Jedi Temple Mess Hall, 9 am
Today was the big day. Later that evening, not only Jedi, but also distinguished guests such as Chancellor Palpatine, Senators Amidala, Organa, Chuchi, Mothma, Free Taa, Bonteri, Representative Binks and many more would be treated to a very different style of music.
Band members sat across several tables, eating either some type of meat or fruit. Some drank caf to give them a much needed boost of energy, while others preferred tea to soothe their nerves.
Glenn saw it fit to try the much talked about Meiloorun fruit. It was so large, that he had no problems cutting it into smaller pieces to share with others. Fortunately, Tony Martin, Scott and Eddie were actually curious about it. "Which one of us goes first ?" Glenn queried.
Tony Martin quickly grabbed a piece and took a bite. "Hey, this ain't bad at all ! Makes me think of a watermelon, just a tad bit sweeter."
That was enough to prompt Scott to take a piece himself. "Not bad at all. And not too sweet either. Just perfect."
Eddie took a huge chunk in one bite. "Oh, yeah ! I could see this in a salad. Just a tiny bit of salty food mixed in there, like bacon bits... and it would create just the right balance between salt and sweet. Just lovely."
Finally, Glenn went ahead and took his share. "Here goes." As he bit into the fleshy part of the fruit, his face told it all. "Gentlemen, I believe I may have found my favourite food in this strange new world."
Lemmy passed by, Jack n' Coke in hand. "That any good ?"
Glenn gave it two thumbs up. "Marvelous, Lemmy. Want a piece ?"
"No thanks, mate." Lemmy replied, with a smirk on his lips. "Too healthy for my tastes !"
Eddie looked up to him, bursting into laughter. "Why am I not surprised ! Heh ! It can't all be chips and burgers, you know ?"
Lemmy's stomach grumbled. "I'd take a nice, fat burger if there'd be some around. But, I'm not seeing them here, so I guess I'll stick to my Jack n' Coke as my sustenance." He moved further and ended up at Ronnie and Vinny's table.
"All right, Ron ?"
Ronnie raised both fists triumphantly in the air. "Terrific, Lemmy ! Haven't felt this great in so long ! I feel like I could go through several tours in a row and not get burnt out."
Lemmy let out a soft chuckle. "That much, huh ? I'm really looking forward to see how this new crowd will react to our music. Hopefully, they'll like it. If not..."
Ronnie exhumed sheer confidence, smiling. "They'll be shocked for the first few songs, but afterwards I'd expect they'll gradually get into it. Trust me, I share your excitement for tonight. Just 12 hours to go. It'll be great !"
Before leaving off, Lemmy patted Ronnie's shoulder encouragingly. "Don't overdo it, huh ? Won't do you any good if you can't last until the end of the show."
Ronnie held a hand in a salute. "Yes, sir !"
At another table sat Tony and Ian. The Deep Purple vocalist still felt a bit worried over his upcoming performance. "I really want to give these people a good show, but what if I bust my voice over a song ?"
The Black Sabbath guitarist took off his glasses and squinted at the grey haired Deep Purple vocalist. "Only you know your limits, my friend. Don't cross them and it ought to go well. None of us will expect you to unleash banshee-like screams like you did at the time. Thankfully, everybody's songs are more or less spread out over the setlist, so you ought to have more than enough time to give your voice the break it needs between your performances."
Ian breathed a sigh of relief. "Well, that's very considerate of that girl. Remind me to thank her after the show."
Tony nodded. "Will do."
Galactic Senate Building, 6 pm
Padme was finishing up a report when Jar-Jar suddenly popped his head in her office's door.
"Senator Padme, where are weesa going again ?" He asked in the most innocent tone.
She looked out to him. "The Jedi Temple, Jar-Jar. We've been invited to a music show, remember ?"
The Gungan scratched his head sheepishly. "Uhhh... Meesa forgot ! Oopsie ! Meesa sorry. Weesa not late, right ?"
Padme shook her head. "No. They'll be starting in 3 hours from now. We just have enough time to gather everyone and get through the evening rush. See if you can find Senator Mothma, Chuchi, Organa and Bonteri. They'll be flying with us. I'm almost done writing this report and then we'll be on our way."
"Okie day, Senator ! Meesa be back soon !" He left off to search for the others.
She kept working away. "Almost done. Just a few more lines in my current arguement... There !" She closed her datapad and placed it in a drawer under her desk. Moments later, Jar-Jar reappeared with all four friends. "Good, everyone's here. All right, let's make our way to the Galactic Senate's landing pad."
As they reached their current destination, Chancellor Palpatine, Vice Chair Amedda, Senators Free Taa, Dod and Burtoni were already embarking on a speeder of theirs. Once they departed for the Jedi Temple, Padme and her entourage embarked on their designated speeder. Sitting at the front with Mothma, she looked over her shoulder to trio in the back seat. "Everybody ready ?"
The trio nodded. Their ride didn't go as smoothly as they hoped, the evening rush was worse than they anticipated, so it took them almost 2 hours and a half to reach the Jedi Temple.
Jedi Temple, 8:30 pm
Jedi of all ages and ranks as well as invited politicians began to pour into the temporarily revamped Funeral Pyre room. On the left were ascending rows of seats, approximately 250. On the right was an enormous stage, slightly raised from the ground. Stacks of amps closed off access behind the curtains, save for several spaces for the musicians to come and go as they needed. On the stage, stacked against the amps were several guitars and basses. A rather large drum kit took most of the back central space, leaving several feet for the singers to perform. For virtually everyone present, this was a strange sight to behold.
The members of the High Jedi Council sat at the top row. Politicians chose their seats on the fourth and third rows, sitting alongside various Jedi Knights. Padawans had the second row to themselves mostly, while the Younglings sat at the very front row with their teachers. Much random chatter ensued between everyone.
At the front row, nearly smack in the middle, sat Petro and Katooni, surrounded by their classmates Ganodi, Zatt, Byph and Gungi. At the leftmost seat sat Master Librarian Jocasta Nu. On the rightmost seat was teacher Tera Sinube.
Petro continually fidgeted about in his seat, continually checking his chrono, much to the annoyance of Katooni.
"You know, even if you keep checking every second, it's not gonna go faster. Relax Petro, it'll happen."
Petro had the biggest grin of all. "I know, I know. But I'm so excited ! Remember how loud they were when we first heard them... and that was just practice !"
Katooni covered her ears out of instinct. "Don't remind me. I'm not sure if my ears can take all that noise for over 2 hours..."
Almost right above Katooni sat Ahsoka with a conveniently empty seat on her right. Left to her sat her former Wasskah allies, Jinx and O-mer. Before another Padawan could sit next to Ahsoka, Lux Bonteri slowly made his way to her. While she was currently chatting with Jinx, Lux cleared his throat. "Excuse me, Padawan Tano, is this seat next to you taken ?"
