AU. This is a different world where Luffy didn't grow up in the mountains and meet Ace and Sabo. He grew up in Marineford and is aged up a few years, though younger than Lucci. Can be read as a one-shot.

6. Joining the Marine Ranks

Marineford Days ~ age 17

"Oi jiji, do I really have to join the new recruits? I've been here for years, I'll wipe the floor with them," whined Luffy.

"Munch, technically, munch, you would be joining the marines at 17, munch, that is the legal minimum age. You were a special case, so now we gotta enter you into the books, munch" Garp said while eating his crackers.

"Special case my ass, those Cipher Pol recruits look reaalll young to me," Lu muttered under his breath.

"Ehh, what was that? Listen Luffy, it's time to step up, you won't be with them for long. Just long enough to scope out the talent and make some friends your own age. Soon, you will join the ranks and have to mingle with others Lu. These are the Marines you'll be leading on a ship one day, so take this seriously. Make me proud, boy," Garp said, slapping Luffy hard on his shoulders.

Luffy groaned and turned his eyes forward once again.
