I don't really know what this was.
To be honest, I was watching Anastasia while writing this, so I suppose I was loosely inspired :|

He was royalty. He knew this as a fact. Maybe not the same title as a traditional mortal Prince, but certainly royal in some way.
He was, after all, the "Prince of Winter"

"Yeah, nice try mate. That's just a sayin'"
"Well, how could you know? Have you ever met the Snow Queen? Technically, we're related" Jack smiled.
"Technically, related by work, not blood" Tooth playfully remarked.
"Same difference"

Jack smiled, but for some reason it didn't feel real. Sure, he wasn't 'bow down and kiss my hand' royalty, but it did hurt for some reason when the other Guardians dismissed his idea. He was looking for answers about why he still felt empty despite having a new life and a fresh start, and he had come up with a good one all on his own. The Guardians just totally ripped it apart. Being a Prince made him feel like he could be important. Like he had meaning, a purpose.

"Oh please. Ya couldn't act like royalty even if you were given the handbook"

"Yeah? Challenge accepted"

North's laugh bellowed throughout the workshop, echoing and bouncing off the walls as some of the elves played with Jack's cape.
Sandy giggled as he made a show of raising his eyebrows and gestured towards said cape.
"I don't know where I got it. The day I woke up in the lake, I was already wearing it" Jack shrugged.

The cape itself was old, and it showed. The edges were worn and the leather straps looked to be holding on for dear life. Frost decorated the trim, following the patterns of the stitching in random swirls.

"Well, you look very regal with that cape on" Tooth smiled, Sandy nodding in agreement in the background.
"Da, except royalty usually wear shoes" North teased, chuckling lowly.
Jack chose to ignore the comment, not feeling up to arguing about why he wouldn't wear shoes. North would never let it go anyway, so instead he took a big breath in and gave a small, polite smile.

It was show time.

"Thank you Tooth, I appreciate the compliment"

You could've heard a pin drop

"Oh, this is gonna be fun" Bunny smirked.

He didn't show it on his face, but Jack was all the sudden a bit nervous. This was a challenge, a competition, and Jack would not back down without a fight.
But Bunny knew how to push his buttons.
So, with a steel resolve, Jack decided he would take the mature way out, the princely way, and just ignore the rabbit.

"So, your majesty, please indulge us. What does royalty do all day?" Tooth playfully asked, doing nothing to hide her amusement.
She had to admit, it was a rather random game, but she could play along. After all, if she was meant to start playing with the kids more often, she'd have to brush up on her imagination skills.
All four Guardians knew exactly what answer they would get.
Royalty attended parties all day and ate fancy meals and danced the night away.

"Good question Tooth. I'd say my day is mostly filled with strategic planning and conferences with the other kingdom's leaders."
North blinked and Sandy's eyes widened, "Uh, what?" Bunny hopped forward, "I bet the parties are really fun too? Ten bucks says ya trip over yer own feet"

Jack smiled, knowingly "Actually, Bunny, parties are few and far between. Only when a celebration is needed. A birthday or a coronation or any big announcement is really the only reason we would host." He watched as the Guardians' brains started to malfunction and continued on, "And a royal party isn't just eating and dancing. I typically spent most of my time standing on the front stage overseeing the guests. I was only allowed to partake when leading a dance or when requested by a member of the royal court."

Jack could tell the Guardians we're struggling to keep up, which only egged him on.

"And typically, a Prince doesn't eat from the guest buffet. He isn't allowed to eat before the ball, as that might ruin the look of his suit. But once the party is over and the last guest has left, then he can eat."
"Wow" North started, "Being Prince is not all is cracked up to be, no?"
Tooth spoke up, following North's lead, "Yeah, Jack, that sounds a little, uh-"
"Sad" Bunny finished bluntly
Jack shrugged, "It's the truth"

Silence followed. What were they supposed to say to that?
Taking the silence as the end of the conversation, Jack started to walk away, the elves following after his flowing cape.
The rest of the day was less eventful, with Jack continuing to play his role, the rest of the workshop moved on like any other day.
Save for the constant interrogation from Bunny and Tooth.

