Okay I would just like to take the time to thank everyone who has reviewed/favorited/followed this story!
The next day, the castle was still a buzz with the Gryffindor victory and Harry's Firebolt. The other house teams and the older students were jealous that Gryffindor would easily win the cup, and the younger students were simply in awe of the broom. Other topics were scarcely talked about, which was surprising for the gossip mill at Hogwarts.
Before dinner I had been attempting to study in the library, but decided the distractions weren't going to end any time soon. Slytherin harassment and other's praises were getting in the way of my concentration for homework. So after dinner Alicia and I decided to return to the common room, and try to work there. The only problem with this plan was that the Weasley twins were also in the common room, and they were bored. Nothing productive can get done if the Weasley twins are bored.
"Hey Kitty Kat! Whatcha doing?"George came over to the love seat I had been reading on, and sat next to me. Fred was helping Alicia with her Defense homework at a table near the fire.
"Just trying to catch up on some reading for charms. Why are you over here, and Fred over there?" I raised my eyebrow at him and smirked.
George blushed and glanced towards his twin and love interest, "If I was over there, we wouldn't be getting anything done. She's been stressed about her homework lately. Plus I need to give her some space, so she can realize how perfect we are.."
I laughed, "Wow, look who sounds like they're straight out of a romance novel."
He glared at me, "Yeah, whatever. Someday when I marry her, I'll get the last laugh. You and Wood... shite. Okay Katie just go along with this." I look at him in confusion as he lays his head in my lap, and throws his legs over the arm of the couch. "If our lovely captain comes over here my name is Fred."
I glare at him and whisper, "This is pointless! I don't know what you 4 think you're going to achieve by doing this, but I want no more part in it. I'm trying to get over my feelings for him!"
He glances towards the entrance to the common room and smirks, "Just play with my hair. This will make Alicia's day. You know how she gets when she talks about you and Oliver."
"Yeah so maybe we should start to prepare her, because him and I are never going to get together!" I'm about to leave when his other half decides to make things interesting.
"Oi Fred! Don't you have a detention with McGonagall?" Fred yelled across the common room with an evil smile.
George frowned and looked at me, "Even though the look on Oliver's face a minute ago would make it worth it, I refuse to serve my twin's detention."
I smiled down at him, "That's what you get for not minding your own business."
He leaned up and touched his nose to mine, "Someday you will thank me." He stood up suddenly and walked briskly across the room. "Come along lover boy. I need to talk with you about something before I serve my detention." He smirked at Alicia who blushed more than she ever had before.
Alicia turned to me with questions in her eyes. I stood up and walked over to her. "What else do you guys have planned?"
She smiled at me innocently, "Oh nothing."
I laugh and shake my head, "I'm going to bed. I have a feeling this is going to be a long week. Night."
...
"OKAY WOOD! YOU'VE PROVED YOUR POINT!" Fred yelled after two hours of intense practice. I was so hot and tired from the grueling practice that the February chill wasn't effecting me.
"GET US OUT OF THE SKY BEFORE ONE OF US FALLS OFF OUR BROOM!" Angelina yelled angrily.
I glanced over at Alicia, "You would think we lost our match last weekend based on the practice we've had today."
Alicia smirked at me, "I know. I wonder what brought this on."
"OKAY TEAM EVERYONE BUT THE WONDER TWINS CAN HEAD TO THE SHOWERS," Oliver yelled as he flew towards the twins.
I glanced nervously over at the three of them, wondering what Oliver was lecturing them on. I hope it's not their grades. If their grades were low McGonagall would threaten to not let them play. But I doubt that's it, because regardless of how much the twins procrastinate, they are quite brilliant at school.
I stood in the shower trying to gather the energy to get dressed and head back into the castle for dinner. After what I guess seemed too long to shower I heard quiet foot steps come towards the showers. I could hear banging of lockers and loud footsteps in the locker room, so I assumed the twins were inside. "Katie, are you okay?" Alicia sounded nervous.
I put my head against the wall and sighed. What was going on? Why was I so tired? "I'm fine Alicia. I'm just too tired to turn off the shower and get dressed."
She laughed, "Come on! You're just stalling to put off doing your arithmancy homework. I bet there's the triple chocolate cake for dessert!"
