Yellowtooth reopened her eyes, only to find herself in the nursery.
Huh? Why in StarClan am I here?
Then the events of yesterday, or whenever the wishing thing happened crashed onto her. No way, she thought It worked! I'm a kit! But who's my mother? She glanced next to her. Curled up around her was a familiar silver she-cat.
No way. I was reborn as my sister's kit? Do I have any siblings? She looked around again. There seemed to be nobody in the nest beside her and her sister/mother. She looked down.
Wow! My pelt's beautiful! And surprisingly silky and sleek for a kit. She also noticed, I'm pretty small, and I have a plumy tail! Just what I wanted. She sent a silent prayer to Silverpool, but then with a pang realized the silver cat was nonexistent now. I'll become the best warrior in the world like I promised. After I sleep, I'm a little tired."
Yellowtooth closed her eyes and slept.
When she next woke, she saw Darkstar hovering over her. What did I do wrong? She frantically wracked her mind for a mistake.
Wait, he's my father. She inwardly sighed. This is going to take some time to get used to.
"She's beautiful!" Darkstar exclaimed. "And she has your eyes, Frostflower!
"I know right", Frostflower purred, "And she has such a silky white pelt. What should we name her?"
"What about Whitekit?" Darkstar suggested.
"Well… that's kind of plain for such an elegant kit. What about Snowkit?"
"Perfect!" Darkstar purred, curling up around the family.
"Where's Yellowtooth, by the way? I want her to meet her niece." Frostflower asked.
Yeah probably to brag to me about well, me. But what did happen to the old me? Snowkit wondered with her eyes closed.
Darkstar stiffened.
"Darkstar? What's wrong?" Frostflower mewed concernedly.
"I really didn't want to tell you, since you just gave birth and it would stress you, but Yellowtooth disappeared. I sent out patrols but we couldn't find her scent anywhere because of the recent rain."
"WHAT? She's gone?" Frostflower sat up suddenly, and Snowkit opened her eyes, surprised at the sadness and shock pouring from Frostflower.
I thought she didn't care about me…
"Shh…" Darkstar mewed soothingly, "It's okay… Yellowtooth hated walking in the rain, she probably found shelter and is returning to camp right now!"
Snowkit bristled inwardly. That's a lie and you know it! I was perfectly fine with walking in the rain. You just want Frostflower to calm down and stop fretting about the old me!" Even though she was furious on the inside, on the outside she maintained an elegant sleeping posture. At least he loves the new me.
"You're right, she's probably coming home now. She'll be here any moment now." Frostflower mewed, her fur smoothing down. Her eyes, though, remained panicked.
Wow, you'd think being a mother would make you smarter.
Welp, time to give my new parents a nice impression.
Snowkit opened her different colored eyes.
"Mother? Father?" She mewed, her voice musical and sweet.
Wow, my voice is beautiful! It doesn't even squeak like a kit's!
"Yes, my precious little Snowkit?" Her mother purred.
Time to put on some honey.
"Wow, Mother, you're so beautiful! And Father, you look so strong! I want to be like both of you when I grow up! Wait a second…" Snowkit sniffed at the air. There's another kit, and it smells like Frostflower! "Do I have a sibling?"
Frostflower answered, "Actually, yes you do, you have an older sibling."
She shifted to show another kit.
Snowkit studied the kit. It had short brown fur. They were medium sized (bigger than her), but their paws were slightly out of proportion, they were big.
The kit opened her eyes, which were bright blue like Darkstar's.
Snowkit thought darkly on the inside, I guess the new me has competition. I still want to be nice, I am nice! But I am so tired of being shunted to the side, and I'm not going to let that happen again! I'll just make sure to be better than my new sister, but I still want to be good friends with her!
Darkstar purred happily, "She has my eyes!"
Snowkit felt jealousy coursing through her veins. She tried not to show it.
"Father, I also have one of your eyes!"
That was true. Her blue eye was a replica of Darkstar's eyes.
"Of course, of course, I know sweetheart, your eyes are very beautiful!" Darkstar mewed soothingly.
"Anyway…what should we name her?" Frostflower asked.
"What about Skykit, for her blue eyes?"
"Perfect!"
A blue-gray tabby poked his head into the den.
"Darkstar, I need to speak to you."
"Alright, coming Stonefoot", Darkstar replied, sending a loving look at his new family.
"Bye Frostflower, Snowkit, and Skykit!"
Darkstar ducked out of the nursery.
Stonefoot, our deputy. I remember just yesterday he was snapping at me to go hunt. I wonder what he is talking to Darkstar about.
Frostflower curled around her two newborn daughters.
With her eyes closed, Snowkit was wondering about what to call Frostflower and Darkstar.
I will always think of them as just Frostflower and Darkstar, but out loud I'll call them Mother and Father. I'll have no trouble calling Skykit my sister though, it just feels right.
Snowkit snuggled into Frostflower's fur and fell asleep.
