A week at Hogwarts had never gone by so painfully slow. EVER. I spent endless hours in the library between classes trying to catch up from the days worth of classes that I missed. The teachers were all understanding and helpful, but I constantly felt like there was more work to be done. I don't know what I would do if Cedric hadn't been helping me! The worst part was I couldn't get my 2 hours of qudditich practice in to relieve stress. Oliver wouldn't even let me watch from the stands because he was nervous a loose bludger would catch me by surprise.
I honestly think he's just afraid of Kevin hunting him down and killing him if I ever get a scratch in practice again. He always gives me nervous glances across the room, as if he's afraid I will pass out at any moment. I've taken to throwing things across the common room when he's repetitively doing it. The twins loooove to change the couch pillows I throw at him into a book or something heavy, but Oliver's qudditich skills avoid any injury.
Friday after class I stopped in my room to pick up my bag for the weekend and noticed a very familiar owl outside the dormitory window. I smile to myself, and open the window. The beautiful brown owl holds out it's leg and flies away as soon as I have the letter. I sigh and sit on my bed and start to read. I never know what to expect
Dear Kathryn,
How are you feeling? Grandfather and I were worried sick when we heard about your terrible fall from qudditich. I was shocked to hear the news from Kevin and not you, but I know you didn't want to worry us. Old age doesn't make us fragile young lady! I am you Grandmother and need to hear about everything going on in your life. I'm just relieved that Kevin finally agrees that qudditich is too injury prone for you Kathryn. I'm not saying you are unable to do it, but why would you risk your health? You're brother is very worried about you, and I second his decision to take you to St. Mungo's for a second opinion. I've corresponded with that Madam Pomphrey, and trust her decisions but as your grandfather says, "we can never be too careful with our Little Angel."
Although I was very worried about your health, your brother also told me about this wedding that will be happening soon. I could tell he was hiding something. I'm assuming she's pregnant, so I hope she's at least from a good family. As the first one of the grandchildren to get married, he really is setting the tone for the rest of the boys to follow. I had tried to explain that to him, but he said he only wants to set an example of marrying for love. Now don't you worry Kathryn, we will find you the perfect man from a great family who can take care of you. I've been on the lookout since birth for the right man for you, and I think you've already caught him. I especially think so after the New Years ball, but who DIDN'T fall in love with you that night. I will say as I said in the last letter. You were the perfect host, and looked gorgeous. All of my friends are absolutely green with envy. But that is a topic for another day. This weekend Kevin said you will be meeting this Miss Prunella. I want a full report on her. If there is an instance she is unkind or does not seem worthy of our Kevin, I insist on hearing about it.
Be safe, and good luck at the Healer's appointment. I've talked with the specialist, and he will get you right in to see him.
With Love,
Grandmum
I roll my eyes and fold up the letter. Not a month goes by without referencing my marriage. I wonder who she thinks I will marry. It has to be Cedric, but anyways, I refuse to be her spy on Kevin. Also... how was she talking with the healers?! She just has too much time on her hands...
I throw my bag over my shoulder and say a quick good bye to the team and hurry to McGonagal's office. She sitting at her desk doing paper work as I enter. She looks up and smiles, "Have a great weekend Miss Bell. I hope to see a report of your full recovery. See you Sunday evening."
"You too Professor!" I wave as I throw down the powder before I can get scared and clearly state my brother's new address, "Manderly Cove" I HATE flooing.
I whirl through the chimney and step out as quickly as I arrive. I cough and set down my bag with a thud. The room is massive, but cozy. I know my brother is rich from being a professional qudditich player, but seeing the furniture and fireplace in the room I was a bit in awe.
I could hear something to my right and looked in the doorway just as a pretty blonde came hurrying into the room. She gave me a huge smile and hurried forward. "I thought I heard the floo! Oh it's so nice to meet you finally! I feel as if I've known you for ages. Come in to the kitchen! I'm just making dinner for when Kevin gets back from work. He should be home any minute. He said you would be a bit unsettled about flooing, but you look fine to me." She looked me over with such sincerity and pulled me into a hug. "I've always wanted a baby sister, and you're sooo cute!"