Recognizing the voice, she put her conversation with Jinx on hold. "Hold on to that thought, Jinx. I'll get back to you in a moment." She quickly turned to face him, a big smile on her face. "Lux ! What a nice surprise ! Sure, make yourself comfortable. I didn't know you were currently on Coruscant. First time ?"
He made himself comfortable. "Actually, yes. It took us a bit of time to find our way around, but once I saw the Galactic Senate building, all was good."
She raised an eye marking. "Us ?"
Lux chuckled. "Saw came along, but chose to stay in my office instead of coming. I have a feeling he'll probably regret it, but I have to respect his decision regardless."
Ahsoka nodded. "Of course." She motioned to the two sitting to her left. "These two are Jinx and O-mer. They've helped me along with the Wookie Chewbacca to fight off Trandoshans that wanted to hunt us for sport."
Lux couldn't believe what he was hearing. "W-what ?! Being hunted for sport ?! How dreadful ! Thank the Force that you all survived !"
A tear fell from Jinx's eye. "We succeeded in the end, but at a heavy cost. Kalifa, another Youngling at the time like us, was savagely shot down by those hunters. Without Ahsoka's optimism and Chewbacca's strenght... we would have been long dead as well. We are forever thankful for their help."
Ahsoka exhaled a loud sigh. "At least she didn't die in vain, it gave us a reason to finally come up with a plan to fight back."
O-mer quickly explained to Lux how they managed to capture a Trandoshan and used him to reach their goal. Once he finished the tale with Ahsoka's duel alone with Garnac, he was even more impressed by her fighting prowess. But having seen her in action on Onderon, he wasn't the least bit surprised that she ended up victorious over her deadly adversary.
On the third row not too far from Ahsoka and Lux, sat Jar-Jar, Padme and Anakin. Above on the fourth row, Obi-Wan sat next to Satine. At the rightmost edge of the fourth row was Chancellor Palpatine with Vice Chair Amedda, Senators Dod, Burtoni and Free Taa. Right above Palpatine and the Senators were Windu, Mundi, Ti, Yoda and various others of the Jedi Council.
Jar-Jar held out an ear towards the stage. "Meesa hear noting ! Meesa tinks no music gets played at all ! Why they make us wait ? Weesa ready, yes ?"
Anakin couldn't help but chuckle at the Gungan's impatience. "Heh. You think nothing's gonna be happening, Jar-Jar ?" He checked his chrono. "5 minutes to go. I don't know about the rest of you, but I suddenly feel a little bit of anxiety. How do you think this will play out ?"
Padme patted her secret husband's shoulder. "What I've heard from most, if not all of them, is that they've been performing for over 40 years, so it's safe to say we're dealing with professionals here, Ani."
Jar-Jar's eyes nearly leapt out of their stalks. "Huh ?! Theesa people bein playin for 40 years ?! That is longo time. They musta be bombad !"
Anakin threw a smirk towards Jar-Jar. "You'll find out sooner than you think."
Senator Lott Dod was the closest he's ever been to Senator Amidala, the time when she and Anakin stole a hologram containing precious information from him, Rush Clovis and Poggle the Lesser, began to play in his head. He wanted so much to get back at her, but there were far too many Jedi around to do anything, so he had to sit tight and plot for a future attempt.
"You cost us dearly, Senator ! No matter, vengeance comes to those who wait. Oh yes..."
Senator Burtoni threw a glance towards Palpatine. "I don't know why I went with you all. I could've gotten important paperwork done instead ! Prime Minister Su is supposed to be providing me important information concerning the progress of clone troops in the making."
Palpatine appeared somewhat shocked. "My dear friend, all work and no relaxation is not healthy. Besides, you'll have plenty of time to catch up on your work in the coming days. I, for one, am mildly curious about this event."
The lights began to dim gradually. People still continued to chatter, until the room became pitch black for a moment. Chatter was suddenly replaced by gasps coming from everyone. For seconds that felt like hours, there was complete silence. An instant later, the silence was broken by the loudest bass rumble anyone had heard. A spotlight appeared over the singer's center. Lemmy stepped out of the shadows, strumming his Rickenbacker bass, lit cigarette in his mouth. To his right, another spotlight appared as "Fast" Eddie took his spot, brandishing his signature Stratocaster. Phil sneaked from behind the curtain to the drum kit, nearly tripping on his stool. Most did not expect this at all, many just sat there in utter shock, mouth wide open.
Lemmy took hold of the microphone momentarily, raising it above his head at a 45 degree angle facing down. "Good evening ! How are you all ?"
People didn't know how to react, so they stood silent.
Lemmy just went on with the show, but tossed his cigarette butt on the stage's floor and extinguished it first. "We are Motörhead ! We play Rock n' Roll !" As everyone adjusted their instruments for optimum performance, there was the sound of hundreds of World War II Bombers flying overhead with emphasis on the propellers playing in the background, giving an unsettling atmosphere. Once that sound effect abated, an Air Raid siren began to sound loud and clear. Now the audience were getting especially uneasy. And when they least expected, the first of many songs began when Lemmy shouted "BOMBER !" to the top of his lungs.
Nobody was prepared for such loud and fast, aggressive music. Many squirmed in their seats when Lemmy began to sing, his unique voice would take a few minutes to get used to.
During the last chorus of the song, Lemmy was especially lively. "It's a bomber ! It's a bomber ! IT'S A BOMBER ! HEY HEY HEY HEY !"
Not giving the audience the time to breathe, the trio moved on immediately with the classic "Ace of Spades". The song was just as relentless as the first one. Many gambling metaphors were placed into the lyrics, the majority which were lost on the audience.
Once the song was over, there was finally a breather and a much appreciated moment of silence. Lemmy waved to the audience. "How was that ? Not too bad, right ? The next song is especially meaningful to me. It's an anti-heroin song. If you don't know what that is, it's a really bad drug. I've seen too many people die from it. Worst victim was this black girl I used to be with, named Susan Bennett. Real beautiful girl, but had this really bad addiction to heroin or "smack" as it used to be called. She was all but 19 when she did some and locked herself in the bathroom, preparing a bath." He momentarily sounded choked with sadness. "She ended passing out from the drug and drowning in the bathwater. S-she... she could have been the one... if only she wasn't addicted to fucking "smack"." The audience gasped in unison. Lemmy exhaled a loud sigh. "It still hurts after more than 40 years since it happened." He looked up to the ceiling. "Hey Sue... whereever you might be now, don't be doing "smack" now, alright ?" He then resumed with the show. "Alright, this song, which is wholly dedicated to Sue, is called "Dead Men Tell No Tales". Ready ?"
The audience braced themselves as they began the song. Once again, very fast and loud. The lyrics "But if you're doing smack, you won't be coming back..." made much sense now that they knew Sue's tragic end. Despite being energetic, most people in the audience couldn't help but shed a tear. Ahsoka was especially shaken, hearing of someone not much older than her dying from drug overdose.
