CHAPTER SIX - MULDOON, PARTY OF TWO

"Oh Mona, what did I do to deserve you back in my life," asked Max as he nuzzled at Mona's neck as she lay in his arms.

"I feel the same way about you Darling," answered Mona as she reached up and held Max's cheeks and kissed him.

Max and Mona were having a private brunch on Max's yacht docked at Pier 61. Kathryn Ann was with her mother's family for the weekend. After being separated for nearly four years, Max and Mona bumped into one another at a social event a few months back. This gala was right before Mona went to visit Angela and Tony in Iowa for the Championship game. Before they knew it, sparks flew, they abandoned their dates, and they ended up spending the night together. They've been inseparable ever since. Mona feels overjoyed to have reunited with Max. She finally put the Senator down!

Even though Mona is so happy, she's careful about boasting in her joy since Angela is so miserable these days. Mona just can't bring herself to tell Angela about her second chance at love, seeing how inconsolable Angela is after breaking it off with Tony. Max has been so patient and understanding about the whole matter. He's heartbroken for them because even he saw all those years ago that they were more than boss & employee. He knows how much they both deserve to be loved by the other.

"Mona how was Angela this morning," Max asked in a voice of concern?

"She's the same Honey. Just very love sick and fighting through. I don't know how long this will last. I really am trying to be patient with her and give her space. As much as I love Tony, I can't believe they let this happen to themselves. I mean, I told her she wasn't happy and to look at coming home to her own life. I never told her to break it off with him. I believe she panicked when his boss offered him that three-year contract. She loved him so much, she didn't want him to not have a meaningful career. It's because Angela has always identified her success with her accomplishments, her education, her career. Not necessary her relationships. I mean, she knew she couldn't stay any longer in Iowa. My god if you could have saw what Iowa did to my Baby, she looked like a KMART ad model. I still can't believe she sacrificed her love for him, and broke it all off. And worst off, Tony let her," said Mona in dismay shaking her head and staring out of the master bedroom's window box.

"Oh Mona," said Max stroking her back. as he kissed her forehead. "I don't believe its over for those two. A love like theirs is so rare. It's like they survive off the other's presence. From what you said Angela's state is, Tony has to be experiencing the same thing. I almost want to go to Iowa myself and tell him to get it together, and come get his woman," cried Max as he pounded the air with his fist.

"Ohhh, like you did Sweetheart," asked Mona in a cynical yet non condescending way? "Tony would definitely remember him having to come get you together, with Angela I might add, when you broke off our first sailing weekend getaway. Oh, and how you broke up with me at the restaurant. No call, no visit, no gifts, no nothing, just gave me back my key! It was a double whammy too cause Sam and Jesse broke up at the same time. Tony had to deal with my heartache, and hers, well he and Angela. It was brutal for him," said Mona staring into Max's eyes with a pouty face.

"I know. I remember Darling. I just didn't know I could come back after you the night we broke up. I was a fool to ever let you go. I have regretted letting you go and missed you terribly. I know that my choice wasn't good for Kathryn Ann either. She was still a baby when we broke up, and she could've benefited from your motherly wisdom. I was too proud and stubborn to come after you, after what I said, I really didn't mean it. I was just angry. We had that stupid fight. You were such a fire cracker; I couldn't handle you. But I will never make that mistake again. I learned my lesson. If we fight, I'm sticking around to make-up," Max exclaimed!

"We'll I can see why you're so successful in business, you're definitely not a slow learner, Max Darling," teased Mona.

"That's right Mona. It only takes me one time to learn my lesson and correct things. And that's kinda why I feel like I owe it to Tony and Angela to intervene and try to bring them back to their senses so they can get back together. Like they came after me about you. They busted in my apartment ready to rake me over a bed of hot coals! I'm so glad they came; I never would have been able to love such a beautiful woman or have such a beautiful woman love me and my daughter," gushed Max as he leaned in and kissed Mona's lips.

