Chapter 33: Being Dangerous (Kelly's POV)
"How fickle my heart and how woozy my eyes
I struggle to find any truth in your lies
And now my heart stumbles on things I don't know
My weakness I feel I must finally show"
- Awake My Soul by Mumford and Sons
Dean was passed out on my chest, lightly snoring. We'd had a very good morning and I guessed our morning activities on top of my playing with his hair had helped in knocking him back out. When he had mentioned us staying another night at the hotel I was surprised. I had assumed the boys would want to leave right after burning the bodies, but was wrong. While we'd watched the pyre, Dean had told me Sam wanted to spend another night, but to play it off like it was our idea. I didn't argue and knew Michelle would buy it easily. Being at the hotel was an escape from reality, and a pause on the apocalypse. I'd stopped playing with Dean's hair as I got lost in my thoughts and he stirred, waking up. I smiled down at him.
"Hey sleepy head."
He lifted his head and responded with a sleepy smile, "you're dangerous."
"Me? How?" I asked innocently.
"I don't think I've slept this much in months. Hell, years."
"Sounds like the opposite of dangerous to me."
He pushed himself up, kissing me tenderly. He pulled back, but our faces were still close. His eyes were searching mine, as his hand came up to my face, "I love you."
My breath caught, not expecting those words from him first. I'd pushed back my feelings, afraid to let myself fall too hard, even though we'd already admitted to this being more. I closed the space kissing him again, before pulling back, "I love you too."
He smiled, his whole face lighting up before moving back into another heartstopping kiss.
It was my turn to be laying on top of Dean, dozing slightly in a post sex daze, when my stomach grumbled loudly betraying me. Dean raised his eyebrows looking down at me, "brunch?"
I sighed, I didn't really want to get out of bed. That would mean being one step closer to going back to reality. I frowned, "probably need to check out soon anyway."
Dean checked the clock, "yeah. Should probably hit the road after. We've got like 9 hours of driving ahead of us to get you home."
I moved off of him and started to get dressed. He stayed in bed watching me. "Are you coming back to the house with us?"
"We'll drive back with you, but have to get to Bobby's, work on a lead." I raised my eyebrows in question, so he continued, "something Gabriel told us with the horsemen's rings."
"A lead from an archangel sounds promising. Getting those rings though...that makes me anxious."
"Yeah, we're not even sure where to start. We still need Pestilence and Death. Probably going to be nose deep in research for the next week at least."
I smiled at him pulling on my jeans, "hmm, well at least you're closer to the house then. You know, if research gets too boring and you need a distraction."
He climbed out of bed and passed me on his way to his bag, smacking my ass, "you're dangerous."
"Hey, all work and no play is no way to live."
We were in the hotel restaurant when Michelle and Sam came in. They looked happy and were holding hands. Dean had his arm around my shoulders and leaned down to whisper in my ear, "think they had as much fun as we did?"
I elbowed him in the side in response but was curious myself. I wasn't used to seeing Michelle so comfortable with a guy in public. I was definitely going to grill her once we were alone.
Dean spoke as they sat down at the table, "hey lovebirds. Have a good night?" Michelle immediately blushed, and Sam shot a glare at Dean.
I elbowed him again before speaking, "did you want to grab food? We just finished eating but happy to wait around."
Michelle looked relieved for the quick change in topic, "We're good. We were out for breakfast after a run."
Dean looked from Michelle and Sam to me, "a run? Seriously? Way more fun ways to get in your cardio."
"Anyway!" Sam changed the topic again as Michelle turned a darker shade of red blushing, "we should hit the road soon. Bobby said he had a lead. Spike in cases of Swine Flu in Nevada. He thinks it might be pestilence."
"Yeah, we can hit the road in 10. We already checked out." Dean motioned to Sam and Michelle, "you two want to ride together?"
Sam raised his eyebrows, "sure. You gonna let Kelly drive the Impala?"
Michelle shot me a look of envy mixed with fear. I just felt fear. Driving our crappy car was one thing, but the Impala was a boat. A beautiful but bulky boat for me. I wondered how long I'd live if I so much as scratched her.
"I'm cool riding shotgun unless you need the driving break."
Sam laughed at me playfully, "probably a smart call."
We'd been on the road for hours and were somewhere in South Dakota on a backroad. Dean was driving, and I was leaning on him, half asleep. The sounds of Beast of Burden lulled me into a sleepier state when a voice that was not Dean's spoke from behind me.
"You're not moose."
I jolted up, while Dean swerved off the road, slamming on the brakes. I turned around, gun in hand to find the backseat empty. "What the fu-"
A tap on the glass made me swing around again, a man in black was smiling through the window at us and waved, "fancy a fag and a chat?"
The man stepped back and was illuminated by the headlights as Michelle and Sam pulled up behind us. Dean was already out of the car and had his gun trained on the stranger. The man stepped back, hands raised. His expression did not look concerned, merely amused. I climbed out of the passenger side slowly, gun still trained, as Sam came jogging up behind us, Ruby's knife in hand.
Dean yelled, "Crowley what the fuck?!"
"This is Crowley?!" I looked from Crowley to the boys, dropping my gun. It would be useless against a demon. I shot a look over at Michelle, who was still in the car, looking frozen in place.
"Oh, you know me? I'm flattered boys. Telling your hookups about me."
I opened my mouth to protest, but Dean cut me off, "shut it, Crowley."
"How the hell did you find us?" Sam was radiating anger, inching forward on Crowley.
"Where exactly did you come from anyway?" Crowley looked from Sam to the Impala.
"You can't see the car?" I asked.
Crowley looked at me surprised and shook his head, "All I see is the black beast these two drive around in."
Michelle spoke up, appearing behind Sam, "you can't see our car?"
Crowley jumped slightly as Michelle came closer, "where the bloody hell did you come from?"
"HA! My warding worked." Michelle was grinning at me.
"Wait, Crowley, how the hell did you find us in the Impala?"
"Boys boys boys. Is that really the important question for me right now?"