"What time do you wake up in the morning?"
"Depends on what my schedule looks like for the day. Typically around 6AM"
"Where's yer crown?"
"I only wear my crown when I have an audience. It's purely for aesthetic purposes"
"It must be pretty easy, what with having control over all the citizens in your kingdom"
"Actually, it's a lot more work than people realize. Paperwork, deadlines, meetings, conferences, agreements. It's more about helping keep the peace instead of using power"
"Ya must hate it then" Bunny smiled, "Hard work and deadlines and all that. No snowballs and fun times"
Jack nodded, knowingly "It's not the most exciting job in the world, but it's an important one"

Sandy cocked his head to the side as he heard Jacks passing response, he faced North with a mock serious expression and placed his hands on his hips.
"Da. Is weird to see Jack this serious"
A clock with a question mark beside it.
"No idea. You know Jack, could keep up act for days"

Sandy looked back at Jack, currently giving Tooth a crash course on how to curtsy.
A snowflake, a crown, and a check mark.
North furrowed his brow, also looking over at Jack "You think so?"
A shrug. Then a palm, as to say 'wait'. Sandy walked off, leaving North to continue watching Tooth stumble over her own feet.

Using his sand cloud to lift himself up to the higher shelves, Sandy quickly but carefully scanned over each title. He knew which book he was looking for, and he knew North had it, because he had seen it years ago.
Throwing the unwanted books into the pile on the floor–he'd clean them up later. He was on a mission right now–Sandy continued his search.
Finally, five shelves later, he found it.

'The Royal Reign and History of Hawthorne'

Turning to the F's, Sandy ran his finger down each name, looking for 'Frost'

'Fog'

'Foggosi'

'Frensia'

'Fronee'

'Frova'

'Funira'

'Furego'

Sandy frowned. No 'Frost'. Was he missing something? Or maybe he had been wrong?
Sandy chuckled at himself, or he was just being a complete idiot.
His name as a mortal obviously hadn't been Sandy, so why should he expect Jack's name to have been the same?
Bringing the book with him, Sandy made his way back to the conference room.

And for some reason, while he was gone, North had decided he needed to learn how to bow. Making for an amusing scene to come back to.
North fumbling over himself, trying not to fall with Bunny struggling to breathe on the side. Tooth and Jack attempting to help him balance while keeping their laughter back as well.
Ignoring the chaos in front of him, Sandy grabbed Jacks arm and pulled him to the side.

"Do you need something Sandy?"
Sandy nodded. He pointed at Jack, a question mark above his head.
"Wha–" Jack looked down at himself, "You have a question about my outfit?"
Sandy shook his head, pointed again, another question mark, then a shrug.
Jack smiled and looked to the side, "You have a question" he started, Sandy nodding,
"about…." Sandy nodded faster, pointing harder towards Jack. "Me?"

Sandy huffed, this wasn't working.
He looked around and pointed to Tooth. A tooth appearing above his head. Pointed to Bunny and an egg replaced the tooth. Pointed to North and a present appeared, then pointed to himself with a swirl of sand. Finally, he pointed to Jack showing a third question mark.
Sandy could see Jack slowly connecting the dots, "Oh. You…you want to know...me? Who I am?"
Sandy nodded, happy his friend finally got the message. "I'm Jackson Overland, Prince of Winter" he smiled.

Overland. Not Frost. Overland.

Leaving Jack to stand there in confusion, Sandy walked over to the center table and placed the book down, flipping through the pages once again. This time, scrolling through the O's.

'Osmona'

'Osin'

'Otai'

'Oumeji'

'Oval'

'Overland'

HA! Gotcha.

