Summary: When the Company of Thorin Oakenshield were passing through Rivendell, Thorin's world is turned upside down when his One in the form of battle-weary and heart sore, Ruby Potter, daughter of James appears and starts protecting his kin. (Female Harry Potter/Thorin)
Chapter 1: My One, My Ruby
Thorin and his company were running from and battling orcs and wargs, when a flash of light enveloped the surrounding area, before it faded, revealing a beautiful woman. Before they could go to her aid, the woman took the vile creatures out before they could blink with a wide-ranged fire from her hand. They had never seen magic like this.
"Are you alright?" she asked in a strong, yet feminine voice. The way she carried herself, she was no stranger to battle.
"Yes. Thank you, my lady. You saved our lives," Gandalf said, smiling, but he could see that she did not trust him. He did not say anything about it, seeing as they have only just met.
"May I ask your name, my lady?" Thorin asked, making her green eyes lock onto his. He has never seen anyone with eyes the color of emerald, and hair red as flame.
"I am Ruby, daughter of James and Lily," she introduced herself. She knew that he was her soulmate. That Valar had told her that she would know who he was on sight.
"Beautiful name," he muttered softly to himself, but by the look in her eyes and the smile on her face, Ruby heard. Thorin knew this young woman was his One, when she brushed against him. His very being vibrated as though Mahal, himself, took a hammer to his chest.
"How did you come to be here?" Dwalin asked. "I had just won a battle in my world, but the cost was high. Everyone I cared about perished in the final battle. I had nothing left to live for. The Valar intervened, and sent me here, telling me that my soulmate will perish without me. After I settled my affairs, and packed my belongings and my family fortune, I came here," she explained, causing them to look down sadly. No one should suffer the loss of their friends and family.
"You have money?" Bilbo asked, not meaning to sound rude, and really, that question was stupid. She was wearing a floor-length gown made of the finest silk and lace in the perfect shade of Durin blue, with a dark blue, almost black velvet and lace cloak. Her hair was braided in an elegant up do with diamonds and sapphires through her hair.
"I come from wealth. Although, I was not raised with it. I never knew about it until I was seventeen summers old. Until then, I was led to believe that my trust vault was all that I had," she explained, her eyes flashing in barely concealed rage at what Dumbledore had hidden from her. She did not know that everyone in the Company backed away from her when her eyes flashed with rage, as Ruby reminded them so much of their leader. If anyone wondered when Thorin became smitten with the lass, it would be then. Dwarves, especially those of the Durin bloodline, valued strength above everything else.
"Where are your belongings?" Thorin asked, not wanting to think of his One not having anything on the road. There was no way that he would leave without her now that he had her. "In my world, with my magic, we're able to hide and conceal our belongings or weapons. To answer your question, my belongings are shrunk in the pocket of my cloak," she said, taking said cloak off revealing her sword. It was the Gryffindor sword. Godric Gryffindor had been the beginning of the Potter and Peverell bloodline's. Though, it was no longer poisonous. The Valar had removed it when they brought her into this world.
"Beautiful sword," Thorin and Fili breathed, stunned at the beauty of it. "It belonged to my ancestor. The beginning of my family bloodline. It is well over a thousand years old," she said, letting them see it.
"How is it so well-preserved?" Fili wondered. "Magic," was the cheeky reply. The elder dwarves were reminded strongly of the young ones, with that cheeky and mischievous response.
"How old are you, my lady?" Bilbo asked, receiving glares from everyone. In polite society, no one dared to ask a lady's age.
"I just turned twenty-five. A gift of the Valar though, my lifespan will change to that of my soulmate, so he does not have to outlive me," Ruby explained, causing Thorin to breathe a sigh of relief. "Although, in my world, wizards and witches lived until they were well into their hundreds, if they were lucky, more," she explained. Sensing something amiss, Ruby tensed, turning towards an opening behind Thorin's head, and before he knew what was happening, she had thrown a dagger, killing the warg.
"We need to go," she said, causing everyone to run. "Why don't you just use your magic?" Bifur asked.
"Because, I can only do magic as much as my body can allow. I have to sleep before I can use that kind of magic again," she explained, not knowing that she just caused Thorin to become worried, he had thought that his Ruby would be able to use her magic whenever and however she could. Now he knew that was not the case.
"Where is Gandalf?" Bilbo asked. "He has abandoned us," Dwalin said, angrily. How dare that wizard leave them in the middle of battle.
"This way, you fools!" he exclaimed from behind a stone, causing everyone to run towards him. "Kili!" Thorin exclaimed when a warg almost took his nephew's arm, Ruby, hearing the panic in his voice, summoned Kili to her, not knowing that his weight would cause her to fly back into the cave, causing her ribs to crack.
"Are you alright?" Bofur asked, panicked when he heard Ruby groan in pain, and her breath rattled, causing Oin to run towards her. "She fractured her ribs," he announced after he examined her.
"My bag. Look inside, and grab the potions labeled pain potions. Until we can get to a place of healing, I cannot heal them without them being put back in place," she explained, causing them to look at her in shock that she was awake enough to tell them what she needed. Before too long, they discovered weapons, and were led into Rivendell. Thorin did not want to be here, but his One needed help and the map needed to be read.
There was no other way around it.
