.
"Lily, no. You can't do that." Scorpius turned to sneer at her older brother as he tried to play the gallant protector.
"It's ok. Rosie, I want you to enjoy your time as Head Girl."
Merlin, she was good. Just how was Lily not a Slytherin? Her voice had the perfect amount of timidness to make it seem like she really was a sweet younger cousin sacrificing herself for her beloved cousin. Merlin, Scorpius was lucky.
Weaslette was looking in between Lily, Potter, and him. She wanted to take the offer. It was written all over her face. She knew it would be a selfish thing to do, and yet she still hadn't refused Lily's offer.
Scorpius looked into Weaslette's eyes and sneered as harshly as he could.
"I accept."
"NO!"
Scorpius turned his sneering face onto Potter's furious one. His eyes were slits, and while he wasn't as red as Weaslette had been, his cheeks were still crimson with rage. His jaw was set in a way Scorpius had never seen before. One glance at Potter's face was enough to confirm that he and Lily had been right to hide their relationship. Potter had actually taken out his wand and was pointing it at him.
"You stay away from my sister! I will not allow you to be paired with her."
"You don't have the position to be making such demands. Besides, your dear cousin hasn't objected."
Clearly, Potter had not realised this. His jaw went slack and his eyes widened.
"Rose?" He asked, lowering his wand and turning to Weaslette, who looked torn between guilt and relief.
"I… Well she… I mean…" Weaslette was clearly at a loss for words. For possibly the first time in his life, Scorpius was grateful for something Weaslette said. Her lack of reply seemed to have turned Potter mute as well. Scorpius pounced on the opportunity.
"Well that settles things." He flicked his wand and the parchments all corrected themselves to the new pairings. "Any questions?"
Scorpius knew that there were lots of things they hadn't gone over, but no one looked brave enough to mention it. Weaslette was still trying to find something to justify her swapping with Lily and Potter's fury looked like it was growing by the second. Scorpius made a mental note to extend the time of the next prefect meeting to cover everything.
"Right then," he said jovially, "you're all dismissed. Baby Potter, you stay back. All other Potter's and Weasley's, scram."
Most of the prefects took off. The noise and movement seemed to snap Weaslette out of her inability to speak. She and Potter whipped around to look at him. Potter's wand was back out.
"You are NOT going to pair with my sister. You are not even going to speak to her alone. DO YOU HEAR ME?" Potter's voice rose until he was screaming so loudly Scorpius was convinced the entire train could hear.
Scorpius sighed dramatically, but angled his wand so that, even though his hand was down at his side, it was pointed towards Potter.
"You're the one who insisted I take the time to talk to her last year. 10 points from Gryffindor for questioning instructions from the Head Boy and Girl." Scorpius nearly burst out laughing as Lily shot him an annoyed glance from behind Potter. "Besides, you're the only one who doesn't like this arrangement. Your cousin and sister are happy with it. Isn't that right, girls?"
Weaslette began spluttering again. Potter shot her a furious look but wasn't so easily distracted this time.
"Al," Lily cut in with a much more irritated tone than she had previously been using. "It's just a talk. It's not like I can't handle myself. Besides, you're not going to hurt me, are you Malfoy?"
She looked at him pointedly.
"I wouldn't dream of it. Not when you've got such a scary protector."
Lily shot him a look that was half annoyed, half amused.
Potter didn't move. Scorpius couldn't help but feel a touch of admiration for him. He clearly loved her more than Scorpius had originally thought when he had been using her to insult him.
Scorpius sighed, genuinely this time.
"Look Potter, I'm not going to hurt her. I'm not that stupid. I saw her fend for herself after instigating a duel with Diego for Merlin's sake. I just want to talk to her about patrolling."
Scorpius thought that if anything could have mentally disarmed Potter, it was him being genuine. Scorpius didn't think he had ever said anything genuine to Potter in his life. Potter was clearly thinking the same. His wand lowered slightly, and surprise coloured his face. His eyes widened and his jaw slackened slightly.
He still didn't move though.
"Oh for Merlin's sake, Al," Lily chimed in, sounding increasingly irritated. Her arms were crossed and she moved so that she was in between Scorpius and her brother. "Just go. If I go mysteriously missing between now and the feast you'll know who to blame. Now just leave so that I can get back to my friends."
