It's a little short... hope you enjoy the memories with her friends! I just love the twins so much =)
I decided maybe a running start would help as I back up a few more steps. My cheeks are bright red in embarrassment and exertion. The twins' roaring laughter is attracting attention of the people all around us, but I try to block it out. I will win this bet. I sprint and jump to reach the lowest branch. I pull up and scramble to sit on it. I take a deep breath and stick my tongue out at the George. I begin to climb quickly to the branch they had indicated.
I look down and notice a crowd has begun to gather. "Isn't this the branch you said Fredrick?" I give him my sassiest voice.
He pouts and lounges back on the ground "Unfortunately."
George glares at his twin, "I told you 3 tries was too many." They continue to bicker about their lost wager.
Alicia looks smug, "Katie is the most athletic person I know. I warned you."
Michael leaned on the trunk of the next tree, "Even though they lost this, I have a feeling seeing the climb back down will be worth the defeat."
Angelina begins to giggle, and glances at Michael. He really is good looking, and sometimes I forget because I'm with him all the time. Fred glares over at the gorgeous blonde. huh, I've never figured out his problem with Michael. It's clear Angelina only has eyes for Fred.
I decide I might as well distract them. "I don't know if I can make it back down. I think I'm afraid of heights."
"Nice try Katie, but you are much higher playing quddiitch." Fred sounds annoyed. What's up his arse?
"It's been awhile since I've even flown. I think I'm like one of those cats that needs to be saved when they climb too high." I try to sound convincingly scared.
Alicia crosses her arms, "I know for a fact you loved riding the firebolt again over spring break when Kevin wasn't looking."
"Dang, you caught me." I shrug and hurry down the tree with ease. Eventually I hung on to the lowest branch and then dropped to the ground.
Angelina glares at me, "I hate how you can even make that look graceful."
I laugh and pick up my book. I glance at the twins, "Don't underestimate me gentlemen." I lower my voice so only they can hear, "Just so you know, I would not be writing Oliver even if I had lost the bet. I haven't heard back from him since the fall."
I turned and walked back to the castle with Alicia. She needed help with her transfiguration assignment, and I needed to get away from the twins when they were this mischievous. As the weather continued to improve and the end of the year neared, the twins energy seemed to be growing exponentially. Just this morning at breakfast they got it in their heads that I needed to write a letter to Oliver. They have decided that Oliver and his girlfriend wouldn't be in the paper as much if I did that. I personally don't think that was possible. Every single day the couple is mentioned in some way or another. Kevin even made a comment to me about it in a letter saying that the ticket sales are up because women were more inclined to go see the romance along with the usual fans. He explained the advertisement it was doing for the two teams.. My only response to that topic was Oliver was lucky his love life could be so lucrative to the team.
...
My studying for the NEWT exams was going really great. I was feeling confident in my abilities for the upcoming testing. I honestly kept my sanity because of my friends. Michael was always there with me being really supportive and keeping me focused. The twins and Ang were a much welcome comic relief at times. Alicia continued to be my positive cheerleader, always encouraging me. She had also put an end to Angelina's trying to discuss Oliver with me. For that I was eternally grateful.
Cedric and I only see each other in classes. He is super busy being Hogwarts favorite in the tournament and with his girl friend Cho Chang. Cho seems like a nice enough girl.. maybe a little immature but Cedric doesn't seem to notice or care. I wonder what his family thinks of her.
We always made sure to catch up in potions and arithmancy. Arithmancy continues to be the bane of my existence, but potions has been really interesting this semester. Snape is clearly trying to prepare us for the NEWTS, and I love a challenge.
Cedric glares over at me, "How come yours has a sheen to it and mine doesn't?"
I shrug as I bottle my sample to turn in, "I followed the directions better?"
"That can't be it! I know for a fact I did everything just right." He complains as he bottles his as well.
A voice is cleared behind us, and I turn in surprise to see Snape. "Some people have a natural talent for seeing beyond the directions. Did you add a counter clockwise stir every once in a while after adding the velcorn?"
I nod unable to know how he determined that. He did the nearest thing I had ever seen to a smile, "I can't believe I never put together sooner who your mother was. I knew her while we went to school. She was quite the brewer as well."
I swallow the emotion in my voice. Not many people knew my mother and talk to me about it, "Really? My Grandmum always bragged that she was a brewer but I just figured she was being a mum.. How did you figure out she was my mum?"
He looks around the room, as if to make sure no one else is listening, "You have a similar look, but the thought had never crossed my mind until I heard your middle name."
I smile at him thinking of the picture I have in my room at home, "Yes Lily Evans was my godmother, so my middle name was in her honor. They were the best of friends even after they left school. I have seen many pictures of them. I think they found a sister in one another." I stop abruptly and blush a deep shade of red. "I'm sorry professor. I began to ramble. No one talks about my mother with me, so I got carried away."
Snape looks away, "No harm done Miss Bell. I know the feeling. Talking about the ones who go before us can be hard for some." He walked quickly away and began to scold a hufflepuff on their brewing. Wow... that was unexpected
..