I hugged her back a little surprised and jumped in surprise when I heard Kevin laughing behind us. "Ella you should probably introduce yourself before calling her your sister. She could have thought you were the maid."
Ella pulled back and winked at me, "Sorry Katie. My name is Ella, and through some crazy twist of fate I fell in love with your brother. Now don't judge me just based on that, because goodness KNOWS what you would think of me if you did that. I mean really, who could love that?" She gestured back towards my brother with a smirk at me and I saw my brother's smile turn to a frown.
"Hey now, Baby Kate loves me." Kevin started to protest.
"She has to honey. You're family, but she probably always wanted a sister like I did," She shrugged and started to steer me towards the kitchen. "By the way, go shower. You smell!" I start to giggle and follow her with a smile at my brother. He was watching us in confusion, but then smiled back at me before he disappeared. Ella walked over to the stove and continued to cook while glancing at me every so often. "So how was your week without qudditich? Your brother was saying how you weren't ever going to play again, but he would be a bear if he didn't play every day of the week."
I shrug, "It could have been worse, but I miss it. I had to catch up on school stuff, so I kept busy."
She smiled, "I was never much of a qudditich fan until I met your brother. I'm sure he hasn't, since he's a guy, and doesn't think about these things. Has your brother ever told you how we met? It's a good one."
I look at her in surprise and shake my head, "No.. I would love to hear this!"
She smirks and starts to set the table as she begins the story, "Well a group of friends from school and I came to visit my best friend Sophie who works for the Gringotts branch in England. I grew up in France and went to Beuxbaton, but I spoke English well enough. I was so excited to see another country's culture. Anyways, we just so happened to come when France was playing Puddlemere, and decided to go to the game. All of my friends LOOVE qudditich and the France team. They were excited to be sitting by the Puddlemere rings to see up close whenever France scored, but I found myself silently cheering for England and their amazingly cute chaser. Throughout the whole game I found myself watching him concentrate on the game and missing the action myself. He does this slight head tilt right before he makes a move. Eventually my friend Sophie who lives in England noticed and asked who I was looking at. She laughed when I told her and promised we would go to a pub the team might go to after the game. But honestly, I NEVER thought we would actually see them afterwards.
Anyways the game ended. France won, so the girls wanted to go out celebrating. Sophie randomly picked a pub and we were there drinking and having a good time, when the France team came into the pub. All of the other girls were ecstatic and couldn't believe our luck, but I had just realized how much I had been hoping to see the English team. Soon the France team found out a huge group of French women were in the pub and began to make the moves on us. Most of them were out dancing. One of the chasers was buying me drinks and talking, when the door opened and Puddlemere came walking in. Honestly Katie," Ella looked over and me with a light blush on her face. "When I saw your brother across the room, I couldn't look away. There was something about him that drew me to him. I could only look away when he started to look my way. I would have been mortified if he caught me staring at him. I knew he was a famous qudditich player and used to the staring, but I had never hung out with anyone like that before. Little did I know, the chaser from France noticed my attention towards Kevin, and pulled on my arm to get my attention. Now he was probably a bit drunk from celebrating and didn't mean to, but his touch was not gentle and it hurt. I tried to pull away and must have cringed, because before I could say a thing Kevin was next to me demanding that he let go of me. Keep in mind that I was beyond flustered, because the guy I had been admiring from a far was now trying to help me. I stood up as soon as the chaser let go, and hurried away to find one of my friends after thanking your brother."
Ella was standing by the stove stirring the dinner with a huge smile on her face, and I noticed Kevin standing in the doorway with wet hair watching her with a happy smile. "Wait, so you didn't actually talk to him that night?" I asked.
She looked over at me and shook her head, "The story's not over yet. I was so flustered that I went over and tried to get my friends to leave, but Sophie refused to let me leave so early. She dragged me out onto the dance floor after another shot and we started dancing without a care in the world. I tried to forget about the qudditich players and focused on having a good time with my best friend who I hadn't seen in a while. We were laughing and having a good time when someone came up behind me and started to grind on me. Strong arms were holding me against him and not letting go. I turned around in shock and found the chaser from France. Sophie went up and slapped him as I tried to pull away. I was so scared, because again he wasn't holding me gently. He was acting like he wouldn't let go, and was so used to getting any girl he wanted that he probably didn't realize what he was doing. Just as I was about to start panicking he leaned down and said 'come home with me tonight. I can show you things you've never seen before.' I have no idea what the look on my face was, but Sophie could tell something was wrong and started yelling at him in French. Now Sophie is like 5 feet 2 inches, but can be ferocious when she wants to be. He started to laugh at her and began to pull me towards the door."
