Two people, a man and a woman, held hands while looking at the sunset. The woman, an Airbending master, named Iya and the man, Lee, a Dishonored Noble from the Fire Nation.
"My father gave up everything, power, riches, everything, just so he could be with the woman he loved." Belos said, "At the time, a Firebender and an Airbender getting together was seen as taboo in the Fire Nation, but he would rather be disgraced than be alone."
The two shared a kiss. Another time, the two stood in front of an altar.
"He left his home and was welcomed in by the Northern Air Temple. They lived together peacefully."
The two share a kiss for their new lives as husband and wife. The Airbenders clap in joy for the new couple. Later, Lee showed off is Firebending to the Airbending Masters.
"Quite impressive. We've never seen a Firebender before." One of the Masters said, "Perhaps you being here will be a learning experience for all."
Lee bowed to the Masters. A few years later, Lee was with Iya, holding his newborn son.
"What should we name him?" Iya asked.
"The only name I think is fitting is the name of the only member of my family that was nice to me. Caine." Lee said.
"Caine Wittibane, I like it." Iya said, "I can't wait to see what Bending you use."
"Caine became a quick learner. When he began to show Firebending, father decided to teach him from a young age."
Caine, almost five by this time, threw a punch with fire coming out. He did that three more time before jumping and performing a kick, also with fire coming out. He was trying to distract himself while his mother and father were focused on something else.
"Caine."
Caine looked behind him and saw Lee.
"Father."
"Come on, there's someone I want you to meet."
Lee led Caine to a room where Iya was waiting, holding something. Iya smiled and motioned for Caine to come over.
"I want you to meet Philip, you new brother."
Iya handed Philip over for Caine to hold.
"That day, we became brothers... we became best friends."
"Then, what happened?" Hunter asked.
"I'm getting to that." Belos said, "It all started a few days before the most important day of my life."
An 18 year old Phillip was leaning against a wall.
"Hey, Phil, what's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong, Caine."
"Come on little brother, you can't hide anything from me." Caine said, "Do I have to do this the hard way?"
"We aren't allowed to duel in the temple."
"Then let's go outside and do this." Caine said.
"We don't need to do that."
"Then tell me what the problem is."
"I'm... nervous." Philip said, "Mother is one of the most beloved and powerful Airbending Masters of all time."
"And you're about to become one of the youngest Airbending Masters of all time." Caine said, "So are you worried about getting your head shaved? I mean, your blonde hair is incredibly rare so I wouldn't be surprised."
"No, I'm woried that I'll let mother and father down." Philip said.
Caine looked at his brother.
"Are you serious? Philip, you could never let them down. They love you."
"I'm not sure Caine."
"Philip, you are an Airbending prodigy, they know there is nothing you would do to let them down." Caine put a hand on Philip's shoulder, "And that goes double for me. You're my brother, and I wouldn't have it any other way."
"Thanks Caine."
"Anytime, now, are you ready to get your tattoos?"
"I hope."
A few days later, Philip walked to the masters and kneeled.
"Philip Wittebane, we welcome you, as a new Airbending Master."
Philip lowered his hood, revealing his new arrow tattoo. He looked and saw his parents smiling and his brother nodding at him.
"That sounds nice. What happened?" Hunter asked.
"A few days later, something that resulted in Caine and I being on our own. It still haunts me to this day, not being able to save them." Belos said.
The ground was shaking and Airbenders were trying to get to safety. It was an Earthquake, something that was uncommon at the temple, but not impossible. Caine and Philip were running with their parents to the pathway to escape when Iya tripped.
"Mom!"
Lee went to get her up, when they looked up and saw part of the temple falling.
"Caine, Philip run!" Lee said as he covered Iya.
Caine and Philip were running to help when the falling debre landed on their parents. The brothers felt their hearts break as their parents were killed in front of them. Caine grabbed Philip's wrist.
"We have to go!"
"We ran into the woods, we were possitive we would die. I didn't care, without our parents, I didn't have the will to go on. That's when it happened."
"What happened?"
"We found ourselves in a world unlike any other."