I turned off my shower and dried off from the towel Alicia had brought for me. She handed me my clothes that I had also forgotten in my locker and we hurried off to dinner. We avoided the twins and Oliver for the rest of the night, because they all seemed to be in a terrible mood.
...
"KATIE! WAKE UP!" Alicia yelled as she jumped on my bed. I groaned and rolled to the other side of my bed. Licia has always been a morning person. I despise morning people. "Get UP! Get in the shower, and come back out here with a positive attitude!"
I turn and glare at her. I'm about to say something sarcastic when I notice how pretty she looks, "Well don't you look nice. Trying to seduce George today?"
She smiles patiently at me, "Katie, in case you forgot. It's Valentine's day."
I look at her in surprise. I had forgotten. Well sort of. In the back of my mind I knew it was Valentine's day, but it wasn't important, "Did George ask you!?"
She nods with a shy smile, "Well kind of. It's part of the plan."
I narrow my eyes at her and look over to Angelina's bed. She's still asleep! I point over at her, "Why does she get to sleep?"
Alicia shrugs, "She doesn't have to get up for a while."
I sigh, "There's no way I'm getting out of this, is there?"
She shakes her head, "Katie just go with the flow. Please! Part two will work. I just know it."
"Does part 2 entail me going on a date with a Weasley twin?"
She giggles, "You're catching on fast! I mean you have to admit that part one really bothered Oliver!"
I threw off my covers and stalked towards the bathroom, "He acted like a protective older brother! This is the last time you can talk me into this! I mean it!"
I'm fuming my entire shower. Why do these four think they can just make all these plans and I will go along with them?! If I have to do this, I'm going to do it MY WAY! I dry off and hurry over to my trunk. I take out my dark, skinny, jeans that my Grandmum didn't want to buy because she thought they were too tight. I picked out my favorite green, cashmere, long sleeve, pull over sweater. I snatched up my push up bra and headed back to the bathroom without even glancing at Alicia. I dried my hair with a flick of my wand, and started dressing. I'll magically curl my hair again, and added my black boots and black scarf. I'm channeling my inner Slytherin!
Eventually I walk out and sit on my bed. Alicia looks so happy she might cry, " You can do my make-up. You're way better at it than me."
She only nods and starts to giggle with excitement as she grabs the mascara, foundation, eye shadow, and lip gloss, "I'm not going to use blush since the chill will give you natural color. Oh my Katie. I don't think I've ever seen you look so pretty. Even at the ball you look so formal, but here it's every day Katie on steroids! And here I thought I wasn't going to be able to get you out of the bathroom.."
I shrug and let her apply the make-up. She takes my hand and pulls me down the stairs after I grab my long black coat. It's a little after 10, so a lot of people will still be eating. She's beaming at me as we enter the Great Hall, and looks expectantly to her left.
Walking towards us is Cedric. I look at him in confusion. There's no way they brought him into all of this plotting. He pauses in front of us with his back to the rest of the hall, and winks at Alicia. Then again, what wouldn't my friends do? She giggles and hurries over to where George is sitting with Fred and Oliver.
I cross my arms over my chest as Cedric smirks at me, "What's going on Diggory. Please tell me you didn't buy into this."
He shakes his head and smiles innocently, "Nah, I'm taking Cho Chang today. Angelina just asked me to talk to you this morning in the Great Hall. I thought I should do my part. It's harmless, really."
"Traitor!" I laugh and start to walk away, but he put his arm around my shoulder to slow me down.
He leans in, "Angelina told me to tell you to just play your part. Alicia is distraught that this is the last year for Oliver to be here, and then after next year you will leave here too. She will be all alone."
I frown, "Everyone plays up Alicia's feelings on this situation, and not mine! She's always been like my baby sister, but there comes a point when that angle won't work anymore."
He winks at me as we reach my friends at the table, "I hope it works a while longer Miss Bell. Don't fight fate."
I lean in and hug him and whisper, "Have fun with Cho. Please tell her how my friends blackmailed you into this. I wouldn't want her to think I was trying to steal you. If you can't help me with arithmancy, I will fail."
He just smiles and nods before he walks away to the Hufflepuff table. I turn towards my friends and am surprised to see the twins glaring at me. Oliver is just watching with a blank face, while Alicia is beaming. Angelina is here now too and is smiling knowingly at me.
