Chapter 21- Tricked and SG-1 Forms

Laura smiled with Jack and the doctor as Kawalsky came to after the surgery in his quarters. "That's right, Dorothy. It was all a dream," Jack said as Kawalsky opened his eyes and looked at each of them.

"Can you move your fingers?" The doctor asked. Kawalsky complied. "Toes?" The doctor asked.

"Hey!" Jack said triumphantly as Kawalsky moved his bare feet.

The doctor chuckled. "Congratulations, Major. You've already exceeded my wildest expectations," the doctor said as he left the room and Kawalsky laughed dryly.

He raised his fingers to his mouth. "Thirsty," Kawalsky barely croaked.

"Here," Laura said as she grabbed a cup with a straw and held it to Kawalsky's mouth. He drank deeply.

Kawalsky coughed. "Easy, big fella. You're not drinking for two anymore," Jack said in a comforting voice, much like what he used when Laura was little and skinned her knees.

Kawalsky sighed. "I made it," Kawalsky said faintly.

"See? Told ya. Piece of cake," Jack said as Daniel came in.

"How is he?" Daniel asked.

"Thirsty. But if it was me, I'd be feeling like I had been in the Sahara for as long as Jesus fasted in the Judean desert for forty days," Laura said, rolling her eyes.

"So what happened to what is left of the Goa'uld?" Kawalsky asked.

"Who cares other than Kennedy? If it was me, I'd never want to see it again. It's bad enough that I have the memory of a Goa'uld, much less having to look at it," Laura said, wrinkling her nose.

"Anyway, Colonel Kennedy's probably going to want to take it with him. So if you want to see it once before he-" Daniel started to say.

"Are you talking about that thing in my head?" Kawalsky interrupted.

"Daniel thinks it's fascinating," Jack said.

"No. I just thougt you might want to see it," Daniel defended himself.

"No, thanks," Kawalsky declined, holding his palms up in refusal and Carter walked in, looking clearly agitated.

"Hey, I just heard. They're shipping Teal'C and Laura out to Langley. Kennedy's taking them with him," Carter said.

"What?" Jack and Laura asked at the same time.

"What for?" Daniel asked.

"Study." That's Kennedy's word," Carter said with barely concealed disgust.

"Right. Like a darn lab rat?" Laura asked as Jack made his way to the door.

"Apparently Kennedy's ethics are selective, kiddo," Jack said as he and Daniel left the infirmary. Kawalsky sat up.

"Listen, in case the Colonel can't talk him out of it, I'd like a minute alone with Teal'C and the kid before they ship them out. They helped me get through this. I gotta thank them," Kawalsky said.

"Okay. I think that can be arranged," Carter said, squeezing his hand gently before leaving the room.

"You gonna be okay?" Laura asked.

"I think so, thanks to you and Teal'C," Kawalsky said with a brief smile.

"I'm just surprised at how easily Kree gave you up. Goa'ulds don't normally give up a host that easily or quickly," Laura said.

"You know that for a fact?" Kawalsky asked.

"More or less. A Goa'uld will stay until it dies or you die; whichever comes first," Laura said as the door opened to reveal Teal'C and two airmen.

"Hey. Come on over here. I want to shake hands with the man and kid who helped save my life," Kawalsky said, holding out his hand warmly.

"I'd like a minute alone with my friends," Kawalsky said. Laura felt a warning bell go off in her mind. Something felt wrong here. Teal'C looked at Laura briefly before looking at the airmen. "I'll make it an order. Does that make you feel better?" Kawalsky said to the airmen behind Teal'C.

The two airmen left the room. The warning got stronger. Kawalsky looked away and then back, his eyes glowing like a Goa'uld's. "Kree!" Laura exclaimed as Kree grabbed Teal'C' by the throat.

"Jaffa! Abomination! What they removed was merely a dead husk. I had already become one with the host. I give you this chance. Both of you serve me, and you may live," Kree commanded.

"I...will...not," Teal'C barely managed to get out.

"Then die!" Kree commanded, tightening his grip on Teal'C's throat.

