I ended up in the park, huddled under a tree. I'd already covered my tracks and made sure that my scent would be lost in the city before coming here, figuring it was a good a place as any to crash. It was night and I'd been here for hours just sitting on my own, however after a few moments I realised that someone was watching me so I sat up straighter. "Who's there?" I called, hand going to the water pouch at my side ready to uncap it, however a familiar face popped up out of the bushes.

"Only me! You're that girl who caught the fishies that time, am I right?" It was that same hobo.

"Oh, yeah that's me. Hello." I greeted though distantly, relaxing again back into my miserable self. The hobo blinked at me, tilting his head to the side before he approached with a bounce in his step.

"You know, it's going to get a lot colder and with clothes like that you're going to freeze to death whether you're from the water tribe or not." He said to me before grinning toothily at me as I lifted my head, blinking at him. "How about you come with me and I'll lend you a blanket for the night? Got some other folks who group together like a family, you'd be welcome to join us for some hot food." My stomach rumbled hungrily and I slowly smiled, pushing myself up to my feet.

"If you wouldn't mind, I would be deeply grateful to you." I said before bowing, hands before me in respect as the kind hobo led the way to the underground tunnels where he and a whole bunch of other homeless people lived together in makeshift homes made of rudimentary tents.

"Nothing fancy, but it's warmer than out there. Here, you set yourself down over here and I'll find something to eat." He told me kindly, gesturing to a nest like pile which I assumed was his spot. "Need to pay you back for them fishies, am I right?" Unable to answer I managed a smile to him as he hopped away to find some food. A few people looked over to me curiously, surprised to see someone like me down here however I turned my head and curled up, wanting to just close my eyes and imagine that I was back home in the south.

"Hey lady, you a bender?" Someone poked me and I blinked, looking to see a little kid in front of me.

"Um, yes. Sort of. I can do a few tricks." I answered, turning back around to see a small group of children had gathered in front of me.

"Show us! Show us!" They all pleaded with hopeful and winsome little eyes so I smiled, finding myself unable to refuse so I looked around for some water before noticing one of the pipes had been opened up to create a small stream of fresh water. Taking a breath I lifted my hands and brought it over, circling it in the air before I then created little ice figurines for the children, making them move and dance for their entertainment until they were all laughing happily and their joy seemed to infect me as I was soon smiling and laughing too, making whatever they asked for as the adults all looked over and began to gather to see my little ice display.

After that they all welcomed me openly, giving me a spare blanket and something to use as a pillow, offering me whatever they had to make my stay here more comfortable but I insisted that I would be alright, instead offering to heal anyone who was sick or injured. When they learned I was a healer, my popularity suddenly grew tenfold and when my park hobo friend returned, he found me surrounded by people as they watched me heal wounds, sores, aches and pains. For the first time in a while, I felt like I was useful for something other than chores and babysitting. I wasn't being compared with someone else or reminded how inferior I was to other benders, instead the water-benders down in the tunnels asked me to teach them how to heal.

I slept well that night, forgetting all about my worries and in the morning I felt infinitely better. I also felt really bad about all the things that I'd said, but I wasn't ready to go back yet. I figured whilst I was down here, I'd talk to the real people of Republic City, the ones who saw and knew everything. Sure enough I gathered a load of information about Amon and his Equalists, making it easy for me to track them down on my own. Each time I found a base, I'd listen in the shadows for more information until I got something good.

After a while, however, I realised that I could do more good on the streets then I could back at the temple. The non-benders of the city were being oppressed even more harshly than before. It was all thanks to that moron Tarrlok, instigating new laws that took away almost all of the rights of the non-benders. I even found out about a protest which had been misunderstood about an Equalists rally after the power had been shut off, so I went to the power station myself and snuck in, freezing people to the walls in order to pass unhindered with a dark cloak swept around me, keeping me completely hidden from view. My grandmother would be proud.

Using the card key I had swiped I was able to get to the control room where I politely threatened the workers to turn the power back on or I'd freeze their butts to the wall then see how long it took for them to die of frostbite. When security didn't answer, they were quick about obeying. Jeez, they don't take security seriously these days, those guys had been total pushovers. Even Meelo was more dangerous than they were. With the power restored I left with a warning that I'd be back if something like this happened again, though I stuck around to see Tarrlok's furious expression when the power was restored to the district. Oh I loved pissing him off, it was fast becoming a new hobby of mine.

