Chapter 1: A Fool's Pride (2/3)

"Should I wake him up?" Alan asked his father?

Bruce and Alan Wayne are currently in the apartment where the sniper was positioned in. Alan tied him up on a chair and blindfolded him, and stayed put until his father arrived.

Bruce had to excuse himself from Harvey and the police in order to meet Alan on the apartment. Although, the police are still in front of the building investigating where the shoot came from.

Luckily, no one from the apartment said anything about the noise. Which Bruce theorized that gunshots are heard with frequency on this building.

Bruce would rather interrogate him on a better location, like the Batcave, but transporting him now was not a possibility at the moment.

"Do it." Bruce ordered Alan.

Alan grabbed the half empty bottle of Whiskey that he used to knock him out and dumped the rest of it on his head. It quickly woke him up.

"AH! What?!" As soon as the man regained his consciousness, he tried to break free. "Let me out!"

"Quiet!" Bruce quickly spoke with a very intimidating voice.

"What?! W-who are you?!" The man asked desperately as he couldn't see anything due to the blindfold that Alan put on him.

"I'm Batman." Bruce spoke with his Batman voice.

"Oh god! Please, I didn't want to do this!" The man spoke desperately.

"Then why did you?" Batman asked the man.

"I-I got several debts on a Shady Lady Casino, t-th-they said that my debts would be forgotten if I did this." The man answered while stuttering nervously.

That explains it, he's not a shooter, just a idiot that doesn't know when to stop playing. But why would someone use a amateur to do something like this. Alan thought in genuine curiosity.

"Who are they?" Batman asked another question.

"S-some guy with a black suit," He answered.

Suddenly, Alan decides to activate his detective vision in order to check his pulse as it could facilitate in knowing if he was lying or telling the truth. But the moment he did, he noticed something on the floor below. Five guys, armed, making their way to the floor that they were in

"Five guys, this way, armed, two minutes and thirty seconds." Robin informed Batman. His father didn't even flinch at what Alan just said. Did he knew already? Alan asked himself.

"Wait, what! Oh, god! Plea-" The man desperately tried to tak but was interrupted.

"There's a broom in the bedroom, grab it and prepare yourself." His father ordered Alan. "You'll be quiet unless you want to be harmed." He told the men, who quickly shut up.

There was no time to question, so Alan just obeyed him. He made his way to the Bedroom, and there was indeed a broom in it. He detached the top of the broom in order to make a improvised staff. Seeing through his detective vision, so he could see what he was up against. Three of them were carrying M16A2 and two were carrying Glock G17. His father took a piece of cloth and used to make and improvise mask, then he hid on the kitchen for a surprise attack. Alan on the other hand, went to the only entrance and exit of the room and performed a wall run on the narrow corridor and perform a split leg maneuver, to keep himself supported right above the door.

A few seconds pass, until the group enters the room. Five men entered the room, they were all using the same outfit, which were black suits but with different colored tie. What stood out the most about this group however, was their masks. They were identical to Black Mask's but they were gray in color.

I hate that mask. Alan thought as he prepared himself to attack.

Once they were all inside, Alan came down from the top swinging his improvised staff downward, which landed perfectly at the top of the head of the fifth men of the group. Suddenly they all turned around in order to shoot Alan, but his father was quicker. He came out of his hidden spot and quickly knockout the first men with a right elbow to his jaw before quickly disarming the second men and smacking his face with his gun, which broke the mask that he was wearing. Alan then attacked the fourth man by hitting him on the stomach with the tip of the improvised staff and swinging at his hand which landed on his gun, making it drop from his hand, before swinging rightward very hard at his jaw, which both broke the staff and the man's mask. Only the third one was left, he quickly pointed his M16A2 at Alan, who tossed the broken staff at the man's face, which he managed to dodge. But that wasn't meant to hurt him, it was meant to distract him so his father could close the distance. His father quickly grabbed him, pushed him into the ground, pulled the gun off his hand and put him in a arm lock.

"Where's Black Mask?" His father asked after pulling the man's mask off and putting pressure on the man's arm.

"AAAAHHHHH!" The man yelled in pain. "I don't know!"

As his father interrogated the man, Alan went on and decided to unmask the rest of them and use his detective vision to identify them. None of them had anything really worth noting on their profiles. But managed to find one thing in common about them. "Batman." He called his father.

"Find anything?" He asked him.

"All of them have recently been hired as private security for the The Gotham Royal Hotel." Alan explained to him. "Is he really hiding there again?"

Some years ago, Batman managed to caught an operation of weapons contraband lead by Black Mask who turned the Royal Hotel into a fortress for his scheme. Luckily, Batman managed to put an end to it, thanks to the help of a janitor who informed the GCPD of the crime taking place there. Although, Black Mask managed to escape.

His father then turned his attention to the man again. "Answer or I'll break your arm, is Black Mask on the Royal Hotel?" He questions him as he out even more pressure on his arm.

