Quasimodo had gone to the archdeacon the next day after their arrival in Paris. Jean Bureau was the successor to Frollos. In 1482 it was around 50 years old, which was quite an old age for people at that time. He had also been Frollo's right-hand man until those fateful events. That is why Jean Bureau knew Quasimodo and what significance he had for the cathedral. Quasimodo humbly requested an reception, but the new archdeacon was still too busy. After all, Frollo left office very suddenly and the takeover had to take place very quickly. Although Jean Bureau had already been privy to some activities as Frollo's right-hand man, there were things that only the archdeacon knew and that was a lot that he now had to learn in a short time. Quasimodo knew that without the blessing of the archdeacon he could not get too close to Regina and so, although he had not taken a vow of chastity, he had decided not to get too close to Regina to avoid being tempted. He also feared she would turn him back after the incident on the return journey. He was still terribly ashamed of it and felt that he deserved punishment by abstaining. Quasimodo had to wait more than 3 weeks for the new archdeacon to receive him. When the time came, Quasimodo was quite nervous.

"Well, my son, you wanted to speak to me?", Jean Bureau asked him slowly, because of course he too knew about the deafness of the bell ringer.

"Father.", Quasimodo began, knelt in front of the archdeacon, kissed the hem of his white robe and made the sign of the cross. Then the bell ringer rose and took a deep breath before continuing: "Perhaps you noticed that I no longer live alone in the bell tower."

The archdeacon nodded: "Yes, Brother Martin told me that two strangely dressed women have found shelter with you."

"Indeed, well, one of them is still there and wants to stay," Quasimodo said nervously.

"Everyone is welcome in the house of God, my son. I heard she keeps our beautiful cathedral clean," said Jean Bureau with outstretched arms.

"I'm here because I ...", Quasimodo began and stuttered nervously, "She ... is very dear to my heart and ..."

Jean Bureau raised an eyebrow in surprise. He had known the bell ringer since Frollo found him in the cathedral. He never had a particularly close relationship with him, but he was surprised to see the bell ringer like that.

"I understand.", The archdeacon finally said and smiled: "And how does she see it?"

"She ... is very fond of me too.", Quasimodo said, embarrassed.

"So you intend to marry her?" Asked Jean Bureau.

Quasimodo slowly nodded his head.

"Well ... if she feels the same, nothing speaks against it. Still ... I would like to appeal to your responsibility. A marriage promise is more than just an" I want ". How do you imagine your future? Do you want children? Above all you should think about it, as there is a risk that the children might look like you. Is that what you want? "the archdeacon asked the bell ringer.

Quasimodo found it difficult to understand the archdeacon, he spoke faster and faster, which made it more and more difficult for the bell ringer to read his lips. Jean Bureau also tried to underline what he meant with his gestures, for exaple held his arms in front of his body as if he were holding a child in them and Quasimodo understood what he meant. Quasimodo hadn't thought about that. He didn't want a child who looked like him and suffered the same suffering as he did. But: he wanted to be with Regina.

"If you are sure of that, then you have my blessing to marry her," said Jean Bureau at the end. Then he asked the bell ringer out, as he had to prepare the next mass. Quasimodo returned to the clock tower and sighed deeply. Regina wasn't there yet, she seemed to be busy with work. Quasimodo sat on the balustrade and leaned against a gargoyle. Thoughtfully he looked into the distance and wondered what was the right thing to do now.

When I finished my work, I returned to the tower. I had got used to the pain every evening and also to climbing the more than 400 steps to the tower several times. I was used to the enormous height and could now stand on the balustrade and look over Paris without breaking a sweat. It was a breathtaking sight, especially when the sun went down. When I reached the south tower I saw Quasimodo sitting on the balustrade. I patted his shoulder and Quasimodo looked at me in surprise.

"Good evening." I said and saw the beautiful sunset.

"Regina?" He asked, jumping from the balustrade in front of me.

"Yeah, what is it?" I asked.

"Do you ... do you really want ... to live with me ... together ... here?" He stuttered.

"Of course," I said with a bright smile.

"I ... spoke to the archdeacon ...", Quasimodo began, embarrassed, "and asked him for his blessing."

"Blessing? You mean ..." I started speechless.

"I don't know how it is in your time ...", Quasimodo began and lowered his gaze, "You are only allowed to be together here if you are married."

I looked at Quasimodo for a long time in silence and understood what it was ... that was his proposal! I felt tears welling up in my eyes.

"However ... the archdeacon ... He said something we didn't think about.", Quasimodo said slowly, "What if you are expecting a child ... from me?"

I stared at Quasimodo, startled. I really loved him dearly, and if I got pregnant what kind of child would it be? Did we want to have a child that looked like him? Would it share its tragic fate? I had never really thought about it because it was all so far from reality, to even meet Quasimodo and to build the bond with him that I now had with him.

I stepped up to Quasimodo and took his right hand: "Quasimodo ... I love you, and there is nothing that will change anything about it. If I get pregnant, I will be happy about it. No matter what the child will look like , I will love it because it is your child. Born out of our love for one another. Something I could not even have imagined in a dream. And this child will lead a different life than you. I will take care of that. ", I said and kissed him.