I returned back to the tunnels that night a hero, people cheering and clapping for me as I took off my cloak and smiled, waving to them all. "Hey everyone, I'm back." I greeted as the kids all rushed forwards and grabbed my hands.

"Kanna! You're back! We've already heard all about you getting the power back, we have light again!" They cheered whilst one of the boys sniffled.

"It was so scary in the dark!" I chuckled, lifting him up for a cuddle before going further inside where I shared out some of the things I'd managed to…ahem…acquire. That power plant had a lot of useful things just lying around such as torches, batteries and even a generator or two. Pretty careless of them to just leave it out in the open, anyone could have tripped over them. We all laughed and sang songs over some sewer stew, as they called it which basically meant it was made up of near out of date vegetables and not much meat, but still it was hot and kept you going. At night, however, I woke up to hear a familiar howl.

"Naga!" A few people stirred around me, my friend from the park opening his eyes blearily.

"What you be doing now Kanna?"

"I'm sorry but I have to go, my friend is in trouble!" I answered, hurriedly grabbing my water pouch and slipping it across me as I raced out of the tunnels and into the night, taking a deep breath before I whistled as loudly as I could. "Naga come!" It wasn't long before she was bounding towards me having heard me call and she skidded to a halt, whimpering with worriedly as I caught her head and rubbed her ears. "What's the matter Naga? Where's Korra?" She barked and nudged me insistently, still whimpering and I felt my heart seize up with worry. "Take me to her Naga, let's go!" Without hesitation I leaped up into the saddle and took the reins, wheeling her around before with a tap of my heels, Naga sprang forwards with another howl as she took off into the night.

Whilst Naga kept her nose to the ground to track Korra's scent I felt my pulse continually thud in my head, anxious to find my friend. I know we'd had a pretty bad argument, one that almost ended with us knocking each other apart, but there's nothing that can ever break us apart forever. Korra was like my sister and that meant that I'd move heaven and earth to find her, even if it took me a lifetime. "Keep going Naga, we have to find Korra before something happens to her." I encouraged as Naga took me back to City Hall, making me frown momentarily but I dismissed it as she then raced down the street with a bark, catching the scent. "Go! Go!"

We ran and tracked her through the night, leaving the city and heading up into the mountains however when a snowstorm hit, I quickly leaped off of Naga and created a solid igloo around us so that we could keep warm. "Good girl Naga, you rest for a while. You must be tired." I said to her lovingly, stroking her fur before I pulled down the blanket that was rolled up on the back of her saddle to pull around me, exhaling as I listened to the wailing winds outside. I couldn't sleep I was so worried, however thankfully Naga helped me keep warm and toasty as we outlasted the storm.

Naga's tail thumped when it was over, her ears lifting so I stood up and parted the snow, letting us back out into the bright sunlight. We must have been covered for hours, the snow was six inches deeper and fresh from that storm. "You still have the scent Naga?" I asked her and she began to sniff the air, growling as she searched for it. "Don't worry, you'll find it again. You're the best tracker there is." I assured her, walking at her shoulder before the snow got too deep for me and Naga helped me onto her back with a push of her head under my leg, making me smile and pat her shoulder. "Let's go." With a growl of agreement Naga bounded forwards and continued to search for the scent again, taking us higher up into the mountain. By dusk we'd climbed so high that it wouldn't be much further until we reached the top, however just as I was about to suggest to Naga that we take a break, her head suddenly shot up. "Naga?"

With a loud bark she suddenly sprung forwards, making me yell and lunge to grip onto the saddle as she took the fast route back down, bounding with huge leaps as she caught Korra's scent again. "Watch out Naga!" I had to quickly bend the snow around us to keep Naga from falling off the edge of the mountain, guiding her to a safer route before she plummeted forwards once more. "Easy! Wait…is that?" Ahead I could just make out a cabin in the distance with a truck outside, figures entering with an ominously hooded figure. "Amon." I growled, shifting in my seat to hunch over the saddle. "Go Naga, go! We have to get Korra out of there!" Understanding the urgency, Naga increased her pace and once I was balanced in the saddle I began to whirl my arms, pulling the snow along with us before all at once I spread my arms like wings and we soared down the mountain, gliding with a thick avalanche following after us.