I gasp and look at her with wide eyes, "This is way more intense than I thought it would be."
Ella smiled back at me, "I look at it as fate taking a step in to make sure Kevin and I met. I would never have given a qudditich player a chance, unless I really thought they were a nice person. Just as we were getting to the door Kevin came up and took my arm out of the chaser's and steered me back to a table in the back of the pub. The rest of his teammates were sitting there and watching us curiously. I was probably blushing like a tomato, which is a curse with my light blonde hair. He just sat me down, put his arm around me, and ordered me a pomegranate martini. He didn't take his eyes off the France chaser until he left the pub 10 minutes later. Both of them knew it wouldn't be good for their careers to fight. Only then did he turn to me to see if I was okay. Looking back, he probably saw a blonde getting man handled and freaked out because it reminded him of you, but it was still so sweet how protective he was. As the evening progressed my friends came and joined us, and before we left I actually felt comfortable around the team."
Kevin cleared his throat and walked in to sit by me on a bar stool. "Before the end of the night, the entire team was in love with her, and I had to fight them for her attention. I knew the instant I walked into the bar and saw her looking at me, that I had to meet her. LePew just made it easy by acting like a total ass. I couldn't believe when she hurried away after I helped her the first time, but the second time I wasn't giving her a chance to get away." He smiled at Ella, "I told her and her friends where we were be going out the next night and made sure they would be going. I wasn't leaving anything to chance, because I had to get to know this girl. After only one night of watching her, I could tell she was a sweet girl, with great friends, who didn't like the attention she was demanding from the entire male population in the pub. I had never seen anyone so beautiful." He smiled at Ella, and then looked at the table. "But enough about me and all these feelings, we need to eat before your healer appointment."
I laughed and we all sat down to eat. Kevin and Ella were talking about their days and asking about mine, but I couldn't get over how cute their story was. They were so great together. The perfect balance to bring out the best in the other, and I could see how much they love each other.
As soon as the meal was over Kevin rushed me to the appointment, and asked 50 questions. He seemed to be testing the healer to see if he knew what he was talking about. By the end of it, I was passed with a completely healed bill of health, and was embarrassed by my brother. The healer didn't seem to mind and asked for my brother's autograph as we were leaving.
Once we got back to the house Kevin took me up to the room I would be staying in. He was telling me about a new play they had been practicing today when Ella walked in. "Since he has qudditich tomorrow, would you want to go dress shopping for the wedding? Most of my friends are in France, so you and sophie will get to pick out the bridesmaid's dresses all on your own."
I look at her in surprise, "You want me in your wedding party?"
She looked at me like I was crazy, "Of course you will be in our wedding party!"
I looked at Kevin, but he was looking at me in surprise too, "You didn't think we would forget about you, did you Baby Kate?"
I shrugged, "I hadn't really thought about it. Who all is going to be in it?"
Ella sat on my bed and started counting on her fingers, "Well Kevin just decided on Tim, Charlie Weasley, Cal, and Bryan who are on Puddlemere. I'm having Sophie, you, Claire, and Cecelia. My brothers and your cousins will be ushers to seat everyone."
I nod, "Shopping tomorrow would be fun, but I'm really tired."
Kevin stood up and yawned. He bent down and kissed her forehead, "Night Baby Kate. I'll see you in the afternoon after practice. Keep Ella from misbehaving."
Ella smiles at us as she walks out of the room, "Night Katie. I'll see you in the morning. It was wonderful finally meeting you."
...
"Okay El, try not to be a bitch to the sale women again. She can't help the fact that she's your mum's friend and calls you by that god-awful name." The beautiful French woman rolled her eyes at her best friend and smiled at me. Her short black hair came to her shoulders and warm brown eyes made her so endearing. They both look so old and sophisticated, how am I going to stand up with them at the wedding without looking like a 12 year old?