Once the song was over, Lemmy moved over to a nearby stand that had a Jack n' Coke for his drinking pleasure. After taking a quick sip, he faced the audience. "Alright, let's move on to something a little more uplifting, alright ? I think it's important to be thruthful and be yourself. If you lose your identity and lie about yourself, you lose all. The song is called "Stay Clean". Here we go !"
The song first began with a drum roll by Phil, followed by a surprisingly pleasant bass and guitar riff. Lemmy even had a quick bass solo, showcasing his skill with the instrument. Eddie also provided a quick guitar solo of his own, giving a positive vibe to the music.
The majority of the audience were beginning to get used to the music, even enjoying it. A few, namely Windu, Mundi and Palpatine were not impressed. He turned to Senator Burtoni. "I'm not enjoying this at all. What about you, Senator ?"
Burtoni glanced back with a shocked look on her face. "Actually, I expected far, far worse. Not bad, though not something I would listen to on a regular basis."
Above, Windu was boiling with rage inside. He turned to Yoda. "Have you seen that ?! Not only does he have the gall to smoke, but also partake in alcohol during the performance ! Unacceptable !"
Mundi nodded in agreement. "There are always some who think they're above the rules. That seems to be one such person. I am not impressed."
Yoda tried to reason with them. "Different life values than us he has, yes. Still, an honorable man in him, I see. Not affect his performance, his consumption does. Used to it, he must be."
Lemmy gave the audience a thumbs up. "How about that ? Much better, right ? Ok, moving on. Here is the very first song anybody heard from us. It's a more "energetic" take on the last song I wrote while I was in another band called Hawkwind. Bears the name of the band. Motorhead is basically slang for speedfreak, which I am. Basically a lovely, more or less, "harmless" drug that simply keeps you wide awake and going when you really need to. Here goes !"
The song definitely had a rawer feel to the music, with many allusions to the drug's effect. Basic, yet also quite pleasant.
Lemmy smiled to the audience once they were done playing. "Allright, the topic of the next song addresses rude people. Nobody likes a person with bad manners, right ? It's appropriately titled "No Class"."
Once again, the song featured an enjoyable rythm peppered with some quick solos by Eddie. As the lyrics sunk in, the majority of the audience mentally agreed with Lemmy's opinion on these type of people.
Following the song, Lemmy went back for another sip. "Ahhh. To me, nothing beats a good whiskey with Coke. So refreshing ! Ok, the next song is another really good one. It's about a friend of mine, called Guy "Tramp" Lawrence. Met him thanks to Motorcycle Irene, a girl whom also shared the same flat with Tramp. He was the president of Hell's Angels, a biker organization, in London at the time. We got along quite well. Hell's Angels became my unofficial bodyguards for the first decade of Motörhead's existence. Like many of Hell's Angels, he lived for his motorcycle. So here is my tribute to him, called "Iron Horse/Born to Lose". Ready ?"
The song was the longest so far, but it possessed the raw energy and catchy rythm like the other songs so far. What made this one stand out was the epecially long blues-styled solo performed by Eddie. The lyrics couldn't drive the point home further, "Tramp" REALLY loved his motorcycle, citing it as being his wife and life dedication.
Once the song was over, Eddie swapped the microphone from Lemmy. "Are you all enjoying yourselves so far ?! C'mon, let your voices be heard !" The audience roared with a thundering "YEAH !" Their enthusiastic response brought a smile to Eddie. "Awesome ! The next song is the title track from the last album I did with these two. "Iron Fist" is the title, it's another fast number. Here we go !"
Fast was an understatement, this was a blistering song with incredible guitar riffs and fast drumming. The lyrics related to someone fighting and brutally winning over an adversary, which went hand in hand with the equally brutal music.
Lemmy could see that most of the audience were out of breath. "All right, before we move on to the final song in our set, here's a relatively slow one, called "Metropolis". Try not to decipher meaning in the lyrics, they're complete nonsense."
The song was indeed a much needed break from both speed and intensity. As Lemmy had mentioned, the lyrics were definitely silly.
As the audience braced themselves for the final aural onslaught by the trio, Lemmy took one last sip. "All right, before we move on to our last song, I have one... no, two things to address. First up, this setlist and what will follow would not be possible without the participation of... Assoka, Kanooti and Pedro ! Let's give them a big hand !"
Ahsoka facepalmed at her name being said wrong while Katooni and Petro were laughed at by their peers for the same reason as Ahsoka.
Not realizing his flub, Lemmy went on to his second point. "All right, you're obviously all new to Motörhead, so let's get everybody introduced. Behind me is the craziest drummer I've ever played with, Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor !" Phil rose up from his drum stool, making exaggerated bows to the crowd and blowing imaginary kisses as well. "On my right, a mean guitar player in his own right, "Fast" Eddie Clarke !"
Eddie proceeded to play a quick solo before taking the microphone again momentarily. "On bass and vocals, the One and Only, Lemmy KILMISTER !"
Lemmy graciously bowed before the audience. "All right. Time to finish off our set. This is our loudest and fastest song yet, it's time for "Overkill" ! Ready or not, HERE GOES !"
The first thing people heard was Phil hitting the double bass drums by stepping on pedals at an excessively fast rate. Then came both bass and guitar leads roaring out of nowhere ! Most of the audience had trouble understanding how Phil was able to keep up his insanely fast rythm continually. Some began to think he was a machine rather than a man. Just when it sounded like the song was ending, Phil's speedy double bass runs shown otherwise. They actually did a third run of the main melody, this time inserting more bass and guitar solos. Lemmy then held up his bass like a weapon, aiming it at the audience. He then punched the strings, making a metallic sound and finally rested his bass by the rack of amps, raising the volume to the absolute max, creating a deafening echo heard all across the room.
Finally, he walked over to the center of the stage, flanked by Phil and Eddie on both sides. "DON'T FORGET US ! WE ARE MOTÖRHEAD AND WE PLAY ROCK N' ROLL !"
Padme's ears were indeed ringing. "Oh, don't worry ! We won't !"
Anakin didn't seem to mind the noise much. He turned to Jar-Jar. "Well, that wasn't so bad overall, right ?"
The Gungan held out an ear. "WHAAT ?! MEESA CAN'T HEAR YOUSSA !"
The audience were given some extended time to recover from the loudness. Random chatter resumed for a while.
Lux felt his ears. "Oooohhhh... I had no idea it was going to be this loud. My poor ears !"
Ahsoka gritted her teeth. "How do you think I feel, Lux ?! My montrals have never been this sore ! Ow !"
Below, Petro still had a huge smile on his face. "That was so wizard ! Can't wait to hear how the rest turns out."
Katooni was in pain and on the verge of crying. "They better be less loud or I won't be able to stand this to the end."
