Chapter 22-

A/N: I am not doing every episode of season 1 as I have told someone else and like I am doing "LOST," and "Person of Interest." So I have skipped "Emancipation" and gone to "The Broca Divide." Now, I don't know with the Goa'uld mind if Laura can get sick or if she'd be like Teal'C and not, but I am inventing the idea that the DNA of a Goa'uld is all in her bloodstream and skin and, ergo, it will protect her from the illness that reverts them to Neanderthals.

Laura parked her bike inside the base. General Hammond had put in a bike rack for her for the days she came, which was only once or twice a week on either Friday or Saturday. Laura went into the locker room and changed into her uniform that Hammond had special ordered for her and made her way to the conference room over the gate.

"Hey, kiddo," Jack said, hugging her tight.

"Dad, everyone. So where to next?" Laura asked, looking around. Jack had told her about the planet where Captain Carter had been kidnapped and the men looked down on everyone who was female until they showed the people that all women were not inferior.

"When we completed interviews of all the refugees you brought back from Chulak, ten of them identified the final four symbols the Goa'ulds used to escape through the Chulak Stargate. When we disregard the last one as point of origin, that leaves three to work with," Hammond said as they looked through the packets in front of them and he went to a screen with the gate symbols on it.

But. General, I could have told you all that from my memory of the gate," Laura interjected.

"I'm sure you could, Miss O'Neill, but Captain Carter's computer model has thus far extrapolated only one set of symbols from the Abydos cartouche that contains these three glyphs," Hammond said.

"Let me guess. That's where we're going," Jack said.

"Very good, Colonel," Hammond said.

"Thank you, sir. I pride myself on my deductive reasoning skills," Jack bragged. Laura snorted as Carter looked at him.

"Deductive reasoning skills? Yeah, right," Laura said under her breath.

"In one hour, you will go through the gate to the planet represented by these symbols. It has been designated P3X-797," Hammond said, choosing not to answer to Jack being snarky.

"Couldn't we call this planet something that's a little easier to remember?" Daniel asked, looking at the folder in his hands.

"It's based on a binary code the computer uses for extrapolation," Carter said.

"Which makes it much easier to remember," Jack said in pointed sarcasm.

"We sent an M.A.L.P. probe through 30 minutes ago. Atmosphere is breathable, no detectable radiation, temperature approximately 40 degrees Fahrenheit," Hammond said.

"Can we see the video playback, sir?" Jack asked.

"There is no playback," Hammond said.

"Why no playback?" Laura asked.

"It appears to be very dark where the gate resides on this planet. Miss O'Neill, does your Goa'uld memory remember a planet like this?" Hammond asked.

"No. If my memory doesn't remember it could be that my Goa'uld ancestors never visited or even knew of it as there are planets of races that the Goa'uld thought was beneath them," Laura said, wrinkling her forehead in concentration.

"The M.A.L.P. probe has lights on it, doesn't it?" Carter asked.

"We think they were broken during transport through the gate," Hammond said, pacing.

"This is crazy. We don't know what could be there waiting for us when we come through," Daniel said, looking as nervous as Laura felt. Something felt wrong here that Laura couldn't put her finger on.

"Don't you worry, boys. That's why the SG-3 marines are comin' with. You can count on us to watch your backsides," Colonel Makepeace said with more bluster and brag than Jack.

"Well, all right. I guess we get going, but I feel something is wrong here if I don't remember this planet. There has to be a reason my memory won't remember it," Laura said reluctantly.

"Well, maybe it'll come back to you. Just wait it out," Carter said.

"I guess so. I can't talk any of you out of it. Wait up. Let me go suit up," Laura said, rushing off to the locker room.

"We're right behind you, kid," Jack yelled after her.