'Henry Overland (1675-1727)'

'Mary Overland (1680-1759)'

'Jackson Overland (1694-1708)'

'Emaline Overland (1700-1765)'

'Henry Overland, the Notable of Hawthorne, with his Mistress Mary Overland, oversaw proceedings in the town of Hawthorne during their reign of 79 years. Upon the death of Henry and Mary, Jackson Overland, the first born son, would take his rightful place as Nobleman. Unfortunately, the young Prince lost his life in 1708 at the age of 14. Henry and Mary's second child, Emaline Overland, takes the crown in place of her late brother. In 1995, a traveler, Thaddeus Burgess, built a placement in the town, and gave Hawthorne a chance to be seen. Having placed Hawthorne on the map, in 1998 Thaddeus Burgess renamed the town of Hawthorne 'Burgess' and named himself as the founder of the town'

Okay. Sandy hadn't known that. That kinda made him mad. The founder of Burgess was a fraud. He didn't even discover the town, merely stole it from the townspeople already living there.
Hurt feelings aside, Sandy had been right.
Jack really was royalty.
Having been immortal for so long had it's perks. Sandy knew more than any of the Guardians could fathom.

Now, the million dollar question. Should he tell Jack?

Of course, it was Jack's right to know who he really was. It would be such a jerk move to keep this kind of information from him.
But at the same time, this would give him such a big head.
Imagine the excuses he would try to pull knowing he was royalty by blood. Sandy rolled his eyes. He knew the right choice, he was just stalling.

Making his way back to the others, Sandy placed the book down on the floor, opened it up to the exact page he needed and sauntered over to Jack.
Without a warning, he tugged at Jack's cloak, pulling the boy off balance a bit.
"Sandy? What are you doing?"
No answer

He pointed to the book on the ground, then pointed to Jack, then back at the book.
Taking the hint, Jack kneeled down on one knee and started reading.
Sandy watched as Jack's eyes slowly widened as he continued to read and smiled softly when he noticed slight tears forming.
"Really?" Jack looked up at Sandy, hopefully.

Sandy nodded and smiled, proud he was able to help.
Bunny suddenly appeared at his side, "Watcha got there, Sandy?"
The Aussie picked the book off the floor, Jack not bothering to look up.

"Yer kiddin'"
"What's wrong Bunny?" Tooth flew over, with North by her side.
"The bloke, he's really. I don't believe it" he turned the pages towards the remaining two and let them read.
Tooth's hands flew to her mouth as North took a step back.
Jack hadn't gotten up yet. "Are you alright?" North asked

He nodded, silently, still wonderstruck.
Silence filled the room as the five spirits processed this new information
"Yer not gonna make us bow down to you every time you walk inta the room are ya?"

Tooth, North and Sandy looked over at Bunny, shocked that he would make such an inconsiderate comment at a time like this.
Jack's shoulders started to shake. He was crying.
"Oh, sweet tooth, he didn't mean it like that" Tooth started to console, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder.
She pulled back when she realized he was laughing.

"Bunny. You're so dumb" Jack laughed, standing up
"Now hold on–"
"Just cause I was right all along doesn't mean I'm gonna be a jerk about it"
He lifted his hands and un-clipped his cloak, "Being the Prince of Winter as Jack Frost is a better gig anyway, I don't think I'm suited for the royal life"
Placing his cloak on the table, Jack turned back towards his friends. "Besides, if I'm royalty, that means you guys are my Royal Court"

North laughed at this, "Indeed, and we shall be a great Courting"
"Does that mean I can eat yer food before ya. Ya know, to make sure it's not poisoned" Bunny smirked.
"Ha ha. Not how it works" Jack sarcastically smiled back.
"I'm glad I know how to curtsy now" Tooth giggled, flying around the room in excitement.

Sandy grinned as he let a subtle stream of sand decorate the room in celebration as Tooth flew around.
How could he have ever doubted Jack?

The boy was a prince after all.