Above on the fourth row, Obi-Wan and Satine were comforting each other. "Hopefully, the next segment will be much more gentle."
Satine never felt safer than having Obi-Wan next to her. "I'm sure they will do so, Obi."
Backstage, the musicians were readying to start their act. Ozzy and Ian were looking intently at the setlist. The former was especially pleased. "C-can't go wrong with playing the very first song we ever d-did. It'll be great !"
Ian rubbed the back of his neck. "Hoo boy ! Then I'm up and I kick things up a notch with "Trashed"... I can do this. I can do this."
Tony Martin placed a supportive hand on Ian's shoulder. "You'll be fine. Stop worrying. Then it's my turn with a Headless Cross song, woohoo !"
Glenn eyed the setlist as well. "Oh man... "In For The Kill" as my first go ? Haven't sung that one live in ages ! Thank goodness we all had a full week to rehearse."
Ronnie was sitting down at the moment, mentally preparing himself for his performance. "Unless I'm mistaken, I think that "TV Crimes" is first song I sing... Good song overall, but I have a feeling the message will probably be lost on this crowd."
Tony looked at his watch. "It's been 30 minutes since Lemmy and the boys left the stage. It's our cue to go, lads." He faced all participants. "Everybody ready ?"
Ozzy was the first to head out. "N-no sense in staying around here any l-longer, right ? Let's go !"
He quickly stepped out and made a beeline towards the microphone. "Is this thing on ?!" He blurted out, just noticing his voice echoed through the room. "Heh, guess it is !" He looked around him, ensuring everyone took their respective places. He waved to the crowd. "Hello, everybody ! I'm Ozzy Osbourne. I'm the singer... well, uh... one of several. Yeah, that's it ! Ok, let's just get the introductions out of the way, allright ? Farthest left, on keyboards... uhhh... what's your name again ?"
Scott rolled his eyes. There was a microphone conveniently hooked up to his device. "Scott... Scott Warren. Keyboardist for Dio and Heaven & Hell." He waved to the crowd.
Ozzy looked insulted. "For Fuck's sake, man ! I c-can't remember all of your names, y'know ?!" He motioned to his left. "Here is Geezer Butler, the best fucking bass player I e-ever had the pleasure of playing with !" He looked to his back. "On drums... Uhhh... A... Appice ?"
Vinny looked pissed. "C'mon, man ! Are you for fucking real ?! Vinny Appice ! How hard is that to remember ?!"
Ozzy flipped a bird towards Vinny. "You should k-know, my memory isin't what it used to be ! A-all those drugs and all that b-booze didn't do me any favours." He decided to be done with the introductions as quickly as possible. "Last, but certainly not least, the Creator of the Heavy Metal Riff and the best guitarist in the world, Tony Iommi !"
Tony bowed before the crowd, smiling.
It was time to move things foward. "All right, the first song we're gonna play... Oh, r-right, I almost forgot, our band's name is Black Sabbath. From our first album, also titled Black Sabbath, here is our first song... also titled "Black Sabbath". Here we go !"
Scott used his keyboards to play the sounds of rain, church bells and finally rumbling thunder. After a certain point, Tony unleased a monster riff, supported by Butler's rumbling bass work and Appice's ever-precise drumming. Ozzy finally took the microphone, bestowing upon the audience an eerie tale of a mysterious shadowy figure, threatening to do harm. His alarming cries of "God ! Please God, NO !" made more than a few people squirm in their seats. Halfway through the song, the rythm picked up pace, giving an exhilarating feel to the song.
Once the song was over, Ozzy prompted the audience to cheer. "C'MON NOW ! MAKE SOME FUCKING NOISE ! I WANT TO SEE YOU ALL GO CRAZY !" Some cheered loudly, but most preffered to simply clap. Ozzy bowed before the crowd. "T-thank you very much !" He then snuck back behind the curtains, only for Ian to pop out in his stead.
He stood next to the microphone stand, looking at the other members of the band, then at the audience. "Good evening ! I hope you're all enjoying yourselves ! I'm Ian Gillan, another singer that fronted this amazing band during a brief period. When we were recording Born Again, myself, Tony and Geezer kept pranking each other. We had a lot of laughs, but there were some instances where it wasn't all that funny. Case in point, the subject of the coming song. It was one of those nights that I had drank a lot more than I should've had. Being completely drunk, I thought it was a fun idea to take Bill's car and race around. In the end, the car flipped and nearly fell into the nearby pool. I crawled out, completely unscathed ! The car burst into flames not long after, so I was very, very lucky ! So, here's the first song from the album, appropriately titled "Trashed"."
As the song began, Ian showed off his trademark shrieks, albeith at a slightly lower register than normal. By the middle of the song, Tony delivered a blistering solo. The lesson everybody learned from that song was Don't Drink and Drive, or in the case of the audience, Don't Drink and Fly.
Once the song was over, Ian waved to the audience. "Thanks ! Hope you enjoyed it ! See you all on the next Born Again song !"
Once again, the singer switched places with another. In went Ian, out came Tony Martin.
He immediately addressed the crowd. "Hello everybody ! My name is Tony Martin, I'm yet another singer, but I have the distinction of being the second longest-tenured vocalist after Ozzy. We worked together for about 10 years, and we released 5... well... 4 really good albums during my run. The song we're about to play is from the second album I made with Tony, called Headless Cross. I was under the impression that being in Sabbath, that I had to write songs and lyrics about Devils, Evil and Death. Without further ado, here's "Devil and Daughter"."
As opposed to Ozzy and Ian, Tony Martin did lack a stage presence, but made up with a fantastic voice. His delivery sent shivers down many peoples' spines. The lyrics were definitely on the evil side, about a woman tearing other ladies apart just so she could have a man to herself.
The performance finished, Tony Martin waved to the crowd. "Thank you all so much ! I'll be seeing you all again shortly !" Once he returned behind the curtains, Glenn came out in the spotlight.
"Well, hello to you all ! I'm Glenn Hughes. Many know me as "The Voice of Rock". My run-in with Tony was especially intruguing, but I'll spare you a lot of details. Despite not doing well commercially at the time, Seventh Star remains a beautiful album. The funniest thing is that I wasn't even in top form when I did those songs. Goes to show how good I am at my craft. So I'll sing you all a song, I trust you'll enjoy it. It's called "In For The Kill". Here we go !"
As it began, there was already a very different aura. It was more bluesy and soulful. The song about a King defeating rivals and bloodying his hands in the process never sounded so majestic. Glenn's voice was definitely unique.
Glenn blew imaginary kisses to the audience, his big smile always present. "What a lovely audience you all are ! Thank you, thank you so much ! I'll be seeing you all on the next Seventh Star song."