"What did HE want?" Fred asked crossly.
George turns and glares at the Hufflepuff table, "Oh cut it out you two. He was just saying hi. Well that and telling me I look nice and asked who my date for this wonderful holiday is.."
Oliver sat up straighter, "What did you tell him?"
I shrugged and started to pile pancakes on my plate, "Thanks and that I don't have one."
He smiled at me and then turned back towards his friends in 7th year. Angelina nodded at Fred almost saying 'we gave him a chance and he didn't ask her.' I roll my eyes. Of course he didn't ask me!
"What are you guys doing today?" I asked trying to avoid the inevitable.
Angelina smiled, "I'm going to Hogsmead with Lee. We're going to do some shopping. I guess his sister's birthday is coming up. Then we're going to The Three Broomsticks."
"That sounds fun. Is it a date, or just as friends?" Alicia asked shyly
Angelina smiled at me, "A date."
Alicia and I giggle, and glance at the twins. I glanced at Fred, because I knew he was annoyed. Alicia glanced at George, because I knew she wanted to go on a real date with him.
Fred cleared his throat, and I saw Oliver look over at him as if knowing he was going to do something to cause trouble, "George and I actually haven't made plans yet. But I was wondering if you wanted to go to Madam Puddifoot's tea shop with me today Kates?"
Fred looked at me with such believable nervousness, it made me think that he should be an actor in one of those muggle movies. I could see Oliver stiffen as Fred called me Kates. NO ONE but Oliver called me Kates. I glanced at Alicia who was staring at Oliver, and nodded to Fred. "That sounds like fun Fred."
Fred was about to respond when Oliver shifted his glaring gaze from Fred to me with shock, "WHAT?" I looked at Alicia pleading her to say something. It's not like I could confess I loved Fred, because I'm a terrible liar. "You two cannot go on a date!" Oliver's face is red with anger, and I feel a bit of hope that he's jealous. "There is a strict rule of no relationships on the team!"
And there goes my hope out the window. It's always about the team. I look down at my plate to hide my disappointment, but I feel as if I might cry.
"What do you mean? You congratulated me after I asked Alicia to go with me last night?!" George said in outrage.
I looked at Alicia with tears forming in my eyes, and stood up. I couldn't hear Oliver argue for the better of the team any longer. I hurried out of the great hall with my head high. These four are not making me participate in this any longer. I just end up feeling down more than normal from Oliver's accidental rejections.
"Hey Bell! You look Slytherin today!" Flint yelled out to me. "Why don't you come back to my common room with me. I can show you around your new house!"
I turned and glared at him and sent a nonverbal stinging jinx his way. Fred came jogging up, and put his arm around me. He leaned over and kissed my forehead, "Come on Kitty Kat. We will just go around and have some fun. Forget them." He took my hand and me away from the entrance to the great hall and out the main doors. I knew there was no changing his mind so I followed him silently.
Alicia, George, Lee, and Angelina caught up with us on the road to the village. We were all laughing and having a great time by the time we got to the first shop. My terrible morning was forgotten. I really love my friends.
...
"KATIE! WAIT UP!" Alicia was running up to me between classes.
"What's up?" I asked her as she caught up.
"Where have you been? You've been avoiding us." She accused me.
I sighed. Maybe she was right, but I wanted them to stop planning things. We had all had fun last Saturday hanging out as friends, but since then I've been studying more than usual in the library and eating in the kitchens. Some what avoiding all of them. "I've just been getting a lot of homework. It's only Tuesday. I'll see you at practice tonight."
She looks at me critically and frowns, "You really think he didn't want you to go on a date with Fred because of the team, don't you?"
I turn and walk away. I'm just not in the mood to talk about this right now. Especially when it's time for my hardest class of the day. I enter the classroom and sit next to Cedric, and try to focus.
I really hate this class, and when I'm worrying about practice later the time seems to stand still.. The hour drags on and Professor Vector assigns a terrible amount of homework just as the bell rings signaling the end of the school day.
I slowly make my way up to my dorm, and change for practice. I plop down on my bed with a book and decide to read until it's time to leave.