I decided at the end of May that there was less hostility between the 4 houses due to the absence of qudditich. Since there was no qudditich finals, the whole school was backing the 2 Hogwarts champions. Sure some people were rooting for one over the other, but it didn't so much as depend on the person's house..
I also noticed that the twins were not pranking other students nearly as often as usual. They focused all of their energy on peeves, who loved the attention. At first I didn't realize why, but then I began to wonder if it was because the twins were trying to stay on the good side of their peers. They had made so much money this year off of betting at the tasks, and they wanted to keep it up for the last one.
...
About a week before the 3rd task Alicia, Ang, and I were laying out in our bathing suits enjoying the warm weather. It was Saturday, so the grounds were full of students. I noticed Harry sitting with his best friends Ron and Hermione and waved. I sort of miss my quiet teammate. I wonder what he's been doing to prepare for the 3rd task?
Alicia must be thinking the same thing, because she looked over at Ang and I, "I wonder how nervous Harry is. I can't imagine competing this year against 7th years, let alone last year."
Angelina simply grunted in response. She was tired from being out late with Fred last night and needed a nap. I frowned as I thought about it, "Harry has always had to deal with things. I'm sure he's as prepared as he can be."
Alicia giggled, "Yeah the other day Neville told me he heard Harry is getting trained by Dumbledore!"
I sigh, "I doubt that's true. He's the one headmaster that has been fair throughout the whole tournament. I would know because I see them at the tasks up front when I'm with Madam P."
Alicia looked disappointed, "Just imagine what someone could learn from one on one tutoring with Dumbledore. He knows everything."
Angelina snorted in laughter, "Bring it up to Katie's grandmum and I'm sure she could make it happen."
Alicia began to laugh as well, and I decided it was time for me to get in the water. I love my friends but they love to give me a hard time about my family. Plus the twins are walking over, so I decide to avoid their shenanigans for a little bit longer. Plus they have been very persistent that I need to write Wood. Yeah, right.
...
On June 24th, I found myself sitting between Madam Pomphrey and Professor Snape. How I ended up next to Snape, I am still unsure. I did however feel safe. At least whatever animals and curses were in the maze made of hedges on the qudditich pitch would not get to me. It was well known that Snape was amazing at defense..
Apparently somewhere in the maze was the Triwizard cup. Whichever champion found it first, won. Cedric and Harry were first to enter the maze. Krum was second, and Fleur was last. Personally, you couldn't get me into that creepy maze for all the galleons in the world AND 'eternal glory.'
The crowd was all chatting in an excited manner, and debating what obstacles were in the maze. It made me nervous just hearing what people around me were guessing, and was extremely thankful I would not have to know. I could especially hear Cedric's father discussing and bragging about his son's chances of winning.
Fluer was the first to send up the spark for help. Moody with his special eye hustled into the maze and got her out in record time. He really is an amazing auror, even though he is crazy. Madam Pomphrey and I tended to her quickly. She had a couple burns on her left leg, her clothes were completely dirt stained, and her hair was a mess of leaves and branches. Most concerning was the fact that she was stunned. According to Dumbledore and Moody, there wasn't another champion anywhere near her, and who would have sent up the spark for her? How odd.
Fleur was revived, and sipping pepper-up potion. I began to talk to her reassuringly in French until her head mistress and younger sister joined us in the tent. After I was sure she would be okay, I went into the next tent and was surprised to see Madam Pomphrey already working on the next champion taken from the maze. In the confusion and excitement of caring for Fleur I had not realized the next spark was set up by Krum.
I walked up to Madam Pomphrey as she was assessing Krum. Somehow he was being controlled, and Madam Pomphrey was very concerned. She had just talked to Dumbledore, and didn't know how to approach the situation. The last couple spells performed by his wand include a stunner and the cruciatus curse! Maybe he stunned Fleur? And could he have been torturing Harry or Cedric?
He seems to have be stunned as well and possibly under the imperius curse. As soon as Madam Pomphry had told Dumbledore her concerns, he had hurried off mumbling something about Harry. I hope he isn't hurt too? Him and Cedric are still in the maze. Maybe one of them has just won though. I wonder if that's what the screaming outside the tent suddenly is. Who has won? I stay in the tent incase Madam Pomphrey needs me even though I want to see what all the noise is about.
Suddenly Krum sits up, and looks directly at me. He mumbles something in a language I have never heard before. There's an agonizing scream. It's a couple seconds before I realize the blood curdling scream is my own. I feel the pain hit me like a brick wall, until it becomes unbearable. I look at Madam Pomphrey, scared for my life as I fall to the ground. My world goes black.
Okay so I know my readers are the BEST and very intelligent, but just as a reminder.. This is Katie's 'injury' to substitute for the necklace. Remember I wanted Katie to be a little older, so we will pretend that LeAnn Is the one injured by the necklace in 2 years. I hope you enjoyed the chapter!? Review your thoughts!