"Honestly what was my mother thinking? She only had to decide on one girl name and she picks a monstrosity like Prunella?! I dont care how French it sounds! It's horrible." Ella opens the door and plasters a smile on her face.
"Prunella! Darling how wonderful to see you again. Your mother was in yesterday to check on your gown, and mentioned you would be here to try on bridemaids dresses." A bubbly older woman came up with a eager look on her face. "Right this way to the back. I've brought out things that matched what you said you wanted."
"Thank you Diana!" Ella said with a stiff smile.
I giggled and followed Sophie to the back. As soon as we got to the back we were led into the dressing rooms that were full of light blue dresses. Strapless, halter, long sleeve, short, long, v neck, sweetheart neckline. Everything was in there. "How can this all match what you want? I don't know where to start!" I yelled as Diana closed the door.
"Just start with your favorite. Everything will look cute on you." Ella yelled.
It took me a while, but I got into a knee length flowing skirt with a tight bodice with an over one shoulder strap. there was some sort of draping, but this is the one that caught my eye. I could hear Ella and Sophie talking, so I left the dressing room and was surprised to see Sophie in the same exact dress. Ella beamed at me and clapped her hands. "It's decided then! It's both your favorites, and I think its fabulous! We have to pick it!"
.
Sophie smiled at me, "Well that was easy! I thought we would be here for hours. Now we can go order the flowers and the cake. You don't mind, do you Katie? We can go get lunch right after. It shouldn't take long because we've already made all the decisions. We're just ordering now."
"No that's fine," I shrug as Diana is altering Sophie's dress slightly. "How do you want me to wear my hair?" I asked Ella trying to imagine what I would look like. I really like the dress, so I'm excited to wear it. I wonder what Oliver will think of it... I stop. I shouldn't be thinking about him.
Ella walks over to me, "You can wear it however you want, but who's the guy? I can tell you're thinking about one." I look at her in shock. "You're so cute. I'm sure your love life is interesting, so spill."
I blush and look at her. She's looking at me with so much eager excitement, that I can't tell her no. "It would be very interesting if I hadn't been in love with the same guy since I was like 5."
Ella looked at me in surprise, "Who?! Do I know him?"
I look down, "It's Timmy's cousin Oliver."
She gasps, "NO WAY! OhMyGawd! That's so cute. He totally likes you."
I shake my head, "My friends think so and have been trying to get him to admit it. I used to think he did too, but I really don't think he does. After this year he will probably be playing qudditich professionally and forget about his childhood friend. I just hope I can get over him."
Ella frowns, "I didn't tell you when Kevin was there, but after that first night I played hard to get. Boy did it work. Kevin loved the challenge. That's what we will do with Oliver. He thinks you will always be there. My cousin is part Veela and totally smoking. He'll be your date for the wedding!"
"I don't know if that will work. My friends have tried everything" I start.
"Of course it will! Now go get changed, because that size 4 fits you perfectly, and doesn't need altered. Sophie is probably so jealous of your boobs. Anyways, We have places to go, and things to do!" Ella smiled and walked back to the couch.
I hurried in and changed back into my clothes. I was ready for a morning with the girls!
...
Dear Grandmother,
It was great to see Kevin this weekend, and I had a wonderful time meeting his fiancé Ella Fontaine. I just got back to Hogwarts and am sorry to say goodbye to them. She is the perfect girl for Kevin, and keeps his ego down. They balance each other out perfectly, just like you and Grandfather. I hope to someday find someone like Grandfather, and think Kevin did a good job in his future wife. On Saturday we bought the bridesmaids dresses, and did other stuff for the wedding. I am sure you will approve of her taste. She did ask if I thought you would like to come to their new house for tea, and give her your input on the seating arrangements for our side of the family. She said she didn't want you to feel pressured into helping, but I told her I thought you would love to meet her and help out.
Please go with an open mind, even though this is Kevin we are talking about. She seems like the type of wife you would pick for him, and I'm already looking to her as a sister. She's very special and I know you will love her too.
Love,
Kathryn
I know there wasn't much Katie/Oliver interaction, but I promise to make it up to you =) Review!