Finally, the diminutive Ronnie came out from behind the curtains. "Wow ! Quite the audience we have tonight ! I'm Ronnie James Dio, a brilliant singer. So far, you've seen... or heard, rather, the other facets of Sabbath. I like when the audience participates along, but you won't hear me screaming for it, though. So without further ado, is a song about Televangelists, those people that try to con you into giving them money to give you happiness. You probably don't know any, and that's for the best. Ok, from the Dehumanizer album, is "TV Crimes". It's on !"
The one thing people noticed right away was that despite his small stature, he had the voice of a giant and a stage presence to match. He was also the most theatrical of all the singers, often using his hands during his lyric delivery to convey specific imagery. The music was the heaviest they've heard from the band so far, with Geezer's bass being especially prominent throughout the song.
Once over, Ronnie flashed his Devil Horns to the crowd. "How about that ? I already can't wait about my next performance. Until then, enjoy what else the band has to offer. There's lots of it, yes indeed !"
In went Ronnie, out came Ozzy once again.
"Alright ! Liking it so far, yeah ? Here's one of the heavier songs we wrote on Vol. 4. It's called "Under The Sun"."
The instant the first mastodon-sized riff was heard, most knew it was going a mostly plodding number. The lyrics dealt mostly with living your life the way you want instead of conforming to typical lifestyles. Halfway through the song, the rythm sped up and the riffs kept getting heavier and heavier. The last portion was completely instrumental. Tony was able to make his heaviest riffs sound emotional. Everything slowed down gradually as the song reached its end, leaving many in awe of Tony's skill with his instrument.
With that, Ozzy ran back behind the curtains. Moments later, Tony Martin stepped back out. "Now... What are we playing now ?" He quickly glanced the setlist. "Oooooohhhhhh... "Anno Mundi" from TYR. I haven't sang that one in a while..." He cleared his throat. "Right. TYR was the third album I did with Tony, it's a bit more melodic, you'll soon hear."
For the first time in the show, the song sounded more like a ballad at first. But that was only for the beginning, it soon transformed into an epic melodic rocker. Tony Martin effortlessly moved between lows and highs with his voice. He was brilliant with the chorus.
He waved to the crowd. "See you in a few songs !" Rushing back behind the curtains, the next returnee was Ronnie, to the delight of many.
Ronnie definitely had a sense of humor. "Gee... Wasn't I here not too long ago ? Somebody likes me, I'd guess." Many in the audience laughed at his comment. "Moving on... Here's a special song, the first one myself, Tony, Geezer and Vinny did together. Title track of my second album with the band. And remember : If you listen to fools, the Mob RUUUULES !"
An energetic riff got things started as Ronnie took a deep breath, unleashing a high scream rarely heard. "Oooooohhhhh... Come OOOONNNN !" Many jaws dropped at that moment, how was that man, nearly pushing 70, still able to hit those extremely high notes ?!
And give an especially energizing performance he did. Thought provoking lyrics about not following the populace or "Mob", or trouble will eventually arise. Once again, he demonstrated his theatrical side, giving plenty of visual cues in his movements.
Happy with his performance and the audiences' reaction, Ronnie gave a thumbs up. "Thank you ! You're a bloody great audience ! I'll be back in a few songs. See ya !"
Glenn once again stepped out to much cheer. "Ah ! Thanks for welcoming me back, all of you ! So, let's do another off of Seventh Star. I believe you'll enjoy the next one. It's called "Turn to Stone", it's a quick one ! Here we go !"
It was evident on both Tony and Glenn's faces that they enjoyed performing those old songs from so long ago. As Glenn sang about a woman with the power to turn people's hearts to stone, Tony played some of his most melodic riffs yet.
The last one to return for a second time was Ian. Still slightly unsure and wary, he addressed the audience. "Well... For my second song, it's one that really made an impression. We were rehearsing and nearby, was a church practicing choirs. You can guess that our loud music more than caused problems for them. So the priest came to see us and asked if we wouldn't mind playing when they weren't practicing. We were more than ok with it. So that priest has been immortalized in this song, more or less. This is where I really reached for the highest notes possible and it surely contributed to losing a good part of my range afterwards. Well... I'm not as young as I used to be and my voice is shot, I'll admit. I'll give you all the best I can with what I have, is that reasonable to you all ?"
The audience nodded. "Thank you. The song is called "Disturbing The Priest". First, we'll let Scott play the "Stonehenge" interlude."
Scott began to play a mysterious melody while Ian prepared himself to unleash the best his voice could offer. Once the interlude was over, Ian immediately began by screaming a few times before beginning to deliver the lyrics. They were definitely eerie, yet the accompanying music made it so much fun to hear. By the end, Ian unleashed a series of diabolical laughs as well as the highest-pitched screams he could manage, which definitely left a lasting impression on the audience.
Once the song was over, Ian definitely looked relieved. "And that, my dear audience, is as high as you'll hear me go. See you on my next song."
As Ian went back behind the curtains, Vinny performed a drum solo, showcasing his skill. He began with a slow and steady drumbeat, then quickened his pace doing all sorts of tricks. He signaled the end of his solo when he hit a large gong hidden in the back of his kit. He then resumed to play a steady rythm.
That rythm announced the coming of the next song. Ozzy stepped out, enthusiatic as ever. "HEY ! HEY ! HEY ! C'MON, MAKE SOME NOISE !" The audience got more into his act, cheering for him. "Alright, this is one of our most popular songs, if not THE most popular. It's called "Iron Man", yeah !"
As Ozzy began to sing, he began hopping in place. "C'MON ! JUMP ! JUMP ! JUMP !" Tony delivered one of his heaviest riffs, while Geezer and Vinny kept the rythm going. The lyrics were as nonsensical as they come, about an Iron Man going through time to get his vengeance on those that ignored him. About halfway through, the pace quickened considerably and Tony delivered yet again a series of memorable riffs.
As soon as the song was over, Ozzy zoomed back behind the curtains. In his stead came again Tony Martin. He immediately took hold of the microphone. "As you can see/hear, Black Sabbath isn't a one-style band. Here's a ballad from the Cross Purposes album, written for the many victims of the Siege of Sarajevo at the time. It's called "Dying For Love". Here we go !"
The first part was a mellow guitar intro, then Tony Martin began to sing in a very emotional tone, causing many peoples' heartstrings to be moved. With comparison to the present Clone Wars, this song hit a bit too close to home.
After the song was done, Tony Martin took a deep breath. "That happened like 15 some years ago... and the images of the conflict we saw through the news still haunts me to this day. During that conflict, which lasted 4 years, 11541 people lost their lives... i-including... *sobs* ... ... 1500 children. 1500 defenceless children." The audience gasped in unison. "So the song may sound beautiful, but it's also quite sad when you learn what it's really about. Let us have a minute of silence, please ?"
For a full minute, the room stood silent. Once the time passed, Tony Martin gave two thumbs up. "Thank you. Thank you all so much."
