Chapter 2 - Disbelief - Revised
Sam stood there staring at Burdette. He clearly thought she was pulling his leg. "Burdette, you know that's impossible."
"When she was 14 she got mono," said Burdette putting 'mono' in air quotations, "And she's been able to transform ever since."
"And you believe her?!" said Sam looking from Burdette to me and back again.
"I can prove it," I said finally, speaking directly to Sam and trying to hide the quiver in my voice.
"I'll prove it right now if you like," I continued.
Sam stood there for a moment, thinking. He looked like an intelligent guy and my case must have intrigued him because he said,
"Fine. Show us. But if you are lying," he began but stopped when Burdette swatted at him with her green cloth.
"There is no need for threats, Alpha," she said sternly.
The term Alpha caught my attention, and I glanced at Sam. When his gaze met mine I averted my eyes.
"Is there somewhere we can go?" I asked, looking at Burdette, "I don't want to wreck your house."
She smiled lightly, "This way."
We all walked out of the front door, Sam closing it behind him. Burdette walked towards the forest and led us a couple of yards past the initial tree line before stopping. Thinking before acting I slipped behind a tree and stripped down. I had gone through too many clothes to not know what would happen if I kept them on when I transformed. Staying behind the tree I allowed myself to slip into my wolf form. I had never grown tired of how amazing it felt. I came walking out from behind the tree, though they could probably already see me as I was so big. The stunned look on Sam's face made me laugh, although it came out as a bark.
"Holy shit," said Sam.
"Do not swear," Burdette reprimanded him.
"Sorry, but holy…," he said, still looking stunned.
"Oh so now he believes me," I thought.
"How did you do that!?" Sam exclaimed, looking bewildered.
I cocked my head to the side, unsure what he was referring to.
"I heard you," he said, tapping a finger to his head.
"You can hear me?" I thought tentatively.
"How the hell," said Sam.
Burdette seemed to ignore Sam's language this time and looked at him confused.
"You can hear her," she asked.
"Yeah, I don't know how but, it's definitely her voice," he said running a hand through his hair.
"Why can you hear me, but Burdette can't," I asked.
"I would assume it's because Burdette is human," Sam said.
"What does that make you," I asked, my heart beginning to race again,
"A werewolf," he said with a slight grin.
He turned and walked behind the closest tree and within moments a huge, pure black wolf stood before me.
Sam seemed to exude power in this form, and I ducked my head slightly.
"What you are feeling is my power as an Alpha," he explained, his voice clear in my mind. "In a wolf pack, the Alpha is the most dominant wolf, and therefore he has the power to bring his pack to heel if necessary."
"So where there is an Alpha, there is a pack," I thought, and the reality of what Burdette and Sam had been talking about came crashing down on me. There were others.