Next thing I know I start awake as Angelina comes running in the room, "KATIE! What are you doing? We need to get to practice! We're going to be late!"
I hurry out of bed and follow Angelina out of the common room. By the time we make it down to the locker room everyone else is in their gear and ready for practice. I'm still feeling a bit disoriented and groggy from my unplanned nap.
Alicia looks up at me as I'm walking to my locker to get my gear and starts laughing. "Oh Katie, did you just wake up? "
I smirk at her, "How could you tell?"
She rolled her eyes and looked at angelina, "You just woke her up. I can tell because her hair is down, and has a ton of body and the confused look on her face. I wish my bed head looked like I was in a shampoo commercial!"
I sit down on the bench and glare at her, "Who has a hair tie I can borrow?"
Fred smirks at me, "You would think you would sleep with your hair up. It's always in a pony tail when you're awake."
I shrug my shoulders as Alicia hands me a hair tie, "It's uncomfortable."
Oliver has a surprised look on his face and frowns at the team, before he snaps out of it, "OKAY TEAM LET'S PRACTICE!"
...
Three hours later the twins were continually complaining about the hard practice Oliver had just put us through. Oliver had disappeared into the captain's office right after we had all entered the locker room, "That was the longest practice in the history of qudditich."
"Wood sure knows how to take the fun out of the sport."
"My arse will never be the same."
"I say we start a mutiny. I think Harry would make a great captain. He would never make us practice that long."
"You're right. He's got my vote too."
Angelina rolled her eyes, "I'm just really hungry. I refuse to miss dinner, because our captain lost track of the time."
I roll my eyes and grab my towel from my locker and head to the girl's side of the showers. I want nothing more than a long hot shower to wash away that terrible practice. I was playing well, but it was just never ending.. When I finally felt refreshed and relaxed from my shower I realized that my hands were pruney and I had probably been in here longer than I thought.
I turned off the water, and only heard silence. Great. Now I'm going to have to walk up to the castle in the dark by myself. I hate it when the rest of the team leaves without me. I use my towel to dry off and rub it in my hair, so it's not dripping wet. I guess it's a good thing they left, so I don't have to hurry out there to get my clothes in only a towel in front of the whole team.
I haven't heard a single sound since I turned off the water, but decided to pause once more to listen for anyone. If only Alicia were still here to bring my clothes like usual. I adjusted my towel under armpits and hurried out of the shower. My bare feet hurried across the cold tile.
Suddenly I heard a door slam and a male voice talking quietly. I glanced behind me, but the male side of the showers was empty. No one had been near the lockers, or I would have heard them?
And suddenly I hit a very solid wall, that I know for a fact isn't usually there. I turn quickly to see what I hit as I begin to fall backwards from the impact. Two warm hands grab my upper arms, and I realize who it is before I see him. I squeeze my eyes shut and pray it's Harry and not Oliver. The twins would already be laughing, and this is definitely a male.. After a long silent pause I open my eyes slowly and see the stunned and yet still gorgeous face of my captain. He doesn't have a shirt on, and only has his black briefs on. Every one of his muscles is toned from use. Not unnaturally large, but visibly pleasing.
I give him an embarrassed smile and he seems to snap out of whatever he was thinking, "Are you alright there Kates? You eh, surprised me there. I thought everyone had left."
I opened my mouth to respond, but couldn't form the words. I had seen him with little clothes on before, but this time we were alone and I had next to nothing on as well. He looked at me with worry. I cleared my throat, "I'm fine. I just thought everyone had already left too. "
He smiled at me, and then seemed to realize that I was only wearing a towel with nothing on underneath it. He let go of my arms as if they had burned him, and he turned away. "Well, I better let you get dressed. I was just heading to the shower."
I shake my head as the blush begins to form on my cheeks. It's not as if we haven't seen each other in various states of undress, but never touching... I try to fight my disappointment as I get dressed quickly and practically run out of the locker room. He didn't even look twice at me, and as soon as he finally realized I was nearly naked, he couldn't get away fast enough.
At least now the girls will have to believe me that he only thinks of my like a sister. I turn towards the kitchens as I enter the castle, and begin to plot ways of avoiding Oliver. I can't deny that I was dreading practice earlier, but now I am going to stay away from my captain at all costs.