Korra burst free from the cabin with a plume of fire before she fell down the mountain side, Amon having placed someone else in the truck already. It looked like Councilman Tarrlok. Too bad, I don't care about him. He can rot for all I care. However as the rumbling snow began to make the ground tremble, Amon turned around and looked to see Naga bounding straight for him. Her paw slammed into his chest as she snarled, leaping over him as with a final swing and grunt, I dragged the avalanche down where it slammed against the cabin, making the chi blockers all yell and dive for cover as I made sure that Amon wouldn't follow. As Naga skidded down the snowy slope I looked back, eyes locking with Amon's however soon enough I was gone from his sight.

Looking back, I almost screamed. "Watch out Naga!" Quickly I took up the reins again and helped her navigate the trees though it became difficult as we lost the light. With another flourish of my hands I created a large snowdrift which we crashed into softly, stopping our crazy descent so that Naga could catch Korra's scent again and I could catch my breath. I swear I almost peed myself back there. "Korra! Korra!" Calling out Naga sniffed the air before barking again, snow falling once more as she bounded forwards, burrowing through the snow before finally we were walking on solid ground again with only a few inches of snow underfoot.

There, lying crashed against a tree, was Korra. "Korra!" Leaping from Naga's back I ran to her, skidding on my knees to grip her shoulders and lifted her up. "Korra, wake up Korra!" She groaned and blinked open her eyes, weak and cold but she still looked at me.

"Kanna…you came back…you came back for me."

"Course I did, you idiot, I can't leave you alone for one second can I?!" I ranted, tears stinging my eyes as I shook my head. "Never frighten me like that again! Korra!" Bringing her close I hugged her against me and I could feel her smile before she slipped back into unconsciousness again. Sucking down my choked emotions I pulled the blanket down and wrapped it around her before lifting her off the ground where Naga lay down so that I could mount up easily. "Come on Naga, take us back home." I said softly so she began at a walk before springing into a run, using her nose to direct her as I opened the water pouch and began to heal Korra's injuries.

Getting back to Republic City only took a couple of hours now that we weren't chasing a crazy scent trail, however as we ran back towards Air Temple Island, Naga howled to the sky and came to a stop upon seeing Oogie who was carrying Tenzin and all the gang on his back. "Kanna! You found Korra!" Tenzin exclaimed with relief.

"It was Naga really, I wouldn't have known Korra was in trouble if it weren't for her." I answered as everyone rushed forwards to Korra who was still unconscious, laying in my arms however when Mako pushed his way forwards I blinked in surprise at his tight expression and the way he actually pushed Tenzin and Lin aside.

"Give her some room! Don't crowd her!" He snapped and before I knew it he had pulled Korra from my arms and was carrying her back to Oogie. I think everyone was just as equally surprised, however Tenzin cleared his throat then placed his hand upon mine, gripping my wrist assertively.

"Now young lady, you've had us all in a state worrying about you. Don't ever disappear like that again or I'll be forced to…to…lock you in your room!" I looked at Tenzin before frowning.

"The doors don't lock."

"Well then, I'll…think of an appropriate way to discipline you!" He responded before all at once he had pulled me from Naga's saddle and had me in a crushing hug, making me freeze on the spot in shock. "I was so worried about you. Please, don't ever run away like that again." Feeling ashamed I nodded my head into him, closing my eyes as the lump swelled up in my throat.

"I'm sorry." After embracing me for a long time Lin ordered everyone to get organised back onto the flying bison however I stepped back towards Naga. "I better ferry her back over, Oogie can't take all our weight. Don't worry Tenzin, I'm coming home and I promise I'll fix everything that I broke." I assured him before he could argue so he exhaled and nodded his head.

"I'll join you." Asami announced and I blinked in shock, staring as she strode forwards and mounted up behind me wearing an angry and slightly hurt expression. Oh right, her and Mako. If I'm not mistaken, this has become an increasingly awkward situation.

