Khan was in his apartment which was now almost empty. Everything he had he's sold to try different operations to fix his hands but nothing has worked. He was washing his quivering hands. Later he was struggling to write a letter when someone spoke to him over the phone "I looked at all you research I-I read all the papers you've sent. It's not going to work. I… don't think you realise how severe the damages are. The best have tried and failed". Khan sighed "I understand. Here's the thing I-" "What you want from me is impossible, Khan. I've got my own reputation to consider" "No, come on. Wait" "I'm sorry" he hung up. Khan slams his hands against the table and pushes his paper off. Sharp pain immediately went through his hands and he rested them on the table trying to ignore it. He stares grimly ahead when Perci enters "Hey". She sees the look on his face "He won't do it" "He's a hack. But I've got something else. There is a new procedure in Tokyo. They culture donor stem cells and then harvesting them and then 3D printing a scaffold. I just need a small loan, just 200,000 rings". Perci sighed "Khan. You've always spent money as fast as you could make it but now, you're spending money you don't even have. Maybe it's time to consider stopping".
Khan erratically shook his head and stood up "No, now is exactly the time not to stop because, you see, I'm not getting any better!" "But this isn't medicine anymore. This is mania. Some things just can't be fixed". Khan sighed and turned to the window "Life without my work-" "Is still life. This isn't the end. There are other things that can give your life meaning". He angrily turned to her "Like what? You?". She stares at him looking hurt "This is the part where you apologize" "This is the part where you leave" "Fine. I can't watch you do this to yourself anymore" she starts to leave. Khan scoffed "Oh, too difficult for you, is it?". Perci turned back to him "Yes. Yes, it is. It breaks my heart to see you this way". Khan pointed at her "No, don't pity me" "I'm not pitying you" "Oh, yeah? Then what are you doing here? Bringing cheese and wine like we're old friends going for a picnic? We are not friends, Perci. We were barely lovers. But you just love a sob story, don't you? Is that what I am to you now? 'Poor Monkey Khan, charity case. He finally needs me. Another dreg of humanity for you to work on. Patch him up and send him back into the world heart's just humming'. You care SO MUCH, DON'T YOU!?" he yelled. She stares at him for a moment before looking away "Goodbye, Khan" she leaves. Khan walks back to the window and steps over the piece of paper which had his name written multiple times in shaky erratic handwriting. He leans against the window taking a deep breath when he glances down at the floor. He saw an envelope he must have knocked over. He picked it up and opened it to find a file. He opens it and finds a handwritten note that says "Told you so!".
The next day Khan, wearing a hoodie walks to an outside basketball court where a yellow mobian with a white beard and a cowboy hat was playing "Cliff Thornton. C7-C8 spinal cord injury, complete". Cliff stares at him confused "Who are you?" "Paralyzed from the mid-chest down. Partial paralysis in both hands". This didn't help "I don't know you" "I'm Monkey Khan. I'm… I was a neurosurgeon". Cliff scoffed "Actually, you know what, I do know you. I came to your office once. You refused to see me. I never got past your assistant" "You were untreatable" "No glory for you in that, right?". Cliff turned away but "You came back from a place there's no way back from. I-I'm trying to find my own way back". Cliff turns back and sees Khan's scarred hands. He walks back "Alright. I'd given up on my body. I thought my mind's the only thing I have left I should at least try to elevate that. So, I sat with gurus and sacred woman. Strangers carried me to mountaintops to see holy men and finally I found my teacher. And my mind was elevated and my spirit deepened. And somehow-". Khan stepped closer to him "Your body healed" "Yes. There were deeper secrets to learn there, but I didn't have the strength to receive them. I chose to settle for my miracle, and I came back home. The place you're looking for will seem like a closed coffee bar called the Groovy Train. It's in Dream Valley. But the cost there is high" "How much?". Cliff rolled his eyes "I'm not talking about money. Good luck" he walked back to his game.
After scouring together everything he had left Khan managed to get a flight and was now walking through the city of Dream Valley. He carried a backpack and wore a large jacket. He spoke to a man who told him where to find Groovy Train. He kept walking starting to feel tired. He kept asking people which seemed to get the attention of a hooded woman.
Khan walked through an alley checking his map when he saw a Mobani dog with a broken front left leg. Khan walked past it but he heard it whimper. He then stopped and sighed. He turned around and kneeled down "Hey" he said softly. The dog limped over to him. Khan petted it a few times to keep it calm before he examined his leg as the dog whimpered "Oh, look at you. I've got a friend who goes for your type". He took two sticks from a box as the dog whimpered again. Khan jokingly rolled his eyes "Alright. Quit whining. You'll be fine". He wrapped some bandages around the leg keeping the two sticks in place. The dog put the foot down and held up the other one. Khan held it "Oh, yeah. You're shaking my hand now? Wait till you get the bill. How's your insurance, huh?". The dog walked away; Khan stood up but then realised four men have surrounded him. Khan stopped and raised his hands "Look, guys, I don't have any money". A bird stepped forward and pointed at the headband Khan was wearing "That" "No, please. It's all I have left" he begged. The four of them stepped closer, Khan sighed "Alright" he threw a punch at the bird. It knocked him back but a sharp pain went up Khans hand "Ah!". The four men started beating him up. One of them takes the headband but the hooded woman appears and stops them. She fights three of them off and the final one quickly bolts. The woman helps Khan up and gives him back his headband. She removes her hood, she looked human but with pointy ears. She had magenta coloured hair and wore a purple cloak "You're looking for the Groovy Train". Khan nods looking hopeful, the woman nods back "I am Merlina. Follow".