The moment Tony Martin got back behind the curtains, Scott began to play a simple melody, prompting Ronnie to step out, taking the microphone. "Wow ! I can't believe how well this show has gone so far. For the next song... from the Heaven & Hell album... is something we hope that it doesn't happen to none of you. Stay around a while longer, the song is called "Die Young"." He then motioned to Tony to his right. "Ton ?"
On cue, the keyboard melody stopped and the spotlight focused on Tony, whom delivered an extended guitar solo. Nothing grating, just clean guitar work, which was easy on the ears of almost everybody.
Palpatine kept shaking his head continually throughout the solo. "How can people truly enjoy this "noise" is beyond me..."
Once his extended solo was done, he kicked off with the main riff of the song. The music was especially driving, despite the subject of the song. Its message was clear : Live for today, because there's no telling if you'll still be there tommorow. Once the song reached its end, Ronnie gave a thumbs up to the crowd. "Thank you ! See you in a short bit !"
To everybody's surprise, Tony Martin returned. "Well... I wasn't expecting to come back so quickly. Wasn't that last song just amazing ? So I'll do another song off of Headless Cross, it appears to be a favourite amongst fans. A lot of people seem to really like that album, which of course I'm very thankful for. It's the first album that I wrote the lyrics to and I really wanted to give my best vocally. While we were recording this particular song, I had done well, but I felt I could do better, so I pestered Tony and Cozy (God rest his soul) to give me another try. Eventually they did... and after two different takes, it was clear I wasn't going to surpass my first one. The song is called "Nightwing". Here we go !"
The first noticeable change was that Tony used an acoustic guitar for most of the song, even performing a solo with it. Tony Martin hit his highest notes possible on this song. The lyrics were about a creature called Nightwing, stalking the night and flying about. It made for an especially epic song.
Once he was done, he prompted the audience to clap. "That wasn't too bad, was it ? I don't think I hit the notes like in the studio, but I'd wager I was pretty close, though. Thank you all ! See you soon !"
The audience were a little bit confused this time as not only Tony Martin went behind the curtains, but also Tony and Geezer. Moments later, Ronnie came back out, accompanied by Lemmy and Eddie. Both bass and guitar players took their respective places.
"Well... this is the last of me you'll see/hear of me for a little while..." Ronnie began. "There's still about a dozen songs or so to go. So this next song is from my own solo band, Dio. From the Angry Machines album, this is "Don't Tell The Kids". It's on !"
This was the first truly speedy number since the Motörhead song Overkill, everyone was on fire during this song. Ronnie sung with pure anger while Lemmy's overly distorted bass brought a dirtier aura to the song. The main point of the lyrics was to keep the children blissfully unaware from all the evils of the world, be it political or environmental related. Even if told, they wouldn't understand. "Fast" Eddie played some of his fastest solos yet. Vinny was a beast on drums, rivaling Phil at some parts in the song. Scott's keyboards just held everything together.
Just when they thought they were done playing, Ronnie announced otherwise. "HHHEEEYYY ! STAND UP AND SHOUT ! YEEAAAHHH !"
They burst into another speedy song, with more encouraging lyrics. Basically, it was to empower yourselves and not give up despite the odds. At one point, he prompted the crowd to participate. "Stand up and Shout ! Stand up and Shout ! Let it out ! Let it out ! OUUUTTT ! C'MON, SAY "HEY" !" The crowd shouted with every verse. "YES ! YES ! YES ! YES ! YES ! THAT'S IT ! LET IT ALL OUT ! OUT ! OUT ! OUT ! SHOUT ! SHOUT ! SHOUT ! SHOOUUTT !"
Once the song was over, Ronnie's voice was a little sore, but he enjoyed seeing the crowd so vitalized by his act. "Bloody good ! You all feel better now for letting all that out ? See you all later, you bloody rock !" With that, he walked back behind the curtains with Lemmy and Eddie. An instant later, Geezer and Tony returned to their respective places, accompanied by Ozzy.
He looked to his two longtime friends. "A-are we really doing this ?! We haven't played anything from this fucking album in years !"
Tony walked over to Ozzy and pointed at Ahsoka. "See the girl over there ? She bloody liked it, enjoyed it even. So why don't we place our egos out of the way and just play the song, alright ?"
Ozzy was grumbling inside. He had to look and sound excited. "Hey hey ! We're back ! YEAH ! You all having fun so far ? ARE YOU ?"
The crowd cheered in response. Ozzy put an ear towards the audience. "I CAN'T FUCKING HEAR YOU ! LOUDER !" The audience tried to shout as loud as possible.
Windu titled towards Yoda. "When this is over, I'm going to need medication for the headache."
"That makes two of us !" Mundi chimed angrily.
Yoda looked amused. "Very much ring, our ears will. Enjoying this, I am. Different and refreshing, it is. Yes."
"Alright, okay... Here is a song from the Never Say Die album, it's called... "Johnny Blade" !"
The song was definitely different in style, but elements of the band's usual sound was still present. By the middle of the song, Tony delivered again another memorable riff. The lyrics about a mean person being called Johnny Blade made it all the more fun. For all participants, including Ozzy, the performance went much better than they anticipated.
Ozzy even acknowledged this. "Well... that was actually pretty good. Maybe we should play more from the album ?"
For the time being, Tony shrugged his shoulders. "We'll see..."
"See you all in a bit !" Ozzy shouted.
As Ozzy disappeared behind the curtains, Ian stepped out again. "Been a little while, huh ? So, once again, we'll go through another song off Born Again called "Zero The Hero", but first we'll let Geezer do a quick bass-fuelled intro."
Geezer activated a special pedal that created otherwordly sound effects when he played. It sounded omnious, but it was not to last. A steady rythm and riff drove the song while Ian delivered some of his silliest lyrics yet. He sung them in almost a monotone, but still had a little bit of edge to it. When he got to the chorus, the audience were asked to take part. So all across the room, resounding choruses of "Zero The Hero" were heard throughout. It was one song in which Ian didn't reach for high notes or screams, instead allowing Tony to deliver a blistering solo as usual.
He raised a finger to the crowd. "One more song from me, ok ? See you then !"
Like a revolving door, Ian was swapped with Ozzy. He seemed in much better spirits as opposed to earlier. "Alright ! I'm back ! Here's one of our very best, from the Sabotage album, it's called "Symptoms Of The Universe". Here we go !"
Immediately, Tony began to play a fast and heavy riff, supported by Geezer's bass and Vinny's drumming. Here, the audience heard Ozzy reach the highest notes he could and it showed that he struggled to do so. All in all, a very energetic performance.
Ozzy prompted the crowd to cheer. "HEEEYYY ! WASN'T THAT FUCK'N GREAT?! GOT MORE GOOD SONGS COMING YOUR WAY ! Stick around !"