Lily standing in between the two of them forced Potter to look at her. He was silent for a few moments, staring down into his sister's scowling face.
"Fine," he eventually spat out, lowering his wand entirely. "But if anything happens to her I'll -"
"Yes, yes. You'll come after me and make me regret the day I was born," Scorpius finished, waving his hand dismissively. He resisted the urge to throw in an insult about how he could try to come after him, but he was too desperate to be alone with Lily.
Potter scowled even more deeply at him. Scorpius rolled his eyes. Then he looked at Weaslette and said;
"Fine. You and I need to talk anyway." With that he spun around and stormed out of the carriage, Weaslette scurrying after him.
"Alright Malfoy, what do you want?" Lily sounded annoyed, but she whispered a spell to lock the door after she spoke. Scorpius cast a muffliato spell. Thankfully, the only windows in this carriage were the ones one the outside of the train, not on the door, so there was no need to do anything else to ensure they wouldn't be caught.
And with that, Lily and Scorpius crashed into each other. Scorpius kissed her fiercely. He hadn't seen her since they went on the London Eye together. It had only been about two weeks, but still. He had missed her more than he thought he would during those two weeks. There was also something strange about pretending to be using her only as a way to fight with her cousin. It wasn't right. Scorpius needed to make things right again.
So he kissed her fiercely. She kissed him back with the same hunger. They'd kissed many times before, but this was different. Scorpius felt an almost possessive need to remind her that he loved her, that she wasn't just a piece in some battle that had nothing to do with her.
Scorpius pulled away from her just enough to look into her eyes. Staring into her eyes made him feel like he was staring at a total solar eclipse. As always, he could have stood there all day staring into the entire universe she had in her eyes.
"I love you," he breathed, clutching her tightly to him. He bent his head and began kissing her jaw, then her neck. His hands roamed her body in a way he'd never allowed them to, one hand holding her waist, the other coming up her side until they reached her breast.
"I love you too, Scorpius."
Hearing her words caused a joy so fierce to erupt inside of him that he felt as if he might explode. He kissed his way back up her neck to her lips again. He knew that she loved him. Not the idea of him, not his Malfoy last name, not his popularity or his grades or quidditch success. She loved Scorpius. What a truly magical thing it was, to be able to bare your soul so completely to someone and have them love you for who you are and nothing more.
Although Scorpius would have much preferred to continue kissing her and touching her the way he was doing, he forced himself to stop. He knew where they were and there was no way he was going to risk losing her just for a bit of pleasure.
Scorpius looked into Lily's radiant face. She put her hand on his cheek. He covered her hand with his own. He stared into the universe in her eyes.
"I love you, Lily," he said again.
"I love you too, Scorpius," she repeated.
Scorpius had never seen anyone so beautiful in his life. Her dark red hair was messed up from his hands running through it. Her cheeks were tinged slightly pink. Her eyes were as breathtaking as ever. Her soft smile melted his heart.
"You know," Lily began thoughtfully, "I think you were having a little bit too much fun with Rose and Albus."
Scorpius put his other hand on his heart.
"Me? I would never have fun with something like that."
Lily shot him such an unimpressed look at his feigned offence that he burst out laughing.
"Ok fine. I couldn't help it though. Your cousin basically tried to tell me that she was taking over and I didn't have a say in anything. I couldn't have that. Besides, this was your idea that just we just pulled off flawlessly." He looked at her with his eyebrow raised.
"Ok fine," Lily conceded. "I guess it wouldn't have worked otherwise. Did Rose really try to edge you out of doing anything at all? Actually, don't answer that. Of course she did." Lily rolled her eyes.
"We have rounds every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I tried to space it so that we wouldn't go long stretches without being able to see each other."
Lily embraced him.
"Thank you. Worst case scenario, I'll see you on Tuesday then?"
"Tuesday," Scorpius confirmed, unable to resist kissing her one last time. They'd been alone for long enough that Potter would start trying to break down the door any second.
All too soon Lily had pulled away from him, muttered a spell to return her hair back to the neat hairstyle she had had before Scorpius ruined it, and unlocked the door.
Scorpius watched as she opened the door and was immediately set upon by her irritating older brother. Scorpius heard Lily angrily tell him that she was fine as they walked away, leaving Scorpius alone in the carriage.
