Chapter 29: Let Loose (Kelly's POV)
"Let loose once in a while.
Stay up too late, drink until you drop, order the dirtiest, fattiest, most delicious item on the menu.
You cannot live your whole life restricting yourself only to what is good and healthy for the body.
Sometimes, you have got to do what is good and healthy for the soul."
Beau Taplin • Healthy Eating
To say the drive to the bar was interesting would be an understatement. It was myself, Dean, Eric, and Spike. The vampires were in the back, Eric grumbling about being faster than the Impala. While Dean stayed silent, I watched the speedometer move up.
I turned around to face Eric who was sitting behind me. "Hey now, don't insult Baby."
Dean's hand was on my thigh and he squeezed, a slight smile on his lips at me defending his ride. Eric leaned forward, getting closer to my face than I expected. I'd learned not to flinch. It gave him too much satisfaction. Eric thrived on getting under your skin.
"Baby? Interesting that you project that endearment on this beast."
Dean shot a glare through the rearview mirror at Eric. "Let me guess, you drive a Ferrari or some shit in your world."
"Lamborghini actually." He leaned back but turned to Dean smiling, baring his fangs.
Spike had been watching the exchange bemused. "Now now boys, no need to make this a dick measuring contest. After all, you're both dicks." He leaned forward slightly, directing his next comment at Dean, "I used to have a '59 Fireflite. Never ran as smooth as this car though. Nice work."
They lapsed into a conversation about classic cars for the rest of the ride. I was happy to see them getting along more, the tension of their initial meeting mostly forgotten. Eric was glaring out the window, looking almost like a sullen teen but his eyes were alert, watching the passing scenery closely for any potential danger. I looked out the window myself and watched as the empty fields turned into sparse storefronts before we hit what you would call the downtown core of Aberdeen. Dean parked and we all unloaded. He led the way, holding my hand. He passed into the bar without issue but the bouncer put a hand out stopping me, "ID?"
Spike and Eric chuckled behind me and Dean turned around, not realizing initially why I had stopped in my tracks. I sighed and dug out my ID from my pocket, thankful I had remembered to bring it. The bouncer took it out of my hand, touch lingering for a moment too long, before examining it closely. I snuck a look at Dean, not sure how legit the ID would look. Greta had never looked too hard at the paperwork I gave her. This was the first time anyone had really inspected my ID up close.
The bouncer gave me a long lookover, earning him a glare from Dean who was standing behind him. "Huh, '84? You don't look it. Go on in, short stuff."
I plastered on a smile to hide my annoyance at the look and comment. The bouncer passed my ID back with a grin and waved Eric and Spike in without question. They headed for a table, but Dean pulled me aside once we were out of earshot of the bouncer. "Wow, what a douche."
"Honestly? I'm used to it."
I shrugged but Dean shot another glare at the bouncer before turning back to me.
"Were you really born in '84? I realize I've never actually asked you how old you were."
"Guess this is not the time to tell you I'm actually 17?" His face turned to mild panic and I burst out laughing. "You're too gullible. Technically I was born in '82, February 21, just so you know." I could see Dean still trying to do some mental math on my age. "Body is 25. Mind, 27. I guess. Not really sure how it all works. Michelle is 27 though. Sam asked me about my age when he was making the IDs, but we figured best to fudge the date since I seem to have come back at the same age when I died."
Dean grinned, "Interesting. Sorry I missed your birthday." He leaned down for a kiss, arm wrapping around my waist, "can I buy you a shot to make up for it?"
"Only if I can buy you one. Missed yours. January 24th, right?" I smirked.
"Show off."