Ozzy leaves, Tony Martin returns. Many applaud him, having to bow before the audience. "Thank you ! Thank you very much ! We are slowly but surely coming to the end of this show. Hopefully nobody is getting tired, right ?" He gave a sheepish smile. "Well... what I'm about to sing to you all is not one of my better moments... for reasons I don't think I really need to disclose. But fret not ! My next and final performance will be... more pleasant... for me, anyways." He took a deep breath. "Alright... From the Forbidden album, it was chosen that we play "Rusty Angels", which in all fairness is actually one of the better songs from the album. On with the show !"
While it was evident lyric-wise that the song was lacking, Tony's guitar riffs were ever-present and they still sounded good. Tony Martin tried his best to sound as passionate in his singing, but people could hear his heart wasn't in it.
Once the song was over, a great sense of relief washed over Tony Martin. "Well... I hope some of you out there enjoyed that. For those that didn't, I totally, totally understand." He scratched the back of his neck nervously. "Remember, my next and final performance will eclipse this one. See you in a few songs !"
Once Tony Martin went back, Glenn came out. "Hello ! It has been a little while, hasn't it ? So, this time we have the title track, but first we'll let Scott do us an intro called "The Sphinx"." He motioned towards the keyboardist. "Scott, if you please ?"
As Scott began his intro, he held on to a couple of keys, creating a warm and mysterious melody, complete with wind effects blowing about, creating a mental picture of a desolate desert landscape. Once it segued into the track "Seventh Star", Glenn began to showcase his emotional voice, adding to the mysterious keyboard intro. For this track, Tony played a bit more subdued than usual, but his typical sound was still present. Scott's keyboards also provided an arabian-type melody, which helped in maintaning the desert imagery even more.
Once it was over, Glenn boasted his typical big smile. "Well, that was different, right ? I can't wait to do the next one ! I trust you'll all enjoy it ! See you then !"
Ozzy came back out, immediately taking control of the audience. "ALRIGHT ! HERE WE ARE AGAIN ! I WANNA SEE YOU ALL GO CRAZY ! C'MON, MAKE SOME FUCK'N NOISE ! LET ME HEAR YOU !" Once the crowd hollered enough, he was pleased. "OK ! From the EXCELLENT Sabbath Bloody Sabbath album, we have... "Killing Yourself to Live" ! YEAH ! LET'S GO !"
As soon as the song began, virtually everybody got into the catchy riff and rythm. It was so good, it made people want to dance, despite being restrained to their seats. Tony unleashed amazing riff after amazing riff throughout the song. Ozzy sounded fantastic as well.
"YEAH ! WOOOO !" Ozzy held his hands in the air, making peace signs to the audience. "Alright, see you on the next song." Fueled by the audience's energy, he ran back behind the curtains.
Tony Martin came out for the last time, looking slightly disappointed. "Well, I guess this is it. I wasn't expecting to have to bow out so soon. There's still several songs to go." He shrugged his shoulders. "Oh well, guess that's just how things go, right ?" He poured his heart out to the crowd. "First up, I really want to say "Thank You" to all of you for your support. It means the world to me. Now, here is a song, titled "The Shining" from the criminally overlooked Eternal Idol album. The production itself was an absolute nightmare. I was brought into the band at the very last minute. I was asked to re-sing Ray Gillen's (God rest his soul) vocals since he abruptly left the band after finishing recording. So basically, my instructions were : Don't change anything, sing it like you hear it. In retrospect, that was probably for the best, given I only had 7 days to do it all. Enough rambling, have a listen. I hope you'll enjoy."
As the song began, it already exhuded an epic feel to it. As Tony Martin began to sing, he truly gave everything he had, creating a truly mezmerizing experience. Tony's many guitar solos were as tasty as one could hope. What the audience didn't know was the song was based upon a film, which itself was based a well known horror novel.
Once the song was over, Tony Martin actually got a standing ovation. This really brought his spirits up. "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you all for everything. Much appreaciated !" With a final bow, he slid back behind the curtains.
Moments later, Ozzy stepped back out, still very much excited. "Alright ! We've got another good song here ! From the Master of Reality album, we have "Children of The Grave" ! WOOOO !"
The song began with thunderous drum opening by Vinny, supported by Geezer's rumbling bass. Then Tony ripped the universe apart with another masterful riff. Ozzy was hopping in place. "C'MON EVERYBODY ! JUMP ! JUMP ! JUMP !" The audience got into the act, vitalizing Ozzy in the process. The lyrics were definitely eerie. It was about the dangers of nuclear war. During the mid-point of the song, Tony's riffs got even heavier, threatening to crush everything in its path.
Racing back behind the curtains, Ian came out for his last performance. "Well, like Mr. Martin a little while back, this is the last time you'll hear me sing... Well, uh... for tonight, at least. I see that the title track has been chosen. It's a good one, one that doesn't exert my voice too much. So without further ado, here is "Born Again", everybody."
As the song began, Tony began to play a very depressing riff. It made sense when Ian began to sing. It was about some person looking back on his previous glories in life, which seemed so long ago. It also seemed to possess some subtle metaphors on reincarnation. By the end, Tony performed a hypnotic riff, entrancing virtually everyone in the audience.
With the song over, Ian bowed before the audience and also received a standing ovation. "Thank you very much ! Glad you enjoyed it ! Enjoy the rest of the show !"
With that, Ian slowly made his way back behind the curtains.
Ronnie stepped out, obviously looking ready to blow expectations out of the water. "I've been looking through the setlist again, and I see that I'm the third in to bow out, which is fine. Don't worry, though, this isin't my last song tonight. I've got a couple of surprises coming up. Now then... here's a special song from the Heaven & Hell album. The very first song myself, Tony and Geezer wrote together. We'll play it tonight, for you all. It's called "Children of The Sea". It's on !"
With an acoustic guitar intro by Tony, Ronnie began to gently croon before bursting into song. At first, he was deceptively soothing, almost feminine in his delivery, until he gained more and more power in his voice, which then he added a bit of grit. The music and vocals just went hand in hand together. Tony still delivered a great solo before the song reverted to the slow, acoustic intro. His final lyrics gave many chills in their backs. It was all about his control over his voice.
Ronnie then flashed the Devil Horns to the crowd. "Thank you ! See you all very shortly !"
While Ronnie walked back through the curtains, Glenn stepped out.
Boasting his smile as usual, he greeted the audience with open arms. "It hasn't been all that long since I was here last. The next song is a personal one. It's about my struggles with addiction at the time. So here's a word of advice for you all : Never enter the "Danger Zone". Ready ? Here we go !"
Right off the start, the song had a "feel good" rythm with a matching riff. Reading between the lines, some of the audience were able to pick out Glenn's issues and how he still failed to regain control of his life. Tony's solo here was perfect, was just right with Glenn's bluesy voice.
Once he was done, Glenn blew imaginary kisses to the crowd. "Thank you ! I'll return for one last song, but first we'll our good friend Ronnie our full attention, right ?" With that, he left back behind the curtains.