"On second thought, just maybe, it's just best to leave well enough alone. My grandmother always would say that if you love something or someone, you let them or it go, and they or it will always return back to you. You coming back in my life is proof enough for me and I'm sure it will happen for them. We'll just stay hopeful and positive. But if you want me to talk to Tony, I'll be happy to head out to Iowa," Max offered.

A crimson flushing took over Mona's sun kissed face. To hear Max so apologetic and willing to jump in and try to steer Tony and Angela straight, was so touching to her. She knew that she saw sparks of Robert in Max from the moment she laid eyes on him! As he was sitting there in the living room, listening to Angela's boring presentation all those years ago. It really was like Robert listing to Angela go on and on. That's probably would made her seduce him. Max is the only man, that has ever held a candle to Robert. That's why Mona is glad to have another chance with him. She's gotten tired of the lames she's been playing the field with. She's looking for more of a stable companion, not to a spouse, and Max is the perfect guy. She adores Kathryn Ann and Max adores all her kids, including the absent one!

"What a sweet and considerate man you are Max Muldoon. That's why I just adore you. Your heart is so big. But these two have to figure this out on their own. Trust me, I would have flown to Iowa if I thought it would help. I'm hopeful in my heart that they'll find their way back to each other before they die of grief, or make the rest of us eternally sick. It's starting to have an effect on the kids too," Mona said in concern.

"Don't worry Mona, everything will work out in the end. Love always wins! We're proof, aren't we," Max ascribed.

"Yeah, we are, you Big Lug! The proofs in the pudding," agreed Mona as she passionately kissed Max's lips. Max didn't hold back. He pulled Mona in closer to him, as he deepened the kiss.

"Mmm, that was nice," relished Max. "Now my Darling. I have a surprise for you. Since you got away for the weekend, I will be taking you up to a lovely Bed & Breakfast near Mystic's seaport harbor. I've made all the reservations and everything is all set. That's why I gave you that list of things to pack, so you'd be prepared. I hope you followed it precisely," said Max.

"I don't particularly care for surprises, or a "Honey-Do List", but a weekend alone at a Bed & Breakfast does sound delightful, especially since I'll be sharing it with you," said a smiling Mona.

"We do need some secluded time alone. All this running around has been exhausting. I just can't thank you enough for being patient with me as I've been caring for Angela these past couple of months. From the time we reconnected, I went to Iowa, shit hit the fan with Tony and Angela's relationship, and we all ended up back here devastated. Leaving our time together more limited than I anticipated. I thought I'd come right back to you after going to Iowa for a week. You've been a trooper and I promise to make it worth your while this weekend, Sweetheart," assured Mona.

"You made it up really nice to me this morning," said Max. "Babe, when you said we were having sex for breakfast, I thought that was some hip name for a new breakfast cuisine.

"Was I not delightfully edible to your satisfaction Mr. Muldoon," inquired a gutsy Mona, while shaking her plentiful bosom in Max's face?

"Don't do that Mona. I won't be able to contain myself if you start back up. Which means we'll never get up to Mystic. But don't ever doubt who you have become to me. You're simply the most delicious red candy apple of my eye, Sweetie. Every time I hear, touch, see, smell, and taste you; I'm satisfied in ways I've never imagined. Mona, I simply can't get enough of you. You're the fire cracker I love to set off and behold the display," Max professed, motorboating her breasts.

With a gigantic and playful laugh, Mona tossed her head back and enjoyed the attention that Max was friskily giving her. "You know Max, this firecracker loves to burn. And when I burn, I don't hold back on the enthusiasm in my show. Keep talking dirty to me, Sailor Boy, and see where it gets you," dared Mona, stroking her hands through Max's silver tresses, while nuzzling his neck.

"I'm not setting off all my fireworks this morning. I've got some pretty nasty things saved for our little excursion. I'm looking forward to every explosion," doated Max.

"I promise to be worth the wait, ha, ha! Oh, I can't wait. I haven't been to Mystic's seaport harbor in ages. I hear they've done such wonderful things to make it more tourist like. I am really looking forward to going, but mostly being with you, Darling," said Mona as she kissed Max.