Teal'C lost consciousness and Kree dragged Laura to the gateroom. "Let go of me! Teal'C! Dad!" Laura screamed before Kree covered her mouth and knocked out the airmen.

Jack stood in Hammond's office. This argument was lost, but he had to try to keep Teal'C on the base. "Colonel, i'm doing everything I can," Hammond said, the frustration in his voice evident.

"So, because he and my kid wasn't born on this particular planet, they don't have any rights anymore, is that it?" Jack asked in a menacing voice.

"Colonel, as far as I'm concerned they have proven themselves to me, but Kennedy doesn't see it that way as Teal'C carries the enemy and Laura has the memory of the enemy in her," Hammond said as alarms started to blare.

Laura came to in time to see Kree typing coordinates into the computer. Halfway to the gate room, he had hit her in the head. Laura looked over to see Walter, the man who ran the gateroom, clutching an injured arm. "Are you all right, Walter?" Laura asked as the iris opened. And Kree went down to the gateroom.

Jack and General Hammond came down the stairs behind Laura and Walter. "What?" Jack asked Laura, touching her shoulder.

"Dad, Kree tricked us. He left behind a shell and he's set the coordinates for Chulak," Laura said.

"He set the autodestruct sequence on the failsafe device," Hammond said, looking at the monitors.

"How did he have the code?" Jack asked.

"I don't know, but I need to ranking officers to override it and you're it!" Hammond said to Jack and they both started typing in the codes.

"All right. That did it. Open the blast doors," Jack said to Walter. Teal'C and Kree were fighting on the ramp.

Laura reached over and grabbed the microphone. "Teal'C! Hold him there! Walter, shut the gate!" Laura ordered the technician sharply.

"Do as she says! Shut it down!" Jack ordered.

"Now!" Laura screamed and the event horizon disappeared. Kawalsky's lifeless body hit the ramp and Jack, Laura, and Walt went to the ramp in time to see a small Goa'uld leaving Kawalsky, dying right in front of them.

Laura looked at her father, the grief evident on his face. "Dad, he was your friend," Laura said, touching her father's knee gently.

"Kiddo, my friend died on the table," Jack said softly and they all stood and left the gateroom.

Laura came out of the locker room, wearing the SGC uniform and a bulletproof vest and looked over at Carter and Daniel. "Hey, guys," Laura greeted them.

"You aren't going with Kennedy?" Carter asked.

"Nope. After stopping Kawalsky they have figured I'm not a flight risk and I can stay here and help you guys with my knowledge when I'm not at school," Laura said.

"We've been discussing Kree and how he knew how to set the autodestruct," Daniel said.

"Well, I have an answer for that one. If anything, the fact that he knew how to set the autodestruct code proves that there's hope for Sha're and Skaara," Laura said as they walked to the gateroom.

"How?" Daniel asked.

"Because only Kawalsky could have known that code," Laura said.

"So, something of the host must survive," Daniel said as realization dawned on him.

"Yeah, basically," Laura said as they continued to walk to the gateroom.

Walter powered up the gate. Jack and General Hammond came to the ramp. "Colonel O'Neill, is SG-1 ready to ship out?" Hammond asked as Jack examined his sunglasses.

"We are, Sir," jack said.

"Then you have a go for a standard recon mission on P3-575," Hammond said as the door opened and Teal'C entered the gateroom dressed in Stargate Command fatigues and holding his staff weapon.

"Reporting as ordered," Teal'C said grimly.

"Sir," Jack prompted. "Sir," Jack whispered.

"Sir," Teal'C repeated.

"Welcome aboard, son," Hammond said and Teal'C and Jack joined Daniel, Carter, and Laura.

"The map reports conditions on the planet are favorable," Carter said as they walked up the ramp and stared at the event horizon.

"Well," Jack said as they walked forwards and through the Stargate.

A/N: Thus ends "The Enemy Within." Now I might or I might not do every episode of season one since the story covers the first season. The question is; should I do "Emancipation" or skip to "The Broca Divide" as my character is 12 and still goes to school and there are times she won't be needed? I have an idea of how I want to fit her into "The Broca Divide."