"AAAAAHHHHHHH! No!" The man yelled. "We weren't sent by Black Mask!"

Both Father and Son were surprised by that answer. Although he could be lying, "Then who did?" Alan asked him this time.

"M-mayor Hill." Both made surprised expressions. "H-he payed us to start a shootout in case of that guy failing." He was referring to the amateur sniper tied to the chair.

Suddenly, his father dislocates the man's shoulder. "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" The man screamed in agony while holding his arm in pain. "Let's go, grab the key to the room and lock the door." His father ordered. "I'll tell Gordon to pick them up."

Both Alan and his father managed to exit the building and get to the car without attracting attention. They quickly made their way back to the Manor.

"So, this is all Hill's scheme to get rid of the competition?" Alan asked as he exits the car.

"No, I don't think so." His father replied. "There's something else going on."

Both made their way inside the Manor. Where Alfred was to greet them.

"Good evening." Alfred greeted them.

"Good evening," Alan greeted back. "Could you please bring me a cup of your delicious tea?" He requested.

"Right way, Master Alan." Alfred was quick to attend his request.

"I'll be at the cave, come meet me when it gets dark." His father told him as he made his way to the entrance of the Batcave.

"Okay." Alan replied as he made his way to his room.

It was only going to get dark in a few hours. So Alan had some free time until then. He decided to spend them in his room. He climbed the stairs of the manor to reach the floor above and passed through a few corridors until he reached his room.

Alan's room was relatively large, clean and organized. There was several painting on the walls, very expensive Greek mythology paintings that his father brought for him. Bookshelves filled with classic literature. A King sized bed with a large TV in front of it and two drawers on each side, with the one on the right side having a lamp on top of it and the one on the right having a jar filled with dry roasted peanuts that Alan liked. Near one of the windows that showed Gotham City from a distance, there was a violin.

As soon as he entered, he removed the clothes that he was wearing in order to put on more comfortable clothes. Which was basically gray sweatpants and a black long sleeved T-shirt. He folded the clothes that he was wearing and put on top of his bed. Before walking to the window and watching the city from a afar. He grabbed his violin and decided to play for a bit. The song Clair De Lune, to be more precise.

I wonder what exactly is going on, is my theory that Mayor Hill did this to get rid of competition correct? Or there's more to this as father suggested? Alan wondered as he played the violin perfectly. Blackmask is definitely involved, is Hill and Blackmask working together? If yes, what exactly does Blackmask hope to gain in all of this?

Alan kept on playing while analyzing the situation properly. Until he heard steps. "Thanks for the tea."

"You skills with the violin are pretty remarkable for someone who doesn't play very often." Alfred, who brought in the tea that Alan requested, commented.

"I only play when I need to think." Alan replied as he put the violin down. "The sound helps me focus."

"A good melody always calms the mind."

Alan grabbed the tea and took a sip of it. It was a very delicious red tea, that Alan adores. After drinking it, he asked Alfred a question. "Do you think Harvey Dent is actually a good choice for a Mayor?"

"Mr. Dent has a very good reputation, but more often than not, reputations don't really show a man's true face." Alfred replied to Alan.

Alan drank more tea before replying. "I just hope that whatever is Harvey Dent's true face, doesn't bring us more trouble if he does become Mayor."

"That's makes the two of us." Alfred added.

Alan then finished his tea, before giving the cup back to Alfred. "What is he doing on the cave?"

"I'm not sure, but I better bring him something to eat." Alfred replied, before bowing to Alan and leaving his room.

Now alone in his room, Alan decided to go the bathroom to wash his face. As he entered, he took a good look and the mirror. Same height, frame and jaw as Clark. He thought bitterly. Same cheeks, ears and nose as mother. He thought proudly. Same eyes, hair and chin as father. Alan was mostly analyzing his appearance in the mirror, checking which of features matched who, as it was becoming more prominent each day. He then grabbed some hair product to slick back his hair again. As he only accepted his hair to be messy when he was being Robin. Though his hair was black and straight like his father's, Alan's hair is smoother, shinier and silkier, like his mother's.

He left the bathroom after fixing his hair and went to sit on his bed. Turning on the TV while he's at it. "Police still has no clue or leads on the location of Gilda Grace, the ex wife of the candidate for Mayor, Harvey Dent. Mr. Dent gave no opinions on the situation or made any comments on his assassination attempt during today's speech."

There's no way that her disappearance is a coincidence. Father and I will definitely have to investigate this later. Alan concluded.

Suddenly, he sees Mayor Hill on the news. "I am completely shocked of today's events and I offer my condolences and my support to Mr. Dent in this difficult situation as I-" Alan couldn't hear the rest and decided to turn off the TV. I guess Gordon didn't got a confession out of those man that we gave it to him. He thought in annoyance.

"Enough of this." Alan spoke out loud. As he decided to not wait anymore and join his father in the Bat-Cave to know how they will proceed with this situation.