"Oh…um…sure, be glad for the company." I stated quickly before having Naga go forwards. I slowed up the pace, figuring that Asami would probably want some time to think things over to herself so we took our time going back. I shifted uncomfortably, thinking about all those awful things that I had said about her. Should I apologise? Now probably isn't a great time. With Mako now acting all weird with Korra, Asami must be feeling really hurt and me telling her all about how I got into a fight with Korra because of her wasn't going to help.

"Thank you for letting me ride with you." Asami suddenly said as her fingers gripped onto the rim of my skirt a little tighter as if to comfort her. "I know you don't like me."

"What?! What gave you that impression? No way." I panicked however when I looked back over my shoulder, Asami was looking at me with the saddest expression I had ever seen.

"You were kind of shouting right underneath my room. I heard everything." Oh crap. I messed up. "It's okay, I'm not mad or anything. I don't want it to be awkward between us, you can hate me as much as you want if you like." She added quickly, trying to backtrack however I gave a long sigh, tilting my head upwards to look at the bleak sky.

"I don't hate you Asami. True I kind of disliked you on principle because you were dating the guy my best friend liked, but there's no hard feelings. In fact to be honest, I think I was actually just incredibly jealous of you." I admitted, making her blink in surprise so I turned a smile back at her. "You're stunningly beautiful and smart, pretty much everything that every guy wishes for in a woman, and you just breezed into the lives of my friends and suddenly they didn't have time to hang out and have fun anymore. I know it's selfish and completely immature, but that's honestly how I felt. I'm sorry, I really am." Asami stared at me for a moment before finally she giggled.

"Wow, you must be really brave to be so honest and upfront with me like that." She said and I was once again surprised. "You know, I actually was always a little envious of you. Whenever I saw you interact with Bolin, Mako and…Korra, it was always so natural, like you were the intimate part of the relationship that made everything fit together. Plus I thought you were so exotic with your different styled clothes and your hair, you've got plenty qualities of your own to be proud of Kanna." I blushed at that, touching my hair which was fuzzy and wet from the snow.

"You think so?" Nodding her head we smiled at one another. "That's crazy, I never knew that's how you felt. Gee, now I feel like an even bigger jerk." I exhaled as we reached the pier so I quickly made up an ice raft. "You might want to hold on a little tighter." I said to her however as Asami wrapped her arms around my waist, she spoke in a quiet and forlorn murmur.

"Do you mind if we go slowly? I'm not quite ready to go back yet." She said and I paused for a moment as Naga jumped down onto the raft before I smiled in understanding and nodded. As my hands worked the ice I pushed us as a gentle flow towards the island, taking our time as Asami exhaled. "Thank you Kanna."

"Listen, I think we just started off really badly with a lot of messed up feelings and thoughts. How about you and I start over?" I suggested, stopping us in the middle of the ocean as I acrobatically turned myself around so that I was facing Asami. "Hey there, I'm Kanna from the Southern Water Tribe, funnily enough located in the South Pole. It's nice to meet you." I greeted, lifting a hand and grinned as Asami laughed and shook it.

"I'm Asami, it's great to meet you too." With our refreshing start of a new friendship, I turned back around and got us going again.

"If you like, we can stay up for a while just you and me. Everyone else will be keeping an eye on Korra but I need to put Naga to bed and eat some food myself before I think about sleep. You can even bunk in my room if you like, you ever had a sleepover before?" I asked but Asami told me she hadn't, making me grin and assure her that they were great fun. When we returned to the island Asami helped me take care of Naga by filling up her water whilst I got her food and unhinged the saddle, putting it away and making sure she had plenty of bedding in her little house that we'd made for her. "You were amazing today Naga, you sleep as long as you like and tomorrow I'll take you to the park to play, okay?" Her tail wagged and she licked my face in answer, making me giggle before I then led Asami inside where I was instantly attacked by Pema and the three children, all crying out my name and making me yell as I fell on my butt.

"Kanna! We missed you so much!" Ikki wailed so I smiled and hugged them all to me as Pema ranted, telling me that I was reckless and had scared her half to death whilst Asami helped me up, the two of us grinning at one another as I then turned to face the onslaught of hugs and kisses from my family.