Ronnie stepped out, looking very excited. "Well, we've reached the end of the show, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls." He pointed to Ahsoka. "You ! You are... the absolute... smartest setlist picker I've ever had the pleasure of interacting with. Whether you knew or not, we couldn't have arranged this any better. You're making us end this evening with a bang. Couldn't be more pleased." He prompted the audience to clap. "Ahsoka... Tano, was it ? A round of applause for her, everyone !"
Her lekku stripes darkened to their max. "How should I feel about this ? I did a good job, so I should be happy. Ok, let's take it all in. Everybody's cheering for me ! It feels... great ! So, how do I thank him for the compliment... without having to stand up and do a speech ? ... ... ... Of course ! He'll definitely notice that !" Ahsoka stayed sitting, she slowly raised both arms, and flashed Devils Horns towards Ronnie.
Ronnie's face lit up at her gesture. "Yes ! Yes ! YES ! A connection is made ! Can I expect the same from the rest of you ?"
After moments of hesitation, virtually everyone copied her move, pleasing Ronnie.
"Oh man, this is so beautiful, you're gonna make this old man cry, folks !" He returned to his serious persona. "Ok, so the first of the two last songs I'll sing to you all is from the The Devil You Know album, called "Bible Black" ! It's on !"
It began with a somber guitar part, with Ronnie singing in an equally somber voice.
"At last alone, his fire's dying, burned another day. Now to pretend, and make up an ending, somwhere far away... He reaches for a book all bound in leather, something he knows he's never read... And the first page says "Beware ! You've found the answer !" The next one says "I wish that you were dead !" Don't go on, put it back, you're reading from the Bible BLACK !"
Suddenly, Tony explodes into the song with a massive riff. What was once somber transformed into an epic tale about a book of evil. Saying that it became that person's addiction and that certain incantations could take one to Hell, the song definitely had a creepy but amazing vibe to it.
Once he was done singing, Ronnie quickly rushed backstage for a quick glass of water. Upon his return, he glanced to both Geezer and Tony. "This is the big one, boys ! Let's do this !" Then he addressed the audience. "Thank you so much ! So now to finish my part of the show, here is the title track from the first album I did with Tony and Geezer. It's "Heaven & Hell" ! Here we go !"
This song possessed some of the strangest lyrics. Was it literal... or did you need to really read between the lines to really get it ? By mid-point, the pace quickened and Ronnie delivered some of his most bizarre lyrics.
"They say that life's a carousel, spinning fast, you've got to ride it well. The world is full of Kings and Queens, who blind your eyes then steal your dreams. It's Heaven & Hell, oh well. And they'll tell you that black is really white, the Moon is just the Sun at night. And when you walk in golden halls, you get to keep the gold that falls. It's Heaven & Hell, oh no !"
The song ended with an acoustic guitar melody. Once it was over, the entire room rose up for a standing ovation.
Ronnie flashed Devil Horns to the crowd. "THANK YOU ! Thank you, thank you, thank you ! You're a wonderful audience ! Two songs to go ! Enjoy them, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls."
Glenn was the second-to-last to end the show. He tried to boast his big smile as usual, but something was off. "Alright... my last performance. I... I'm a little choked up right now... Not because I'm going after this, but rather because this very performance will be a truly emotional one... The first segment, "Angry Heart" is melancholic, yes, but w... what follows... "In Memory..." is heartbreaking... for many reasons. I'm sure that a lot of you have lost loved ones over the years... And that final segment may trigger memories of happier days, thus in result triggering the sudden realization that these loved ones are long gone. Having said this... I sincerely hope that none of you will be unable to deal with the trigger." He took a long, deep breath. He was on the verge of crying himself.
I dedicate the whole s-song to a good friend of mine, Tommy Bolin. I got along with him quite well. We hung out together nearly all the time... We understood each other musically. H-he was a most gifted guitarist... Like myself and many others in this profession, he suffered from addiction. He had a full life and a great c-career before him... Alas, Tommy passed from alcohol and drug overdose at..." He took another deep breath. "25 years old." The audience gasped in horror and disbelief. "So you can understand how difficult it is for me to keep focused. But, I'll do it... For Tommy's sake." Like Lemmy earlier with Sue, Glenn looked up to the ceiling. "Tommy... whereever you are... know that I love you and miss you... Don't do drugs out there, ok ?"
The first segment was straightforward, with a good riff and keyboard melody. Glenn definitely poured his emotions here. But nothing, nothing would predict the impact the second segment would have on the audience. Glenn's voice cracked as he sang, sounding indeed heartbroken.
Lux immediately thought of his parents, Obi-Wan of Qui-Gon, Anakin of his mother, while Ahsoka, Jinx and O-mer all thought of Kalifa.
After he was done singing, Glenn couldn't take it anymore. He wiped his tear-striken face then collapsed on Tony's shoulder, weeping loudly. The only thing Tony could do to console him was to hug and pat him on the back.
"It's allright, mate. It's allright." Tony soothed.
It took a few minutes for Glenn to regain his composure. Once he broke off from Tony, he once again wipes his eyes, faced the audience, a small smile on his face already forming. "I... I'm allright. It's those blasted emotions, you know. When they take hold of you, ain't much you can do about it, right ? I hope that despite the sadness, that you still enjoyed my performance. Thank you, everyone !" He walked calmly behind the curtains.
Now it was time to wrap things up. Ozzy stepped out, rubbing his eyes. Glenn's saddening performance must have hit him too. He shook his head, facing the audience. "Holy Fucking GOD ! How does anyone top that ?! We all bawled our eyes back there ! That's how moving his performance was ! Well... We gotta end this show in a happy way, right ? RIGHT ?!"
"YEAH !" The audience shouted back.
Tony began to play a riff, which got Ozzy on the move. "Alright ! The last song ! It's called "Paranoid" ! WOOOO !"
The song dealt mostly with mental illness. Some of the lyrics sounded funny, but the topic at hand was a serious one. As with every song, Tony never failed to deliver a great solo. Once they were done, Ozzy cheered at the crowd. "YEEAAHH ! THAT'S IT, PEOPLE ! Thank you so much for coming here tonight ! Hope you liked it all ! Thank you, everybody ! Good night !"
The entire audience (save Windu, Mundi and Palpatine) stood up and gave everybody a standing ovation as they all came out from behind the curtain, waving and blowing imaginary kisses at the audience. It was going to be an evening the Jedi and politicians would not soon forget.
Whew ! What a monster chapter ! I knew this one would take me a while, but not this long. I did struggle with writer's block on a few occasions. I probably went way overboard with the amount of songs here, but for a band this diverse and having lasted almost 50 years, I really wanted to showcase all their facets as best as I could. Over the next chapter, the events of the Fugitive Arc will occur. How will the musicians react to the Temple Bombings ? How much change can their presence/involvement bring ? You'll all find out in the next chapter. Feel free to leave a review.
