It was a cool summer night.

Michael had the window down letting cool air blow through while some golden tunes bounced in the cabin. Michael wasn't particularly chatty today, somewhat exhausted from a hard day's work. Since when did his usual work become so wearing? He figured it was age getting to him, anyhow he was content to have Kitt back him up when the work became very straining.

He eyed the dash, noting its jarring appearance. Feeling a little accountable for the phone holder tightly suction-cupped ruining Kitt's aesthetic. His phone idly gripped as it charged off Kitt's dash, alerting him every few minutes in a tiresome manner of notifications he didn't entirely care for. He had to agree that as time had drawn by the phone hadn't been as exciting as he thought it would be. Sure it was helpful and entertaining but at the same time, he didn't completely need it that much. For everything the phone did, Kitt could do ten times better and was backed up by that cheerful personality of his which was otherwise priceless. Perhaps it would be better if he removed the holder entirely since he hadn't touched the phone in the last hours. He had only used it briefly to get a call down to Devon while they'd been on assignment and Kitt had been in the parking lot.

"Hey, uh Kitt?" Michael began, indebted to Kitt for having managed to corporate so long with his new phone.

"Yes, Michael?" Kitt answered smoothly, making the man beam recalling how little Kitt's voice had changed over the years. For sure it was much livelier and loose than when they'd first met but it had otherwise remained the same.

"I was thinking…"

The conversation was abruptly interrupted over a noisy Supra passing the two on the lonely lit highway. The machine madly revved and gunned the engine, pulling back speed enough to allow the seasoned black Trans-Am to be alongside it.

Michael glanced through the passenger window in curiosity, noting the young lads cheering in ever more excitement to get a little competition going. Michael let out a low whistle, surely they weren't being serious. He wasn't in the mood for a drag race and what's more 'racing' wasn't a good use for foundation equipment…[actually he was just dog tired and didn't think he was up to speed at the moment].

As for Kitt –

Michael let his hands off the steering wheel Kitt naturally took command of the vehicle.

"Kitt," Michael mischievously grinned down at the voice modulator. "Mind teaching these young guys what you're made of?"

"Michael, really…" Kitt began. "I have nothing to prove to them or you, especially you. Given the mileage I've been accumulating from all these years I don't think I need to "teach" anyone what I'm made of."

Michael smirked taking control of the vehicle once more and revving the engine in affirmative response to the anxious Supra tearing up the road beside them. Yet again releasing the chassis into Kitt's command, as he rolled up the window. Kitt internally rolled his 'eyes'.

"Don't you think this is childish?" Kitt rused, trying his best to suppress his need for bitter-sweet speed. Of course, Michael out of all people was fully aware of this little-known fact.

Before Michael could so much as offer a teasing reply he was tossed back in his seat. Kitt taking to just a fraction of his full power along the stretch of highway. The Supra to their left clawing its way forward in quick spurts of energy managing to ever so slightly keep its nose in front of Kitt. This was all child's play however, Kitt aware that he could at any given moment leave them in the dust but in good sportsmanship knew best not to struct all his stuff. At least not yet.

Kitt maintained the Supra ever so close letting them just slightly pull forward from him time to time but catching up relentlessly. The AI recalling past races against other fast-moving cars. How the years had gone by so quickly. He wondered if the passengers in the Supra were finding his presence amusing given he was starting to look like an old-timer, a fast and good-looking one at that.

Michael couldn't suppress his warm laugh as this continued for another five minutes. Kitt's turbine whirring evenly and powerfully under the hood. It'd been a while since they'd done anything similar. Kitt finding himself deeply engrossed in this otherwise juvenile game. The Supra struggled to keep up in this eternal-lasting endurance race.

When it was clear the passengers in the Supra were about to let the beast within the machine free in a desperate attempt to finish in triumph, Kitt let himself go first.

Charging ahead in one quick sweep of his scanner, sprinting away from the howling Supra without breaking a sweat.

Michael turned around in his seat getting a last glimpse of the galloping machine behind them, flashing its high beams in utter awe. Michael cast a full smile down at Kitt's modulator as the black Tran-Am was enveloped by the cool breeze of this otherwise quiet night, Kitt opening the window for Michael once more.

"Think Devon will know?" Kitt asked, showing the slightest of concerns. Feeling the rush of satisfaction flood his CPU.

Michael offered Kitt a fond pat on the dash.

"Well done partner," Michael smiled. "I was starting to wonder where your competitive complexities had gone."

Kitt internally chuckled.

"Thank you, Michael, but as you know…they haven't gone anywhere."

The worn man leaned in his seat satisfied, wrapping his hand around the phone holder's base and releasing the suction cup from the dash.

"Michael?" Kitt's voice wavering in quiet confusion.

"It's just that…" Michael explained, setting the thing in the glove compartment and slipping his phone into his leather jacket pocket. "There's just something mesmerizing about the dash that I don't want to ruin. Something timeless."

"Thank you, Michael," Kitt remarked in full gratitude, slowing down to his usual 65 MPH as the foundation was only several more miles ahead.

"Don't mention it, buddy,"

Michael leaned the seat further closing his eyes, as the Black beauty continued to streak through the steady beating of the night.
