Chapter 1: Isabella FieryHeart
Isabella was drawn out of her forge just outside of her home when she heard a group of people running, and it didn't take her long to understand why they were running as she heard the sounds of orcs and wargs. Her instincts told her that she needed to save them. She had a feeling that the people who were running, had an important quest.
She ran back into her forge to grab her sword and axe, along with a belt full of daggers. When she runs back outside, the last warg had just passed her home. She runs and jumps on the beast's back driving her sword into its spine, as it goes down she stands on its back and leaps off dragging her sword out as she goes. She throws her axe at the orc in front of her and embeds it into the skull of the orc, its warg turns, and she throws two daggers into its eyes blinding it, and as she runs by slices at its neck killing the creature. As she runs, she sinks two more daggers into the kneck of another orc, grabs her axe out of the orc's skull, and brings the blade of it down on the warg that just turned on her, taking its head clean off. The riderless wargs are easy to take out her blade and axe, finding spines and necks with practiced ease. The wargs with riders require more finesse with carefully thrown daggers to take out the riders, and then the wargs turn their attention to her as she twirls her sword and axe in tandem, slicing necks and severing spines. A few orcs realize the threat to them and dismount, engaging in combat, they get lucky slices here and there, but none were deadly. At the end of it all, she stands in the middle of the dead covered in blood, and breathing hard.
The company couldn't believe what they had just witnessed. They were trying to get away from the abominations when a dam seemed to have appeared out of nowhere and killed the creatures before they could draw a weapon.
"Is everyone alright?" she asked, turning towards them as she beheaded the last warg and going around collecting her weapons as she went.
"Yes. Thank you for helping us," Gandalf said.
"Do you have any injures?" she asked, turning towards Thorin and his nephews.
"No," they answered before they were led towards Isabella's home.
"May I ask how long have you lived here?" Thorin asked the dam.
"I was settled in Lord Dain's mountain, but after the death of my parents, I wandered around until I settled here just a few years ago. I had just come of age when I settled here," she explained.
"You were a babe! What in Mahal's name were you doing alone?!" Dwalin exclaimed angrily.
"I felt drawn here. Lord Elrond, had saved both my mother and me in birthing. He was named kin for saving our lives. He was named my Godfather, and he makes sure that I am taken care of and that I have everything that I need," she said before continuing. "Not every elf is as selfish as Thranduil," she said as she motioned them to enter her home. It was built into the side of a mountain.
"I suppose," Thorin muttered before noticing his nephews had yet to say anything, turning towards them, he saw that they were staring at the Dam in amazement and love. He and Dis had known for quite some time that they would share a One, as their souls were two halves of a whole. Looks like the dam was his nephew's One.
"What is your name?" Gloin asked.
"I am Isabella. Lord Dain's sister was my mother. But you may know me as FieryHeart," she said, watching their reactions.
"You take out anyone that so much as harms a child. You are the one who sent me a notice of the Master of Laketown abusing his position, causing children to suffer," Thorin said.
"Yes. My Godchild lives in that town. The Master and his minions were tossed out after they were involved in selling children to slavers," she explained. The Company stayed well into the day before Isabella asked what they were doing this close to Rivendell.
"We are reclaiming our home. Our people will not survive much longer in the Blue Mountains," Thorin said, watching her eyes sharpen.
"Erebor. There is a dragon. You will risk the lives of the free people of Middle Earth for gold," she asked with rage in her voice. "I may be a Dwarrowdam, but I would never do something so reckless," she said, causing everyone to lower their heads in shame. Fili and Kili especially couldn't help but feel the pain in their hearts at the rage and disappointment in their One's tone.
"But, seeing as I receive foresight from the Valor, I know that this quest is important seeing as Erebor provides a stronghold between the kingdoms of Middle Earth and Mordor. I will help you in any way that I can," Isabella promised before standing and making her way to the armory, with the Company following closely behind. They were amazed. "Now, tell me why you have a hobbit in your Company that still has yet to be taught how to wield that letter opener," she requested as she motioned for them to restock their weapons.
Having their failure pointed out like that was a blow to their pride, but they couldn't deny that it was well deserved. Bilbo was part of the Company and needed to know how to defend himself. Dwalin took it the hardest, seeing as he trained Fili and Kili, but failed to teach the smallest member of the Company.
"Master Baggins, please come outside with me and I will start teaching you what you need to know," Isabella said as she guided him outside into the field, and she could see that he was stunned that she knew his name. "Now, Master Baggins, let's start with your footing and test your grip," she instructed, smirking at the hobbit's flabbergasted face.
Bilbo quickly took a stance before he found himself toppling over. "What was that for?"
"That is me testing your stance, now do it differently, keep doing it till I cannot push you over so easily," she replied simply, watching as the hobbit took stance once again before pushing him over. "Again Bilbo!"
They practiced for hours, with the Company joining in on the training, anything to have the upper hand, and soon, Bilbo found himself standing strong as Isabella tried to push him over. A wide grin broke out on his face as he memorized the stance.
"Good, now Bilbo draw your sword and grip it like you normally do," she instructed, eyes slipping to the Company. "Daggers too if you want to learn the proper grip. Hold it up in a defensive position, hold one lower, yes like that,"
Bilbo complied easily and waited as she ran her eyes over him critically. She did not look pleased nor did she look disappointed, it made him worry. "Bilbo, you are holding it all wrong, look," she stated before slamming her dagger down on his guard, brows rising as the sword clattered to the ground.
"You're choking the sword; you need to hold it like this…" She instructed, picking up the blade and carefully moving Bilbo's hand into the right position. "Now lock your wrist and hold it up again,"
He did what was instructed and cringed as her blade connected with his, sending a shockwave up his arm, and yet it did not tumble to the ground. He stared at the sword still in his hands with wide, shocked eyes, causing her to laugh. "Good Bilbo, good. That is all for today. We will do a little more each day until you master the sword," she proudly said, causing him to beam as the Company looked on shocked as he picked up everything so quickly.
